They are delicious and sometimes have the grilled chicken available, but it's not always guaranteed. It is likely that they've run out of the popular sides like Mac and cheese by around 7 pm. All in all - it's good, but the item availability and their unusual horchata (it tasted like peanuts) will keep us putting this lower on our list of go-to's when we are in town. read more

Pollo Campero - Half and half - grilled and fried box - Chicken Shop Near Me - Kyle, Texas

I had big expectations about this place because one of a fellow yelper said it is great, so i had to try it. Unfortunately maybe It was not the best day. Service was fast. Inside was clean well lit and organized. Something is off with the setting they seem not super comfortable on the booths. Anyhow so far we are still 5 star. On the other hand, Let's talk about food chicken was extremely greasy and fries were just sad, so we are back to 3 Stars I will definitely come and try again, as you should as well read more

The drive to Kyle is worth it!! Pollo campero is comfort food for us and it never disappoints. The chicken is seasoned to perfection and crispy. The yuca fries were good and the plantains were cooked perfectly. We ate so fast I forgot to take a picture. Honestly one of our favorite places for chicken. read more

I love this place ! Pollo campero has an authentic flavor in its chicken from Central America that is so delicious ! I love that their food is Guatemalan and that they pride themselves and have it written on the walls. The rice and beans were delicious very tasty. The guy Rogelio was nice and the older kitchen lady was also very nice and kind. They had great customer service Rogelio asked us if we needed anything when they brought the food and the lady brought us out the food as well. When we left he checked if we needed to go boxes and bags. Very nice restaurant overall solid experience and will return for the juicy chicken YUM! read more

The chicken was very well seasoned and had great flavor! Would definitely come back! Great service as well

It was my first time trying this Guatemalan chain restaurant, which (dare I say) is better than Chick-fil-A! They offer chicken sandwiches with choice of side dishes. I got spicy chicken with plantains and yuca fries. The sauce tastes so similar to Chick-fil-A sauce. The staff is so friendly-they were able to answer our questions on the food. In addition to typical soda, they also offer mango, hibiscus, and horchata drinks. The food is like fast food but the inside of the restaurant is so clean and you don't have to clean up yourself! It has a drive thru. read more

Always in the mood for a new experience, especially with fried chicken! Drove through for a quick chicken sandwich & the manager offered a sample of the bone in fried chicken. Respectable sized pieces (unlike Popeye's & many chains), tender, juicy, delicious! read more

Let me start off by saying I really wanted this place to be successful because I know how good they can be. I've had the chance to first try it in Guatemala when we were on vacation visiting my hubby's family and everything was sooo good. The plantains were my favorite and the chicken excellent. We came the first time to this location when they had the grand opening. They had a wheel you can spin for prizes and they were giving out samples of their drinks like horchata. We knew we would be waiting a while. There was ALOT of people. The staff was keeping up and they were serving with smiles. The chicken and rolls are good. We tried to have a little bit of everything but those two were my focus. The place is set up like a fast food joint with a drive thru and they have an app to earn rewards and order with the app. I would say give it a chance and go from there. read more

Decent fast food restaurant. Drive thru staff is always friendly and chicken sandwiches are generally pretty good. We had a couple of times where the sandwich didn't taste as good as normal, however it's generally pretty decent. We find it's better than KFC and Popeyes. Give them a try! read more

We were excited to try this new place in Kyle. We waited a while to give them a chance to work out the bugs ... Well, gotta say, pretty disappointed. First we had to wait more than 20 minutes for our food. The grilled chicken was extremely dry. The beans taste like ranch style beans. And they no longer have mashed potatoes ... after they just started here!! The mac n cheese was okay, but a little clumpy. The fried chicken wasn't bad and the rolls were really good. Those two things are the only reason this place gets 3 stars. Otherwise I'd give it 1 star. read more

