The bagels were not warm, just the ingredients inside, and there was a lot of egg inside the bagel. Still quite good. Myrtle Bagel is a solid bagel shop in Fort Greene. The shop is standard with a few tables and counter to order. My first visit, I bought a few bagels to go and were impressed by how big each bagel was for the price. Definitely getting your money's worth! The second visit, I decided to get the lox bagel sandwich and was not too impressed. The everything bagel was dense and there was nothing that stood out eating this sandwich. It had all the fixings but didn't deliver. The price however is very good, I believe around $12-$13?, but maybe I'd rather pay more for a better quality lox bagel. read more

I got one of the egg white special sandwiches with added turkey and I have to say it was good maybe too much cheese in it but overall it was good and I would come back to try other things. The place looks nice and there's plenty of things to choose from. My next choice would obviously be what the place is named after which is a bagel! This was one of the only places in the area open on Thanksgiving. They had a lot of options on the menu, but after all of us decided what we wanted to order they told us the grill was off and they wouldn't be able to make most of what we wanted (?!) - we came in the afternoon so maybe it's only on in the mornings, but it was still pretty strange and they should have mentioned that first. Then after ordering a few bagels and a sandwich, the wait time was pretty long, and it was cold inside while we waited - the tables are right by the door so it's not a great place to eat in the colder months. So yesterday I thought I'd be all adventurous and try another new bagel shop. ::sigh:: Sometimes its better to stick with what you know is good. No complaints about the location, the decor or even the staff working. The food was the disappointment here. First up was the Chicken Cordon Bleu on a roll. Good amount of chicken... even though I thought it was weird that they cut it into little strips rather than leaving it as a cutlet. Nice pile of ham on top of the chicken and swiss melted over everything. Sadly though the sandwich needed more honey mustard. I think there was only one bite where I actually tasted it. Also picked up a black and white cookie... in a word: EW!! Do not order one of these cookies. I've had such great b/w cookies at other bagel shops... not this one. This b/w tasted chemically, ugh, I'd like my money back on this one please. Also picked up a couple bagels for the morning. Large. Doughy. All around nice bagel. One star for the sandwich, one star for the bagels, and I guess one star for the establishment itself... like I said - no complaints there. I come in for one small coffee light and sweet nothing more nothing less. They mess up that simple order I get to work without checking my coffee and it's black. Morning not ruined but definitely annoying. I saved the coffee and brought it back 2 hours later. Bagel is a pretty standard specimen. Ordered an everything bagel with less cream as the standard amount is usually overwhelming. The bagel itself was dense with a closed crumb. Not particularly chewy. The exterior was somewhat crisp and reading pulled into small pieces. The bottom had a small amount of semolina and was bordering on overdone. The flavor overall of the bread was flat and starchy. Needed more development. The everything topping had this vegetative onion flavor which I find off putting. The balance was okay, though more poppy seeds and salt would have been preferred. The cream cheese was standard commercial stuff, lacking the creamy richness of more quality products. Myrtle Bagel is your typical NYC bagel joint and very reminiscent of La Bagel Delite. With a huge case of spreads, baskets of delicious carbs, sandwiches, and coffee, you can't really go too wrong here. This location has seats for 10, so not big enough for a restroom. They make sandwiches, hot and cold, as well as the typical bagel with specialty cream cheeses. They also cater and do big platters if that's something you ever need. I ordered a #3 - an avocado, bacon, cheese on a bagel with a small coffee. The bagel is NYC standard - chewy outside, fluffy inside, and generously coated with sesame seeds. Like other La Bagel Delight's, the bagel is a bit taller than other places so you get a really generous amount of carbs and a sometimes difficult sandwich to eat. The bacon was crisp, the American cheese warm and oozy, and the avocado green and fresh. All tasty, well executed deliciousness, but not a bagel to write home about. The coffee, light and sweet, was standard deli level coffee and not too heavy handed on the milk or sugar. Everything was affordable, service was average, and the tables are clean. Come here for lunch on occasion since it's opened up a few months ago as it's near where I work and need a change from my normal lunch spots. Nice and clean inside with ample seating. Price-wise, not the cheapest place in Clinton Hill to get a sandwich and a tad higher than what I like to spend on lunch, but not the most expensive either. I've tried both the Cubano hero and the Italian Chicken hero, which were both tasty and a good size so it felt worth the $6.99. 3.5 stars, but I'll give them 4 for the benefit of the doubt and will update later when I get more chances to visit. Can't comment on the bagels, but will try them for breakfast one day. Hard to compete with Bergen Bagel, but they seem to have a good selection of cream cheeses. read more

