Tuna ya o & French dip sandwich

We had such a great experience at this place, it was our first time here and a gentleman approached us at the bar and took the time to explain the menu to us, we ordered the tuna taco, filet stroganoff pasta, Caesar salad, and roast beef sandwhich. Best meal I've had in a while!! I also paired my meal with a cab. Great music as well!! Will be back

I've been to Plate 38 a few times and it's always been a vibe. Decided to go today with my fam and it was pretty decent. I had the crab cakes and ceasar salad w/ chicken. The crab cakes were very tasty so 5/5 for me!!! The salad was good too, which you can't go wrong with! The menu changes everyday so it's always different! Very good options as well. The service was ok...our server was nice she messed up a few times on our order but did correct it!! So customer service was 4/5 for me. However, all the other workers were very good attentive and checked on us as well. The ambiance is cute! Nice bar and outside seating. It's a good place to go to in Pasadena for brunch and happy hour. They have a really good happy hour menu with good options. It's very reasonable too!! They have it from Wednesday - Sunday 3pm -6pm and then starts from 8pm to close. Mondays is 3pm-close. Very good happy hour for sure!! Will have to try it soon! Plenty of parking in the lot. -Marshay D.

We were looking for a happy place on a Thursday afternoon. We arrived before 5 and the restaurant is semi packed already. The restaurant looks cozy and chose to sit inside instead of at the patio. We asked for the happy hour menu. We checked the menu and found that the pricing is not really attractive. One taco is $8/9 but if you get 3 tacos from the main dinner menu, it's $20. We decide to order the main dinner short ribs with mash potatoes to share. We each ordered a drink. The server was friendly and responsive. He even split our dinner already so we enjoyed it without splitting it ourselves. Since we were not too hungry, sharing the main course is perfect. The food tastes good and drinks are good. HH pricing is ok. I have seen better in the Pasadena area. It's good we tried this place, but probably won't be back.

I have not eaten here since COVID. Finally went back and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Service was cool and the menu had a lot of unique items to choose from. They change the dinner menu every day, and the owner, does a lot of the cooking and menu items. That's why I love it here because he is invested in his business and cares about his customers. This is a plus for me. They have a great happy hour menu daily even on the weekends. Easy parking.

This was our first time there ! We went the day before Mother's Day with a big party. There was a lot for parking and we had a reservation. We waited a bit to get seated and once we did unfortunately the service was not great. Everything took a long time and we were there way longer than we wanted to be. The servers were nice but definitely overwhelmed. We went during happy hour but honestly the pricing for that was not great and only come with one item per order off the menu. Might as well just order off the main menu to get enough food. The reason why I still gave 3 stars is because the food was SOOO GOOD! I hope to be back to try more of the food and hopefully it was just one off day. I got the yellowtail and one poke taco . Both delicious!!

Off the beaten path from the hustle and bustle of Pasadena, we stumbled upon this fantastic gem! Everything here feels made with care ...from the food to the service. Manuel created a beautiful custom mocktail for me with cucumber and fresh juice that was both refreshing and perfectly balanced. I had the salmon salad, which came with beets, asparagus, mandarin oranges, and a balsamic vinaigrette -- such a delicious combo! I also really appreciated that they ask what temperature you'd like your salmon cooked -- not many places do that. Stephanie, one of the servers, was absolutely fantastic! Even though she wasn't our main server, she stopped by to chat and was so funny and personable. It's rare to meet someone who brings such great energy to the whole restaurant, not just their own tables. And let's talk about dessert !!!Hands down my favorite part (though everything was amazing). It came with candied nuts on top, coconut cream in the middle, and a rich chocolate ganache on top, with mint and fresh berries on the side. To die for! I'm already planning my next visit. Can't wait to try the pumpkin soufflé next time!

Croissant Breakfast Sandwich & mimosa

Came here for bottomless and well it was fun! I think the food here is okay and pricey for what it is. The bottomless was insane because each mimosa is so big and so strong that you really can't kill a lot of them but it's plenty to get to the bottom‍ anyways bottomless at rfd and Edwin mills is superior

Cute fun place...We came in as a party of 9 and we were seated on the side patio with an extremely loud party which was fine. Our server Stephanie noticed how loud they were and offered to move us to their other patio. What a great save! We all traveled an hour to get there so being able to talk to each other made all the difference. Service was top notch from Stephanie to the rest of the staff. Everyone enjoyed their food from the breakfast burrito, burgers, fries, and the croque madame. The only disappointing thing here was the chilaquiles. They had very little flavor, really soggy chips (soggier than they should be). I wish there was a dab of cheese or beans. 3 of us had them and said the same thing. I would definitely come back and enjoy something else. Their bar is fully stocked and it looks amazing. Sunday brunch is probably a blast here!

