Expensive and dirty inside. Food was ok- slow to get food out. I'd skip. I had the oyster Poboy and it was a ton of bread and in my opinion not enough oyster. The oysters also tasted too fishy.

The food was hot when it was brought to my table. The chicken steamed when you broke it apart and the coleslaw was housemade. The cabbage and carrots were still crisp and was dressed well, not soggy and drowned or overly seasoned, it had th perfect vinegary, peppery kick while still tasting fresh. The red beans were creamy with a good flavor and the rice wasn't gummy and overcooked. I meet the co-owners as both were working, taking orders, delivering food, and making sure the customers were taken care of. After my lunch, I chatted with one of the co-owners and you could tell when regulars came to eat because they knew them by name. They even had a small town feel with a little store with treats in the front at th check out counter. They definitely appeared to be a local establishment that cared about not only their food, but the community and the service they provided.

Poor Boy Lloyd's - Baton Rouge, LA Rating: 5/5 We were in town for a bowling tournament and spotted this place while staying downtown--so glad we decided to give it a try! All I can say is: everything is packed with flavor and feels like it was made with love--the kind of comfort food that tastes like your mom cooked it herself. The shrimp po'boys were absolutely amazing--crispy, perfectly seasoned, and generously filled. The battered onion rings? Unreal. You can tell they're made in-house, and the batter was golden, crunchy, and addictive. We also tried the spaghetti and meatballs, and it was a total hit. The homemade meatballs were tender and flavorful, and once again, the batter and seasoning were spot on. One thing I really appreciated is how each dish had its own unique batter--subtly different textures and seasonings that show how much care goes into the cooking here. Everything we tried was consistently delicious. And if you needed more reason to check this place out, even President Obama and Shaq have eaten here! I can see why some reviews mention the service setup--during peak hours, the wait can be a little long since you order at the counter first before being seated, rather than traditional table service. But honestly, the food makes it more than worth the wait. Hands down one of the best hidden gems in Baton Rouge. Highly recommend it if you're in the area!

Walking in the restaurant, it felt like being in a Cattle chute. The restaurant is very clean and not very noisy. The club sandwich was mediocre $12.99. The Boudin Balls$9.99 are not freshly made(IMO) but they were ok. The RB&R are unflavored and would be a No for me. The Fish Plate$13.99 lightly breaded and hot. Not Seasoned with anything, Hot sauce is a must. The French fries are rubbery and cold. As we were sitting, I noticed a lot of people sending food back or not satisfied. I always try to start off with the good. This place has an amazing location near the river in downtown Baton Rouge. Looking out the window at the cascading view to the river was tranquil. I ordered the half/hand poboy with shrimp and crawfish. The bread they use in my opinion is award winning. I could just eat the French bread buttered with nothing else. The poboy was good but it wasn't necessarily exceptional (again the bread is). The fries weren't horrible but they weren't "good" fries either. I use my toddlers as a grading scale for fries. They didn't touch them after the first bite. The patato salad was a bit runny for my liking and had just a little too much dill weed. They do have restrooms. The inside is quaint. It wasn't crowded but outside of the dining area there isn't much room for people to wait on to-go orders. The staff were very pleasant and that's always a plus. They were accommodating to my busy body 1 year old too. I'd go again just to try a different poboy on their French bread.

I've searched for the best southern gumbo, etc, while in BR, for days- today I land here for lunch and was beyond impressed!!! I'll be back tomorrow for their étouffée! Their gumbo, red beans and rice, and fried okra was phenomenal! I've not finished a full meal in almost a year but I did today! Then I had a lovely conversation with the owner as I checked out. The service was amazing, and I paid a whopping 13.56 Pre tip! The only sad thing is they close at 3:30 PM. Aside from Fridays. You all need to have lunch here!

Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

I asked why and my daughter replied that the line was long so my other daughter who is an amputee sat at a table but was asked to get up. They were treated unfairly and with a bad attitude. I asked why didn't they ask for the owner, she said it was the owner. I understand rules but there should be accommodations for people with disabilities let alone obvious disabilities. Since my review was removed, I will contact the ADA. Now he'll have to make accommodations for those with disabilities and modifications to his establishment to be more accommodating.

We often feel judged or ostracized because in all respects, our child's gifted or seemingly normal, but then the behavior issues come out. With Ashley, she was patient as we worked through his food choices which if you have a child with autism, you completely understand the limitations. We were able to be seated as walk-ins on Presidents Day morning, although the place was absolutely packed. The service here was warm and the food came out moderately quick. This place feels like one of those higher end casual spots, definitely a step above IHOP, but not quite First Watch. We ordered a bunch of things so we'll break it down one by one: Pancakes with bacon - a bit of a letdown. Pancakes had no real flavor and the bacon was good, not great. Beignets - pretty good. Better than some we've had for sure, a nice sweet and doughy treat. French toast bites - very delicious. Came with a nice, sweet dipping sauce that really brought it home. Fried catfish & grits - hit and a miss. The catfish was delicious and lightly battered, the grits were very heavy and buttery which didn't go well with the catfish. It does also come with a biscuit that was light and buttery. Creamy vanilla iced coffee - good. Nothing too special, definitely better than a chain like Starbucks, that's for sure. It had a nice sweetness to it. Altogether, Ruby Slipper is a decent breakfast spot. Nothing we ate really hit it out of the park, but we were satisfied with our meal. It really seems like a local favorite spot and one that feels convenient to hit coming and going from NOLA. If you're looking for quick, convenient, and moderately cheap, this is the spot you're searching for.
