Great breakfast/brunch spot in Sierra madre. Offering indoor and outdoor seating (heat lamps out front to keep you toasty on cooler/cloudy days). We had a reservation for 6, arrived 15 minutes early and were immediately seated. Service was excellent, the orange juice was freshly squeezed and delicious. I opted for the chorizo skillet, it was portioned nicely, seasoned well and tasted great. Everyone in our party was extremely pleased with their meals. My cousin ordered and omelet with spinach and mushrooms and it was fantastic! I will definitely be back next time I am in the area and will bookmark it for friends and family to reference! P.S. I've been a customer for many years. Only one prior negative experience 5 years ago when they questioned if my daughter really qualified for their children's menu ( she is tall). It does grieve me to have to downgrade my review of Sierra Madre's Nano Cafe, but it would not be an honest review if I didn't. First, I'd like to clarify that the food has always been good. If I were to rate the food alone, it would certainly be a 4.5 - 5.0 rating. However when I factor in the service (or lack there of) that I received the last three times there, it's a 1.0 possibly a 2.0, and that would be really pushing it. The servers at Nano, take your drink order and food order. Later they'll bring your order and disappear. Never bothering to return to check on us. Just recently I asked our server for a beverage refill, she nodded and scurried along. After waiting a while I gave up and flagged down another server to help me. She did. It seems that the servers are trained not to expect a decent tip, to just stonewall the customers. Really disappointing! read more

Nano Café is located in a cute area of Sierra Madre. My boyfriend and I had noticed it during a prior visit to a neighboring spot for lunch, especially for their breakfast all day offerings. They have a private lot or you can find street parking. The parking lot was overflowed, so we found parking about a block away near a park. Business seems busy, but luckily there wasn't a wait when we came since they have an abundance of indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated at a small wobbly 2 top inside. Our waitress was quick to getting our order, but not as quick when we were trying to waive someone down for the check. It seems like the staff has to manage a high volume of customers per waitstaff. My boyfriend had their Country Skillet ($17.99) which comes with diced ham, bacon, sausage, grilled bell peppers, onions, 2 scrambled eggs over home fries. Standard is gravy on top, but my boyfriend asked for his gravy on the side. I had their California Omelette ($18.99) which has bacon and tomatoes, topped with jack cheese and avocado. It came with home fries or hash browns, which I opted for the home fries. Looking at the menu in retrospect, it is also suppose to come with toast or resh biscuit in which I got neither. While I was waiting for our food, I saw another staff member sneeze in their hand, and then same hand went and got a drink refill for another customer and held the drink at the rim. I also saw the same person sneeze into their work area, without covering their mouth. Ughhh cringeeeee! I'm so glad this individual wasn't our wait staff, but it ruined my appetite. By the time the food came out, I feel like the portion is small than other similar breakfast diners. Especially at this price point. But I guess that's a Sierra Madre higher rent reason. The food tasted about average. Nothing special or unique to make me want to come back... especially with the struggle to waive staff down for the check and questionable health practice by staff. This restaurant is plenty busy and popular. I know my review doesn't matter to them, but I'm definitely not coming back. read more

It is hard to believe that we have been in the area for years and have not been to Nano Cafe! Recently we have had breakfast there and had a wonderful time! The outdoor patio in front is a delightful relaxing space. We were seated promptly and immediately a friendly server had glasses of ice water placed in front of us as we perused the menu. We decided to order the Bacon and Eggs, the Blueberry Pancakes, and a Cinnamon Roll. The bacon was nicely crispy and thick. Yum! We chose scrambled eggs which were delightfully fluffy. As a side we decided on hash browns and these were nicely browned on the outside and well cooked on the inside. This was a very filling and tasty breakfast. The blueberry pancakes were nicely cakey with great blueberriness! Really liked the flavor of these pancakes. The cinnamon roll was thick, a little gooey, and nicely frosted. A little hyperglycemia never hurts right? We loved our breakfast at Nano Cafe and look forward to the next time we can visit to try other delectable items on the menu. read more

