I actually think Smelly Pot is more attracting. Anyhow, my friend's and I came try this place out. Menu is very descriptive, it has pictures to go with each hot pot. Note: 1. Picture looks different from the actual pot. 2. Chinese and English description is slightly different. For example, the Seafood Pot in Chinese says there is pork but in English, it doesn't state that, other than pork balls. My friend was surprised to see pork in her pot. I ordered the fried stinky tofu as appetizer. It was good, it would have been better if it was stinkier. The sauce for the stinking tofu goes really well with it. Oh speaking of the stinking tofu, you will notice the smell as soon as you walk into the restaurant. The stinkiness is in the air. Each of us ordered a different pot. See pic. As soon as you order your pot, server will give you two dipping sauces (soy bean and soy sauce). Surprisingly, they're not bad. Goes well with the pot. I ordered the satay beef pot. At first, I thought it won't be enough for me but it was more than plenty. My pot had corn, imitation crab stick, enoki, fish ball, fish ball with stuffings inside (soooo good), pork blood, fish oden tempura, tofu, quail egg, beef and lot of cabbages. I usually don't drink the broth but Pop Pot's soup was delicious and flavorful. Each pot is lighter with a lighter by the server so your pot will be cooking the whole time unless the fire goes off by itself or you ask the server to extinguish the fire. 3.5, I wouldn't go back unless someone ask me to. It's really just a ok, many ppl say how good their stink eye tofu is... I bet they never have La Mei Zi's stinky tofu! I also can't agree with the way they prepare the pot. First of all, the soup base is nothing special at all, some of them you can totally get it at GW supermarket right at the corner, such as satay, miso, kimchi, sukiyaki... etc and a lot of them not even Taiwanese... They also cook some of the soup base wrong, such as the sour napa pot, they use regular napa and add sour flavor in the soup base instead of using sour napa to cook the soup base... that makes a huge difference. Second, what's in the pot also very wrong... I have never had a spicy pot without duck blood and frozen tofu, those two are the key of Taiwanese spicy pot. Seems like every pot are the same and just the soup base are different Also one thing I don't get it is... why they put chicken nugget in the pot? Not all Taiwanese dishes need to have chicken nugget. I guess what I am trying to say is...having chicken nugget doesn't make it Taiwanese. A great place for some authentic Taiwanese hot pot! Each pot comes with a unique soup base and a variety of ingredients. You can also customize by doing add-ons. They did put a little too much cabbage in each pot though. Also, if you have long hair, please make sure to TIE YOUR HAIR WHILE EATING because my friends hair caught on fire while eating. Just walking in the door, you get a strong scene of whatever is brewing in the restaurant. Just beware that you'll walk out smelling just like it. I wish they had better ventilation. This is an interesting concept as in you get your own pot but everything is already in the pot cooking when it comes out to you. You pretty much have to eat it very quickly if you don't want your food to overcooked. It took us over 15 mins to flag down our waitress to stop the flames and by that time, our food didn't look appetizing anymore. You get to choose your spicy level ranging from (Nothing 0%, Mild (30%), medium, Hot and Dare Devil). Most of the pots range between $12 - $16 as their max and all come with some sort of sliced pork and a variety of vegetables. You can order additional side items for extra $$. I got the curry ball pot ($12), some people got the house special ($12) and mushroom pot ($12). Out of the 3, mine was the best since it was the most flavorful so I recommend you go for it. The friend that got the house special came with fermented tofu and let's say that he was in the toilet at the restaurant for about 20 mins throwing it back up. Not sure if the tofu was bad or because it didn't agree with him but needless to say, I won't be getting anything fermented from Pop Pot. Today's lunch was going to be xiao long bao but then i thought, why not? Walked in at 2-2:15pm and the place was pretty empty except for two couples who were almost done eating. The waitress greeted me and sat me in a 2 person booth. The tables were set with a little plate, chopsticks, a small sauce dish, a napkin, and a small ladle. Personally, I would've liked it if there were Taiwanese music playing but pop songs work just fine to create that casual atmosphere. Location wise, it's in a good place because it's next to Summer Memory Station, Sweet Hut, and Kremo AKA nice date places (take a hint, guys and gals) The menu is pretty simple: appetizers, hot pots, and side items. The front page of the menu has pots for $12 while the back