Although I dislike leaving bad reviews, I have to be honest. My husband loves rotisserie chicken and was excited when he learned that Pollo Campero was going to be close. He thought he found his local fix, however he was mistaken. The drive through was empty so I checked the reviews. They were bad but Hubby still wanted to give it a try. We bought a 4 piece mix, fried and baked (that's what I call it) with coleslaw and rice. The chicken was dry. The fried chicken had a seasoning on it that I found overwhelming. The slaw was soupy, way too wet for us, and the rice was ok. Overall, we will not be back. I hope they are able to change their recipes or something to improve their food. read more

Pollo Campero - Fried chicken-dry - Chicken Shop Near Me - Kyle, Texas

I love this place. * * * If you read the other reviews - It looks like Pollo Campero had a long long long long learning curve. It took forever to get service levels and kitchen reliability levels up to where these need to be. The earlier Yelp reviews list horror story after horror story after horror story. * * * I am pleased to say that management has finally gotten all the bugs out. The end result is really impressive. Pollo Campero specializes in Guatemalan Fried Chicken. Guatemalan Fried Chicken is NOT American Fried Chicken. It is better - much better. Guatemalan Fried Chicken has a smooth surface - not the bumpy surface we expect in a fried chicken. It is spicy but not hot. There is hot sauce on the table if you want to go for hot. There is zero grease. Like zero. There is a ton of flavor both in the batter and in the chicken itself. It is an absolutely splendid dish. * * * They offer a variety of side dishes. One of them is mashed red beans. You want mashed red beans. You really really want mashed red beans. Guatemalan mashed red beans blow away Mexican refried beans. And I am a man who really loves Mexican refried beans. * * * Contrary to the reports of other Yelpers, Service levels are now pretty good. This is NOT instantaneous fast food. They do NOT have the food sitting in a basket under a heat lamp being kept lukewarm so you can eat right now. There is non-trivial last minute preparation to get your food where it needs to be. Let them do their job. Your food will take five minutes - not five seconds. The results will be worth it. * * * This is a splendid addition to the Austin-San Marcos Latin American food scene. We are absolutely talking about destination eating. Drive all the way up or down I-35 to eat at a fast food place on the highway? Trust me. It will be worth it. Just make sure to eat in the restaurant rather than taking your food home. This fried chicken will lose a lot sitting in some bag. Eat it at its peak - and you are in for a treat. read more

I was in Kyle for an appointment and noticed this new restaurant, so I thought I'd try it. The drive-thru line didn't seem that long but the wait was a bit longer than expected. I almost got out of the line but couldn't. The line eventually moved and it wasn't too long after that when I reached the window. I ordered the Campero chicken bowl. It was ok. Not horrible but nothing to bring me back. The portion of chicken was generous. I definitely couldn't finish the bowl. It could use more cheese and some sauce. Pinto beans are typically a bit mushy, so it was a little odd in a bowl. The "avocado" was definitely a mix of other ingredients. Tasted fine, though. I read reviews while waiting in line. It is fairly new, so it might take some time for staff to get adjusted and trained. I also read their fried chicken is really good. If it's like the chicken in the bowl I can see why. This chicken patty was well seasoned and crispy. A little confused and disappointed that the chicken patty "contains pork" but it is clearly stated on the menu. The young lady at the window was ok. She was busy, no complaints. read more

I ordered 12 piece mixed at the drive through. When I approached the attendant on the window she said they did not have mixed, that only one breast was available, I told her I'll take one breast and the rest dark. She proceeded to talk to the manager and after a minute or 2 she came back and said yes we now have mixed. She told to pull over to wait. Few minutes later another employee came to handled me the bag. When I got home and opened the box to serve " surprise " all dark no mixed... So why all the wait and why lies ... . Horrible customer service and not trustworthy. If they could lie about that what else could they lie about just to make a sale. read more

