This is what pizza should be. It's a thin crust but has some chew. The fact that it's cooked in 'fire' lends beautiful charred marks around the crust. The sauce is flavorful and not overdone. Same with the amount of cheese they use. The basil is a nice addition that adds a pop of freshness. I'm so glad I found this place. This will be the spot from now on. I went with their Margherita pizza and they brought out some bread with a bruschetta style dip that was outstanding, all for around $12!! Pizza was awesome and the interior was classy for as small of a place it is. The server was very friendly. I don't recommend bringing kids with as the place echos and of course kids can be kind of loud. I wouldn't recommend hanging around after to have a cig as a pan handler may come around and ask for money.... Other than that, great authentic pizza and worth ordering take out!! read more

It's all about the oven! Wood fired brick oven I'm guessing. Excellent Pizza!! If you ever wanted to prove the saying "don't judge a book by the cover" this would be the place! I've driven past here a hundred times a didn't think twice. Then I got hold of a Pizza Top 10 list and this was on it. I even tried coming here twice before and left without coming inside. Really, really good food. Believe every good review you read. I can't speak for the pizza, but the pasta dishes we've gotten from here have been top notch. Don't judge the book by its cover. It's a true ma and pa operation, so it doesn't look like much. The location isn't impressive. If you're looking for swank or glitzy, this isn't for you. I had my doubts. Some family and I had found ourselves in Phoenix somewhat unexpectedly, and when looking for places to eat I turned to yelp. There appeared to be some doubt among my relatives as to the wisdom of trusting people on the internet. This was not helped when we pulled up and realized that the restaurant is in a strip mall attached to a gas station. Luckily, we went in. This is one of my favorite spots. I work downtown and usually make it here once a week or every other week. I came here and was happy to order chicken Marsala and hear a few minutes latter the chief pounding chicken cutlets, reminded me of home. Fresh and on point, the Alfredo is out of this world and the pizzas are the same. They have a large brick over to cook there pizza and the pizza comes out thin crust as if it was made in a bakers pride oven. Don't let the outside deter you, once inside it is a very modern romantic look with a few tables. Great date spot or place to pick up to go. One last thing, every time I go to Pizza a metro the service is some of the best I've experienced in the food industry. read more

My son and I were in town and went by Pizzeria Bianco and didn't want to wait 2 hours, so while on the way back to the hotel, my son used Yelp and found this little gem. The pizza was pretty good, and I had a pasta special that was quite good. The owner was very attentive. The nearby table had ordered a large pizza, and they were served a slab that was 1' x 3' on a wooden plank. Very Impressive! The only negative is that the guy cooking the pizzas should let them get a little browner (maybe even a little char) to make the taste more authentic. read more

They really went out of their way to accommodate our family - from tired, hungry kids to out of town guests who were missing the taste of authentic Italian food...not the first time we have been here, but this recent trip made it worthy of review. Our waitress was happy to offer suggestions; wine was great and she was attentive to keeping it filled. Food - I had al dente penne with chicken and vodka sauce, and my husband had a seafood plate (we can't remember the name but fabulous) - everyone's food came out quickly and delicious. You can watch your pizza cook in the brick oven and you can watch them make it. I cannot express how much I loved everything. I love this place. Yes it's tiny, and yes it's in a crappy strip mall and yes it's a tad pricey, BUT it is some of the best authentic true Italian style Neapolitan pizza and pasta in Phoenix. They make everything from scratch, including the mozzarella, from very fresh, high end ingredients. If you know real italian food, you can really tell the difference. I have spoken to the owner and staff many times, and they know they are a little pricey, but they want to maintain the high quality standards. And it's not like they are expensive by any means. I have no problem paying a couple extra dollars for great quality. Someone compared this place to Pinos. Pinos has great NY style pizza, not Italian style Neapolitan, so you cant compare them because they are very different styles. That makes it clear that the reviewer didn't have a clue what they were talking about. I prefer Neapolitan, so I prefer Pizza A Metro to Pinos. The ingredients are much fresher and higher quality. Plus the staff at PIno's tend to be rather rude and they nickle and dime you over everything, so I only go there if I am in the mood for NY style, which they do well. The pizza is excellent and authentic, as is the pasta. The pollo parmesan is fantastic. The sauce is true Italian style and very fresh. They serve fresh bread made from pizza crust with all pasta. I usually ask for marinara sauce instead of the olive/onion mixture and mix it with some olive oil. A previous reviewer says they stopped serving it, but that's definitely not correct. They only serve it with pasta, not pizza, so that may be the confusion. My favorites are the Pizza with meatballs, the pollo parmesan and the capricciosa pizza. And the Vodke Penne is just amazing. The cannoli are delicious, if a bit over priced. Pizza A Metro is truly a gem in Phoenix - an authentic Italian restaurant like you might find in an Italian neighborhood in a larger city. The food is excellent, authentic and fresh. The staff is friendly. I go there a few times a month and have never had a bad experience. Check it out. read more

Tiny restaurant in what might have once been a convenience store. The pasta was good, filling and competent, better than an Olive Garden but not particularly amazing or memorable. It was something with vodka sauce. The real specialty of this spot is the wood-fired pizzas! House made mozzarella, sauce and dough.