page is $16. I'm not too sure why but maybe someone will answer that question for me one day lol I just got ice water but hot water is also available; they didn't seem to have a list of drinks. I debated between the Korean army stew but I ordered the sukiyaki pot and I thought it was interesting how the waitress took my order on a iPad-looking device. She asked for the spiciness level and whether I wanted a bowl of rice or glass noodles, which I don't think is optional so I ordered the rice. It took a while for me to get my food; then again, I didnt keep track of time so I felt like it took a while for me to get my food. The pot was brought out on a little stove thingy and the waitress lit up the heat source, resulting in a little fire to keep the food warm. The waitress will fill up the sauce fish with a Taiwanese bean paste and a soy sauce based sauce as well, which I think adds to the flavor when dipping food into it. I believe that there is only that sauce so if you're looking for something spicy, you're out of luck. The sukiyaki was flavorful, which is good! I've never had sukiyaki but I knew that the way I was eating wasn't the traditional way. Everything was brought out in one pot and there were additional items such as pork blood cakes and quail eggs and the raw egg was in the soup already. I didn't mind since this isn't your typical hot pot place; it was a nice way to experience another type of hot pot. The waitress checked up on me about 3 times and she informed me that if I wanted the fire to be put out at any time then to let her know. Otherwise, the fire heating the pot will eventually die out towards the end of your meal (at least, that's what happened with me) If you're like me and rice fills you up, don't eat the rice right away! I've learned that the hard way many times before so I ate my rice towards the middle and at the end so I could finish the hot pot since I don't eat that much anyway. Pop Pot is pretty good, especially since it's just their soft opening. It's not your typical hot pot place but it's nice because there's a variety of pots but it may not be ideal for picky eaters because you can't choose what goes in your pot. Stumbled upon this place while walking around the Sweet Hut plaza, and it was the best find on our trip! We dined in around 5pm, and there was 2 other tables there. We decided on getting two pots to share between three of us, and there was plenty to go around! Our server was helpful and knowledgeable, and the two pots quickly followed after we ordered, it was unbelievable. Each pot is served on some stand that has a fire underneath to keep the pot hot while you're eating it. Furthermore, when we were nearing our meal, the fire went out on it's own so that it could cool so we would be able to consume all the tasty morsels at the bottom of the pots. We ordered the Thai Style Pot, and Korean Army. Each pot comes with a side of glass noodles or rice, and each can be customized to any spicy level (0-150%). Each pot had great flavor and was full of goodies listed, including veggies and meats. However, I would recommend getting rice instead of noodles, as you get far more rice than noodles on the side. Since I can't get Boiling Point in Los Angeles right now due to COVID-19, I have found a new spot that's identical to it! When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and seated right away. Menus were easy to read and very detailed as to what was in each hot pot. I love how everyone gets their own little pot. With any hot pot you choose, you choose your spice level. You also get to choose between glass noodles or rice. I ordered #14, Taiwanese Spicy Pot w/ the "spicy" level. Soup base was flavorful. So this restaurant is pretty new to the duluth area. it's in the same shopping center as sweet hut so there's plenty of parking. I went here during their soft opening so it wasn't very busy...and by that I mean I was the only table in the restaurantlol hopefully it's gotten a lot more busy since then because I do think this place has a lot of potential. the interior and decor is simple and modern. the pot comes with all of the ingredients already there so all you have to do is sit back and wait for them to heat up and eat(: I got the Taiwanese spicy pot and my boyfriend got the cilantro and preserved egg pot. the Taiwanese pot was a bit bigger so I would recommend it if you're feeling pretty hungry (I think that applies to all the pots on the backside of the menu). we really liked both of them. each pot comes with a flame underneath it but it's not a gas flame so there's no way to turn the heat up or down, which is the only thing I was a bit iffy about. overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and I'll be back sometime to try out their other delicious pots!! read more

