These bagels really are top notch. The cream cheeses are so good the chipotle bacon was amazing. The French toast bagel was so good. Sometimes we try sweet bagels they just don't hit and you wish you had gotten another savory but this place does the sweet super well. We ordered a scone and they threw it in for free. Very nice, but it was the driest most plain scone I've ever had. I think it was a couple days old and they were being nice. read more

Great NY bagels. Got an onion bagel with cream cheese and an onion bagel with cream cheese and lox to go. Authentic good taste and texture. The bagels are more bulbous than I'm used to; spherical between a baseball and softball in size but excellent nonetheless. If I were topping it myself, I'd cut it into 3 or even 4 slices. After a few days of ordering that godlike bagel and schmear, I was truly feeling like a New Yorker at this point. Day 3 of having bagels till I say enough is enough! Once it was our turn to order, I finally got a taste of what a real New Yorker is like. So basically you need to have your ENTIRE order taken in the beginning, no changes, no additions if you need to add something you gotta go back into the ordering line to have the guy revise your ticket, so that means no coffee at the cash register, you gotta order everything up front. So that was a bit of a hassle but I mean welcome to the beautiful US OF A, where some people are cool and some take their jobs WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. Now that we got that cleared out of the way. Onto the bagel, you already should know by now. Toasted everything bagel, smoked salmon, capers, scallion cream cheese, tomato and onions to seal the deal. And just a heads up, this is a massive bagel. It's YUGE! Out of all the bagels I had, this one was a football. I mean massive. Super healthy portion of fillings and the flavor top tier! Love, bite after bite. Also I can't leave out their epic cream cheese options. The most beautiful display of cream cheese you will ever see. Bravo Tompkins. You guys did well. Very French toast-esque and lowkey wish I had gotten a plain French toast bagel instead of the plain bagel with pb&nutella AND triple berry cream cheese (my take on pb&j). Line moves fast, they have a very streamlined system. My bagel was good, tons of cream cheese which feels like the norm in NY. 1/4 of it ended up smeared on the parchment because I can't eat that much cream cheese. I've already had the Pumpernickel Everything Bagel and Espresso Cream Cheese. Today I am having a Sourdough Bagel that I took home for breakfast. I saved it in the freezer. Today I toasted it and added cream cheese. It's so delicious moist inside and a light crunch outside! Tompkins Square Bagel is one of the friendliest and most efficient bagel shops I've ever visited! The employees are knowledgeable and professional too. As for the bagels and cream cheese I thought I died and went to heaven. They have lots of great combinations and such a fresh delicious bagels. They have a crazy amount of unique cream cheese flavor which can be a little overwhelming but it's super fun to be able to try so many new things! Service is fairly quick. Tompkins Square Bagels is popular for good reason. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon, there was a line out the door. It went by pretty quickly until I realized that the line stretched even further inside the shop. I ended up waiting half an hour until I reached the cash register to pay for my bagel. The good thing is that your bagel is all packed and ready for you by the time you get to the register because they have people taking down your order while you're in line, so they're already preparing your bagels. This was a smart logistical move, which I appreciated. I ended up adding an extra bagel order when I was paying, but I didn't have to wait since it was a simple order with no cooking nor toasting. Since it's located near Tompkins Square Park, many people walk over to enjoy their bagels there. I ordered one Bacon, Egg & Cheese on French Toast Bagel ($10) and one Bacon Scallion Cream Cheese on Everything Bagel ($6). The bagels are so fluffy and chewy on the inside but crispy and well flavored on the outside. There are huge chunks of bacon and scallions on the cream cheese, which gave it a nice texture to the smooth cream cheese. What really won me over here is the BEC on French toast bagel --it's the perfect combination of a sweet and savory breakfast bagel. I loved everything about this from the melty cheese, fluffy eggs, crunchy bacon, and cinnamon swirls inside the bagel. Trust me, get this combo. Update: the owner reached out and was incredibly professional in response to my experience. I added another star simply because of said prompt response. The only reason there are 2 stars, is for the hardworking staff making the sandwiches. As for the folks you actually interact with.... zero stars if it was possible. The bagels here are on the smaller size, but sometimes that's a good thing when you really don't feel like finishing the monstrosity of a bagel from some other spots. My former coworker wanted to meet up on my last Saturday morning of my NYC trip. I said I wanted bagels. He said it had to be Tompkins Square Bagels. We get inside and I see how far back inside the line goes--and I get it. This was a good bagel. They have an insane menu of different bagels and schmears, as well as other sandwiches and breakfast items that don't pertain to bagels. I enjoyed the eastern nova smoked fish on an everything bagel with cheddar jalapeño schmear. It was pricey but they didn't scrimp on the lox and it was good lox! Yes. Just yes. Some of the beat bagels I've had in a very long time. This place is the epitome of a New York bagel. Places like this are why bagels in most states don't come close to NY. It's THAT good. I ordered a French toast bagel and got half with walnut raisin cream cheese and the other half with roasted apple cinnamon cream cheese. I was in HEAVEN. I'm still thinking about it if I'm being honest lol. The service here is great for a bagel shop. They can get pretty busy, so don't expect to get your food ASAP. First time to Tompkins Square bagels! While visiting NY my friends said this was the go to bagel shop we needed to hit for our Sunday morning recovery. Given the line, a lot of people for surely felt that way. While the line was long-I will say, they have a system down. Our orders were taken immediately and there was no dilly dallying. Upon entering-I was shooketh. When I say there are options, this is the bagel version of Willy Wonkas chocolate factory. They have every type of bagel and shmear one could possibly imagine, not to mention add one like sausages, egg, lox etc etc. As someone who is gluten free, I also have to mention I very much appreciated their gluten free bagel options. Upon getting delivered my bagel baby, I was very happy. Perfectly toasted, tasted fresh, 10/10. I only give this place 4/5 stars based on the fact it's definitely on the more expensive side for a bagel, and that there are a million amazing bagel shops in NY so the line is something which could be avoided elsewhere.