Walked past this spot a while ago and made a mental note to come back one day for breakfast. So a few weeks later my wife and I came over and had a very nice breakfast, very first rate! The service was fast and friendly, and the food was good. The portions were huge! Imagine a ham steak that covers HALF the plate! I've never seen a bigger side order of fruit either. It's a meal in itself, not the usual sad little fruit cup you get in other restaurants. The prices were maybe a little higher than some others, but the food quality and portions made it well worth the cost. My coworkers and I wanted to meet up for brunch and I told them about Nano Cafe. As soon as you walk in... You feel the warm and cozy vibe. The servers are super friendly and set up the table of eight for us. We all ordered our yummy food. My favorite is their California omelette, which I got today, my coworkers got a few items that I took pictures of. Everything turned out so good and they were very impressed with the food and the quantity of food that you get. My friends were also really impressed with the service, the servers kept coming around to ask if we needed our coffees refilled. They knew that we were meeting for a birthday and the holidays so they kept telling us to take our time and enjoy each other's company, which we really appreciated. They said they will definitely be back with their families. I've been coming to nano's for a few years now and I can't believe I've never left a review for them. Nano is your foundational, local 4 star brunch cafe that has all of the things necessary: First off, great and quick service. It is a small business and they really emphasize that through their care for customers. I can tell a lot of people are on a first name basis. Second, the food. Even as things get more expensive, they have very reasonable prices for the food that is made. We got the lox bagel and chorizo scramble and both were delicious. Ambiance is great. A bustling cafe during even the busiest times has a seat for everyone due to how much seating there is. Not much else to say besides the fact that it is highly recommended! read more

My best friend took me here when she was taking me on a little tour to check out Sierra Madre! (She's moving here). She assured me that everything you order here is good, and she was most certainly right! I got the Salmon Benedict and the most DELICIOUS watermelon cucumber green tea cooler. Mind you, when you order something like this (averaging 6.99), you would expect to get ripped off with the tiniest drink (but hey, at least it's tasty). You will NOT experience something like that. You get a 24 oz drink with a massive piece of watermelon in it (I posted a picture) and it was SO GOOD AND SO WORTH IT! The people there were super nice and accomodating, and it was like those great community diners where they take good care of you and there's plenty of great seating with lots of shade! Bonus points: I actually accidentally left my card there and didn't even realize it until the next day. I called and asked about it and they were so nice and compassionate about it. They kept it in a safe place for me until I got there. I know it should be a given that people are honest, but I still appreciate it when they are! This was my first time at the Sierra Madre location. I've been to the one in Duarte and I'm not a fan. So a friend of mine and myself decided to go to this one which she's frequented before and likes. I, too, liked this one better. The service was better. The food was better and the atmosphere seemed a lot better to me. We both ordered the country skillet, which was scrambled eggs with ham, bacon, sausage, home fries with country gravy. The only thing is you couldn't taste the country gravy and we honestly didn't even know if there was any on the skillet. We didn't see it. But the flavor was good. Would definitely order that again. It was a huge portion too. We both ended up bringing home a little more than half of our dish. It also came with toast. We both ordered sourdough, but we're pretty sure we got white. My son was on a time constraint Christmas Day, as he had 3 stops that day, one as far as San Diego. I looked for a restaurant open for breakfast that day. Nano Cafe was open! I live in Glassell Park, and Sierra Madre is pretty close. Inside was very clean, quaint, and cozy. The staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating! I got the country fried steak breakfast, which came with biscuits and gravy. Omg!!!! The biscuits were the fluffiest I've ever eaten! The white gravy was so ultra delicious!! You the term "So good, you wanna swim in it"? That white gravy so fire, I'd be swan diving into it!! lol I don't even know how to swim!! My son had the corn beef hash, which is his breakfast go to and he said it was delicious. I wanted to share a sweet, such as French toast or waffles, but we were too stuffed! We learned from our server, Connie, that it was a family owned business, 5 sisters. I only saw 2 other sisters and they were just as friendly and helpful! Nano cafe is a neighbor cafe with two locations. The first location was in Monrovia and it is more of a hole in the wall/diner. This second location is newer and is located in Sierra Madre. It's bigger inside and outside. I am glad both locations survived the pandemic. I came to this location to support my neighbor who was performing that Saturday night with his band. We decided to sit outside because it was packed and crowded inside. The restaurant had heater lamps so we didn't feel cold even though it rained earlier that day. Service was EXCELLENT! Our waitress and the manager kept checking on us asking if we needed more drinks, food and or heat. We ordered the following: 1. Fried Calamari 2. Chinese chicken salad and it came with one piece of garlic toast 3. Beef stroganoff 4. Chocolate cake with ice cream 5. Hot tea and lemonade Everything tasted delicious. This restaurant was filled with locals and regulars. It had a homey and a local vibe. I will be returning to try their chicken pot pie. We went inside for some dancing later and had so much fun! We were pleasantly surprised to find Nano Cafe open on Christmas Day when every other place in town is closed. As expected, the wait was very very VERY long since the place was packed, but the servers were very attentive with providing us with updates and refilling our coffees. The place is usually pretty busy, and on regular days sometimes you just got to waive down the servers it doesn't seem like they have enough people working the tables (hence minus one star). We ordered salmon Benedict, bacon Benedict, banana waffles, and country breakfast. All were absolutely yummy, except they forgot the biscuit that was supposed to come with the country breakfast. The server brought it out to us after we reminded them, no biggie. All in all, the food is very good across the menu and service is nice.
