Recently saw that they had turned the old Applebee's into a Plaza Azteca and thought to give it a try. Hostess was very nice, but failed to consider based on the makeup of our party what type of a table would be best for us. Our party consisted of two adults, an 8 year old, and a 5 year old. The hostess decided that the best table for us was a high top in the bar area. Um, no, we immediately asked to be sat in one of the many open booths, and without a fuss our request was handled. Our server was right on point after we sat down and took our drink orders. We ordered food and sadly my enchilada plate was only swarm, not hot as I would have expected. Food was good but not the temp I wanted. Other members in my party were happy with their food. Will try again, but at this point I prefer On The Border. read more

My family LOVES PLAZA AZTECA! Best Mexican food around! Everything is fresh and they try to seat you ASAP! They have a large menu and we always get the shrimp queso dip for an appetizer! They make fresh guacamole right in front of you to your liking! All of the employees are very sweet and take good care of you! The inside is clean and the candle lighting is beautiful! We went to Exton Plaza Azteca for the first time tonight because the reviews were so good. We're not Mexican food devotees but we were sold on Azteca - the food, rice and re fried beans, enchiladas and sauces were definitely homemade, so tasty and special. Try the Enchilada Bajio at $9.99. It was unbelievably tasty. For dessert we had cornbread and ice cream. The cornbread was so soft , almost melting in your mouth. Our waitress Kathryn was a delight. The manager came over to see how we liked our food and he was so nice and humble. A real \Mexican atmosphere. The coffee was weak but only $1.50. We can't wait to go back. I give it a 10! read more

Avoid. My wife and I went for dinner on a weeknight. I ordered enchiladas and she ordered a combo meal. The dishes came out very fast. We were served in less than five minutes from order to table. Clearly nothing is being made to order, it's all fast food Mexican, pre cooked and assembled. The food itself is nothing special, run of the mill and boring. Two or Three stars. However, halfway through my meal I found something in the enchiladas. I'm not sure what it was, at best they were rubbery chicken fat or over cooked rock shrimp (which should NOT have been in chicken enchiladas). They were small rubbery, inedible pieces of junk and there were several pieces of it. It was taken off the bill but no apologies, no manager to speak to, just terrible. Never going back. Avoid. My husband and our friends and I had dinner there this evening. It was shaky from the start. The server had a hard time with our drink order and there was something off about the salsa. That something turned out to be oregano. Who puts oregano in salsa?! Our chips were also clearly the bottom of the bag, as they were all tiny and broken up. My husband had a steak, which he said was mostly fat. My friend and I both ordered the seafood chimichangas and for $13, we were served imitation crab meat. They were also comically small. My friend's husband had a taco salad, which turned out to be the culinary masterpiece of dinner. On top of that, we had to ask for silverware before we could eat anything. This place needs a new manager! The food is tasty, the employees are nasty. We visited this restaurant several times because we liked the food, but the last time we were there was just horrible: Our food was tossed at us like we were dogs; the waitress spent most of her time in the bathroom texting on her cellphone; there were no paper towels in the bathroom so I informed the staff about it although the waitress already knew about it since she spent most of her time there. 15 minutes after telling them about the towels, I went back to the bathroom and there were no towels! Nasty! It made me wonder if those employees wash their hands at all!! It's a shame because they do have delicious food, but just a thought of those people touching my food with dirty hands makes me feel sick to my stomach, so we won't be going to Plaza Azteca in Exton any time soon. Since this place opened (in the corporate center where I work), my friends and I have been close to weekly fixtures. The service here is fast and friendly, even when they are packed. The chips are tasty and the salsa is fresh and delicious. (And the table-side guacamole = the best I've had in the area.) I especially love that they have a vegetarian section of their menu that features more than just your typical cheese enchiladas or veggie fajitas. Ate lunch at Plaza Azteca for the first and last time the other day. Although the atmosphere was pleasant, it's not a place to go and catch up with old friends. The wait staff rushes you quite a bit. When I mentioned my friend and I were catching up after a long time apart, the staff was nice enough but I definately got the impression they wanted us to catch up someplace else. I called ahead to find out if the restaurant was BYOB and the person who answered the phone didn't understand what I was asking, even when I asked "Do you serve alcohol?" She put me on hold and after a wait, someone got on the phone and was very abrupt about the fact that they have a liquor license. Some restaurants don't and I just was asking a simple question. The kitchen staff got my order wrong which caused my friend's meal to get cold because they didn't take it back to keep it warm. I agree with the last post that stated the food is one step up from Taco Bell and I thought it was marginal at best. I think the food prices are moderate when you consider the small portions served but it was a lunch menu, however the drink prices are outrageous. They charge $15.00 for a pitcher of Coors Light! That is truly ridiculous for what amounts to a fast food restaurant meal. Suffice it to say, I will NOT be eatting at Plaza Azteca again! It will be interesting to see how long they last in the Exton location. read more

