I've been meaning to write a review for two weeks now. I did mY winter cleaning in my closet about a month ago and whenever i do so i specifically make a special bag for Plato's considering they always take majority of my clothes. I dropped off a huge bag two weeks ago, i had plenty of "in style" clothing. They took 3 items out of about 60. I know for a fact they didn't go through my entire bag because they didn't take a pair of Lulu lemon leggings, adidas leggings worn once, a brand new north face jacket.....etc. i used to make a lot of money when i went in there and i thanked the blonde girl and she said "you always have great stuff". I worked retail for many years and my clothing is always top notch and in style. What really bothers me is that they didn't take their job serious and only went through the top half of my clothes. I miss tHe blonde girl that used to work there (she might still be there) and they should definitely hire better people who arent lazy. They missed some great pieces!!! read more

If there was an option to give no stars I would. I carefully packed my bag the night before arranging jewelry neatly, folded everything to bring there to sell. I got my bag back an absolute mess everything was literally just thrown back in. The bag of jewlery was dumped out all over my bag. I went home to re sort through fold and untangle jewlery and pair the earrings back together and I realized two earrings from two pairs were missing. They lottttt my items. I wrote the manager. Kind of a waste of time for me. They announced they needed winter clothes and that's mostly what I had. All but 1 shirt of mine were in good shape, not faded, and winter attire. They passed on mostly all of it. Only got 3.00 for a pair of excellent Vlado sneakers that I paid a good price for. I only wore them like 3 times. I couldn't really pull them off, and I figured I'd get at least 10 dollars for them. I read the website before going to make sure I brought the type of clothing they look for and that's what I brought. I honestly think they didn't even go through all of my stuff because the girl said what didn't buy was faded. I can assure you they weren't. So, in all of you are looking to waste your time then by all means go here. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. This store sucks. They wanted a brand new coach bag and wanted to give me 7$! They don't cater to anything came in with bags and they only wanted two things. Meanwhile everything was new VS. Never going there again. read more

Just got home from this place only to realized that the bin I brought all my stuff in looks like the clothes inside it were untouched....things still folded the way I left them and the stuff on the bottom is still sitting there. I got 8 dollars for 3 things out of a huge bin which is fine I guess. I was expecting more but upon arrival found out that they don't take dressy clothing and dresses which is a lot of what I had. However, the woman clearly did not go through the entire bin which is disheartening. Also, I had an outerwear jacket which a sign said they were in need of when you first walk in that they didn't buy although it was in mint condition. Overall my experience was not satisfactory so I won't be back, especially with this place being about 40 minutes from where I live. Definitely will be looking for a different thrift store to sell my items at on Long Island...looking for suggestions if anyone has any! read more

This experience was overall terrible. After graduating college I began changing my wardrobe and decided to donate all most of my dresses and skirts. I gathered 4 boxes of clothing. Mostly comprised of forever 21, hm, urban outfitters and free people. Most of the clothing was under two years old. Most were size small or medium. They literally took nothing and insulted me and my clothing. This place is not worth the trip. The staff is rude and the store is dirty. read more

What a ripoff! After carefully considering if it was worth my time to try to sell things to them, I finally got around to bringing a bag of assorted clothes: dresses, shorts, jeans, shirts, and a pair of shoes. The only reason I gave them 2 stars over 1 is because the girl who took the clothes to look over was super helpful in explaining the process. I left and came back since they estimated 30 mins to look through. When I come back, I'm quoted 4 items for $12, so great, I'll take it. Leave with my bag, and when I get home, decide to see what they took. WELL, they took a pair of pants, 2 dresses, 2 shirts, and the shoes, for a total of SIX items. So now why was my offer for 4??? My recommendation, do yourself a favor and stay close while they look over your stuff, maybe then they wont take your stuff for free, or if you're super sure of what you brought, check before you leave read more

Thought this place was great; very clean, organized; you didn't feel like you were shopping at a "thrift shop". Good selection of tops, jeans, shoes, pocketbooks, etc. Good prices. read more

