I found this place thanks to my wife. This place is pretty amazing. The restaurant is very clean and staff is very friendly as well. It seems like its a family owned restaurant. The poke is pretty fresh and the portions are pretty descent. But I am glad to have found a poke place near my house since all of the ones i have been to are all close to my work place. I always get the 5 scoop bowl. I do love the fact that they do not fill the bowl with rice half way to make it look larger like they do at other poke places. I have not dined in yet, but every time that i come here luckily there hasn't been a long line. My favorite are spicy tuna and spicy salmon. I do wish their portions were a bit larger but besides that its a pretty amazing spot. The restaurant is located on a large plaza so there should be plenty of parking. Another one.. Yes, another poke review. This one's particularly special because it's in my stomping grounds. So close to me, I can run to Poki Run. :) Poki Run is a lot simpler than some other places as they don't have as many sauces and toppings. However, that's fine with me since I like to keep things nice and simple for the most part. - Service is really great. - I like their sushi rice. - Regular size always fills me up (I get half greens and half rice and never eat all of the rice.) - No charge for avocado, crab mix or seaweed salad. This place is just okay. It doesn't really leave an impression on me so I probably would not come back. The fish wasn't particularly fresh, and it has all the basic components that make up a Poke place. Nothing that makes it stand out from the numerous Poke places in the area. The Poke taste great! Their house sauce is delicious and has a little kick to it so if you can't handle spice don't go for spicy. The quality of fish is pretty good too! This poke craze isn't stopping anytime soon I am guessing. For the past year, I have seen one pop up almost every month. It's quite crazy. My first encounter with poke was at Pokinometry in Southern California. After that, I have only seen better and improved versions throughout the Bay Area. This one is no different, I really enjoyed my experience at Poki Run, though I do find them a bit more overpriced compared to other Poke restaurants due to comparison of cost vs portion. My boyfriend and I came on a Friday at about 7:30pm and it was pretty empty. Immediately I had some regrets thinking it probably wasn't good but luckily I was proved wrong. After we were in the middle of ordering, there was a line of customers. I ordered a small with half brown rice and salad. I chose tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. I had all the toppings except masago, avocado, and wasabi. One of my dislikes is that their menu is not very clear. They wrote under 'Extras' that avocado and crab were $1.50 extra but they also have in small print that it meant extra scoop. So that means the first scoop of avocado and crab were free of charge. Second complaint is that they didn't have any signs to explain the mayo sauces they had at the end. I felt like if I didn't ask about them, I probably won't have been informed what they were. Third complaint is that I felt they didn't have enough toppings like fried shallots, seaweed, etc compared to other places. Overall, I felt the portion was smaller but it was enough for me. Mehhhh. I was so excited to have a poke spot closer to home--especially once I heard they offered premium toppings without extra charge....that is until I actually went there. The "scoops" were so tiny. Like seriously three pieces of fish in a scoop. And the avocado and seaweed salad were probably a tablespoon each? They even went shady on the rice. The icing on the cake was when we were eating. My husband took a bite and pulled out a loooooooong hair. They have many options- black rice, salad, sushi rice, brown rice, and combos with either avocado rolls or California rolls. Meat options were plenty too-seared albacore, tuna, Izumi tai (white fish), salmon, cooked octopus, spicy tuna, spicy crab salad, and shrimp. They give you tons of free toppings: seaweed salad, julienned apples, edamame, cucumbers, onions, jalapeños, roe, crabmeat, ginger, wasabi, green onions, and so much more. Hm, I have all sorts of mixed feelings about this one. Poki Run didn't really stand out in any way for me. The portions are only okay, the price is more expensive than a few other poke places, the quality was average, toppings offered were average. Avocado is included in the slightly above average price (with respect to the portion given.) The place is clean but small. Tables are places awkwardly side-by-side in the middle of the restaurant. And quiet diners eat at these tables while the line wraps around them (if there's a line.) I personally opted for the counter/chairs which faced the wall. Luckily we went during off-lunch hours (around 1:30pm) and we didn't have much of a wait. I guess my biggest gripe here is that they seem to use a lot of sodium (could be MSG?) Perhaps it was the sauces... But both my boyfriend and I felt lethargic once we returned to work shortly after eating lunch here and we normally don't after a small poke bowl. Too bad this place is a miss for me.. Customer service was friendly and it's a lot closer to work than the Mountain View or San Jose poke places! With all these poke places popping up, it was bound to happen in Milpitas but I