We saw this place on (Texas) Elder Eats and I'm starting to get upset with most of his choices. The hot dog was ok. Not bad but I wish it was a bit more of the plump hot dogs instead of standard. The bun was buttery and good. The wings were standard. Not bad. The asada fries were very salty. I think it was the cheese but can't be for sure but it wasn't the fries. The Mac and cheese was ok. I think it was the same cheese as the asada. Didn't stand out. Now for the best part...the tenders are good. The coating is delicious and you can tell they season or marinate it. They were tender and juicy. No complaints. Also, we were excited to try the cinnamon rolls however, the 2 they had out there looked older and dry; not appetizing so we didn't get any. The atmosphere is cozy with fountain drink machine and plenty of seating. Customer service was good. They don't accept bills larger than $20. Just FYI.
Bird Dog is a great little restaurant I've been trying to check out for while. Today was the day it happened. I ordered their MESSY DOG and it was just that. I also ordered HOLY COW CHEESEBURGER. It was a takeout order but from what I viewed it was clean. The taste of the messy dog was surprisingly tasty with an all beef hot dog smothered with carne asada and a creamy cheese sauce with sautéed onions and peppers. The bun was able to hold it all without falling apart. The hot dog had a snap when biting through it just like it should have. It was a bit salty but I definitely would order it again. The cheese burger was also very tasty as my husband and I split the two items. The flavor of the patty was really good as well as juicy and not dry or overcooked. The bun also stood up for the challenge and didn't fall apart. The service very friendly and the food was prepared with care and not just slapped together.
We saw this place on KSAT so decided to take the drive. They had a variety on the MENU. The customer service was amazing. The food was delicious! Nice and clean. Absolutely love the experience and the food! Will definitely be back. Thank you!
The wife and I happened here by accident. We were heading up to Dallas, got hungry, and exited in I35. We did not want your typical Chick-fil-A or Jack in the Box, so we took a chance on Bird Dog. Boy, did we win that bet! This place is awesome. I could pour that chili sauce on a piece of cardboard and eat it with a smile on my face. Oh, the happy little accidents. I'll be back.
What we ordered: The Filthy Asada Fries and The Mother Clucker. For that plate: you get 6 tenders and for sides we chose the Elote and Mac and cheese. My wife likes to try potato salad but she is also quite picky about it. After discussing it with the employee- she decided against it since she said they didn't make it in house. But when we got our food brought to our table- there was a side of potato salad! She explained we didn't ordered it but the employee- same person who took out order- said the owner wanted you to try it and it was on them! Very impressive customer service! Not only was the first woman very accommodating as we tried to figure out what to order- she also recommended sauces and we really enjoyed the Sucky avocado ranch she said was her favorite. The chicken strips and the queso were the stars that day. The chicken strips were very juicy-- not at all Ike regular fast food strips. The queso was the same topper to the Filthy fries and mac and cheese. It was very good- def not from a can. The owner was very nice- he came out and chatted with us a bit. Told us a lil bit of his history with the business. That's what stood out to us- how friendly and generous each employee was there. Definitely recommend. Definitely will be back.
Hubby wanted to try something new so the family ordered Bird Dog. When he went to pick it up, he said they were really nice and the restaurant smelled so good. Apparently they fresh bake cinnamon rolls and cookies! He said the staff were nice and told him that they just took a fresh batch out of the oven. We ordered burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, fries, and onion rings. They were all delicious! I didn't get pictures of everything because the family moved fast! This is definitely on our list of good in San Marcos!
Great service. Small but mighty menu. Our first time trying it. We were in and out in 30 minutes and everything was delicious. Very quiet, but spacious. Great for kids, families. The chicken was tender, juicy and had some seasoning that was to die for. The elote dog was sausage and bacon and packed with flavor. Will try again.
I attended a conference in San Marcos and for a lunch break, I wanted to support a local business. Searching Yelp, I found Bird Dog. It looked good so I went. It was a great experience!!! I had an OG Dog, and it tasted fantastic!!! I loved the chopped bacon bits on top. A very pleasant surprise was they served horchata!!! The service was fast and friendly. The atmosphere was very relaxed and inviting. I would highly recommend eating here.
Aesthetically the place is cute, a little small and comes with a fire place. There was plenty of drink options, I was actually surprised by the menu choices. However we were not impressed with the food. Elotes were over cooked and maybe had oil or butter possibly, didn't seem to have mayo or queso fresco. The chicken was juicy however the breading taste like frozen chicken tenders. The fried pickles were also over cooked. The cheese on the asada fries was like a white nacho cheese, it was pretty creamy. Wasn't exactly enjoyed. Everything else was ok. Over all not very impressed with the food. Waiting staff was courteous.
The chicken tenders here are great! I would definitely recommend this joint. Pricing isn't bad at all. We got 20 tenders with 8 sauces for $40. Large fry, or I should say family fry, was $7.60. There was more than enough for 4 people. The service was great also. No complaints here at all.
Was looking for San Marcos BBQ, but the address brought me here. It was a great surprise as the food was prepared fresh and delicious! Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm smile and friendly service. The ambiance was very open with a long table right in the middle of the dining area, which is great for big parties. The tenders has a thin light crust and their dipping sauces were tasty. Parking was plentiful and there is a drive-thru as well. A must return for us. Enjoy!
Menu is somewhat limited (but hey that works for In-N-Out, right? ). The buns are soft and fresh, dogs have a nice snap to them and are thick. The toppings were all delicious (especially the chorizo chili on the Wicked Chili dog). I'd give it five stars, but when all is said and done, we're talking hot dogs, am I right?

