The bagel is crispy, the lox is super fresh. But I do wish they added more lox, considering the $17 price tag. The addition of the scallion cream cheese alongside tomato, onions, and capers tied everything together. I also got the freshly squeeze lemonade which was actually really yummy. More tarte than sweet There was a little bit of a line but it moved pretty quickly

I really want to give this a 5 star but the bagel was ok. But I will say that the smoked Salomon was super fresh and soft. They also gave a good amount of goat cheese spread. Wait was around 45 mins and make sure to grab a ticket..ALWAYS GRAB A TICKET at these popular eateries or else you will not get served..Overall this is 4.5 but had to give it a 4. I'd still recommend this spot.

Good people work here. Good people making Good food. What more do you want. Spacious, famous spot serving up NY classics like Bagels and Lox, Matzah Ball soup and Latkas. I opted for the Horse Raddish Spread to give it some kick and was happy with the outcome. Bagel was toasted, but still soft and everything tasted fresh. Lots of seating inside if you want to eat as the store is quite large. Ended up taking home some Rugalech as well. The staff were super genial and approachable. 4th Generation family run business. You can't go wrong here. Prices aren't the cheapest but despite being "only" a bagel, this is the best in the biz and the biz is competitive in this town

My fav bagel in New York!! Tried based on the great reviews and it did not disappoint. I let the lady at the counter guide me and she recommended the lox on a toasted everything bagel. I chose scallion cream cheese and added onion and capers. It was SO good. Yes, $18 is A LOT for a bagel but they do put a lot of fish on the bagel so it's essentially a whole meal.

2026 New York. Bagel and schmear. Third (?) visit. Super Heebster $19.00 Whitefish and Baked Salmon Salad, Horseradish Dill Cream Cheese, and Wasabi Roe Overall, always great. "As good as it gets."

Absolutely loved the sandwiches here. Would 100% go back and ca say it's one of my favorites in the city. In particular the have a smoked tuna sandwich with horseradish and wasabi roe which was absolutely delicious. Classic lox was great as well but the smoke tuna was amazing. Additionally, they have a pretzel bagel which ive never seen and was great with the fancy delancey sandwich. Service was extremely slow on Monday afternoon and the line took forever but it was worth it. Great vibes and old school feel.

I love I love I love. I'm not even exaggerating when I say this bagel had me emotional like actual teary-eyed on the bus afterward because it was THAT good. I ordered the classic lox bagel and wow... genuinely well worth the $20. The bagel was soft without being too chewy, and the lox was silky, rich, and tasted insanely high quality. Just really beautiful smoked fish done right. You can tell they respect the ingredients, and honestly it shows in every bite. I would crave this again immediately. If you love smoked fish, you probably already know this place. And if you don't... prepare to become a little dramatic about a bagel like I did. Next time I might just get the fish and assemble it myself with my own bagels because that's truly the star of the show lol Humble, classic, and weirdly emotional in the best possible way ever.

Yelp Review 2026 #8: I love lox and bagels. This Russ & Daughters location was within walking distance from my hotel and they open somewhat early. They have a cafe at a different location but I heard it gets busy. All I want is food and don't need vibes in the morning. It's a takeout spot. It wasn't busy when I came here. The best part is I was able to place my order online and just go to the pick-up counter making it even quicker and more convenient. They have pickled herring, canned fish, different kinds of salmon, a variety of cream cheese and spreads, smoked fish, roe/ caviar, babka, bagels, olives, latkes, fried fruits, jams, pickled vegetables, cookies, chocolates, candies, etc. And that's what ate up most of my time. I may have gotten my food quick but getting distracted with the fun stuff they have and checking out everything in the store made me stay a bit longer. I got my lox and bagels and it was delicious. The bagel had a nice chew - the perfect New York bagel and the lox was absolutely smoky and tasty that's balanced by a nice schmear of cream cheese, tartness and saltiness of the capers, and little crunch and zing from the onions. You can't get this anywhere else!