It's kind of inconsistent and I can't eat at my own rate like other hot pot places where you can control the amount of heat needed to cook your food. However, the 2 pots did not arrive at the same time. I was almost done eating when my husband's pot finally came out. It was almost like we took turns watching each other eat. I did not like that. I usually avoid hot pot for or KBBQ lunch because it seems like something for large groups. Pop Pot makes hot pot accessible for individual diners. The difference between most places is you get a bowl prepared in the kitchen and a burner to bring it up to a boil. No induction cook tops or raw ingredients. Each pot comes with glass noodles or rice. The other great thing is they the level of spice goes above Hot with one called "Dare". You can also add some ala carte items to your pot for an upcharge, but for one person I don't recommend it. The items on the menu aren't very similar in my opinion so you'll spend some time looking it over. I decided to go with the mushroom pot with pork and glass noodles with an add on of dried ramen. It turned out to be way too much for one person, but the spice level was close to how hot I like it. This restaurant has some of the happiest service I've ever seen in a restaurant. Yes, you heard right, "happy." Many restaurants can have a professional waitstaff that's polite and friendly. Very few have happy people, though. And the difference shows, because these people genuinely seem to care about their customers. Pop Pot has that kind of service. I went here on a first date with someone as kind of a new experience to keep us occupied so we would have something to talk about and wouldn't be staring at the floor or out the window the whole time--you know how first dates are. This was an excellent choice to avoid all of that. First, the food basically cooks in a metal bowl on your table, which is cool. Because of that, though, I wouldn't suggest bringing children. There's a legitimate open flame under each bowl on your table. It does make for an interesting conversation if you've never had Taiwanese food before, and are trying to figure out what everything is in your bowl. Everything here was good. Great hot pot experience! The area was super clean and the food was very fresh and good! I got the mushroom hot pot and shared with a friend. My sister got the sukiyaki and shared it with a friend! We also got fried stinky tofu as an appetizer! Wow was it stinky! Once you get over the smell, the taste is really good, especially with the dipping sauce on the side. Both were very filling and the soup was so good! The waitress did forget to give us a dipping sauce, and she didn't understand English very well (we were trying to omit the pork from the hot pot because my friend is vegetarian). I have been here so many times but finally decided to write a review for this place. The idea and concept is very similar to Boiling Point In California. I usually order the House Special Pot, which comes with fermented tofu ( stinky tofu), pork, meatballs, intestines, imitation crabs, and assorted veggies. They have different spice level ranging from mild to super spicy, I like mine medium. They also ask if you want rice or glass noodle to eat with the soup. I love their dipping sauce. I was so excited to try this place because i love hot pot and noodles. My friend and i came for an early lunch, and were the only ones in the restaurant at 5pm. Our server was nice and spoke broken English but well enough to communicate. The interior is very pretty. I love the ropes they have draping over. It looked super cool. The restaurant was also very clean. So service wise it wasn't bad but for us to be the only ones in the restaurant, we always had to ask for stuff. Example when my water was empty, i had to ask for it to be refilled and we had to ask for napkins, and also for them to turn off the flames bc our food was boiling excessively. The food was okay. We tried the stinky tofu because I've always heard about it but never had the opportunity to try it. I thought the crunch on the tofu was good but the smell and after taste was not my favorite. It's an acquired taste. For our dinner my friend and i ordered the kimchi Hotpot and the beef satay. I thought the broth was too sweet, and i had my mild because most Asian places when you order mild it's burning your tongue hot lol, but not here. It was very mild i couldn't taste the spice. Finally got a chance to try Pot Pot with my family this past weekend and I would say it doesn't disappoint. For a Friday night, I was surprised that it wasn't more packed. I think we were one of five tables in the establishment. It was originally named Smelly Pot, but they renamed it to Pot Pot. It is located in the same shopping center as Sweet Hut, 89 Hot Pot, and various other eateries. Lots of parking spots! FOOD: - #14 TAIWANESE SPICY POT ($16): I ordered mine with the spice level of medium (70%) with white rice and a side of udon. I felt like my pot came with a lot of items such as beef, egg, instant ramen noodles, napa