Everything about this place screams eat here and come back and try everything on the menu!!! If you visit downtown Baton Rouge and do not experience a breakfast or dinner here, you did yourself a disservice. Chef Trish, Danielle, Chef Phillipe and the rest of the team have created incredible dishes that will blow you away with the range of flavor. The design and interior is over and above most things Baton Rouge, yet the local flavor added to even a simple dish will make you want to return the very next day to try the breakfast. At least that was my experience. I stayed at the Hilton across the steeet for a long weekend and did not get to dine there once. My next trip to BTR will be booked at Hotel Indigo and I cannot wait to try more of the menu. Must try's are: Chef Trish's potato creation and Chef Philippe's Wild Boar (invasive species) Gumbo. I'm so thankful for the dining experiences and even for purchasing Chef Phillipe's book while he was there and having it signed. I feel like I experienced the greatest thing in Downtown BTR, simply by walking across the street and chatting with Chef Trish on the bench outside and again seeing Danielle outside another morning. I've never left a review like this and if I had better vocabulary, it would be more polished. Thanks again for the many dining experiences in just a few short days.

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

This place is awesome…read more I ended up here the other day not because I planned ahead. Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

The food was amazing. I had the Southwest Omelet which came with brisket inside cheese and avocado. Everyone else at the table had a bite of my omelet it was so good. It came with potatoes. I also tried their biscuits and cinnamon butter and they were chefs kiss. Perfectly made. The grits were a 1000/10. The best grits I have ever eaten and I've eaten man grits in my life. The service was so great. We had an amazing waitress who was so sweet and helpful since it was our first time and was able to help our large group during our visit!

Haylen was our server and did an excellent job, very attentive, and all of the food came out incredibly fast. I ordered the hot sausage biscuit with cheese grits, simple but absolutely delicious. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. I also tried several mimosas (lavender, watermelon, and classic), and at just $3 each, you truly can't beat it. The food prices were very affordable too, which is a huge plus in this economy. The space was cozy and charming, almost like dining inside an antique shop. Overall, a great experience, and I can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu.