Obligatory one star for being a place that exists. I really wanted to try this place after hearing good reviews from friends outside of Texas. After looking forward to it for several months, finally decided to come in. The drive-thru was busy, the dining room somewhat busy. The tables were not being bussed so while only a few of the tables were occupied, the majority that were not occupied were not picked up. Bathrooms were also pretty dirty. Maybe they're understaffed. Before I continue, I just want to stress that the people who work here are extremely friendly and polite. Customer service from a soft skills perspective is not an issue. Easy order for 5: 2x orders of nuggets 1x 1 piece fried order 1x 2 piece fried order 1x 2 piece grilled order Upon ordering, cashier noted it would be about 20 minutes to get chicken. Cook in the kitchen corrected her that it would be a lot faster. Either way, we were ok. 30 minutes later, no sign of food. "It's coming up!". 10 minutes pass and the people handing out food assure us it's coming - as they serve people who arrived after us. 45 minutes in, I request a refund. Had I known it would take this long, I would not have waited. As I'm requesting refund, a cook assures me we're next as she only needs to make our nuggets. No thanks, refund please. 15 minute refund process later walk out not having tasted the food at all. Not even during the time of processing the refund did the food finish being prepared. I'm not sure what the deal was, but clear communication and being forthcoming about the wait would have been enough for us to stay and wait. Judging the by larger orders that arrived after us and got their food way before us, it seems as if they cleared our order before I inquired about it the first time then put us back (in the back) of the queue. Hats off for being polite during the ordeal though not 100% forthcoming about it. After processing the refund, the manager revealed that 2 of their fryers are down which is why people were experiencing 20 minute waits. No answer as to why we had waited 45+ minutes. Can't tell you how the food is, but after wasting more than an hour here for nothing, I'm in no rush to make my way back. Kyle is booming right now and there are several options in this area. All of them are just as new, all of them are cleaner. None of them are worth the wait we experience at this fast-food establishment. read more

Pollo Campero always seems to have a line of cars so we've avoided it, but had heard good things from this Guatemalan born recent addition to Kyle's restaurant landscape. After a trip to Costco the family and I decided to grab a late lunch and there wasn't a big line so it was the perfect time. We went inside but we ordered to go. We got the 8 piece dinner (enough for 4) and split the chicken half fried and half grilled. It was off peak time (2:30p) but the restaurant was pretty full. We were 3rd in line to order. Waited about 10 minutes for our order. The chicken was really good. Juicy and flavorful. The grilled had a nice lemon-peppery zing. The fried had a good crispy skin. Yuca fries are stout and filling. Just 2-3 suffice. Plantains were a nice sweet dessert-like end to the meal. Feeding a family of 4 for under $30. We will be back. read more

For those with allergies please beware!! Their HORCHATA has PEANUTS !! Their website says tree nuts and milk But Not all Horchatas are the same as most people know Horchatas from Mexico is made of (rice milk and sugar and cinnamon). This is a Central American chain and the horchata is different. Unfortunately my little nephew had an allergic reaction to taking a few sips of his horchata drink.he is ONLY allergic to peanuts . Central American Horchata is made with spices and nuts and PEANUTs Their website didn't state that so just wanted to let any other readers thinking of going here to just know this. It was a scary Sunday evening at the hospital. And I did alert their manager and corporate to update this information ! But who knows how long that will take. So Consumers must know! Our Drive thru order was cold they forgot beans and plantains in my meal order and dips for sandwiches. So not sure if it's worth the hype . Check your drive through orders and make sure they r accurate before driving off it's a pain when u get home and see that food is missing and you are charged . read more

Very tasty and quick service! The grilled chicken had awesome flavor and the mac and cheese is simple yet tasty.

Our family walked in Pollo Campero for the first time and we're instantly greeted warmly and thanked for our support. The restaurant looked colorful, fun, welcoming, and super clean. The staff were all smiling and ready to rock. We ordered the 20 pc. Family Meal and it was impressive! The air-fried chicken was super delicious and the seasoning on the grilled chicken was exceptional. We felt the food is truly worth every penny. The staff checked on us twice once we received our lunch to make certain we were happy. We were truly "Wow'd" by our experience and encourage you guys to give them a shot. It seems they've worked out all of the "bugs" from being newly opened 2 weeks ago and are taking this opportunity to serve Kyle, TX seriously. read more

