Ember Kitchen - Salmon entree special with red cabbage

Ember Kitchen

Ember Kitchen is 10/10. Easily the best meal I've had in Austin in a minute. We had a huge group…read morefor my birthday and a friend reunion, and the vibes were perfect. The pork chop with mole was actually insane. If you go, you have to get it, no questions asked. But for real, Claire was the highlight of the night. She's awesome and honestly made the whole experience for us. It's rare to get service that good with a big family group, but she crushed it. I'm definitely coming back every time I'm in town just to see her and get that pork chop again. Don't skip this place!

Overall, I…read morethink Ember Kitchen is certainly worth checking out, but I think I might order a little differently next time. First off - parking is convenient in the Seaholm parking garage. My understanding is that Ember will validate, but it wasn't apparent to me how that works and honestly I walked out forgetting it and having to pay the bill for parking - oh well. I came with a party of six and we were celebrating a birthday. The team at Ember was very accommodating. We were seated downstairs in their "Speakeasy" room. It's a bit dark, but cool atmosphere. There are other dining options if you prefer a bit brighter setting. We were served complimentary birthday shots! These were quite tasty - enough so that I ordered another round of those citrus based shooters. Everyone at the table ordered a cocktail. Nearly all the cocktails on the menu are going to be served in a feminine looking glass and with a flower. The cocktail menu is pretty much for the ladies. On the bright side, they have a good selection of bourbons, tequila, etc available for straight pours at a decent price. Not extensive selection, but I think a good choice - enough that I think you will find something to fit your price point and taste profile. Our waitress was top notch. Very attentive and paid close attention to the orders from our gluten sensitive guest ensuring she ordered safely. We ordered a couple small plates as appetizers for the whole table. Everyone loved the crab cake. I thought it was tasty but wasn't expecting whole kernel corn in a crab cake so that threw me off a little. Market seafood crudo - this is a fish appetizer and as the name implies changes based on availability. The night we ate was a Hamachi or Salmon option. The salmon had a bit more of a spicy sauce so we chose that. It was a hit. We also chose a tuna tartare and it was fresh, good but didn't knock our socks off. When ready for the main course - our waitress had a number of off-menu specials to tell us about and honestly many were very interesting options. In fact, we chose to split a 50oz Tomahawk steak. This was a huge steak plated on a hot platter, already sliced off the bone with some fingerling potatoes. This was honestly the most expensive part of the meal (no surprise), but also the least impressive. Now visually it was a spectacle for sure, but the meat certainly had pieces that were tough with some large pieces of fat. Now I don't mind the fat, but when sliced there were a couple pieces that were nothing but fat, other pieces still that were mostly gristle. We all agreed the seasoning was just missing, it seemed to have no seasoning at all. It was also quite charred. One of the claims to fame here is their Josper oven and clearly it can put a good char on a steak. Some in our party liked it, but I thought it was a bit much. There can be fine line between a good steak crust and a burnt crust. I thought it was a bit much, and maybe why the seasoning seemed missing. On the bright side, it was cooked correctly to order. My only problem was, for the price, this was a complete miss. We also ordered scallops and the morida shrimp. Both were excellent. These were probably worth coming back for. The morida shrimp come served in a bowl with a rich sauce that was enjoyed by the whole party. The scallops come pan seared and were cooked perfectly - which is key to enjoying a good scallop. Be aware that the typical order of scallops though comes with only two scallops - rather light even for a single individual, because these were not on the "small plates" menu, it was supposed to be a full entree. Great experience overall, but we just felt not quite worth what we had to pay for it. Overall, it was just over $150 per person. What could have saved it - for that price, the steak HAS to be on point.

