Pio Bagel is what I would consider to be an average bagel shop, compared to the several other bagel shops in NYC. They have a wide variety of bagel and cream cheese options (like the avocado cream cheese or tofu cream cheese); paired with specials/combos that are not too flexible. For example: a plain bagel with cream cheese & small coffee is $5 something. God forbid you'd like a small iced coffee instead-- there is no upcharge and they have to now charge you separately. There is a bit of line jumping involved that can make you feel a tad uncomfortable, especially when be rushed by the staff to keep the lines moving, Maybe I am just being annoying. But this place is also cash only. If I really needed a bagel, I would run inside for a rainbow bagel with cinnamon walnut cream-cheese. They have a wide variety, and worth the try. Cute little bagel shop in downtown Brooklyn. I got a multigrain bagel with pb&j for $2.50 which i thought was a good deal. The bagel was appropriately chewy and soft inside and hard and crunchy outside. Its a little bit sensory overload when I walked in between the salads, yogurts, cupcakes, greek goodies and many other things I'm probably forgetting. I had trouble sort of figuring out the ordering- paying process but was directed in the right direction by the staff. You order to the far right side of the counter and once prepared, take your food then to the cashier to pay. They have an extensive menu up overhead but unfortunately, one of the cream cheese flavors (avocado cream cheese!) was not on the over head menu and only noted in big tubs behind glass after I had ordered. I would avoid this place for several reasons, but I am going to provide an unbiased review of someone who has eaten here for years despite the service deteriorating to a point of no return. The lines - the lines here are always excessive. They seem to have one or two people working the registers max while also making coffee and servicing customers. Completely inefficient. I raised this issue with an employee and she told me to speak to the manager who was eating at one of the tables. The bagels - these are cooked on premises it seems, but their consistency and chewiness is not what it used to be or compared to other bagel stores in Manhattan. Lox - again, this has deteriorated significantly as well. Overall there may not be a better bagel store in the area, so you might as well not eat the bagel, avoid the calories, and go across the street for something healthier. read more

It can get busy on Saturday / Sunday mornings, but they move quick, so you're generally not waiting more than 4-5 minutes for your order. I came here one morning, being around Jay St and wanting a bagel with sweet cream cheese options. I got a blueberry bagel (electric blue!) with strawberry cream cheese and took it back to my apartment. Meh. The blueberry didn't have any distinctive taste, nor did the cream cheese. I always order the same thing every time I am working in Brooklyn. The salad, with grilled chicken, corn, cranberries, almonds and avocado and the homemade granola and berries parfait. The food is decent but no matter how busy they are there is always at least one staff member making the cream cheeses look pretty rather than helping customers. I'm always in a rush when I come here so I find this incredibly irritating. So much so that I chose to write a Yelp review for the first time in years. Their clientele are almost exclusively people headed into work or on their lunch break. None of those people value the aesthetic of the cream cheeses over their time. Several of my co-workers and myself just had a very off-putting (and somewhat unexpected) experience with this establishment. Typically when we order delivery from here there is not a problem, aside from small parts of the order being messed up but that's the norm for Pio Bagel. What's so strange is that we had ordered breakfast from them earlier in the week and received everything within 20 minutes. However, this morning was a different story altogether as we waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food. You read that right; one hour and forty-five minutes. The order was placed at 9am and after an hour of not receiving the food we decided to give them a call. At this point they told us that the food was on its way and should be there in about 10 minutes. 15 minutes go by and we call again and are once again told that the food should be there in 10 minutes and this time, they were going to call the delivery person to see where he was. After another 10 minutes everyone was starting to get annoyed so we called back. This time it was a different person who answered and was giving me the run-around. We kept asking to speak to the other person who was handling the phones earlier and they just put me on hold. After about 5 minutes my patience ran out so I hung up. This was clearly a case of the restaurant forgetting to put in an order and wouldn't even have known if the customer wasn't the one to contact them about it first. We then went to start filing a complaint in GrubHub when the phone rings (it's now 10:45) and the delivery person is downstairs. Not only is it bad enough that it took nearly two hours for the food to arrive but here's the kicker; most of the order was incorrect, cold or missing. One of my colleague's entire order had been omitted from the delivery and they have the nerve to still charge us for this!! At that point we weren't even going to bother sending the incorrect items back as we didn't feel like waiting another 2 hours for our food to maybe arrive the way it was supposed to. So now we're on GrubHub finishing up the complaint and after all of that we're told that only 50% of the order is going to be refunded...."No" says I. The credit card company will be contacted and the transaction cancelled. This lateness and negligence is inexcusable for a simple order which was delivered correctly and in a timely manner mere days before. While we may not be charged for the transaction, it still doesn't put any food in the stomach of my colleague who is now behind me, hangrily tending to paperwork because he didn't have anything for breakfast and decided to just wait until lunchtime to get food. You really dropped the ball on this one, Pio Bagel. Looks like we need to find a new, competent, breakfast spot. read more