cabbage, fish balls, imitation crab stick, enoki mushroom, pork intestine, and more. I felt like my pot came with a lot of food. I didn't realize mine comes with instant ramen noodles as it's not mentioned in the menu for the entree, but it is shown in the picture. I would definitely recommend the Taiwanese Spicy Pot if it's your first time at Pot Pot for various reasons. It comes with a variety of items that most of the other entree pots have. You can adjust the spice level to your liking. - #17 SEAFOOD POT ($16): My mom had this pot and she chose to have the spice level to be not spicy at all. It looked like it came with a ton of seafood such as clams, crab, and shrimp. My mom did say that she didn't think the clams were fresh. It doesn't automatically come with noodles in the pot. She opted for the complimentary glass noodles instead of the rice. I think this pot is for all those seafood lovers out there. - #4 POPCORN CHICKEN POT ($12): My sister had this pot and she chose to have the spice level to be mild (30%). I tried her popcorn chicken. Definitely tastes like how popcorn chicken should taste like -- slightly peppery. However, not sure if the chicken was supposed to be crispy like how popcorn chicken is -- nothing major or anything since it's topped on the soup. I would say that they gave a big handful of popcorn chicken. The soup also tastes like popcorn chicken as well. Service was great. Our server, Emily, was very attentive and responsive to ours needs and predicted what we needed such as water refills, napkins, and taking away dishes. Thanks Emily! Payment is done on an iPad which they bring to you at your table. Overall, I do see myself returning and trying the other various pots that they have. I would say that two people could share a pot together and just order extras such as noodles on the side. Even though it's getting warmer in ATL, I'm always down for hot pot regardless of the weather. I came by a week or two after it opened, but just got around to writing this review haha. I didn't come in having high hopes because of previous bad experiences with mini hot pot, but I left quite pleased with the place! It's located in the plaza next to the Great Wall Supermarket, so there is plenty of parking and also lots of dessert shops to go to afterwards. I really liked their twist on mini hot pot and how each pot had a different soup base. I got the Taiwanese spicy pot (which wasn't as spicy as they made it out to be). Portion wise, I was a bit disappointed. There was a lot of cabbage, which I'm not a fan of. And the Taiwanese spicy pot was supposed to come with intestines, which I was looking forward to, but I counted only 2pieces of intestines. Also they come with a side of either rice or rice noodles, and the rice noodles portion was pitiful. I also got a Taiwanese sausage appetizer, but honestly, given the fact that these sausages can be bought right next door at great wall, the price was kinda ridiculous. But besides this, the food was very delicious. I think the soup base was what really shined that night haha. The service was also decent. I guess since it was because the restaurant had just opened recently that the staff didn't have a lot of experience. When our waiter brought over our hot, boiling pots, he had to raise and reach over our heads to put them down, which almost caused the soup to spill all over us. When in Duluth, this is a must try. This was a good example of a take on Taiwanese soup meals. Since we were new to this idea, the waitresses walked us through the process. From picking which meal we wanted, which soup base to pair it with and how to combine a few items to create a savory dipping sauce. You can choose from a wide range of vegetables and meats that are served fresh and raw to you. In the table is an inset hot plate and they bring you out your soup water to be brought to a rolling boil. You can adjust the heat with a switch next to your lap. We then add whatever items we had ordered to cook in the broth and then dip in your sauces. The waitresses were even helpful in letting us know how long the different items would take to cook (which I would have botched without this knowledge!). I've always thought that taiwanese food was too rich and fatty (and a lot of snack food fit this category). But this was the first time that it felt fresh and healthy. The portion size was also huge and we had trouble eating it all (except we did finish all of it, it was that good). These are more like noodle soups with a decent about of various ingredients, depending on your selection, and a flame underneath to make everything boiling. There's lots of additional toppings and ingredients you can add as well like udon and extra noodles. Spicy Taiwanese Soup - I ordered this which a decent amount of spiciness. The seafood and ingredients were really good and stocked full. You should go away hungry but the flame will keep the boil at a strong boil for a