    Street elote was so good!
    Angela D.

Food came out fast and was very fresh. The ceviche was amazing and it was a generous portion as well. The elote was soooo good and my shrimp tacos were excellent. My mom and cousin really enjoyed their margaritas and their food as well. We went on a Tuesday night so it was very crowded because it was Taco Tuesday but we got seated pretty fast. They do have a cart that comes to you table so you can order tableside guac but that just seems super cheesy to me. I would have given the place a 5-star rating if the bathrooms were cleaner and if the dining room looked a little more kept, but the food and service was good. Definitely will come again!

We were staying in Nags Head, NC when a coupon book at our hotel caught my 11-year-old's eye - Plaza Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills looked promising. Google showed a solid 4.4 stars and it was just an 8-minute drive, so we decided to give it a try. The overall experience was really good. The presentation of food was on point, the drinks were colorful and fun (check out the layered frozen drink we tried!), and the service was attentive and friendly. But here's why I had to take away one star: the chicken fajitas were not served sizzling. They came in a regular plate instead of a hot cast iron griddle, so while the flavor was definitely there, the chicken became chewy as it cooled off mid-meal. That sizzling effect isn't just flair - it helps maintain the texture and temperature. That said, we'd definitely consider coming back if we're in the area again. The ambiance was comfortable, and the overall quality of the food made this a memorable dinner stop during our OBX visit.

Party of 5 on a Friday night. We were seated quickly and served with ice water and warm tortilla chips with salsa right away. We had Ice cold draft beers and my son said it was the best margarita he's ever had! Food was hot and fresh. Great choice for Mexican on the Outer Banks.

Good. Generous portions. The shrimp cheese dip was great. The salsa had a little kick. The Birria tacos were ok (a little greasy, but not bad)

Service was good, food was good but very spicy (which was not disclosed), over all good food. Fair price.

The chips and salsa they gave as soon as we sat were very good. We ordered extra salsa :) The margarita I had was very good big enough for two people. The food was amazing so full of flavor and cooked beautifully. I had chicken fajitas Gould easily feed 3people! The fresh guacamole was perfect so yummy. My hubby had 2 chimichangas with rice and beans also exceptional. We were so full we basically rolled out of there! Portion sizes are huge and the rices are reasonable. You can't go out for under $100 anymore. I was shocked and how small the bill was. Of course we tip very well. This is going to be a family go to once we move there full time!!! Do yourself a favor and check k it out.

I guess the Rockfish tacos were a daily special, so I ordered the "World Famous" Mahi tacos while Ms T ordered a crabcake sandwich. I think we were both a little disappointed. Her sandwich was definitely for bun lovers. She tore off enough bread for another sandwich and still had plenty. Restaurants are often guilty of conflating a huge bun with good sandwich. She was not particularly impressed with the crab cake, saying it was overloaded with thyme. I ordered my Mahi "blackened" and it really was not. The seasonings were good although also heavy with thyme. The flour tortillas were of poor quality, very thin and leathery and not provided hot. Hence the tacos were room temperature when eaten. I liked the finely shredded cheese that was not served refrigerator cold. The white sauce they serve is just wrong for these tacos. It is too sweet, too tart, making it harsh. Instead, I used the sauce that came with her crab cake and that was much better. Finally the mahi was very dry. I guess that is kind of the way that mahi is, but this really needed plenty of sauce. Kudos to them for serving good jasmine rice. This was not as good as we remembered. It is OK, not great and could be improved with just a few changes. We should have tried the burgers.

We showed up around 3:00 on a rainy Thursday and were seated immediately, which was much appreciated. We did end up in what was probably the least comfortable booth in the restaurant. I'm sure you guys know the one... It was a tight squeeze for my husband, my daughter, and me, but I'd still take that over waiting in the rain. My husband's crab legs were exactly what he was hoping for, and my crab cake sandwich was delicious. The surprise star of the meal, though, was my daughter's grilled cheese. We somehow ended up on an unofficial "grilled cheese tour" of the Outer Banks, and Tortugas' Lie set the bar at about a 15/10. Every grilled cheese we had after that was chasing first place. The only real tragedy of the visit? My husband accidentally left the bottle of their hot sauce at our Airbnb. Now I'm weighing the cost of ordering another bottle online against the cost of replacing my husband. Jury's still out. If you've never been, put it on your OBX list. It's one of those places we make a point to visit every trip.