My favorite thing here is the ambiance. Very lively, warm and a great neighborhood gem that is not too uppity but nice for any evening. The staff are welcoming, grateful to have you & serve, and ready to give recommendations on any of the food and drinks. They time the service well, too. So you can see signs of how hard the team work as indictable and as a collective to give a great over all dining experience. The food ingredients are quality and they craft some very tasty and interesting selections. There's usually a specials menu and the standard menu, which is exciting. And I've never had a bad dish here, but I definitely have some favs! The drinks are also quality and crafted well. I've never had a bad drink here either. I recommend Plate 38 if you're in for a chill neighborhood culinary experience with a friend, spouse or small group. Or, hang with many at the bar if you come early and find seating.

Hours of operation

I've been going to Plate 38 since the beginning. The food has always been good, sometimes even great. The service is hit or miss, but mostly hit. We came for dinner tonight, ordered drinks and a few plates from the after 8 happy hour menu, then at just after 9pm, our server came by to let us know it was last call for the kitchen... Which seemed a bit premature because their posted closing hour is 10:30pm on a Saturday night. I asked to order an item from the specials menu and was told that the kitchen already put all of that "stuff" away. But she had also just said it was "last call". Clearly the kitchen closed at 9pm. If that's the case, fine, but please change your posted hours of operation. This was a very disappointing experience.

$14 slice of cheesecake

$14 for a slice of cheesecake about the length of five quarters laid side by side. Ironically, the cheesecake should have cost about the same as five quarters. The container and bag it came in were disproportionately bigger than the dessert itself. And after all that, the cheesecake was just meh. Ridiculously and obscenly overpriced.

Amazing restaurant with delicious food and a great ambiance. Went on a weekday night to watch the Dodgers game and it was not super busy. They had a big TV at the bar area, as well as indoor and outdoor seating. The burgers were packed with flavor and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The fries were thin and perfectly crispy.

Filet Mignon

One of my favorite restaurants. Waitstaff, bartenders are always nice. Food excellent, always very fresh. Def recommend to come here if you like oysters m. It can get a little loud, if you are hard of hearing. But the atmosphere is always great, intimate. The interior is clean. Will always come back here.

Unfortunately, the food and service experience left me very disappointed. The menu is surprisingly rigid, particularly for anyone with dietary restrictions. There are very few vegan options, and what was most frustrating was the unwillingness to make even very simple accommodations to existing menu items. For example, I ordered a salad and simply asked for the steak to be served on the side rather than mixed into the salad. I wasn't asking for ingredients to be removed or for the dish to be changed--I was only asking for the steak to be served separately. I was told this could not be accommodated. For a restaurant at this level, I found that unnecessarily inflexible. The customer service also left a lot to be desired. I had an interaction with the supervisor, Santos, that felt particularly lacking in empathy and understanding. Even when a restaurant has policies or limitations, there is a way to communicate them with a little warmth and consideration. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. It's a shame because the restaurant has so much going for it visually and atmospherically. I really wanted the overall experience to match the beautiful setting, but the inflexible menu and customer service made it difficult to enjoy the visit. I hope the restaurant will consider offering more options for guests with dietary restrictions and empowering its staff to make reasonable accommodations.

