As someone born and raised in Hawai'i, this poke spot is definitely worth trying! Although it may be untraditional compared to the ones back home, it is one of the best untraditional poke bowls I have ever had since I started living up in the mainland. I went here to use up some of my Grubhub credits so I ordered online in advance and got the food to-go with minimal wait. I got the large combo with spicy tuna, salmon, and albacore, with a spring mix base. The sauces I got (yuzu and house sauce) was very salty so I was eating salt near the end where all the sauces were. The sashimi cuts were okay - salmon was fresh but the cuts had a bit of tendon, and the spicy tuna did not have much tuna sashimi taste - it was fully masked by the sauce. The albacore was not too fresh. You can get as much fixings as you want so of course I opted for the imitation crab salad and seaweed salad, both of which are decent. I like poke square. It's a great fast-casual lunch spot. The guys are friendly, the food is 'affordable', it's healthy, fresh, filling, and it's quick. It's always open when I'm in the neighborhood: lunch hour. It's also great that they use mostly compostable take out containers. If you're lucky you can score some miso or hot tea there when it's cold outside. Similar to most poke places you pick almost everything. It's like Hawaiian subway with fresh fish, rice, and seaweed. Poke square is affordable and quick. The only recommendations I have are to offer a few pre made bowls so that new customers aren't so burdened with difficult decisions about what to put in there. More protein variety would be nice but I can imagine that it's best for a small spot to keep the choices limited to control the cost. Keep up the good work! read more

The fish is fresh, I liked the toppings, and the prices aren't too high for a poke place. I feel like it's just frozen shrimp that's been thawed. Poke. I take it super seriously from all the times as a kid having it in Hawaii. Now, during lockdown it is really easy to order nothing but comfort food so when I found they were delivering, my little heart was happy! As you can see by the copious photos, I have ordered more than once from them and been VERY happy with every bowl. Personally I am good with the smaller of the two bowls. I ordered the large a couple of times but ended up eating them over two sittings. Okay, I fully admit I was skeptical of yet another poke place but poke square really surprised me! I was greeted immediately and they were so nice in while putting the poke bowl together. I went for brown rice and salmon/tuna regular bowl. Pretty standard of what I order at a poke shop. I was however pleasantly surprised of the quality of the fish (didn't get a single bite of yucky gritty fish you sometimes get at subpar poke places) and the tastiness of the toppings. I really appreciated the pickled daikon/carrot mix (yep, like the ones you get inside a banh mi) and amount of pickled ginger they don on top. This is not a place that skimp on toppings and I really appreciate that. I can tell poke square will definitely go into my regular rotation of lunch places. Poke Square is my go-to lunch spot in Ballard since I live so close! The food is consistently fresh, delicious, and I know that I can be in and out with my food in less than 10 minutes. The staff is very friendly too! Today I ordered takeout directly from Yelp and my lunch was waiting for me as soon as I arrived! I swear... it must be bad luck or something but I have tried soooo many Seattle/North Seattle poke bowl spots throughout the pandemic and all had something that made them not "the go to spot" for me (poor freshness of fish, tiny tiny portions, etc) but I think Poke Square has hit the mark! We got two bowls like an hr before closing yesterday. They had all the selections we wanted and the fish was fresh. Which the fish portions were average, the bowl was more than filling after adding some of their sides (edamame, seaweed salad, crab salad, etc). Being Hawaiian, I take my poke seriously. I've tried a couple poke shops in Seattle just to compare what there is and Poke Square has been my favorite. We ordered for the first time just tonight, my boyfriend and I both got the regular combos. I got the bowl on the left in the photo (tuna, salmon, brown rice, sriracha aoli pickled ginger, cucumber, edamame, corn, furikake and seaweed) and his is on the right (tuna, salmon, white rice, white onion, avocado, sesame seeds, edamame). We DEMOLISHED the bowls. Perfect amount of dressing, perfect rice seasoning, ingredients were fresh, the quality of the fish was SOLID. I will sum it up in one word, average. From the customer service to the food to the decor, average. This is another one of those quick build your bowl types of places. You pick your rice, salad, proteins and toppings and your done. The fish seems fresh some days but tastes old others. The sauces they have are not eye popping but not bad either. Again average. I would not say this is a must stop in place but it's also not bad to grab a bowl from here for lunch if your hungry. It does the job. The seating is very limited. This is not a place to hang with a bunch of friends. It's more the grab and go type of place. It's not beautifully designed just simple and gets the job done. I was craving poke with the hot Seattle summer weather and decided to try this place out. I ordered a small poke bowl with albacore and salmon. Both of the fish were very fresh. I tried their medium poke sauce and it had a very slight spice to it. As for toppings, I just got crab, seaweed salad, cucumbers, and all the seasonings. Overall, I don't think their poke was bad, but it just wasn't the best I've had in Seattle either. I also don't live in Ballard, so I'm not sure that I would drive to this area just for this poke place. If I did happen to be in the area though, I would definitely come back here because the customer service was great and the poke is worth getting again, when nearby. read more

