We visited on January 3, 2025, after my granddaughter's dance review. Our party consisted of nine people. Although the restaurant was very busy, we were seated within 15 minutes, which was quite unusual--in a good way--and set the tone for the rest of the experience. Our waiter, Aiden, was outstanding. He promptly took our drink and appetizer orders. We ordered three fried crab finger appetizers, one sautéed crab finger appetizer, three dozen chargrilled oysters, and gumbo. Everything arrived in a timely manner and was prepared perfectly. When it came time to place our dinner orders, Aiden didn't miss a beat. He was attentive, efficient, and handled our table effortlessly without appearing overwhelmed. The food was excellent, and the service was just as impressive. This level of service and food quality was a pleasant surprise, as we haven't experienced consistency like this at this restaurant since it opened. In the past, we often had issues that needed addressing and experienced long wait times. Our entire visit lasted about an hour and a half. Came here for dinner with a friend! Place was pretty packed for a weekend dinner but we got a booth. I ordered the T bird burger and got an apple cider. They have an extensive list of beer, cider, and drafts. The burger was actually really delicious and had a lot of flavor to it including avocado and bacon! We wanted to try them out. The place is a pretty cool design and the prices are fair. Food was ok. Unfortunately, we likely will not return due to the cleanliness. We got waters and the glases were dirty. Then received salads and the plates weren't clean. So then as I looked around a bit closer, I noticed how dusty the blinds and window spaces were AND the bathroom was pretty bad too. Chimes East was recommended to me by a Baton Rouge native and I'm so glad I trusted their judgement! We had the Seared Crab Claws as an appetizer and they were so flavorful and delicious. I had the Blackened Grill Chicken for my entree with a a side of Chicken & Sausage Jambalaya. The grilled chicken was seasoned to PERFECTION and the jambalaya was sooooo GOOD!!!!! Dip the baguette in the crab claw juice and it elevated it to a whole new level. Everything was so amazing. It's extremely rare for me to be dreaming about leftovers but I can't wait to finish off my chicken and jambalaya at the hotel later. Although the restaurant was busy around 2 PM on a Saturday, there was no wait for a table and we were seated upstairs immediately upon arrival. Our server was polite and friendly, offering great service. The ambience was casual and laid back which I appreciate after a long morning of flying into NOLA and making the drive to Baton Rouge. Out of the few times I've been here and loved it I forgot to write a review. I'll admit the first time I came to chimes i didn't like it and swore to not come back but I was convinced other wise. I often crave the seafood gumbo. I don't know what it is but it's good af and seasoned well. I love the buttered roll that comes with it. The blackened alligator it's also good the sauce I. Ant remember what it is right now but I like that they give you more than you might need. My favorite drink there right now is the swamp bucket. It's a premixed drink. I'm not sure what's in it but get it. My favorite menu item right now is the Char boiled Catfish. The catfish is cooked perfectly and I think it almost might be blackened. I get all broccoli instead of the mixed vegetables. The sautéed spinach is underneath the fish which is also tasty. I've also tried the catfish perdue seasoned well and the etoufee is the perfect consistency. I've always thought that oysters were gross and maybe raw they might be but the char grilled oysters I tried here were loaded with bacon, cheese and jalapeños best thing I've tasted. I just ate them too fast to remember to take a picture. The side or house salads are the only thing I have a complaint I still have lots to try at this establishment I can't wait. read more

So very confused... we ate here one time and had great dishes, the next time it tasted horrible. Like I mean almost made me sick. We got the crabmeat stuffed mushrooms and the crab claws to start and those about threw off the whole dinner they were that bad. The mushrooms were alright, but oh my god they were so greasy it was too much. The crab claws were overcooked and barely had any flavor. The shrimp salad was terrible it tasted so fishy even the lettuce didn't taste fresh. How in the world can you mess up a salad ? Beyond me anyway the only thing here that they will always get right are the chargrilled oysters. We were in Baton Rouge for a day, and when we asked some locals where we needed to eat this is where everyone said we needed to be. We wanted to experience the food the people there said was good. Cajun, Baton Rouge - something we couldn't have back home in Texas. Chimes it was. The menu is vast. There are so many options to choose from and the specialities were fried, grilled or blackened. The lady at the counter suggested fried. We paid and our food was hot and out by about 20 minutes. Fried gator: I have never had alligator before. The consistency of the meat was in between chicken and shrimp... had a chewy texture. Almost sweet, but not too overwhelming in any way. It really took on the flavor of the fried batter. It was good. Fried shrimp: jumbo shrimp succulent and crispy. Oh my gosh. Just delicious. Now the hush puppies were a little dark for my liking, a bit heavy... but to each his own. Shrimp BBQ Poboy: my husband ordered this and it was gone before I could check for it. He liked it, I can't say what it tasted like. We would sure be back any time we are in Baton Rouge. read more

