One of the best bagels I've had in a very long time! Didn't need to be toasted because it was already warm and delicious. I so wanted an egg everything but could risk seeds in my teeth so plain egg it was. The garlic and herb cream cheese was everything. The only thing I regrets is not putting bacon on my cream cheese bagel. You walk up to the window and order with the nicest staff. Love the cute storefront they have. There's a big line out front every day but I don't think there's much worth waiting for here. This doesn't really compare to shops like Popup Bagel (by far my favorite bagel shop in NYC by the way), or even Thompkins Square Bagels. I feel like the bagels were all kind of flat and not very bready/soft at all. I'm sorry, I don't get the hype here. I came on a Wednesday morning and there was a very short line... but there was also a small crowd of folks eating and waiting...maybe like 10 people ahead of me waiting? I was quick to notice that some folks here were from the social media hype. I was not aware - I just wanted to try my first NYC bagel. The wait was ok - probably less than 10 minutes to get my food. 1st - the price is OK... roughly $18 for the classic lox. I think that is normal for NYC prices? 2nd - the bagel was not good. It was hard and chewy, but not the good kind of chewy. It tasted like it was yesterday's bagel, or something that was not made the morning of. I don't get what tastes so good about this bagel? 3rd - cream cheese and lox was delicious. Probably some of the best lox I've ever had, so I'll give you that! overall, a very filling bagel sandwich. On second thought, if it means that more of the population can appreciate a good bagel, maybe it's ok if I'm not the one having to wait. Leon's having a line this long would normally have turned me off but friends who were working all day said they were craving bagels. So Tracy to the rescue, naturally. I ordered a half dozen and a 2 half pounds of schmear. Schmear sounds like a slight spread but our reality is a crazy-fat dollop on both sides of any bagel. Don't skimp and offend me. You don't get any discounts for getting a half or whole dozen. It's $2 each regardless. The veggie cream cheese is pepper (non-spicy), carrot and celery. No garlic/onion in case anyone is sensitive! If you love an allium, get the scallion variety. The spreads are not whipped and they're pretty heavy on the tongue. It's not a right or wrong, just depends on your preference. The bagels, however.....What is going on Leon? Every flavor was so dense that we scooped out the middles. No quintessential chew either. Maybe they didn't have enough time to rise before the boiling process. Hmm, maybe this happens when small businesses get catapulted by hype and demand that they are striving to keep up with. Who knows. There could a variety of combined factors why I didn't love Leon's, but no-one could say they weren't fresh. Plus, wasting food is like "losing my religion." Queue music emoji here. For real, it's against my culture and every sensibility. Thank goodness for toasters which are the great equalizers of bagels. Or in this case, toasted middles for tomorrow. When I was leaving, I heard a customer ask "Do you have, like condiments, like ketchup or something?" The sheer self-control of the staff was astounding. They were so nice to this clueless tourist! Perfect bagel spot! I've seen these green/white bags all over the city. So glad to finally try it. I got the bacon egg and cheese on egg everything with hot sauce. Perfectly constructed sandwich. The walk up window was very clean. They had umbrellas to stand under on the sidewalk. Staff wiring the window were swiped friendly and had great energy for being in the rain. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. Honestly, I don't understand the hype, or the line down the block that we had to wait on. I have seen Leon's all-over social media and my friend and I just happened to pass by when we were hungry. My BEC was overloaded with salt and took up almost all of the bagel. The egg was dry and falling out of the ends of it. I understand it's a busy place, but I was expecting the quality to be a bit better. I will never go back. Go to Tompkins instead. read more

I kept hearing people rave about Leon's Bagels, so of course I had to check it out while I was in New York and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I'd honestly put it up there as one of the best bagels I've ever had. I ordered the egg, bacon, and cheese, and wow... just perfect. The bagel itself had that ideal balance crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside and the sandwich was stacked just right. Nothing greasy, nothing falling apart, just really well done. It was so good that I actually went back the very next day and even grabbed a few extra to take home with me. The vibe of the place is pretty chill too. It's simple, quick, and you can tell they focus on doing one thing really, really well. Even with a bit of a line, it moved fast, and the staff was friendly. They also have cool merchandise. Mini shops in New York have long lines that blocked the sidewalks but they have a nice set up where the line is split and you wait on either side of the sidewalk until it's your turn. I had never had a bagel except from Panera and when they heard that they all went "aghhhhhhhh" and they were right it was so much better. I do wish you could order a half bagel because it was very large and I could not finish at all. This will be a must stop in NY and totally worth all of the hype read more

New York is known for its bagels. It's the water that makes them taste just a bit different than any other state. This one was no different than what we are used to. An everything bagel to go. It was large and chewy. There was a small sit down stall across from the place where most were enjoying their bagels and beverage. There was another stall across the street and we chose to sit there, people watch and enjoy the bagel. Try not to drive here, it's incredibly congested. Flew into NYC early and my first thought was, let's go to Leon's Bagels! Little hole in the wall place that has delicious bagels and spread. We started our day trip in NY this past weekend with coffee and bagels. For the bagels we came to Leon's which was a 4 minute walk from Park at KIMS coffee shop. Leon's Bagels are probably one of the most tasty bagels here in NYC! Top three for sure. I am so glad I found this place one day while just walking around. The bagel I usually get is a sesame with scallion cream cheese. The cream cheese also tastes wonderful. Not too much or too little scallions in it. I have been interested to see how their egg sandwiches are as I have seen people eat it and they look amazing! There is no where to sit inside for these bagel locations. If it is nice out they do have some benches outside and people have stood around to enjoy their bagels. But if it's bad weather you may just want to take it home and enjoy it there. This is a bagel place I highly recommend! To locals and tourists. Get there early too as lines seem to always form here! I found that these didn't stand out too much vs other bagel shops I went to and found that the day I went the bagels were more doughy and dense than I wanted them to be. This was the third of three bagel spots we tried while in NYC and are we happy we did. My daughter is a bagel freak and made sure we hit this shop. Simple little location that looks like a bagel stand which was cool. We got plain bagels toasted with cream cheese so nothing fancy but it was definitely delicious. There's no balance between a good outside crust and the inside of the bagel for the shop. I feel like it's a bit overrated given the area that it's serving.