Whole wheat everything bagel with scallion cream cheese

Bagel is better than your average nyc bagel, but nothing to rave about to be honest. $5.99 for a whole wheat bagel with scallion cream cheese. They say it's "fresh" but it's 8:39am and the place opened at 8 and my bagel is hard so I'm not really buying it. I walked in at 7:55am and was told "we don't open til 8". I assumed the door would be locked if they were closed ‍

A NYC classic ! Definitely stop by if you're in the area. Service is fast and orders are taken efficiently. You may have to hover over some diners to secure a spot to eat, but for the most part, people are mindful and won't linger at the tables due to crowds. It's a busy, bustling shop, so don't expect a quiet meal - just delicious food!

Best quality salmon I've ever had on a bagel, a hefty amount too. Gotta love the capers, tomato, onions, and cream cheese with it too. I love my bagels toasted, but I wish I hadn't for this one--the toasted bagel was really hard to bite, you had to really rip it off. It's a big bagel, would share next time. Overall, I understand the hype. Would love to come back to try the scallion cream cheese with salmon lox not toasted next time.

Bagel and Lox $17

WHEN: Mon @9am Arrived at the Cafe location originally but did not feel like waiting a half an hour to be seated. So we decided it was okay to order from the deli shop and I eat it while walking. When we got there, there was a couple of folks ahead of us. It was about 10 minutes until our number was called. Here's what we ordered: CLASSIC BAGEL & LOX - $17 Bagel - Everything But Cream Cheese - Scallions So...to be honest, I don't see the big deal with New York bagels. Don't get me wrong, this bagel sandwich was really good! There's a generous amount of cream cheese and the salmon was cut thin. But I'm not tasting the difference in the actual bagel from what I have back in California. We should have added roe to it perhaps. All in all, I'm just glad we didn't wait in a long line for this and I really enjoyed it.

Aparna B.

I have never had a bad bagel in NYC and this didn't disappoint either. Got down there super early and there was still a line and wait. Take a number and wait your turn! Nice big chewy bagels and you can get so many fixings on top. They have vegan cream cheese available too. Plus coffee and chocolate and baked goods. Super friendly staff and once we ordered it was quick! I got a plain toasted bagel with scallion cream cheese, onions, tomato, capers: delicious! There's no searing inside but there are two benches outside so we ate outside.

When we got our food, my friend's salmon was cooked as ordered. My sandwich was a pretty decent size. It was topped with a red cabbage slaw and Thousand lsland dressing. The fries were perfectly salted and crispy. The brisket was tender even though it was cut a decent thickness. The slaw complimented the sandwich well. The 66 Pilsner was pretty good. The seats were weird though. They were tall enough where you can't reach the ground, yet the depth and slight incline of the bench left me feeling that I was going to slide out of the seat. We ordered a bucket of chicken tenders with fries along with Mac and cheese. The food was average at best and was lacking seasoning / flavor. The chicken tenders were more like sliced chicken...they were thin pieces - and they needed salt. The Mac and cheese was also lacking salt. With the Mac and cheese, there was something missing along with the salt, but I couldn't place what was missing - I wasn't a fan. The restaurant itself is a fun place. They gave games, good music and there's some good people watching. The place wasn't bad - it just didn't wow me at all.