It's been a while since have done brunch and o won't be in a hurry to return to brunch specifically The service was superb, we had a great server and he was absolutely on top of everything which was great! Beers were also great as was the mimosa I had and the kids we were with seemed to like their meals which came out last and they said theirs were hot - ours were not unfortunately. I had the Lox eggs Benedict and in retrospect should have sent it back as it was stone cold! My husband and our friend got the biscuits and gravy and also reported that they were cold - it was also served in a bowl which was a bad idea as the biscuits completely soaked up the gravy and resembled oatmeal by the time it hit the table! We got one meal - waffles and chicken to go and the waffles were inedible- poorly mixed, gritty and so much hot sauce in the mixture that they burned the back of the throat - they had to be trashed ! I love this place but won't return in a hurry for brunch - granted multiple dishes with eggs are hard to time right so we ended up with cold food that did however taste good

Main dish, I had lamb chops with potatoes. That was pretty good, but the meat could definitely use more seasoning. My friend was very happy with her salmon and the brussels were tasty. They were happy to chat with us without forcing conversation. As a group of 3 we ordered the traditional hummus, whipped bulgarian feta, beet tahini, the cucumber labne, falafel, pan fried halloumi and baklava apple pie for dessert. The group was not what I would call big eaters so we had leftovers (we likely should have ordered 1 less dish), they recommend 2-3 dishes per person (dips and meze). The hummus was decent, but I would not feel the need to order it again, the bulgarian feta was delicious and was tied with best dish of the night with the falafel. The falafel had perfect texture, crispy on the outside without cutting your mouth and soft on the inside. The beet tahini just tasted like beets and nothing else so I would not get that again. The cucumber labne was tasty and the halloumi was the only dish I took a bite of and would not take another. The texture of the cheese was rubbery, so despite having a crunchy exterior and delicious sauce underneath, I found the halloumi to be extremely disappointing. I am not a chef, but if they simply grilled the halloumi and served it on top of the sauce I think it would be much better. Desserts are not my thing but my friends enjoyed it even though they admitted the baklava apple pie was painfully sweet. I liked that it came with labne ice cream to make it a bit different. Overall it was a nice meal, the ambiance is modern and clean and the service was fantastic. A good spot for a nice dinner out.

And while it works on-screen, I'm not sure I would agree it works in a world where people subconsciously enjoy certain textures and flavors. A friend of mine chose Isidore for our monthly mom's night out and my interest was piqued after doing a little research but also...cautious. Having gone to my fair share of similar restaurants, I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually been impressed. That being said, let me give you my thoughts more succinctly. First, the menu has no clear order or theme and rather looks like a bunch of random dishes thrown together without considering the need for things to be complimentary. While the servers were knowledgeable and doing their best to guide us, we ultimately realized this meal wasn't going to hit the spot we were hoping an actually considered leaving. Second, I give the food choices a 6.5 out of 10. The first choice was a sort of "whey ravioli in foam". Needless to say we thought about sending it back the moment it hit the table just because the foam and the smell was not what I would consider "appetizing". We fished around in the foam for a "ravioli" swallowed it and confirmed we were not going to eat another bite. That was a ZERO for us. The second dish we chose was the grilled cabbage, which was actually very good and ultimately would have been a good side with the aged waygu steak but... each of our choices came out individually. The cabbage was covered in herbs (dill) and was very good. 10/10. Lastly was the steak. Yes, it was good but no-where near the best steak I've ever had. It came with roasted carrots on the side which were yummy but not rave-worthy. 8/10 for the steak. In conclusion, service was EXCELLENT, but the food needs a clear focus. I would absolutely return if the menu changed to have items that actually were appetizing and more approachable. But until that time, swipe, next.

From the very first bite, I knew these tacos were on a completely different level compared to anything I've tried before. The flavor, the freshness, the way everything came together--it was honestly incredible. I've had tacos from a lot of different places, but nothing has come close to tasting this good. I genuinely don't know what they put in these tacos to make them taste so amazing, but whatever they're doing, they've absolutely perfected it. The first time I tried them felt almost surreal. It reminded me of that iconic scene in the movie *Ratatouille* where the food critic takes a bite and instantly gets transported back to his childhood, remembering his mom's homemade cooking. That's honestly the closest way I can describe the feeling--it was like pure comfort and nostalgia all in one bite. On top of the incredible food, the **prices are amazing**. It's honestly surprising that food this good can still be so affordable. You're getting top-tier flavor and quality without paying crazy prices, which makes the experience even better.