I swear, it seems like a new poke shop opens up weekly in Seattle and it's getting harder to keep up with all of them. I came here on their soft opening and overall, I had a pleasant experience at Poke Square. Like many of the poke spots around the area, Poke Square assembles poke bowls to order, where they mix the sauce as you order, which isn't my favorite. I prefer my poke to be marinaded and packed with flavor. During my visit, I went with the house poke sauce in mild and it is pretty tasty. There are a variety of toppings offered at Poke Square such as crab salad, edamame, seaweed, masago and avocado (which might as well be labeled as guacamole). For me, I like to keep my toppings at a minimum when I order poke. What I do like about Poke Square is that they have a nice selection of seafood: Salmon, tuna, albacore, shrimp, spicy tuna, and yes even scallops! Overall I'll give Poke Square 3.5 stars. read more

It's across the street from Mighty-O donuts on 17th side. Small spot with a few tables and window ledge to people watch on Market St. I was a hungry man on a mission so I decided to go for the gusto and get the large bowl (3 proteins). Good thing my shorts had an elastic waistband that day so I was good to go and ready to tackle this poke bowl. My large bowl specs: -Brown Rice -Salmon, Albacore, Tuna -House Poke Sauce (medium) -Sides: I got all of them! Seaweed, Krab, Avocado, Cucumber, Onion, Ginger and Wasabi -Toppings: I got all of them! Corn, Nori, fried garlic, crispy onion, edamame, furikake, green onion, masago and sesame seeds. Glad I went with the works because the bowl was pretty good. You can tell them how heavy you want them to go on the squirt of the sauce as they make your bowl. As mentioned in other reviews, the poke is marinated to order. They do have mini serving scoops and mini tongs as they grab each item, to me it's kinda annoying that places do that but it's not a deal breaker for me. I just want them to scoop it, not measure it when scooping up a topping Whatever. The fish seemed fresh, toppings and sides were pretty tasty, no real complaints from me. May try a different sauce next time as the house sauce wasn't flavor bursting in my mouth. They have a Ponzu, a Sriracha aioli, and a Wasabi aioli....I think. They currently have a check-in discount on the Yelp app to get 15% off, so check-in if you care to do so, I am not afraid of my stalkers. The prices seem to be in line as the other poke spots all over town. I went there for the first time last week and got the Regular. It's great that you get to "build your own bowl" with what you like. For $10.95, I got a generous serving of salad and rice (you can choose white rice, brown rice, salad, or a mix), a good amount of raw tuna (you can also choose salmon, albacore or shrimp), a scoop of seaweed salad and crab salad, and then added nori, furikake, and masago on top. They had a good amount of topping choices but not too many, and I like that. My poke bowl was delicious, healthy, and fast, and service was friendly. By the time we left, there was quite a line but I could see that it was moving at a decent clip. I'm definitely coming back! read more

