My favorites here is the egg everything bagel which has the perfect taste, texture, and chew. The seasoning on it is so tasty and compliments the cream cheese and lox perfectly. While visiting Brooklyn, we had breakfast from here. Ordered on the computer and then picked up and took them back to the home of relatives. Ordering was super simple and you can do it on-line. The store was just a couple of blocks walk and when we arrived, there was a crowd standing around. This isn't a go-in and sit down type of place...it's a pick-up place where you can order right there or again call or order on-line. There is nothing like NY Bagels...not sure what it is (locals say it's the water!). These bagels didn't disappoint. I had a sesame bagel with plain cream cheese, and you don't need to double the cheese because the regular portion is perfect! I also had my bagel toasted. Fantastic cheese pulls. Double seasoning. Lots of egg. A chewy bagel. Greenberg's was definitely a solid bagel on my NY bagel hunt. I love the retro feel of their walk up shop. Nostalgic colors with the name simply displayed across their over hang. This bagel is not for the faint of heart. It is thick, it is big, it is a solid bagel. A great crust accompanies the garlic, sesame, and salt sprinkled across both sides. But, the inside? Soft, fluffy. This is an authentic New york bagel experience. An institution for many, just a one morning stand me, unfortunately. The critiques? For personal preference the bacon was a bit crispy for me, but not a huge deal. Also, as pictured. The egg did overpower a bit. But, still a fantastic BEC. A spot I'd love to visit again. I kept it simple, but they do have an innovative menu testing the limits of your traditional bagel sandwich. The food is good when they get the order right. I've got a 50% ratio of it being exactly what I want. The worst part is they charge you for every little thing....like butter or mayo...and then they forget to put it on. Also, I understand that a lot of people come here, but it's always a half hour wait for your food. Obviously you have to order ahead online, but still think it's way too long of a wait for BEC (for example). Speaking of ordering ahead, don't use the Chow Now app. You get another service fee on top of all of the other charges. Using Yelp as your ordering app is the better way to go. In the end, I still go because it is a decent breakfast on the go....if you plan that "on the go" trip properly. At the same time, it's not my "go to" preferred eatery. read more

Been here twice (first time was pretty bad but I always want to give places another try) and the second time this morning proved that Greenberg's is actually just terrible. Ordered (in person using QR code on their windows) at 9:15am. Ordered an everything bagel, lightly toasted, veggie cream cheese and a Mikes Hot Double on everything, scooped, over hard. They seemed more focused on fulfilling delivery orders and we didn't get our order until 26 minutes later. 26 minutes for 2 bagels and they were busy but not THAT busy (compared to the super busy bagel places in the city that churn out orders in a more timely fashion). On top of the super long wait, how does a bagel place not know how to toast a damn bagel? "Lightly toasted" = only half of my bagel is almost burnt while the other half is literally not toasted at all. Im assuming "Dark toast" is beyond burnt and inedible?? I've been going to Greenberg's since it opened but the real reason why it's so popular is because it's the only bagel spot in the area. The bagel and food quality has gotten much worse. The last bagel I got there was a tofu scallion bagel with lettuce, tomato, and onion. I get the same thing everytime. Tofutti cream cheese was better quality or any other vegan cream cheese you can buy at the store than this soggy sad cream cheese. The bagel was not fresh or soft, seemed like a few days old. It had no flavor and the tomato had no flavor at all which means they are buying the cheapest veggies considering the price they have. I don't bring people here anymore bc it's gotten worse. I ate half my sandwich and put it down. I could not finish it, I was so disappointed. They aren't a big place and they aren't open long so get here early enough to get the best stuff. I like the many choices. Many vegan bagels and spreads. The prices aren't too bad considering the area is trendy. A bagel is about $5 with cream cheese. They have the tofu kinds too. Also you can get a vegan bacon, egg, and cheese. I got the Pastrami Egg and Cheese sandwich $9 on an everything bagel which wasn't bad but there was only very little pastrami slices with a good amount of fat on them which I was not a fan of. Another thing I did not like was you can't really see the bagels they have and there's no menu displayed anywhere expect a QR code which you have to scan to read the menu, how about for people who don't have a smart phone or just don't have a phone at all? I know it 2021 but still. Also I don't understand how one of the people I was with ordered a bagel around 1000 am and it tased stale and definitely was not fresh. Pretty solid bagel but cost more than it's worth. The bagel's had a bit too much of a crust for my liking