while. Pork dumplings - My toddler ate all of these so I didn't get to try any but apparently she thought they were really good. Curry fish ball soup - My friend ordered this dish and she loves it, it smelled so good. I didn't try any but I'm pretty sure I will next time. Nothing like curry fish balls! I tried this place a couple nights ago (on a Saturday night). The place was quite empty when we arrived, which was good because there was no wait time, but also a bad sign since it was a weekend, and only 3 other parties were there. We ordered our soups, and the server got it wrong. She brought out 2 different soups, not even close to what we wanted. Eventually, we got the correct soups! BUT mine had a small hair in it (gross)! I asked them to switch it out, and they brought me an entirely new pot, which is nice but also expected. They didn't discount our check at all, which was kind of disappointing for how much waiting we did. The taste was alright. It's not any better than a normal hot pot. SOOOO GOOOD! Portions are definitely big enough to share. I got the seafood pot and it was packed with plenty of vegetables and seafood. I highly recommend this place for pure bliss of individual hot pot of your own choice of flavor, toppings and level of spices. I was told that they don't use powder for flavoring because they simmer their pork bones for at least 4 hours and it does hold true. I ordered the Sukiyaki which comes with a variety of toppings but mostly premium beef, an egg and udon noodles. You also have a choice of rice or glass noodles to accompany your pop pot. I get to choose the level of spice and of course I went 100% HOT cuz I love spicy food. The broth was amazing, although I know that my broth hasn't simmered for 4 hours from pork bone because it's made of dashi stock base... but it was equally fresh and delicious. My friend ordered the Miso and hers was definitely made of pork broth and it has this clean and naturally sweet taste to it. It was definitely flavorful. The place is cold but once you start eating your soup, you would understand why they keep it cold. Service is great and so price is very worthy. This is quality food folks. Anyone who loves hot pot should give this place a try. The food was a solid three star, but I have rated four for its authenticity. The hot pot reminded me of the food I have had during my travels in Asia. This place carries the hard-to-find traditional stinky tofu( not for the faint of heart). We ordered the Thai and Taiwanese hot pot. The food was very filling containing an adequate amount of meat and vegetable. The broth was more sharp and seasoned than that of mini hot pot. Based on my three visits to Pot Pot, I love it! [FOOD] When it's cold outside, my soul CRAVES for something warm and soupy. I'm a big fan of soup-based meals so I was really excited when I saw Pot Pot was opening up in Duluth. Pot Pot offers over a dozen types of mini pots and I've tried four: the House Special Pot, Sour Napa Pot, Taiwanese Spicy Pot, and Satay Beef Pot--all very delicious! I refrain from calling what Pot Pot has to offer hot pot because when I think hot pot, I think of having a pot and throwing in food items of my choice. Pot Pot's pot comes prepared and everything's already cook by the time it comes to you, you just need to give it some time to heat up. My favorite of the pots that I've tried has got to be the Taiwanese Spicy Pot. I get it in spicy level "Spicy" and it's perfect. I don't think Spicy is very spicy but my friend was sweating up a storm while eating it. I personally like very spicy food and thought I probably could order "Dare". The Taiwanese Spicy Pot's broth has a sweet flavor so getting it spicy really balances out the flavor. All the pots are filled to the brim with meats, fish balls, crab sticks, mushrooms, etc. The portion really is quite large, especially for the Taiwanese Spicy Pot. You get a choice of rice or noodle. I also really liked the Sour Napa Pot but the flavor is a bit more mild on this one. I really love "Suan Cai Bai Rou" at any Chinese restaurant and the one at Pot Pot just isn't as flavorful. Still good though! Probably a good place to try Sour Napa if you've never tried it before, since the flavor here isn't very strong. [SERVICE] Food comes fast because it's prepared and cooked. All the servers really need to do is bring it out and light it up. I've had good experiences with the servers at Pot Pot. The tables do get a little cramped if you're here with a lot of people since each person gets a big pot, a saucer, a bowl and utensils. [ATMOSPHERE&LOCATION] Located in the same plaza as Sweethut, JM BBQ and Beijing Dumpling House in Duluth. I think the décor of Pot Pot is very cute. They have wooden tables, benches and pillars. Overall, I love this place! You may think $12-$18 sounds like a lot for a pot of soup but you really get a ton of food. Try it out, I think everyone will like it! read more