There's absolutely no beautiful golden color and crisp outside that is indicative of a real New York bagel, in fact they're more like giant hard rolls than they are bagels. I was generous with the two stars because the staff is very nice and attentive and the cream cheeses are actually really good, but the bagels are awful (picture included), it's expensive for what it is, and the baked goods are actually made elsewhere (though the lemon bars are quite good). There are a millions bagel shops in New York, each neighborhood has their own. My bagel shop is Myrtle Bagel. The bagels are fantastic, everything you want in a New York bagel. The coffee is my favorite, it's a great price and they have hazelnut coffee and not the syrup kind. But the real reason I love Myrtle Bagel is the staff. I come in 2-3 times a week and they know me and my order and are friendly and kind, it doesn't matter if the line is out the door, they always know how to make me feel valued and I love supporting a local business where I feel like part of the community. Especially when it's coffee, it's setting the tone for my day. :) read more

I have been ordering from them for a while now and it has certainly gone down hill. I live in the neighborhood and work on the corner of Myrtle and Vanderbilt (so like 30 steps away) and when I order delivery, there are issues 90% of the time. I often have to call and check up on my order: things will be missing, won't be on time, etc. I order delivery because I don't have time to walk out and pick it up but I thought maybe this would be faster... Today, I made an order at 11:30am for pick up (to be ready at 11:45am-11:55am). When I arrived to pick up my order at 12pm (to be sure it would be ready!), it was not ready. They did not have sun dried tomato cream cheese, which I completely understand. They could have called me and offered me an alternative? The girl at the front proceeded to hand mix cream cheese and whole sun dried tomatoes in a tub in front of me :/ Although I appreciate the effort, if I'm already standing right there, why not just let me know the SDT is out and offer me something different that is already made? I'm already waiting... I would have been happy to choose something else than have this unblended mess. The situation was made worse when I told said girl at the register, that I wish someone had contacted me and her answer was "I wasn't here". Ok, but this is a business. Do better, as a team! I personally always preferred their bagels vs Bergen Bagels because Myrtle's has a softer texture. Service was absolutely terrible i called to place a order they did not ask for name or phone number and when i show up their they say they do not have such a order i try and confirm with my order and phone number and they were clueless and said they have no order and it was the wrong place, until i call again to double check and they say they have my order and it was the right place. I am writing the same review as I did on google. I don't normally write reviews but today, the customer service was mediocre. I made the mistake by ordering the "lox spectacular" instead of the "lox ruby red spectacular" by mistake. when I notice this, I called the store back and told them that I ordered the lox spectacular and wanted to know if I can bring it back. I never yelled or caught an attitude with them or anything, I knew it was my fault. so when I showed up, the black girl who I normally see when she takes people's orders, was pretty stingy and had a childish attitude behavior about it. All I ask for the correct order and I never accused them of anything knowing it was my fault, but her attitude was a bit off. Customer service should be 100% on point. So when the girl hands me my order, she said a smart remark saying "next time say lox ruby red spectacular not lox spectacular" with a smirk on her face, as if I don't know what the difference is. Let me remind you I always order the lox ruby red bagel, and I normally see the same girl. But the way she handle the situation today was rude. she even went to go on and laugh with her coworkers in the back as if I can't hear see what they are saying. I am a regular customer to this bagel shop. I have been going here for 2 years now, I will think twice about coming here ever again if customer service is not up to par. read more

Used to be my fav bagel place. Fresh bagels and yummy cream cheese. Today I bought a lox and cream cheese bagel. The lox was slightly browning and didn't seem 100 percent fresh. The girl with dark hair who waited on me wasn't friendly at all. And another annoying factor ....the price listed says 7.50. She charged me 8. When I mentioned it she said this is the new price. If you are going to raise your price ...fine ...but take the time to change your board to reflect it. The bagel tasted slightly stale too. The cream cheese is slathered on heavily and what makes this place even more of a gem? 3.76$ is the cost of my delicious bagel with flavored cream cheese. They sell more than just bagels. They sell deli items using all boars head meats and delicious bakery items .. like b/w cookies and cupcakes and brownie bars .. they have an extensive coffee menu. Delicious by the way..
