I am surprised I have not reviewed this place yet! This was quite honestly the very first place I ever ate at in New York City way back in 2004. I am proud to said it was an excellent baby step in what would eventually be my new obsession, trying all the best food in this city, ranging from time old traditions to new sensations. It is definitely your classic bagel and smear place and in a very Orthodox neighborhood of Breuklyn. Bagels are made fresh every day and they also have muffins in a variety of great flavors (also made fresh daily yumm). Its an in and out no fuss neighborhood staple that was so great they started popping up in other locations all around this great burrough. Awesome lox with a garlic bagel. The bagel was very good, better than some places that I am used to. I'm not sure if it is the best bagel I've ever had, it is so good that it makes me want to go searching to find out where the best bagel can be found (Maybe it is here, I don't know). The lox with cream cheese, tomato and onion were delicious. Though I think that I messed up big time by not ordering the whitefish salad. I tried a bit of my brother's, it was smokey and delicious. Best bagels I've had in this area (midwood)there fresh crispy awesome, the one thing that pisses me off about this place is that they are closed on Saturday, I get the whole day of rest thing but come on man it's freakin New York City have someone else run the place on Saturday I can only imagine how much revenue is lost, we need our bagel and coffee! Bagels for lunch are always fabulous. We decided to change things up and instead of cream cheese and lox we got everything bagels toasted with cream cheese, baked salmon and tomatoes. This was the right choice! The baked salmon was soft and the right consistency, salted to perfection. The bagel was chewy and together we got an incredible lunch. This bagel shop is kosher, no bacon or meat inside. Not the place you would want to go for traditional breakfast sandwiches but if you are open to stepping out the food is good. The place is simple at best, lots of coolers filled with drinks, like half the shop is half full of refrigerator with every kind of beverage you can possibly think of. My girlfriend got coffee and said it was half decent! This is a big compliment since she has yet to find a bagel store with coffee that doesn't taste watered down. I wouldn't recommend the pastries. So I used to be obsessed with Brooklyn Bagel.. hands down love love their tuna bagel. However, lately I went there 4 times in the last week and every single time, they can't seem to get it right. I ordered the first time a scooped out bagel, they didn't scoop it out, then I ordered a toasted bagel, they forgot to toast it, there's always something lately... not sure what's going on, but it's quite frustrating when you get home and realize it's not what you ordered. Unfortunately for me, Original Brooklyn Bagels is not in my neighborhood otherwise I'd be there all the time. I just tried them today and this was seriously the best bagel I've had in a long time. The bagel was dense and chewy, with a great crust, while still being tender. I had a toasted everything with vegetable cream cheese. The topping was evenly applied and flavorful. And the vegetables in the vegetable cream cheese were finely chopped, as is proper (come on people, it's supposed to be seasoned cream cheese not a freakin' chopped salad!). My husband got a garlic bagel with whitefish salad, onions, and tomato and he was raving about the quality and flavor (again, the onions were thinly sliced, as they should be). These are definitely classic Brooklyn bagels (a little smaller and more dense than their Long Island counterparts) and the store has your classic flavors and classic Kosher spreads--nothing fancy but seems like everything quality. We had the two bagels, an OJ, a coffee, and a pastry for under $15--considering the whitefish bagel, which is about right. I will definitely find excuses to make my way there again! read more