After a day of shopping, we stopped here for a bite. It was our first time and before we left, I asked my husband when we could return. It's that good! My husband ordered the wicked dog and loved it. I had a bite and can see why. I had the chicken strip combo and it's the best I've ever had. The chicken strips were juicy, flavorful and large. We substituted the mac and cheese and it was so good, it ruined all other mac and cheese forever. It was that good. Creamy, flavorful and plentiful. Our cashier, who was very friendly, also threw in extra fries, which were good. We ordered a gold bar pastry, which is kinda like a brownie with other stuff in it, including coconut. Incredible flavor! And my husband ordered a banana pudding, which, you guessed it, was heavenly (no photo, sorry). Plenty of comfortable seating. The restaurant was spotless and it's right off 35. I'm planning our next trip! read more

Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm smile and friendly service. The ambiance was very open with a long table right in the middle of the dining area, which is great for big parties. I've passed by this place for months now and never stopped. Well, yesterday was the day!!! Me and my daughter wanted a quick lunch and Bird Dog was the choice. The menu is basically hot dogs and tender combos etc. But, these aren't your average dogs and birds. The hot dogs were crispy, flavorful, and juicy. The OG Dog is topped with bacon and lots of their signature sauce. The tenders were seasoned well and crispy. We loved the Texas toast and French fries too. The restaurant has nice clean wood tables and bar style seating. The cashier was super cool and brought our food right to the table for us. This is definitely a must have lunch spot when in the area. read more
Driving back to Austin from San Antonio and decided to try Bird Dog--right off I-35! I think it used to be a BBQ joint, but now it's all about chicken tenders and hot dogs, and honestly... it works! The chicken tenders were so good--crispy, flavorful batter and super juicy inside. I tried the avocado ranch dip (I think they make their own sauces!), and it paired perfectly. The meal comes with fries and a side & mac & cheese was Creamy and delicious! My daughter ordered the asada fries, and they were fully loaded with meat and cheese--definitely a hit. We also shared the Ol' Smokey dog, and it ended up being my favorite! Tons of flavor and cooked just right. And their sweet tea!!! Omgosh! Now that's a Texas sweet tea! I love that they also have the aqua fresas - the pineapple & jicama are our favs!!! Great little spot for comfort food with a twist--definitely worth the stop! read more

