Dropped off clothes to be appraised and sold. It took over 2 1/2 hours to get a price quote on what they would buy and they wouldn't take anything that I brought in.The items that I tried to so were all extremely high end, premium clothing that our brands listed on their site. They gave me a generic answer that the clothing or either to warn or out of style. I saw things on their racks that were of a very lesser qualitythat I had brought in. On another note the store smellsabsolutely horrid. I'm surprised the employees can't even stomach it. It's like living in a radioactive Lysol can and hot. This location really makes you think that there are certain biases about who is selling the clothes and what they will take based on customer. There were many items that would be considered no-name brands, so it poses the question, "are they using this business as a cover-up, for money laundering... Or something along those lines?". Very unsatisfied with the selling gently used or new clothing to this store. I walked in with a large bag of clothing, most with tags, some without but never worn and of course a beautiful MK trench coat. While I anxiously waited and browsed through the other racks of clothing, I noticed my bag of clothes were ruffled through very quickly. Soon enough came a text messg that my clothes were ready to be evaluated by a store associate. I was most highly disappointed by what the receipt in front of me stated. A total of $23 for a necklace, a VS makeup bag (brand new) and the MK coat. My jaw dropped and I immediately said I would never sell that coat for $20! The other two items I received $3.00 for. I've been shopping here quite some time and it's a great place to find amazing selections and styles of clothing at amazing prices so I was beyond disappointed when I visited this location Sunday October 8th and had a terrible experience with the store manager Emily. I asked her a question about locating blouses and she didn't make any eye contact with me, didn't respond when I asked her again she wouldn't look at me and rudely asked me what sizes...that was my first interaction with her. As the store was closing she approached me and asked me to head to the register in the most rudest form possible. I then told her she was speaking to me rudely and it was not necessary ...An employee in the store over heard me and whispered to me that she is also mean to him/her and that she is just alright awful, he looked so upset. As I checked out the girl at the register was just awful too! As a Latina, this store is being used heavily by many non English speaking Hispanics and on that particular Sunday there were a lot of hispanics that didn't speak English because I had conversations with a few people there in regards to our children. It pains me greatly to think how she would treat them being that they cant speak up in English for themselves. I will be emailing the corporate office to send in a complaint. staff is HORRIBLE, and when i say horrible, i mean horrible. With being there only for 1 hour, the same girl (short, brunette, on smaller side, tan skin) was beyond rude to me and my friend THREE TIMES. First when my friend left items in the dressing room (because no one is there to help you or explain what to do), the worker called her out across the store saying "DO YOU WANT THESE? " obviously she did not, my friend replied no, and then proceeded to scream "NEXT TIME DONT LEAVE THEM THERE PUT THEM ON THE RACK" we were so shocked and taken aback we were speechless. Then, as were online checking out, (time is 8:40 they close at 9) a couple walks in, the same girl screams "WE CLOSE IN 20 MINUTES" the couple was again speechless as we were. If I could give this place a negative amount of stars I would. I brought two bags of clothes which were very expensive and in season. The employee (Jonathan) who was helping me was extremely rude and even laughed in my face. When I responded asking a few questions, he told me I'd have to wait 2 hours. I'm not from this area but returned an hour later where they told me that they did not accept a single item. My bag was barely looked through. DO NOT GO HERE! The store has good clothes for cheap prices! Very organized and clean. I was VERY disappointed with the employees, though. I was looking to sell the store clothing, some brand new with the tags still on them, and some old but now worn down. They accepted only 7 out of my 30 items (all my items were name brand). I was shocked when they didn't offer to buy the shorts that I had bought at this store 2 weeks prior to my visit today. The website says they take scarves, but when I got there the rude employee behind the counter said in a snooty tone "Oh scarves? nah uh we don't take those..." I was very disappointed with my trip to this store today. I went back with the same bag and added in a few more pieces and they took about 5-6 items. I was so surprised that they do accept jewelry! You just have to make sure it has the original packaging. Came in with roughly 45 items....mainly summer items (it's now June)since that is what the store is looking for. Sun dresses, shorts, tanks, etc. The one looking at my clothing didn't even bother unfolding majority of the items from my bag to see what they were. In the end they took 9 items totaling $19. Wasn't too happy about the amount but I took it since it's better than nothing. I then questioned why majority of my items weren't chosen since they were, style wise, identical to the items they took from me. Their answer for the American Eagle shorts was "the clothes are dated on the clothing. After a year, we cannot accept it". Which that is a bunch of Bull