My wife and I have dined at the Exton restaurant several times and were impressed with the decor, service and food. So, for our family Christmas gathering we decided to do Mexican food. We sat down with the Leo, the manager, and with his advice planned and ordered the entire meal. The day of our party, we set up the food and WOW! The tacos, burritos, empanadas (shredded beef and chicken), re fried beans, rice with all the toppings, lettuce, cheese, chips, dips and other condiments were both delicious and plentiful. I have been wanting to try this place out but I heard a few varying reviews and put off going. Last night I had a taste for Mexican food and finally gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised, the drinks were well done and the food was very good. The only thing that I didn't like that much was the cheese sauce they put on the food instead of fresh shredded Mexican cheeses. I will request the sauce on the side the next time. I'd been a regular at LaaTolteca in West Chester and, since its closing, have been looking for a good mexican restaurant. This is definitely not it. The food is poor, the service mediocre. Upon being seated we were served salsa and chips - stale chips and about a quarter of a cup of salsa. The waitress came and took our drink order - a Dos Equis and a house red wine. About 5 minutes later she returned to say they were out of Dos Equis.! Now that is their flagship beer and it was early on a Wednesday night so not sure how that could happen. The wine was about 3 oz in a small glass - and was white. which was replaced with a red of the same size, You definitely don't get a generous pour for the $6 cost. My wife ordered a salad described as lettuce, tomatoes , avacados, onions, cucumbers and cheese. It arrived with lettuce and cheese - no tomatoes, no cukes, no avacados, no onions. When my wife complained, the waitress returned with a few slices of avacados and nothing else. At that point she just sent the dish back and cancelled the order. I ordered a combo of chili relleno, burrito,and taco. The taco was soggy from the watery meat filling as was the burrito. The chili was filled with an unmelted chuck of cheese. Altogether it was an unpleasant meal. I can't believe that this restaurant will be around a year from now. read more

This Plaza Azteca used to be THE BEST place! We have been regular patrons, aside from the winter weather keeping us away. Tonight, we stopped by and ordered our usuals. One of our favorites "Burrito San Jose", was incredibly disappointing. It went from the favorite burrito, to small, mushy, and lacking flavor. We also got the "Baja Fish Tacos". They had one tiny little strip of fish per taco - small enough that I had three tacos, beans, rice, chips, a drink, and I'm still hungry. And I don't normally eat that much. We are left wondering if they changed chefs or something happened. We won't be back any time soon. :-( read more

Just as what other reviews said, food was bland and lacked spices. The service was extremely slow. We waited forever to get food served and then another half an hour to get the check. Such a waste of time. You will get better food and services just by going to chipolte. read more

third time was not a charm I had gone here two times for lunch and it was excellent. First time had the fish tacos and second time the #1 lunch special which is the chicken and spinach enchilada and a chile rellano- both very good! I was excited to go at night to try the margaritas. They were good but I would have preferred them served in a margarita glass. Our waitress was so very nice and accommodating but didn't know the menu all that well. We ordered the homemade (tableside) guacamole- - I like spice, we asked for medium which consisted of 2 tablespoons jalapenos for one Avocado-- It was inedible due to the spice. The food came out way too fast- 10 mins. I ordered the beef tacos which were awful. I asked the waitress to please bring me the fish tacos instead, and she was kind enough to remove the beef tacos from the bill. There really wasn't anything wrong with them, just very bland and uninteresting. the fish tacos (Baja) were much better! The chicken and spinach enchiladas (strangely different from my recent lunch order) were also very good, especially with the added sauce. read more