It was a full afternoon of food and drinks, and the kind of event where a lot of moving pieces have to come together for it to actually work. JP was the reason it worked. What stood out most wasn't the drinks. It was the kids. There were a lot of them, running around, excited, in the middle of everything. JP knew every single one of them by name before the afternoon was half over. Not in a performative way. He just made a point to learn who they were and made them feel like they belonged there as much as anyone else. He was checking in on them, getting them what they needed, keeping them engaged. Parents noticed. Everyone noticed. Beyond the kids, he was everywhere. Anticipating what people needed before they asked. Moving fast without ever seeming rushed. Making sure nobody was waiting, nobody was forgotten, and everybody was having a good time. The food, the drinks, the whole flow of the afternoon, it all ran smoothly because JP was paying attention to all of it. My sister-in-law's celebration was exactly what it was supposed to be. We arrived on a Saturday the place was absolutely packed but we were seated within about 5 minutes. We were seated right near the smokers and it was so cool to watch them prepare each dish. The presentation here is phenomenal as is the quality of all the meat here. A fresh salad with oil was brought complimentary to the table and it was delicious. We ordered the Buffalo smoked chicken wings and Baba-Ghanoj for appetizers. The chicken wings were so tender that as you picked them up the meat literally fell off the bone! The sauce was subtle but had a nice Buffalo kick at the end. The baba-ghanoj was served cold and was perfect with a little sprinkle of salt. The fresh pitas paired perfectly with it. I'm glad I did my research on this spot as everyone recommended the fresh mint lemonade. Wow amazing and refreshing I love that it came out as a slushy like consistency. I could easily drink them all day and they're probably amazing to eat outside in the warmer months and enjoy. We each ordered the meat platters in 1lb portions which are served with fresh smoked rice that is so good and filling. I wanted the beef shank but sadly they were out and ordered the smoked beef short rib. They served everything on a platter for us which the presentation I must say is outstanding . My boyfriend ordered the smoked brisket and it was so tender and flavorful he kept saying "it's terrible you won't like it because he didn't want to share it at all LOL". We had no room for dessert but I cannot wait to return for our next dinner date night! I would definitely give it 4/5 stars. Nothing was terrible the only complaints I had is once we were seated and our order was taken our server asked if we want appetizers first which we said yes and everything came out at once. Which is fine not terrible just our table was packed and hard to eat. Additionally once our food came out it was hard to get anyone's attention for more drinks but it was no too much of an issue that it ruined the night as they were definitely way too busy and seemed to be short staffed. I definitely want to return and check out the rest of their menu. I highly recommend making the trip to Kanoon!

As many reviewers mentioned, no one bothered to acknowledge us when we arrived, so I flagged down a waitress who said we could sit whenever we want. We chose to sit in the airier covered outdoor area (which isn't exposed to the elements so is perfectly temperate even in cold weather). There were no instructions on how to order either - this seems like a basic customer service fail: is it that hard to slap up signage explaining 1-2-3, or for someone (anyone!) to greet you and ask if this is your first time here and walk you through the process? Anyway, I'm glad I read the reviews and checked out what we wanted to order beforehand, and asked questions at the cashier. Sure, it's not that hard, but one really shouldn't have to actively track down multiple staff for directions on where to go or how to order at a restaurant. The deal is: decide which meat(s) you want from the poster (there is no menu), place your order (sold by the pound) with the cashier, pay, go to your table, and a server will bring the food to you when it's ready. The meat is (at current writing) $45/lb with unlimited sides and soft drinks. We ordered 1 lb each of beef brisket and lamb shank (1 lb = 2 shanks), which was the perfect amount of food for us 2 hungry adults, 2 teens of modest appetite, and a toddler of negligible appetite. The meat is simply seasoned (Arab bbq style) and came out lukewarm, but is off-the-bone tender and we enjoyed them with the variety of sauces. There are four types of sides: cucumber & tomato salad (good), spring mix, saffron rice (fine but my toddler loved this), and mashed potatoes (bland). It is a well-balanced meal, not too heavy. The chefs are friendly and we watched one film a demo almost certainly for social media. He even let us taste some of what he was seasoning, though there were no pyrotechnics as I had hoped from seeing some of the reels. The service wasn't bad - not terribly proactive but not non-existent either, and we always received what we requested. They could do better with customer guidance, but now that I know what's up I'd come back for the food and would like to try some other meats next time. Meat Moot has many franchises across the Middle East and Turkey, and NJ is one of only 3 locations in the US (the other 2 being in the Midwest). Street parking only.