Wow! Bird Dogs is SO delicious. We ordered the Bird Basket, the Naughty Dog, the OG Dog, and the Elote Dog--and every single bite was packed with flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy, rich, and super filling. The hot dogs were next-level yummy and perfectly done. The chicken tenders are 10 out of 10!!!!!Everything was fresh and flavorful. Food came out super quickly but everything was fresh! Service was extremely kind and welcoming, it was a very relaxed and clean dining room. I had the carne asada fries and my wife opted for the 3 tender plate. This would definitely be a regular place for me if I lived in San Marcos, and it will be a stop for me anytime i'm here! read more

First time trying this restaurant. We were greeted as we walked in to the almost empty restaurant. The gentleman that helped us was great, very friendly. So we were off to a good start. Have seen this place many times but never have stopped. Let me tell you, we will definitely be back!! Let's start with the menu. They serve large chicken strips and awesome hot dogs!! They have a few more items but my wife and I didn't really pay much attention. We didn't come here with intentions to give a review. The chicken was not only big pieces but they were very tasty. Both the fries and chicken were hot!! The Texas toast looked great but my wife ate both pieces. So I can not say how the toast tasted. Lol We also got their "Wicked chili dog"!! Lord have mercy this chorizo chili was awesome!! And the dog it self was beyond a normal hot dog. It was a sausage maybe the chorizo. But it was very tasty. People!! Don't sleep on this place!! After spending the morning and early afternoon shopping at the outlets we needed fuel before we head back to SA. We found this on Yelp and was pleased it wasn't too far from the outlets. Since it was too early for dinner- we were it was pretty dead on this Friday late afternoon. We definitely wanted to Filthy fries because we try Carne Asada fries whenever we see them on a menu. And then we chose the Mother Clucker to share between the 3 of us since it had 6 chicken strips. We couldn't decide on the sauces so they were nice enough to recommend some and let us try a couple more than what came with the meal. There's a spicy avocado ranch that was so yummy- we all gravitated towards it. The owner came out to talk to us and he even threw in a free dessert to try. He said they are constantly trying out new recipes- this time it was a pumpkin roll. He was very proud of his chicken strips when we sang our praises of how tender they were. We really loved the food but loved the customer service even more. They Mac and cheese is not to be forgotten because they use the queso! The same stuff they smother their filthy fries with! The only thing the fries needed was probably some kind of a pico and hot sauce/ salsa. But all in all- we will def be back whenever we are in San Marcos! read more

Notorious Big Bird. So much food for $10.99 (includes 2 sides and a drink!) the chicken was so tender. Sauces were great! Sides were on point. Loved the Elote cup. So so good. I can't wait to go back again. If I wasn't so full, I would have kept on eating. Delicious. The cashier was awesome too. So friendly and kind. Everything was clean. Love having napkins on the table. I have a beard and ALWAYS have to ask for extra napkins. Great place! read more

Tried Bird Dog for the first time. I think the only thing that was fresh was the hot dog bun and onion rings. I ordered the OG dog. Bacon was chewy. I chewed on a piece for almost two minutes before I spit it out. The hot dog was old like it was pre made earlier in the day. Staff were nice and friendly. read more

We went in for lunch and greeted by the owner. He genuinely was the sweetest guy ever! We were kinda tired of other chicken places so went in and tried this one. The tenders were super yummy and super tender, the fries were very good and fresh. Along with the tenders and fries the sauces they had were very good. I had tried the Spicy Avocado Ranch, Avocado Ranch, and the bird dog. The best was most definitely the spicy avocado ranch had the perfect spice to it. The hot dog pictured is the Elote dog and it was bacon wrapped with elote on top and was amazing as well. All in all it was a great restaurant and it had a great cozy feel to it. Like said the owner came out and was making sure everything was fine which we had loved. Kutos to the owner and would definitely recommend! Also would recommend the freshly baked treats they have!! read more