didn't know it would be this close to home! Overall, although I felt cheated with the amount of poke they give you, but after my chirashi fail from yesterday, I'd rather have this any day and it's not as painful for the wallet PLUS they have sushi rice as a base and that's a win for me! L O C A T I O N Poki Run is located in the same plaza as Orchard Supply & Hardware as well as La Milpa rather than the larger plaza to the left of it with the McDonalds and Marina Supermarket and the new TeaSociety. P A R K I N G Parking is easy. Lots of spots in the lot, so it shouldn't be a problem though I guess I came at around 3pm which isn't prime lunch time and I don't know how busy this place gets around then, but I don't think it does. I N T E R I O R It's very clean. Pretty minimalistic with a few larger tables and a bar seating area near the wall. M E N U It's straight forward, you get a bowl and you choose the size based on how much protein you want: regular (3 scoops - $10.95) or large (5 scoops - $13.50). Or make it a roll combo which is basically just the regular with a choice of sushi roll (california, cucumber, or avocado).Then choose a base: sushi rice, brown rice, and/or greens. I opted for sushi rice and greens. Then it's your choice of protein: salmon, tai (sea bream or more commonly it's red snapper that's served), yellow tail, ahi tuna, spicy tuna, or shrimp. Then if you want cucumber or onions, this is where they'll ask you too as they mix everything in your choice of House sauce, spicy sauce, or extra spicy sauce as well as sesame oil. I asked for just a tiny bit of house sauce and sesame oil. Then come the toppings which come at no extra cost: green onions, masago (fish eggs), jalapenos, ginger, wasabi, avocado, fake crab meat (in mayo), seaweed salad, sesame seed. Then at the end you have a choice of spicy mayo or wasabi mayo to drizzle on top. I didn't get either as I'm really avoiding spicy foods but boy did I want to try all the spicy stuff. You can pay by credit card and they in theory have Apple Pay if the person that helps you knows how to operate it (for me...she didn't know). All in all it came out to $11.91. I didn't get any of the drinks, but they do have them (look at my photos). I had mentioned already that I was disappointed in the quantity of fish, but I guess it just comes with the poke territory and I thought that there was too much rice, but as I started to eat everything together, I just couldn't get enough of that sushi rice. I wish it were a tad more vinegared, but at least it was vinegared! Part of me wished there was some kind of crispy crunchy texture like fried lotus chips which would've put this place at 5 stars well as well as a price dip but I can't win them all! The fish quality was good. S E R V I C E Service was fine, but I can see it backing up if people decide slowly as they pack things very carefully. The girl who served me was quite nice and was very diligent in her work. She just didn't know how to do Apple Pay, but hey they're still new. O V E R A L L As I mentioned, although fish quantity isn't a lot, it's cheaper than getting a chirashi bowl and I do appreciate they have sushi rice versus just white rice. Yesss finally I don't have to drive to San Jose for some poke. I tried this place with my cousin and even though they don't have many sauce options, they had the option of how spicy you want it. Which is GREAT! I love spicy! Portion didn't seem super huge but I actually couldn't finish a regular size which was shocking. They had standard toppings but overall I would definitely come back! I dropped by here five days ago and I've been back three times already; it's really THAT good! With all the new Poke places starting up, it's hard to pick favorites because every restaurant is different and unique in its own way; however, I think I might have to say that Poki Run is definitely one of my staples now--amongst Poki Bowl and Downtown Poki. The location might be a little harder to find since they're currently under construction, but it's definitely a hidden gem nonetheless. The store is super clean with minimal designs and decorations; there is also a little water station with cups so you can serve yourself to a drink whenever you'd like. Now, let's talk about the real deal--the food! AHhHHh, it's bomb! I'm not sure how the regular size looks like, but the large ($13.50 + w/ tax) is super duper filling for me--some times it's even hard to finish. I usually get the sushi rice with a little bit of salad on top with salmon, ahi tuna, yellowtail, tai, and albacore. Their scoopers are super tiny, but since you're getting 5 selections of protein rather than your typical 4 (which is what most Poke places serve), it's not lacking too much. They have a pretty narrow selection of sauces--house, spicy, and extra spicy with an option of sesame oil--and that's honestly one of my favorite parts about Poki Run; if you're not a connoisseur of poke, there's really no need to fear since the sauces are pretty simple compared to the whole mix-and-match shabang, which can either make or break your bowl. The family owned and operated poki run has a great feel and the customer service is great. The fish is fresh and you don't have to pay more for the extra toppings beyond the fish. The family has decades of combined experience working with fish and sushi and it is evident from the fish all the way to the sushi rice.
