Meat jun in Hawaii is different than Korean meat jun and they made it great here. If i was in the area or passing, I'd definitely stop by. We ordered the chicken katsu curry, shoyu chicken, and strawberry guava juice. They were sold out of teriyaki chicken and pork hash. All fried foods are made fresh. Expect a 15-20 minute wait. I'm born and raised in Hawaii and this was definitely the best local food I've had since moving to WA. I wouldn't have guessed it would be in the Shell gas station, and when I first arrived I thought it had closed. To my delight, it was still open, and I just had to walk into the store. I felt like I was transported back to my hometown with all their decorations and stickers. The food was absolutely amazing with great prices and portions! The meat jun was something I can never find on the mainland, until now! Too bad I like 3 hours away (that won't stop me from visiting). My hubby found this place when we were looking for something to eat on the way to lavender farms. This is probably the only food located in a gas station that I won't complain about eating. Amazing and fresh Hawaiian food. Staff is also friendly and will happily explain the menu. This place is take-out only. The best things here are: * Mochiko chicken - This is fried chicken that uses Mochiko flour for the breading, which is a glutinous rice flour. * Kalua pork - some of the best I've ever had * Katsu curry - The sauce, rice, and katsu were perfect These were okay: * Fried rice had great flavor but was a little too on the side of sticky rice for me. * Spam musubi was okay but both spam and rice were a little overcooked. The food used to be real good here but now the chicken has zero seasoning. Its so darn bland. The Mac salad is usually my favorite but now it tastes like there is no salt and pepper. Its gone down hill in the past year. Also, its not convenient at all that you have to order online only with a card, no options for cash pay. Not everyone has a card or money in the bank. Someone us only have cash. I think this is super bad customer service. Also, if you call in and ask any questions whatso ever , you get bullied by some guy thats pissed off if you even call in. Once in a blue do I write a review on this platform. My first and last one was of 6-7 something years ago and I just deleted it recently. I basically grew up in Southern Cal, surrounded by mast varieties of different cuisine almost "around the world" authentic and or hybrid I've seen and tried it. But jus right!), bed rice and decent size Mac... oh, and a "vinegary" shoyu sauce. Loco moco... Perfect for the "Day after" aka Hangover or jus because... no premade burgers here, all fresh made kine, Jus wish had more gravy... No biggie. Chix katsu... I thought mochiko chicken had some kind of sauce on it, but it was really just nuggets of fried chicken. It was good fried chicken, though. The Pork Hash Pupu was a simple dumpling, but quite good. I had hoped to try one of their cocoa puffs, but they didn't have any. I didn't think that pineapple with plum powder (as the gentleman described it) would be that exciting by comparison, but it was surprisingly delicious and not sour. This place serves amazing take out food. I always prefer to eat food at the establishment, because it doesn't get destroyed by all the things that happen during delivery. Well, I've finally found a take out place that somehow overcomes the issues related to delivery. KING5 Evening had been featuring unique Kitsap County businesses located inside gas stations on their local show. Definitely, I had bookmarked Unko's Kitchen because I enjoy Hawaiian style plate lunches. Occasionally, I have to get my fix because I miss my visits to Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island. Reminds me of early childhood living on Oahu. And you know, sometimes one needs a carb laden two or three scoops steamed rice, one scoop mac salad and a well marinated or grilled protein. Seriously IYKYK. After spending time visiting with a relative in Bremerton, I had to get something substantial to eat before catching a Kingston ferry back to Edmonds. Thank goodness for gps, I was able to locate Unko's Kitchen off the Ridgetop exit on Hwy 303 inside the Shell gas station mini mart. They have a handy website that allows you to check availability and order online, but with my first visit on 7/9/22 I wanted to order onsite. Definitely popular since there were two parties ahead of me and three after. I thought I visited from faraway Shoreline. Nah, the woman ahead of me handed a huge takeout bag was from Mill Creek! Friendly aloha spirit and treated like ohana when placing my order at the counter. I selected special of the day, Shoyu Chicken ($11). Note: there is extra charge for a sturdy plastic takeout bag and compostable utensils. The kind counter person also started a stamp card for me, buy 10 entrees, get a free one! My takeout entree was generous - easily could feed two people! Two large tender fall of the bone chicken thighs atop three scoops of steamed rice and one scoop of mac salad. I also opted for shoyu sauce to be added to the rice. Omg, the scent coming from the takeout box as I drove from Silverdale to Kingston. I was starving bordering on hangry, especially after the Sounders lost to the Timbers 0-3, I digress. I was lucky to have time to dig in while waiting in the ferry boarding area. I had to balance the takeout box carefully because it was compostable style - the sauced rice made the container a bit precarious. This was one time I wished I had some non Earth friendly, sturdy styrofoam. Didn't matter because with my compostable wooden utensils, I happily dined and managed not to wear my tasty food. I resisted the temptation of adding on and having two fisted musubis. Definitely eyes bigger than my stomach! A lot cheaper than airfare, lodging, and rental car to get such a generous, delicious plate lunch. I had the warm sunshine that late afternoon, just needed to feel some breeze, warm sand in my slippahs, and crack open a cold one to complete my island mindset. This place is bomb. I was watching an episode of evening magazine one day where they highlighted this restaurant inside a gas station. It's unique location definitely peaked my interest. I love Hawaiian food so I knew I had to go in the next time I was in the area. I ordered the sushi bake, manapua, spam musubi and pordagee musubi. I loved everything. Especially the sushi bake. And they gave a little packet of crispy seaweed to really complete the dish. They were soooooo friendly ! I really enjoyed chatting with the staff. We have stopped here twice or three times since discovering this place and everything we have ordered was yummy. We have had...shoyu pork, fry noodles, manapua, sushi back, mochiko chicken, katsu burger, pork hash aaaaaand I'm not sure what else I could be missing. There is the option to order online but their system doesn't automatically charge you for bags so be prepared when you arrive to pick up your food. I believe you can also order on the phone, as well. Their staff is very small but very friendly and accommodating as can be. I believe there is room for improvement. I can understand running out of items and maybe they are still figuring out the best items to have and how much to have, but it would be nice to have more of the menu items available through out the day. We have stopped in once in the later afternoon and another closer to closing and the amount of dish items available to order were pretty much the same. I guess because they are such a small operation and get such big orders placed it creates a challenge for them. It's not an issue to where I would stop frequenting. Highest recommendation for Unko's! Best Hawaiian food I've ever had and I've had a LOT. I was expecting it to be excellent but it definitely surpassed my expectations. Everything we ordered was beyond delicious. We ordered the Mochiko chicken, short ribs and teriyaki chicken which came with two scoops of rice and one scoop of mac salad, large portions. All of it made fresh so be patient, it's worth the wait. Can't say enough about the service! So kind and helpful. Everything on the menu sounded amazing so they helped us decide. They made sure everything was correct on the order, while keeping everything clean, taking online orders and restocking what was needed, in tight quarters, which is impressive.