and you have to ask for it to be toasted. The scallion cream cheese didn't have enough scallions or flavor for that matter. The service was pretty quick and it's an easy stop on the street. Can come by for a quick trip which is nice and there is outside seating. Definitely better and cheaper can be found in Brooklyn and even in the city. But this is for Bk and I walked over 3 miles total to get it. (And would again ) Got the PEC on an egg-everything. ( that's a pastarami-egg n cheeese ). Add hashbrown, double toasted and next time I'd add s+p, ketchup, hot sauce if possible. This is not a everyday thing, more of a once a month splurge, it's pricey and definitely not healthy but f...king delicious and worth it as a reward type of S.. the Bagel itself is very good and I would also recommend buying them fresh & toasting/ making a sandwich or adding your own toppings at home, if you have that option. I've noticed a development in New York bagels. There has been a shift from an emphasis on handmade, fresh bagels, where the bagel itself shines, to sandwiches where the ingredients do most of the talking. I began to suspect this was one of these establishments when I saw the "bacon egg and cheese" writing on the walls (literally). I love a BEC as much as the next gal, however I do think that should remain in the purview of delis, on a roll, which is much more capable of staying out of the way than a good bagel could ever be. I ordered a pumpernickel with cream cheese. Perfect amount of cream cheese, and the temperature was just right. Credit where it's due. And I actually quite liked the flavor of the bagel too. Unfortunately, this bagel was far from fresh. In fact it tasted like it had been made somewhere between 12 and 24 hours ago. It had some chewiness, more than the average bloated rolls with holes in them I've been encountering, but not enough chew and pull to really cut my muster. 6.5/10 read more

I walk by this place everyday and it's PACKED. I mean it's at least 5-10 people waiting in line everyday which is alot compared to every other spot on the block. I tried this place twice just to make sure I was giving an honest review because the first time was not good at all and so I was confused as to why they had a line. Theses are my thoughts. I'm use to fresh scrambled eggs. If they replaced their egg with scrambled eggs and added some real cheese then I would have probably given it 5 stars because the bagel was AMAZING. I got a bagel with egg inside of it and I was a little hesitant, but it was delicious. Cooked just right and a little crispy. It's the egg that throws me off, it feels like those eggs you got in school for breakfast. I mean, I definitely ate the whole thing...but it has so much potential to be even better. I went for a 30 minute walk this morning on my way back, I decided I would go here and buy a toasted bagel with jelly,a coffee regular with sugar ,the only non dairy option was almond milk, to me and this is my opinion for me,almond milk does not taste good in coffee,The guy at the windows was so nice I gave him a twenty dollar bill and when he only gave me back change I was like wait a minute now,but he apologized and I laughed about it,no harm done,I had to walk back home I'm a few blocks from here,I asked did he have something I could carry my coffee in,he said would I like for him to wrap it since I'm not drinking it right now, I said yes,he wrapped the coffee for me,gave me a bigger bag to put the coffee and my bagel in it,so thoughtful,I got back to the house excited to devour my toasted bagel with butter and jelly,I opened it and it was cream cheese on the bagel with some jelly spread around the edges of the bagel.. I've been very loyal to one particular bagel spot since moving to NYC six years ago. I hate going to the same restaurant twice, but I don't hold that sentiment when it comes to bagels, mostly because I know I'll be disappointed if I try to branch out. Because of this, it took multiple mentions of Greenberg's by a few friends before I finally decided to give it a go. What instantly won me over was not necessarily the bagels themselves, but instead that I felt genuinely excited by their menu since I am always a sucker for a place that'll try something different. From adding a hash brown to a BEC to one of their several lox options or even having your sandwich served on a kouign amann (I was also hesitant about it, but was proven very wrong - it is delicious), there's always a way to keep your order fun here. All that aside, the bagels are actually really good, too. I can't necessarily speak on lines or what the in-restaurant experience is like since I've never been to the shop myself. But, I have placed several delivery orders and always have a great experience on that end, even on weekend mornings when most bagel shops are packed and have a line around the block. Sounds like weekends can get busy there, though, so delivery is a pretty good option (especially if you're like me and would have to walk past 6 other bagel shops to get there). I wouldn't necessarily say Greenberg's has become my absolute favorite bagel in NYC, but at least as far as convenience and creativity go, it is always a win for me. read more
