Plato's Closet is very selective on what they select to "buy" from you if you are attempting to sell your clothes. Definitely recommend looking at their instagram or Facebook page on what they are looking for in that current season. Example- they won't take dresses in the winter. You can only bring clothes in bins, reusable bags or laundry baskets. Do not bring it in garbage bags they will not accept it. You can drop off your clothes and show your driver's license and they will text you when they are done "buying." When you return, you can see what they chose to by and how much they would pay. At that point you can accept or deny it. They do give you a coupon to promote shopping at same day which is appreciated. I do understand as they need to make some profit on the items however I wish I was given more. If you are in the area, you can give it a try but I wouldn't make an extra trip here. It is a cool place if you're into thrift stores. My oldest daughter used to shop there and get 7 jeans for cheap. It is a little different now like a used marshals but you can still get nice things for cheap. You just have to want to search and look around. They had used Jordan's and yezzy for cheap in good condition. The ladies in there are all nice and helpful as well so that makes it good. This place really does not do customer service well. I tried to return and give them the benefit of the doubt, and they still have not improved their communication. When I showed up with clothes in a clear container as instructed, I was told I would need to wait from 30 mins to an hour for them to tell me which pieces they would take. This upset me because most people don't have an hour to wait around doing nothing. Then, after the hour I was told none of my clothes I brought was useable which could have been been told to me just by quickly scanning the clear container. Drove 45+ minutes to this location for a first time sell after the guy on insta live told me I can bring in and sell my 4 Supreme shirts and 1 Yams Day 2021 hoodie. Upon bringing them, I was told I needed to wait an hour all for them to tell me they couldn't take anything and that my clothes was "off". All of my items were bought from well-known shops that sell nothing but legitimate clothing especially big street wear brands. I followed the list exactly including never worn items and they only accepted three items out of about 40 items I brought with a variety of lame excuses for rejecting them. It's annoying traveling an hour to get there only to return home with most of the items. Also what they accepted they gave 5.00 or less--Will not be wasting my time with them anymore. Listen I'm giving one star for the nice kids at the register. Otherwise this is a waste of time if you wanna try to sell your clothes. Your probably better off getting more money selling your clothes online even though it's more of a hassle. They literally give you close to no money for the clothes you bring in regardless of brand etc. There should probably be a minimum price for how much you give back to the person depending on the brand and if the piece is in good quality. It's crazy to think you bring in $50 sweatshirt and get $5 back for it essentially. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking to get quick cash. I went to Platos closet in commack and i cant compare it to anything because i haven't been to a thrift shop in a while, however, i found it a nice store! it was somewhat easy to navigate and the workers were nice. There was a grand selecting but thift shops are nomally hit or miss. There was some shein clothes but they did have some nice brands like free the people and lulu lemon. The only thing i didnt like was how some of the tags were off of the shirts or pants, and how they dont give bags after checking out (it dosent really matter tho) anyway I am happy with my experience and will most likely return for more!! read more

I've come here about 3 times in the past before COVID to shop. When I realized that they buy, I brought my clothes and it was a pretty quick experience. I had to wait a bit to see how much they'd approve to give me for my stuff. I got about $30. It wasn't much and they gave me back the stuff that wasn't seasonal appropriate. It was cool, I then donated the rest. Now, after COVID I figured it'd be restrictions, but luckily they're now fully open so I figured I'd get rid of some clothes since were going into spring. I drove 45 min to bring my bags of clothes and the girl asked if I had an appointment, I said no. She then told me i had to make an appointment online and that they only accepted two bags. Fair enough I scheduled the appointment. I come back driving 45 min. I had been delayed on the phone prior trying to get health insurance so I ended up being 10 mins late. There was a total of maybe 3 people shopping, 1 girl trading her stuff in and maybe 3-5 employees behind the counter working. I waited to be attended and a guy walks up to ask if I had an appointment, I said yes it was at 3:45 but I'm a bit late and before I finished he told me he could try to fit me in if the 4:15 appointment doesn't show up. Otherwise I would have to come back. I told him I drove really far and this was my second time showing up. He didn't acknowledge that at all. He basically didn't care. I understand that I was late but I felt like this was poor customer service. I don't support places that don't care about their customers or at least try to support somehow. read more

Giving a two star cause the girl at the front was really nice. With that being said, I brought two bags of clothes that had a decent amount of name brand items. I can understand not taking clothes for a certain season, but I was told on the phone that jeans and t-shirts/tops for both men and women were needed... and that's what I brought. I think I have been going to Plato's for about a decade now and I feel like it is getting so stingy with everything. With what they accept the inconsideration for people's time and effort to get rid of good clothes that the person no longer wears. I have taken dresses with tags , ugs, vans , jeans and sweaters, things that are not out of style yet they say next time and make me come back and still just lead you to thinking your stuff is good when it's not. I just remember going and always being able to give a bag and feel happy that there is a place to take things that would still be of value. I have been going here for years and I have always walked out with a bunch of stuff and that feeling like I got great items for a reasonable price. I would have to say my last 3 trips to Platos I left empty-handed and disappointed with the quality of the selection and the prices. My recent trip there will most likely be my last. The prices have gotten steep, and I hate that they started drawing red lines through all their clearance items. I wish I had read the reviews prior to coming here. They did not look through all of the clothing I brought. The amount they offered for the 4 items they wanted to buy was insulting. As a seller you're expected to have your clothes folded and organized when brining it in...but they have no problem throwing your clothing in the bag. They claimed that the wear of some items were a factor in not accepting them- most of the clothing I brought were barely used. Heads up to anyone who hasn't been here before there's a no garbage bag rule so if you don't want the staff to roll their eyes at you make sure you bring your clothes in a laundry bag. It's mentioned no where on the website. Also after being told to wait over an hour for them to "access" my clothing I was told they would be taking nothing of mine due to "too much inventory of sweaters" my bags contained about 4 sweaters, and about 30 other items ranging from jeans, leggings, tops, pants, sweatshirts, etc. My bags were also almost completely in tact when I received them back which leads to my believe they weren't even properly appraised.