Our service was a little slow and we had multiple people helping us which made things a little confusing and no one seemed to know what the other was doing. We started with some appetizers which were pretty good. The meals came with salads, which was just basic packaged salad mix with a lot of ranch on it. Saturday nights are packed because Chimes are good at providing A1 service, but they check you in quickly to get you in the queue. Our table was ready in 30 minutes, and our server immediately took our the order. The ambiance is always live, with multiple TVs, great music in the background, the smell of chargrilled oysters, and the variety of seating that makes everyone feel welcome. As I write this it's been five days since I dined at The Chimes. You might think the experience wouldn't still be fresh in my mind, but reviewing my pictures makes it feel like I'm still there enjoying some of the best Cajun cuisine I've ever had. The wait staff were friendly, attentive, and seemed to appear right when we needed them. Dim lit with cozy seating, I immediately felt comfortable and relaxed in a new town and a new restaurant. I wish I could remember our server's name; he was a young man with glasses and kind of shaggy brown hair. He helped me pick something that fit my taste preferences and the authenticity I was looking for. Not to mention, before I left he suggested several nearby places to get even more authentic LA dining experiences. After much deliberation I decided to start with a blackened alligator appetizer and I chose the seafood lasagna as my main entree. Both of my kids settled on a fried fish child's plate with fries and hush puppies. After the first bite we knew we had made the right decisions. The alligator bites came out first, I had never had them grilled before, only fried, and I don't think I ever want to eat them any other way. Tender, full of flavor, and simply amazing with the perfectly paired "gator sauce", I should've ordered three of'em. Defiantly something I want to try and recreate at home. The seafood lasagna was easily the best take on the classic dish I've ever eaten. Jumbo lumps of crab, shrimp, crawfish, and ricotta all layered between perfectly cooked lasagna and covered in a delicious cream sauce. Each bite brought with it an explosion of taste and texture unmatched by any Italian version of the traditional spaghetti cake. The portion size was enough that I could have had leftovers, but I couldn't stop eating. I could've ate that stuff till I got sick. Not to mention the roll that came with it; crispy and buttery on the outside, pillowy and warm on the inside. Utter perfection. As I mentioned, my kids ordered "children's plates" but these were anything but. Easily enough to feed an adult, these little mountains of Louisiana delicacy were overflowing with shrimp, fries, and even a couple of hush puppies. Even my pickiest eater was impressed and finished as much as he could and that says a lot! I had to try some too and the hope was real. Perfectly flavored fried shrimp; a crispy and crunchy batter crust with a juicy inner shrimp that tasted clean and fresh. The fries were top notch as well. Cooked to a golden perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. Great place to stop, and out of all the options I Googled, I'm glad I landed on this one. A cozy, comfortable atmosphere, delightful staff who seemed to appreciate their jobs, and delicious, mouth watering food at a reasonable price make The Chimes a definite must stop for anyone visiting Baton Rouge. read more

I placed a pick up order online so cannot speak for the service or ambiance inside, although the patio looked quite nice. Ordering and pick up was super easy but thats where the positives end. I requested hush puppies but received a roll instead, which tasted a little stale - it was quite chewy. The amount of butter (and I appreciate butter) on the shrimp and grits was absurd so I could not finish the dish. The flavor of the grits was good that I did have, but the shrimp was extremely oily. I also ordered the Oreo cheesecake and it was basically a normal cheesecake with a crumbled Oreo on top. It tasted fine but I would not order again. Every single time I go, some things are missing on the menu. This used to be my favorite BR restaurant, but I stopped going a while ago due to missing menu items. Callie was our server and she was very attentive and checked on us often. I ordered the Paloma to drink and it was very good. I can't remember what my bf ordered but he enjoyed his drink too. We got the cheese fries as an appetizer and while we got a lot of bacon, we wished there was more cheese. I had the grilled salmon with hush puppies for my main dish. It comes with a salad. The salmon was delicious and the hush puppies were pretty good too. My bf got the grilled chicken and stuffed potato which he enjoyed as well. We both had leftovers for later. I often frequent Chimes when I visit Baton Rouge from Los Angeles. The food is absolutely delicious. I had several dishes and all of it is good. The shrimp and grits, crawfish Etouffe & fried catfish all are just wonderful. The atmosphere has a great vibe. A nice place for family gatherings and it's children friendly. The service was good, not impeccable, but no complaints. Overall it's a nice place to go if you just want to get out and go chill & eat with family or friends. It's one of my go to spots when I am in Baton Rouge. Oh, we have also ordered take out and the food was packed well and warm when it arrived. It was packed this holiday week but we sat with 6 immediately downstairs. Waiter was attentive despite juggling multiple tables. Everything came out with good timing. The appetizers? Oysters, drinks and entrees were all good. We had sautéed crab fingers, side salads with ranch, Caesar, and Tabasco pepper jelly dressings, buffalo wings, boudin balls, crabmeat stuffed mushrooms, spinach and artichoke dip which I love the fried bow tie pasta as the chips with, 1/2 dozen black jack oysters, dozen of traditional charbroiled oysters, seafood pasta, seafood, half and half shrimp and fish platter with a potatoe, and seafood pasta. Three adults enjoyed frozen margaritas and I enjoyed the Tiger 75...which is a French 75 with Empress Gin, if you're familiar with it, it's purple in color hence the name of the cocktail in Baton Rouge.