since the shorts they took from me are well over 3 years old. I then questioned her about the items she didn't even bother unfolding. Her answer was the patterns. But I found it hysterical that one dress she passed up was one they have for sale in the store. Then, my son needed to use the bathroom, I asked if there was a bathroom and they said it was for employees only! Eventually, my 9 year old son could not hold it! I went to this place the other day. Although none of my clothes were accepted by them I will write a review anyway. Pros: Nice staff those are informative. OK selection of clothes, better if you are a lady. Good prices on high$$ items. Cons. This place is really only good for people who wear Abercrombie, American eagle, Hollister, Aero, and other label brands like that. Basically if you are a guy (which I am) don't count on them buying anything past your college years. They don't take clothes that are not perfectly ironed which I understand but what I don't understand is why I found clothes on the racks that were quite wrinkled. As I said earlier none of my clothes were accepted to be taken in. There were a handful of items they would want to purchase but were no accepted because of wrinkles and they told me to come back. I asked for a figure on what they would pay and the woman who helped seemed like she didn't want to do her job and said oh I would need to look these items up. Simply put I was wondering if it would be worth it to come back and it seems that they didn't even want to tell me what my items are worth. Lastly if you are bringing in pants don't go with alterations. They DO NOT accept them. Summary: This place is best geared for a woman even though they accept men's clothes as well majority of the store is women's merch. I wish I can give this store no stars but 1 is the lowest yelp allows which says a lot since I never feel angry enough to write a review. Plato's is not what I expected from the website. For a few months now I had about 4 bags of clothes I planned on donating but after hearing about Plato's Closet recently I went on their website and condensed to only the brands THEY ask for..ended up only having 1 big bag by the end. I was really excited to get some money for these name brand clothes (even if it was just a few bucks) instead of just donating them and not knowing where they actually get donated to (spoiler: bad mistake). I came in on a Tuesday morning right after they opened expecting it wouldn't be busy and it wasn't, I signed in on the iPad and selected the "text me when it's done" option which said about 20min to wait. I handed them my bag & went grocery shopping down the street..30min later i'm realizing I never got a text so I checked out at the store, drove back and walked in with my receipt and said " hi I never got a text" The lady behind the register said "Really? Are you sure you put in the right phone number" I replied yes..she replied "I'm sorry about that" and then got my bag back and it had ALL of the clothes still in there She said "So you have a lot of summer clothes and unfortunately we aren't taking those now, you can come back at the end of March?" which I replied Okay what about all of my jeans and winter clothes..She replied "Yeah we don't need them right now".....it's January but okay sure and said thanks anyway and walked out. What a HUGE waste of time and I bet i'm not the only one who got that response that day. Honestly so upsetting and a huge let down! Their website says they buy any season, men or womens, and lists certain brands they want so I figured I could get something out of it even if they only took a few items but now i'm thankful they actually didn't take anything! They clearly are way too picky and it shows on their racks too. None of the clothes for sale on the racks I would even purchase myself. So I went all the way here with new clothes.. cute dresses etc. There was a female who seemed nice.. and a gay guy who was sorting out the clothes and picking which ones to accept. As I was waiting, I was watching him look through peoples clothing. He would pock up each piece and talk to himself. Every other word was "yuck.. eww.. gross". He didn't seem to be professional at all. The worst thing is, he was pretty badly dressed himself. They only wanted 2 items for practically a dollar each. I just left. When I got home I realized that thr bag I had my clothes in was ripped and they had put tape on it to try and cover it up. Wow! If I didnt live so far I would go and get in their faces.. Be aware...on their website, it says that they will go through your clothes "while you wait," however I was told that they needed at least 3 hours to go through the clothes I had dropped off (I dropped off about 10 items), and I must come back by 9 PM the same day to pick up any money I may receive for the clothes. Every time I come here I have a very unpleasant experience with the manager I guess he is, pretty sure his name is Jonathan. He is extremely rude, snotty & does not care about the customer. He has also taken items for himself first many times. On more then one occasion I've inquired about an item on the shelf and he said "oh I'm buying that it's not for sale" and quickly grabbed it. I am a very loyal customer here and often spend a lot of money so I get coupons sent to my phone & I was a day late on one and he wouldn't let me use it meanwhile everyone else in the store has done it for me. If I could give this place zero stars I would. The clothing here is not good quality, which is why it's so cheap. The brands you can find here are generally from places like Marshall's, forever 21 and Old Navy. Occasionally maybe you'll