I went to Plato's Closet today with a guy friend. I had brought three FULL bags of clothing, and he had brought one. All items were name brands (Abercrombie, American Eagle, Polo, etc.), and some even still had tags still on them. We dropped them off and came back about 45 minutes later. At that point we were each told that NONE of our items were accepted, and the reasons cited were 'too dressy', or 'general wear and tear'. Aside from one dress, none of our items were dressy, and some had never even been worn. I was especially shocked to hear this given the items that I had seen in the store - many seemed cheap looking and out of style. I would have thought they would have jumped at the clothing we brought it. Needless to say, I will not be back to either sell or purchase clothing. read more

If I could rate zero stars I would I want to start off as I walked in I didn't even get greeted as I carried my large bag of clothes. I'm not one to rate poorly or at all rather but I couldn't help but to do so for Plato closet of commack. The Nasty looks on all the employees disgusted me.especially when it was time for the employee to finally greet me specifically brown hair with a faded blonde ombrè. I continued to be polite after all they didn't do for me. She nastily asked me for my ID and I replied it was in my car and I'd be right back she kept saying OK as if it was a question. When it was time for her to go through all of my gently used clothes she put most of them back inside the bag because she said they were not in season which I totally understand but then she came across a few tops and told me there were stains on them and she pointed them out and there was nothing there. I wish I continued on and asked for another employee to go through my clothes but I didn't bother because it was just a waste of time & I was just getting overheated. Also to bring up another employee complaint about the vulgar music being played in the store.when I received my $40 for an extent amount of clothes I looked around and proceeded to go around the store and found numerous items that were dirty used and had holes in them as I walked out and excepted the amount to pay me a woman came up to me and asked me what my shoes were in my hand. I showed her and she Wanted to try them on. The redheaded employee nastily said if you're going to do that go outside and do it. I told her I wasn't selling anything so how could it have been a big deal & that woman just wanted to see the shoe. I told her if I was going to make a sale I will bring it outside. the woman who had helped me earlier with the brown ombre hair gave me another wacky OK as I walked out the door telling her she was rude. She has one of those nasty teenage attitude but doesn't look like a teenager who should be much more mature and respectful at her workplace.I love Plato's closet and the concept of it and I used to go there all the time but after the incident happened at least twice I refuse to go back and not stick my foot in that store to shop or sell my items anymore. I feel bad for the miserable people who work there.and last but not least to mention the fact that the employee turned around as if I could tell she was taking about me to the other employee!!! read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. i wish i could give this place less then a star theyre so picky for a thrift store and clothes they sell are not that nice and way over priced for being used worn old clothes. looking for other places that will take used clothes because this place was horrible. read more

