    rock-hard, discolored burrito

Most of the staff at Zion were absolutely friendly and welcoming, except for the workers at Ponderosa Eats. We ate there twice. The first time, the food was actually amazing, but the staff all seemed like they were having a terrible day. Their attitudes were off-putting, and we honestly couldn't figure out why, they just seemed like they didn't want to be there. We brushed it off as a one-time thing. Unfortunately, our second visit confirmed it wasn't just a bad day. An older woman at the counter was clearly frustrated and repeatedly snapped at another guest, yelling "Your water cup is over there!" in a very rude tone. When we ordered, we politely asked if a breakfast burrito could be made without ham. She slowly shook her head no with the most blank, unbothered face and told us they were premade, but then said, "They're so good!" So we gave them a shot based on that. Well, the burritos were awful, rock hard and nearly inedible. We opened them up and honestly couldn't even tell what was inside. Everything was dry, discolored, and tasted like it had been sitting for days. We also ordered a coffee and a matcha, and both drinks looked and tasted like they were mostly milk with barely any coffee or matcha. When the food and drinks are this bad, rude behavior becomes even harder to overlook. As someone who's worked in customer service, I understand that bad days happen, but that attitude should never be taken out on paying customers. It really affected our experience.

We ate here 3 times while staying at the resort; once to go, twice in the restaurant itself. The portions are huge and the food is actually great. Interesting options along with upgraded basics. My ponderosa pie pizza was even delicious reheated the next night. Prices are very reasonable for what you get, as well. The restaurant is set up in a neat, different way that my family liked a lot. All of the staff was super nice too! Pic shows my hubby and his enormous $7 breakfast sandwich.

I had an amazing burger at this place! All of our food was awesome and, honestly, it doesn't have to be. It's the only place at the resort ‍

I ordered a couple of dishes I had never tried before, including a steak and chicken crusted with pistachios. The bison steak was especially memorable. The herb butter on top was incredibly delicious and added so much flavor. The food did seem to take some time to come out. The kids ordered the beef sliders and absolutely loved them. We actually had to order a second round because they disappeared so quickly. Everyone working here was friendly and welcoming, and parking was very easy, which is always a plus. The restaurant is located away from other businesses, so the dim outdoor lighting made the ambiance more appealing. Outdoor seating-on the porch or in the grass was available, we opted for the outside porch. There is inside seating too. Free parking here. I was pleased with the service, as we were seated right away, with 30 minutes to closing. Staff was attentive and courteous. Food was average as we enjoyed the Curry Bowl, more than the angel hair pasta with chicken pistachio (see my pics). Curry had a good spice to it, veggies were fresh and good portion size that was sharable.

But that's just where the experience starts, and continues whilst your selection of food and beverages are served with little tips, anecdotes and expertise without anything feeling like it's a spiel. Now the food - tremendous! I'm actually forlorn we love so far away this isn't our local! As a couple, we always share. Our choice over two evenings (one being takeout as we weren't staying at the connected hotel were: Steak tartare (I don't enjoy eggs and they accommodated this by putting them in the side) Spanish octopus Golden beets carpaccio Bolognese with the golden trio of meat blend Duck confit cassoulet Pork chop Honestly, I would order any single one of these again without hesitation. Everything component belonged on each dish, and pleasant to eat separately or piled on the fork as one mouthful. (Also appreciated when getting our takeout order that chef referred to cutlery as cutlery - rare in the US - specially when plastic takeout) Don't miss this on your Zion trip, and definitely worth going out of the way for!

Lamb meatballs: Slightly spicy, but a huge hit for all of us. The lamb was flavorful and tender, and the kids loved eating it with the pita. 3. Duck entrée: A very comforting dish. It comes with beans that complement the duck really nicely, making it a warm and satisfying plate. 4. King salmon: Another great dish perfectly cooked and nothing bad to say about it. 5. Fettuccine Bolognese: My kids ate every bite. It didn't taste like fresh pasta, but it was still very enjoyable and flavorful. I am definitely coming back to this place

Nothing too crazy, but they have multiple solid entree. I ordered the stuffed jalapeños as appetizers to start and I don't know why but I expected to be breaded. Let's just say I did not read the description. Still good, but phew it was seriously spicy, so come prepared. The jalapeños came out so quick even the person serving us was surprised, no complaints there. It came so quick I didn't even get beer yet. For the main I went with the 3 for $23: chicken enchiladas, al pastor tacos, and the wagyu tacos. None of them disappointed. The standout was the crunch the veggies had in the tacos, it really elevated the whole bite. Going in, I wasn't expecting San Diego-style tacos, and that's the right mindset to have. These are Tex-Mex tacos done well on their own terms. Ambiance was really chill when we got there we beat the crowd and it had a relaxed, laid-back vibe. By the time we left the parking lot was completely packed, looked like there wasn't a single spot available. Glad we got there when we did.