The bagels are fresh, the sandwiches are well made and everything including the coffee is a $1-2 cheaper than nearby bagel places. The people complaining about their orders must have recently moved in to the city. If you're at the store, talk to the deli men like people and articulate what you want, and online use the notes to add your instructions and be specific. This place used to be great. Cream cheese was always fresh and they put lots of them in bagles. However recently it got worse. They put very little cheese and bagles are often half burn. Today I and my friend got different stuff and we could see both of them have pickle like flavor which could mean it's not fresh. Also they seemed use same spoon to put stuff into bagles that can potentially cause some serious allergic issue. Hopefully they read this and get better. read more

I was robbed! I was charged $7.89 for a bagel with (1) slice of cheese and (1) tomato. I went back two times before they granted me a refund of $5.89. Told me I had to tell the cashier I only order one bagel, as I was over charged because they thought I had two items. There was one bag ... and one bagel the cashier gave me. No way she could've thought there were two items inside the bag - she handed it to me. The receipt indicted (1) item. Veyra - the morning manager is a lie. Her excuse didn't add up to what was printed. They charged me $2.50 for a buttered bagel, 3.75 for (1) slice of cheese and $1.00 for tomato. The menu on the wall are as vague as the printed menu, which may I add, isn't readily available to browse prices. Ask how much before you place your order? Ask how much are each "add ons". They charged me a sandwich price because I added one slice of cheese and tomato smh ... I come here a lot for a bagel breakfast and I love the array of cream cheese options available. There's not much seating area, so the best option would be to just grab and go. read more

Gluten free bagels that seem unbelievable! Warning: if you have celiacs you may have to be concerned about cross contamination. This bagel place has regular bagels...and house made gluten-free bagels that seem to good to be true. They also have regular cream cheese, tofu cream cheese and all the regular bagel store stuff. I do not have celiacs, I am just intolerant to wheat and dairy, so this place is an inexpensive dream come true. They usually just have plain gluten-free bagels, but I have called and ordered a dozen, half plain gf and half sesame gf, the sesame ones were just as good if not better. :) read more

Solid place to grab breakfast sandwiches on the go. I've been coming here for over a year and usually the sandwiches are prepared quickly and accurately. Their breakfasts are probably the best in the area at a good price point. Good variety of bagels, cream cheese, and muffins as well. I've never tried any of their beverages or smoothies, but I once gave their tuna salad a shot for lunch, and it was just ok. So I've only ever returned for breakfast on the go. If you come during off-peak times, such as before 8am on a weekday, you can get in and out of here pretty fast, often within 5 minutes or so. However, be prepared to wait a while on line during the morning breakfast rush, and spend most of your visit waiting to pay. This place could probably get people out the door faster if cashiers didn't need to also serve coffee and baked goods. Also, don't expect to come here and (comfortably) sit down to eat; unfortunately all of the seating is near the line of people that wraps from the door, through the ordering area, and to the cashier. There also isn't any air conditioning, so on a hot summer day you probably wouldn't be too comfortable here even if it was empty. In short, I'd recommend this place for to-go breakfast orders only. You can't go wrong with their bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwiches, both in the quality of the food and also with the price. Give it a try if you work or live in the area. read more

My review is only for the two different kinds of bagels I had from here (I mean their name is Pio BAGELS!). My experience with the bagels can be described as a o-k. But sadly, I was disappointed. Not many places around here that have a variety of cream cheese to choose from. But the cream cheese lacked flavor! The scallion cream cheese and cinnamon raisin walnut cream cheese were very creamy and smooth...but where's the filling? I would expect to be able to have good bites of scallion/raisin and walnuts. The cream cheese are just slightly flavored is all. Also, the bagels....are a bit stiff shall I say? Not the doughy soft bagels I love to take a bite into. I came across this bagel store as I was walking down Downtown Brooklyn. I always like to get bagels from places where they are baked on premise. They offer a great selection of bagels along with a variety of cream cheeses. My favorite by far is the whole wheat bagel with Avocado cream cheese. They also offer many other food selections besides bagels such as salads, smoothies, sandwiches, and shakes. Its definitely worth stopping in and trying one of their fresh bagels. read more
