After a very disappointing Sunday morning start with no means of conveyance caused by MTA NYC Transit's weekend route changes for planned work, I turned around and headed home abscond without a one day city getaway adventure. In extreme tears and hunger of my travels I decided for one garlic bagel with lox spread cream cheese $5.72. Customer service is nonexistent as the order line and pick-up line is chaotic and the staff stands at the counter without any greeting or the standard "how may I help you?" I was in a very melancholy and despondent mood and standing without a welcoming greeting made my morning worse. The lox spread cream cheese is very pink with very minimal salmon. The lox spread was awful whom NYC Mayor Adams' food offering of bagels to the NYC high influx migrant crisis who would surely refuse. This bagel shop does not carry actual salmon per se. The bagel was very chewy and the exterior was hard. I did not taste any garlic flavor. The atmospheric conditions are dark, stolid with minimal seating. Price is reasonable. read more

Needed to grab some bagels early morning before work and stopped by Pio Bagels. I was worried the line was going to be long, but it actually moved very fast and I was in and out within 5 minutes. I ordered the Egg and Scallion Cream Cheese on a Toasted Jalapeno Bagel and it was very okay. The egg wasn't very fluffy and the bagel itself was kind of hard. I will say that I appreciate the scallion cream cheese though as it was extremely melty with large chunks of scallion, although I will have to say that it was laid on less thick than other bagel places. I think the most staggering part of this bagel was that it was almost $8 whereas other places it's usually around $5. I will say that if you order online apparently you get a 5% off. Luckily for me, Pio's was very close to where I was staying and they had the exact combo: everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. Looking for breakfast that was a local spot - a simple SEC bagel. Bagel was great! Sausage however was links, not a patty. Only one thin slice of cheese and not melted. The Hot Chocolate seems like they poured warm milk in a cup, dumped the chocolate mix in, and handed it to me doing nothing else (no stirring, no mixing, etc). I needed the breakfast so it was OK, but maybe Starbucks would have been fine as well. It makes me sad to write this review as I've been a customer for the last 2.5 years or so, but the quality of product and service at Pio has been progressively on the decline. From incorrect price charging (prices of basics like bagels seem to vary depending on who's working the register), to cross-contaminated cream cheese (think: mixture of a sweet raisin cream cheese with scallion onion, due to using dirty scoops = disgusting tasting .. see photo) it's been tough to continue to order from Pio and trust that they'll get my food made correctly. It's unfortunate that the quality of food / service has gone down, since the staff is friendly and I believe they want to provide good food, but there's not enough attention to detail when so many mistakes constantly happen, so I hope they can fix whatever has been happening lately. The only thing I can recommend is purchasing plain bagels, bagged, to go. I would not trust any of the staff to be able to assemble a sandwich or toast w/ cream cheese without making a mistake as it's happened dozens of times to us--usually by the time we are home to eat it's too much trouble to go back to complain and try to get a $3 refund, so for now we'll just have to look for a new morning bagel spot. read more

First time at Pio bagel and I really enjoyed my meal. The bagels are exactly like I prefer them- crisp on the outside and moist in the middle. They had a nice selection of bagels and cream cheese blends including avocado and bacon cheddar. I tried the chorizo breakfast bagel which was flavorful (from the chorizo) but a bit dry. If I order again I would try it with some cream cheese on the side. We also ordered a few of the cookies which were very pretty but drier than we expected. Maybe they are meant to be dipped in tea or coffee??? My husband ordered the Rachel Rachel sandwich and said it was also dry and the serving of meat was way smaller than expected. I had these guys listed on one of my food places to try while venturing around in Brooklyn. Thank you Yelp for helping me find some places to try/venture to for my first trip out here in Brooklyn! When it came time to check out a NY bagel spot, I decided to give this place a shot. My husband and I had the morning to spend some time and venture out before he was summoned for a wedding (and because he was in the wedding party). Pio bagel was not bad - at least my order wasn't. My husband ordered their Chorizo egg and cheese sandwich special and I got their Lox Supreme special (obviously choice to select for a first-timer). They were quick to getting our orders in and checking out. They do have limited seatings in the place, so be aware of that. Um...other than that, everything else was pretty good. I stopped at Pio on my way from a hotel to another hotel, deciding that I must have a NY bagel while there and hoping it would be a good one. It was. I chose a Lox Supreme on everything bagel, and it came loaded thick with cream cheese, plenty of smoky lox, capers and red onion. It was cut in half, and wrapped up well. It was so good. And worth the almost $10. I pondered coffee, but saw that no one else in the semi crowded small shop ordered any, and most had a cup in hand from somewhere else. So I have to think it's known to not be good. I'd love to try more of the cream cheese flavors and bagels, which if the sign is to believed, are made fresh in house. These are good, and I really enjoyed it. But.... it tasted a lot like what I get at various places at home, so I may just not understand the hype enough of the famed NY Bagel.