I ended up getting the greens with ginger dressing one time, and fell in love! My go-to is now is half greens with ginger dressing, and half brown rice. The topping choices are plentiful, and the price of the bowl is standard, but given the portion of food they pack in there I'd say it's a steal. 100% will be back for more! The more poke places that pop up around town the more each place has to live up to. The space is clean lots of natural lighting. Prime location right on corner across from Mighty-O. Thought I'd give them a try today cause if you checked in with Yelp you could get 15%!off and since it was their first week they were giving free soda fountain drinks. The fish is fresh. I'm a big believer that poke should be marinated it's a personal thing. There are a couple other places in Seattle that select to put the sauce on and toss it as you order I just don't feel like the flavor soaks into the fish enough, and it ends up making the rice mushy when all the sauce is placed on top. Like other places with the Chipotle type set up you can select from white or brown rice or salad as your base they'll even do half and half for you. You can toss in cucumber and onion with your fish when they toss it with the sauce. Extra selections include ginger, avocado, krab salad and seaweed salad. Four different sauces and lots of toppings. I appreciate they don't charge extra for avocado and masago like other places. Regular size gives you two proteins and the larger size you can have three. It's not my favorite place for poke in Seattle, but I would return to support my neighborhood business and when I get a poke craving. read more

It's a small, clean space. it has chairs and high top counter seating & a lot of people take their food to-go so theres always open seats. The only downside is that they use a lot of single use items-- to make your bowl, and to put your food in. The plastic container is compostable, though. I go here because it's fairly priced and it's close by, but it really is a hit or miss. I visit at least once a month when I get that hankering for some fish and rice! Sometimes the bowl is loaded and sometimes it's not, sometimes the rice is cooked and other times a little under done... sometimes the fish is on point and like this last time it's mushy or loaded with the 'tendony' bits. The service is friendly and I'm just glad to find a poke place that doesn't charge extra for toppings except for avocado... and really when is avocado ever free?!?! Here at Poke Square, they do a pretty good job showing the quick-serve potential of the traditional dish, and with a few tweaks and stern attention to quality, I think they will be a success in this neighborhood. For those new to poke, scroll to the bottom of this review for an introduction. Like most seattle poke bars, Poke Square offers the opportunity to assemble a bowl for yourself as you move down a line, like you would at a Chipotle or Subway. Poke Square keeps it simple but interesting, with a variety of fish proteins to choose from. I particularly like the addition of scallops here, which are delicately sweet. Almost all their sauces are spicy in some fashion- I think there's room for different flavors here. Condiments are those you might find with sushi, except for "krab" salad and avocado. Few surprises on the toppings list too, mostly ramen-style offerings like corn, nori and furikake. Detracting factors: an unnecessary $1 upcharge for avocado, given its tiny portion size. Also, the tuna looks gassed, the salmon appears farmed (though it shows good fat content), the shrimp looks a bit overcooked. Advice to the management: I get it; proteins are expensive. But the quality of your protein is what will set you apart from the crowd, and is the reason for a missing star here; be careful. Lastly, there are few sugar-free options for beverages beyond water and maybe iced tea. Coconut water would be a welcome addition. Service is friendly and fairly efficient, despite the usual growing-pains of a newly-opened business, and they keep a clean store here, which I appreciate. The restroom signs are hilarious! A welcome addition to the Ballard food scene. A few tweaks and continued innovation will keep then a favorite. Recommended! INTRO: Poke (pronounced "poe-kea") is a traditional Hawaiian variant of Japanese chirashi, the difference usually being the quality and variety of proteins and the sauces or dressings they are coated in. At its heart, poke is raw fish over rice, but it gets a bump in flavor and interest when the fish is tossed in a sauce and different condiments added, like vegetables, fish roe, seaweed, sesame seeds and others. I used the door dash delivery & I got my order very quickly. No problem. (I ordered about 6pm) This is my 3rd time trying this place, but I don't think I will order from here again. My bowl was very full with good looking food. I'm sad it looked so good but the taste didn't match its appearance I ordered the 3 choice which consisted of spicy tuna, tuna, and tako. My spicy tuna was okay. Spicy and perhaps a good way to hide the fishy taste. But when I took a bite of the tuna, it was beyond fishy/not edible. The tako was also very fishy, like maybe it was really old or it was sitting out too long or maybe both. I made a soy sauce/lemon mixture, but the fishy taste is too strong that I lost my appetite.