Wanted to try this place out as it's new to the area. Placed an online order on a Monday evening for ASAP. Pick up and it was a 50 minute wait! Ok, fine, no big deal. For us to pick it up it's about a 30 minute round-trip. We arrive timely and the order is there in a sealed paper bag. We should've checked it before we left the parking lot, however, we did not open the bag until we got home and discovered we were missing a third of the items! The label on the bag was marked correctly, so we assumed everything was in the bag. When we called to let them know of their mistake, it took them ages to find the order and they're only solution was for us to come back and get the food. They would not offer any partial refund for the missing items. So we had to drive 30 minutes to get our missing items and eat all the food cold and late. It was the principle at this point. On top of that, the food was cold (from the start) and the chicken was dry. We ordered a family meal with half grilled and half fried chicken with rice, beans and yucca fries. Honestly, it's not good. None of it. Save yourself and don't eat here; plenty of other better choices nearby. Disappointing for sure. read more

We decided to give this place a try a few days ago despite the abundance of horrible reviews. Really glad we gave them a try. The empty tables were clean and ready for the next customer. Overall, the place seemed clean. Our food was brought to our table within just a few minutes. Our order was correct. Our food was hot and fresh. Thought the seasoning on the fried chicken was very tasty. The coleslaw was good even though I don't really care for creamy coleslaw. Tried my husband's yuca fries and they were really good. Loved the horchata selections. Nice to have a real plate and a real fork to eat with in a fast-food place. Though it was pretty late in the day they were still busy. Pollo Campero - The chicken was hard to bite into they messed up our order and put chicken nuggets inside the sandwich never coming back again. - Chicken Shop Near Me - Kyle, Texas

I am not a fan of fast food and usually don't eat it but my kids do. However i will get chicken from time to time. i came across this place on Grubhub when i searched chicken. For all years driving by i always thought it was Mexican food and i will NEVER eat Mexican fast food thanks to shittobell. Once i realized this was chicken and not really Mexican food i gave it a shot. I got the grilled chicken 3 piece with side of beans and French fries. I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted very good. The skin was a little slimy, hence the reason for 4 stars and not 5. But it still had good flavor. (Next time i got fried and it wasn't slimy, it was awesome) my kids got the nuggets and fries. They both said it was best tasting nuggets ever. My sons exact words were "the seasoned it correctly unlike most chicks places that don't season their chicken well" i happened to agree with him. We also had the exact same thing to say about the fries. Both of us had cold fries since it was delivered and we both said "they're cold but they're still tasty" which I've never tasted a "good" cold French fry. NOW, to my favorite thing they have that i can't stop thinking about and have ordered 3 times in last 2 weeks because of. THE BEANS! Holy sh*t, they're amazing. You will never find any drive through, fast food beans that tastes like that, anywhere. If you're reading this and trying to decide what to get for a side, get the beans. They're awesome and the bread they give you just works very weak together. Last order i got a family size beans and 6 rolls, i let the kids have the chicken and i destroyed those beans and bread. great job to the chef that created that recipe, im impressed and im never impressed by fast food anything. NOW, the rice on the other hand, is lame. Don't order the rice. Not sure about other sides cause we haven't yet tried them but we will and i will leave another review of them. Oh btw, their Mexican drinks are great as well. But even better, it comes with a lid that opens like a coffee to-go cup lid and you can drink it with lid on without straw. That's great cause I'm a manly man who hates girly straws. Sorry no pics because there's no Time for that when you're a hungry manly man!! read more

This place has gone down hill fast after their opening last year. my family and I wanted to try this place the second time around and were very disappointed. I've order a family meal which should be easy to prepare. We waited and waited an hour went by and no meal. I spoke to the cashier and asked her why its was taking so long. The response was "in this place it takes 30 to 45 minutes to get a meal out" with that we went back and forth. After all the excuses given, I asked for my money back. Besides the place is filthy, the tables are not buzzed, for fast food, it's not worth the trip nor the effort. read more