This place is THE WORST. When I was living in Baton Rouge I would take my clothes to platos closet all the time and the staff was so nice and welcoming. The staff at the Commack location gives you an attitude from the minute you walk in the door. The blonde girl looked at me like I was the shit under her shoe. She went through all my clothes then went on break. Didn't even have the decency to tell me why they weren't taking my items. The place smells too. I tried to give them a second chance but after today I'M DONE. They didn't even take any of my items even though what I brought was listed on my ticket as 'items this location needs.' Decent store but had to give one star because of the awfully horrible staff that work here. Bought in some clothes to donate and I don't know why this store is considered vintage when they wont accept anything older then 6 months. Upon walking into the store, I was treated like I wasn't good enough to be spoken to. I approached a girl with dark hair and dark lipstick who seemed very uninterested to help me. I bought a huge bag of clothes and it took the girl 5 minutes to sort through the clothes. She pretty much had an attitude the entire time, acted as if she was superior to me, and didn't even replace the bag that she discarded of mine. My oldest sister and I went to this place and thought it would be a good idea to get name brand clothes for less . Needless to say, they did have a couple of things i really liked. BUT... the reason why i give this place 2 stars is because of my overall shopping experience. I was being followed by an employee. I go there with two bags full of stuff. the two 15 year old girls tell me it wil be ready in 30 minutes and to not bring my clothes in bags next time they need to be perfectly folded.....okay.. I come back 30 minutes later like the girls told me and I say my name. I see my bags behind the counter and the two girls are frantically looking for my items. I said there right there in the two bags.. both girls whisper to each other while i am standing 4 feet away and one comes back to me and tells me none of my items are of value. They explained to me that my stuff was out of style... okay... i drive away pretty annoyed. When i get home I went back to look in my bags. All of my items were untouched and in the exact same position that I had them in originally. They never even looked through my stuff!!! I called to complain and the girl tried to promise me she did look through them... i went back again the following day, complained, and they took 5 out of my 200 items. PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME coming here this place is horrible. I drop 20 miles to go there and sell my cloths and maybe find cute tops to purchase. While they were taking a look at my items i went to look on the rack n wanted to try on a couple shirts and i kindly ask a staff member to open the fitting room she refuse, i had to BEG 3 times, after waiting for 25 mins they told me they couldn't take any of my items were they were worn out, or out of style, meanwhile my cloths were a lot better than the ones they had on the rack and they were also the name brands listed on their website that they are looking for also there were other 3 ladies selling items during the same time, they took the other lady's items maybe bc they were white i feel discriminated against for being of color descent. first of all if I was able to give 0 stars I would love to that. so i heard them often advertised on Pandora radio and thought it was a great way i can get rid of my clothes i don't wear anymore. my mom and i went in with a big bin and 3 big bags of clothes. i bring it all in and Jonathan tells me it will be a few minutes so i walk around the store and i see some nice things but now i go to the counter to see how much i will get for all my clothes and shoes and they tell me $0 because they only want name brand stuff like Hollister Abercrombie aeropostale etc. i know i had brands like in my stuff but they refused it all. so i walked out very annoyed and frustrated and i didn't buy anything from there. i will never go back ever again! they officially lost my business. my first and last time i will ever go! read more

Coming to Platos closet is good to get some extra cash. They definitely take different things then I expected. Before you come make sure your clothes are in style and perfect condition. One con was having to wait 2 hours for them to look through the bag, especially if you're not from the area. Sometimes they put up a sign saying they will not take anymore clothes when people sometimes drive over 40 minutes to get there. Depending on the day, some staff members are nasty but some are super friendly. I had brought a full garbage bag with name brands (Abercrombie, Victoria Secret, Tory Burch) and they didn't take much.. They were more into Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe items. I also brought a brand new *with tags* Michael Kors bag and they only were only offering $25 for it. I received $57 for 16 items. The store is nicely organized and makes looking for clothing easy. I highly recommend the owner should put a donation box in the parking lot because it's annoying having to lug the heavy bags out and go somewhere else. read more

i am a big customer at platos closet in commack but it is now completely over! i will never ever ever go back in there! the staff is disgusting! such rude people! i had to use the bathroom and it was a legit emergency! they refused to let me gonto the bathroom! i looked at the both of them and said please its a serious emergency i have to go to the bathroom and they said go across the street! they lost a customer over something so stupid! what if it were a little child that is about to pee in their pants you are going to say go next door? give me a break! i will be telling all of my friends and family how terrible the workers are there and how bad my experience was there when i had an emergency! see you later platos you are no longer going to have me and many others as a customer!!!!!!! read more

I'll start off by saying the store itself smells like tacky perfume followed by terrible loud music. I would suggest they wash the items and clothes themselves before putting it on the shelves, instead of expecting the seller to have washed it prior - moving on to the items they wanted of mine, VERY good condition women's vans (retail price of about $50) only worn once, they asked for $6.50 which is ridiculous considering the shoes on most of their shelves were in poor condition. Secondly an American eagle top (retail price $35) they wanted it for $2.50, the shirt was never worn with tags attached. And the same thing followed for the rest of my items. This being my first visit I brought them items in very good condition expecting to walk away with a decent amount of money for what most would agree as "trendy" teenage clothing in excellent condition. This was not the case. Overall, if you're looking to get ripped off and browse through mediocre clothing, this is your destination. read more
