I stopped at Pio on my way from a hotel to another hotel, deciding that I must have a NY bagel while there and hoping it would be a good one. It was. I chose a Lox Supreme on everything bagel, and it came loaded thick with cream cheese, plenty of smoky lox, capers and red onion. It was cut in half, and wrapped up well. It was so good. And worth the almost $10. I pondered coffee, but saw that no one else in the semi crowded small shop ordered any, and most had a cup in hand from somewhere else. So I have to think it's known to not be good. I'd love to try more of the cream cheese flavors and bagels, which if the sign is to believed, are made fresh in house. These are good, and I really enjoyed it. But.... it tasted a lot like what I get at various places at home, so I may just not understand the hype enough of the famed NY Bagel. What brought me in was the amazing variety of fresh bagels and cream cheese spreads GALORE!!!!! Recently I discovered the Tofu Scallion. I'm a BIG Scallion cream cheese fan. This is a typical bagel/deli shop. Stopped in late afternoon for a dozen bagels to bring back home while visiting from out of town. The service was great, very friendly and fast. The bagels were outstanding but don't do what I did and wait until late afternoon, the selection may be limited. I was fortunate and got exactly what I wanted but I cleaned them out. My go to bagel place in this neighborhood. This is a hole in a wall place, that looks like a mixture of a bodega and a grocery store. There are some tables and chairs to sit at in the store. But it does become very loud as the lines build (bagels here are popular). The restaurant sells all kinds of bagels, poppy, everything, salted, the rainbow bagel etc. They also have a wide variety of cream cheeses to choose from. I ordered a pumpernickel bagel with scallion cream cheese. Everything went smoothly until I got to eat it. The scallion cream cheese has jalapeños is it. Everytime I go to this location, they ask me if I want my bagel toasted and I say no, cause I don't like how the cream cheese melts and I know they make the bagels fresh anyway and Everytime, they still toast it and worst part is they don't spread the cream cheese on the entire surface of the bagel and Everytime, it's such a small amount of cream cheese, I had to stop going cause I already gave them a few chances. I called in a huge order for about 9 people in my office. The guy who answered the phone was super patient as I rattled off all the specifics. I asked to pay with my card and he said no problem at all. With such a big order I expected to wait at least an hour for delivery but it was here in 30 mins. The delivery guy was super smiley and nice But the best part is when I opened the bags! Everything was neatly packed up and the drinks were secured in a carrying tray. And EVERYTHING was labeled!!!! This was my first time in Brooklyn. My friends took me to their local bagel shop. We came early on a Saturday, so there really wasn't a long line. There's a TV and some space for sitting and eating if you don't want to take it with you. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. I had it toasted and my friends did not toast their bagel. It seemed to take a lot longer for toasted, so much so that we almost thought we were forgotten. I guess it was because it wasn't that busy. We wouldn't have thought twice If there was a long line of people waiting. They also offer smoothies and coffee, but we took our bagels back to the apartment, so I didn't get one to go. I have eaten here twice in the last couple weeks. Both experiences were A-OK. The first was a delivery through grub hub. We had a breakfast sandwich and an omelet. The breakfast sandwich was not bad. The omelet was pretty good. The coffee had sugar already inside, which was disappointing, but not the end of the world. The main issue was that apparently the grub hub payment hadn't gone through, so I had to call and pay over the phone. The hassle was really based around the store having no record of the order at all. The person on the phone seemed surprised that his delivery person was at my door. Either way, we figured it out. Then a few days later, I went to the store to pick up bagels. There were 4 or 5 employees running around, but none seemed be taking orders from the two of us in line. We must have waited 10-15 minutes. The bagels themselves are fine. Like most NY bagels, they are better than average in the bagel world, but they don't stand out in the NY scene (in my opinion). I called Joey over at Pio bagels for a 3 foot American, Italian and Chicken Cutlet with mozz and peppers... to say I was impressed, I was blown away by the quality and freshness of everything. The bread was fresh, soft and perfect... the cold cuts thi boy sliced and had the perfect amount - not your typical weighed portions... and the price was incomparable... Solid 4 stars for food but service is reaalllly lacking here. I'd say that our order is fully correct maybe 50% of the time that we go there. They have a good variety of cream cheeses: jalapeño, avocado, strawberry, lox spread, sun dried tomato, etc. The staff is pretty friendly as well. Forgive me, I'm a Western New Yorker (we don't do bagels). On a recent trip to Brooklyn I decided that I just needed a Bagel. I looked at the usual spots hyped up on SM but when I saw one of those rainbow bagels through the Pio window (and the fact it was right by my hotel) I decided to give them a try. I was highly impressed. All the bagels and cream cheeses are fresh, I went with the rainbow color (total tourist move) and chive cream cheese and my partner went with the multi grain and garlic onion cream cheese. However, there were probably a dozen different types of bagels and two dozen types of cream cheese available. Both Bagels were fresh and tasty. I think we only spent $12 for two, so pretty affordable as well. When I'm in Brooklyn next I will definitely make a stop here. read more

Ordered a plain bagel toasted with NOTHING on it and it was 3 dollars. I see the employee ringing up the bagel and I see a 50 cent charge separately. I asked what is the 50 cents for and they explain it was because I got my bagel toasted. Wasn't even annoyed at the fact that I paid 3 dollars for a bagel with nothing on it but it's principle that this store is charging people 50 cents on top of their unreasonable prices to toast things. I spoke with the manager cause I just wanted to understand the reasoning as to WHY they are charging customers extra to toast something, manager tells me that the extra charge is because the toaster uses electricity, that if they use the microwave it's no extra charge. (Which makes no sense cause a microwave uses more electricity) their prices are already insane, and it's so sad seeing businesses taking advantage of their customers and this business is definitely one of them. Choosing to go down the block to another bagel shop who doesn't take advantage of their customers and not charge extra money to toast a bagel. read more