The shrimp tacos were fresh, juicy, and packed with flavor - perfectly seasoned shrimp with great toppings and that soft tortilla that holds it all together without falling apart. Highly recommend! Then the coconut shrimp - crispy on the outside, tender inside, with that sweet coconut flavor that pairs amazingly with the dipping sauce. Such a tasty twist. But the star for me was the chimichurri ribeye steak - cooked just right, super tender, and the chimichurri sauce brought bright, herby freshness that cut through the richness perfectly. One of the best steaks I've had in a casual spot like this. Everything felt fresh and housemade, portions were generous, and the vibe is chill and welcoming. If you're in the area (or making a trip!), do yourself a favor and hit up Whiptail Grill. We'll definitely be back next time we're around - craving that chimichurri ribeye already! Oh and topped it off with the flan!! So good!

We were on a trip celebrating our anniversary and we were offered complimentary dessert to help us celebrate after dinner. Even though we were stuffed, we took our waiter up on his offer. I enjoy trying small batch local ice cream and our server took the time to go find out where the ice cream was made. He let us know that the ice cream was from Salt Lake City and I settled on getting the Huckleberry ice cream - it did not disappoint. The limoncello ricatta cheesecake was equally delicious. We had a reservation for 7pm and ended up being ready for dinner much earlier. I didn't see a way to change our reservation so I just made a new one for 5:15pm with no problem. It was just after 5 and I had no issues making a new reservation online. We did see several people come in and get turned away since they did not have a reservation. They were told the next reservation was not until 8pm. The restaurant was pretty much empty and there were quite a few tables still open when we were leaving. We enjoyed our meal and had no issues, but it does seem like you need to make a reservation and the best way is online and not through the hostess.

Had a reservation to dine here on April 3, 2026, and what we experienced upon arrival was shocking,…read moreblatant hostility and unprofessional behavior from the hostess (who later identified herself as a manager). When we checked in, Ali (she was not wearing a name tag so I'm unsure about the name spelling. I found out her name from another staff) immediately told us, dismissively and with visible annoyance, that we did not have a reservation. I showed her the confirmation on my phone, but she refused to accept it and said that because it wasn't on her computer, there was "nothing she could do." I was traveling with 3 small children, staying at the lodge, and this was the only dinner option in the park. I asked Ali to please check again, and instead of helping, she loudly yelled at me to step aside so she could assist other guests. What made the situation even more upsetting was that she proceeded to help the white families behind us without issue, while continuing to dismiss and raise her voice at me. When I approached again, she again told me, very loudly and publicly, to step aside and repeated that there was nothing she could do. I was being treated as if I had done something wrong despite having a valid dinner reservation. I then asked to speak to a manager. Ali responded, "I am the manager!!" When I asked if there was another manager I could speak to, she refused multiple times before finally saying she would check. When I asked for the other manager's name ("What is their name?), she began yelling--actually yelling in my face --"HE IS A HE, NOT A THEY! HIS NAME IS SEAN!" This was screamed at me in front of other guests and was completely inappropriate and aggressive. She stormed off and a few minutes later Sean came to assist us. I explained what had just happened. He apologized and attributed her behavior to her "having a rough day" and the restaurant being busy. He then turned the reservation screen toward me to show that my reservation supposedly wasn't there, but I immediately spotted my reservation and pointed it out. He appeared confused and suggested it might have been a "computer glitch" or that the reservation had been deleted. (I wonder who could've deleted my reservation from the computer....) We were eventually seated, but only after being yelled at, dismissed, and humiliated. I considered letting this go, but I just can't. This was the only negative experience on an otherwise wonderful family trip to Zion, and it was significant. No one should be treated this way. Regardless of how busy a restaurant is, there is absolutely no excuse for this level of hostility, nor for speaking to guests in such a demeaning and aggressive manner. Management needs to be aware: someone who treats customers this way should not be in a customer-facing role, let alone acting as a manager. I sincerely hope steps are taken to ensure no other family has to go through what we experienced.