find something from Zara or Macy's but it's rare and they're never very nice pieces of clothing. Now look, I understand that it's a consignment store and it's not going to be brand new store bought quality. But the people that work here are so incredibly rude that it does not make going here for the prices worth it. I once came to this store and had already dealt with the people that worked there, knowing that they weren't really the friendliest, however I was trying to look past that. I was in the dressing room trying on a few pieces of clothing. (It is also important to note any privacy the dressing rooms have are completely violated by the fact that there are security cameras on the ceiling that appear to be able to completely see into them.) while I was trying on clothing a girl that worked there did not knock on the door but instead used her key to open the door to give the room to another customer. When she saw me she said nothing and closed the door. No apology then and not when she saw me when I came out of the room. In fact she seemed annoyed by the encounter. Despite all this I decided I would still be purchasing an item of clothing that I had found. I went to the cashier and decided I would just suggest that perhaps they should tell their employees to double check before opening the dressing rooms. The woman said she wasn't the manager and said couldn't help me. So I asked for the manager and she pointed to the man beside her who was completely ignoring the interaction. So I suggested it to him to which he told me he couldn't do anything. He offered no apology not even that he would take care of the situation. Needless to say I did not buy anything that day and will never buy anything from there again. I've never been to Plato's Closet before and heard great things about the company. So I said why not go and sell some clothers that I needed to get rid of. On October 8th 2018, I went to the store between 11:00 and12:ish, and was greeted by a young lady, I couldnt get her name becasue i never asked nor did she state either but she directed me towards a touch screen machine to fill out information because i've never been there before. I had trouble on the last part to fill out and a young man, also didnt get name, had helped with the last few questions. I was definitly confused on how this company works, so when the young man helped me out he stated in a question do want us to text you? (talked to me like I was clueless) and continued by saying, that way we are able to contact you when its ready ok? I responded with, can I wait in my car? He said it was fine and only took 5 min for me to wait.... when I went back inside I saw a young lady trying to sell her clothes to the young man I was talking to not too long ago.... I stood their waiting for a good 5 mins while the same co worker, young lady who greeted me when I came in the first time, stared at me the whole time. I felt uncomfortable like im doing something wrong. I saw a costumer come up to the coworker and the coworker directed the costumer to another coworker and she then stared right back at me and asked me can I help you. PROS They have very affortable clothing, name brands as well such as Vinyard Vines, Nike, Polo, Forever21, Abercrombie, American Eagle, Adidas, Nine West, Zaras, GAP, Banana republic, and many more! They are cute and at a good discount! I saw a Vinyard Vines sweater for only $16.00 now THATS A STEAL! Orginal pricing would be much worse. Now THE CONS I came in here with a BUNCH of clothes and they didn't take half of it! I had to wait until my turn which took 15-35mins(depending on the day) and they took only 5 items out of 30. Upon opening the front door (and I was carrying a large Tupperware bucket of clothing and a huge tote bag) I was lazily told "oh we only buy for teens". Not even a hello. Placed my stuff to be looked at by the incredibly rude and non responsive staff (really of three people no one could greet their customer) and was told to shop while they went through my items. Well I watched him go through one bucket, the one I knew had things they probably weren't interested in, and then I watched him just stand there. When I went up to the counter and called him out on not even opening the tote bag (which was filed with items exactly like the things in their store) he told me he didn't need to bc the graphic on the top folded hoodie was no longer in fashion. Uhm ok......now I don't mind a store not buying any of my clothes, but you actually have to look at them.... Side note, most things for sale were ripped or really dirty, some even had bleach stains. I have shopped at many second hand stores and I find this one to be by far the worst. Not only were the employees unhelpful, they were just rude. I had a large selection of clothing that I attempted to sell and they only selected a few with no justification or reasoning; basically I ended up buying more then I made. I think this store has a good idea of what they are trying to do but my problem is I brought in about 12 Victoria's Secret/Hollister sweatshirts I no longer wanted from last season and they took about 3 of them because it wasn't "trendy". Now I think the clothes itself in there were not "trendy" nor half of them were not "designer". I think the employees did not have any knowledge about what is "trendy" and what is not. They took 8 of my items for about $27 which I understand they sell the items for a third of what they are sold for in the actual store but the items I brought in were $50-$70 each when I bought them and I don't think getting $4 for a Victoria's Secret backpack I bought for $65 last spring is really acceptable.