It wasnt that busy at the time of our arrival. There were a lot of tables and the noise level was quiet. The host was nice and sat us not too long after we arrived. The table that we got sat at was extremely wobbly. My father-in-law noticed another table had napkins placed underneath to stabilize so he did the same to our table and it worked. Tara took our order and brought out the drinks. The food was 90% great! The 10% that fell short was a combination of things. 1) menu online and the physical menu said corn bread (which we were told no longer serves them). If its no longer available, update the menu because we were excited to try the corn bread. 2) a bbq place with no wet naps, that is really weird. However, they did bring me a stack of paper towels that were wet as if they were wet naps. 3) only 1 steak knife was provided in the platters. It was hard for a party of 6 to cut up meat with only 1 steak knife. 4) one of the sides came out cold, and hard. I bit into a macaroni and it felt raw because of how hard it was! I even dropped the macaroni on the plate and it rang! We brought it to the servers attention and we were able to get a fresh one free of charge. We loved the short ribs and the tomahawk steak! They were delicious. Baked potato as a side item was very large! During the whole time we were eating, no one came by to check on us, refills were not provided until after we were done eating. We never got one of the drinks that Tara wrote down and it showed up on the check. I was trying to get a staff members attention, and my hand was raised up, and there were hosts that saw my hand raised, but did nothing. There were other servers and runners that saw it too. Took a while for us to get any help. We eventually flagged down our server after what felt like 5 minutes. We brought the charge to our servers attention, and they corrected that too. Overall, the table service could have been a lot better, fix broken tables, and I suggest you bring your own wet naps or baby wipes because they dont supply any.

The mains (the trout and the chicken) were a little bit of a letdown by comparison, just feeling kind of average, but they were still fine. Just nothing to rave about. QUICK TAKE Get: Fish of the Day, Lamb, Moroccan-style Mushrooms Skip: Duck was our one miss Know: This is a good place for adventurous eaters who like sharing dishes and trying unexpected flavor combinations. Holy Saints does a nice job of making food feel creative without crossing over into "trying too hard." There are a lot of different influences running through the menu, and several dishes had us talking about the flavors and ingredients as much as the food itself. What we tried: Moroccan-style Mushrooms - A great example of what Holy Saints does well. Earthy, savory mushrooms with contrasting textures from the nuts, thinly sliced radish, herbs and crispy elements on top. There was a lot happening on the plate, but it all worked together. Definitely one to share. Fish of the Day - One of the highlights of the meal and something I would absolutely order again. The fish came over rice in a deeply flavored sauce with peppers, herbs and fresh vegetables. Colorful, comforting and much more interesting than the standard fish-and-vegetables preparation you see at a lot of restaurants. Lamb - Another winner. Rich, hearty and well seasoned, with the sauce pulling everything together. If you're visiting for the first time and like lamb, this would be high on my list. Duck - Good flavor, but it seemed like the duck sauce could have benefited from a little more time to rest before being sliced and served. We joked that we should have brought a bag, taken it home and eaten it as leftovers instead. Sometimes duck might just need a night to think about what it did. What I liked most about Holy Saints is that the food wasn't boring. The kitchen takes familiar ingredients and puts them together in ways you probably wouldn't think of yourself, which makes it a fun restaurant for ordering several things and sharing around the table.

Since we had our toddler with us, we asked for a high chair but they said they didn't have any, which was quite disappointing for a restaurant like this. Luckily our table had a loveseat type couch, so we were able to squeeze our toddler in between us during the meal. We were here for the weekend brunch and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the price of the menu items! For a restaurant on Lake, I was expecting more. After a quick glance at the menu, made a reservation and we all met up. We were able to get seated right away at a booth, and water was brought out for the table immediately. We started with drinks and I honestly don't remember what everyone had. The Mai Tai was a little lackluster, though, but the other cocktails were decent. For food, we started with the oysters, potatoes croquettes and agnolotti. The oysters were fine, can't complain about oysters, but they really didn't stand out necessarily. The croquettes were tasty, nice and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with smoked bacon and cheddar cheese. And the agnolotti came topped with a truffle foam and filled with ricotta cheese. Also a nice bite! For entrees we tried the pork chop, rigatoni, shrimp penne and the bucatini spaghetti. The shrimp penne has a good amount of shrimp in it, which is always nice, but there seemed to be a missing flavor profile to make the dish pop. The same with the rigatoni with basil pesto, it just tasted like something was missing to elevate it into a great dish. The rigatoni did have that nice pesto green color which stands out though. The bucatini was a little better with the spiciness from the vodka sauce giving it a little punch, but the stand out was the boneless pork chop with broccoli and cheddar covered potato gnocchi. Pork chop was cooked perfectly, great flavor on the pork and the gnocchi hit as well. Overall, Italian spot in Pasadena seeing up didn't nice looking dishes. The agnolotti, croquettes and pork chop were definitely stars of the meal, while the pasta dishes didn't hit like we all hoped they would. I'd stick with the proteins and maybe skip the pastas.
