Cream cheese !!

Neighbourhood staple. Fresh bagels and fresh cream cheese fresh coffee what else do you need? I love the salami bread from Mazone bakery on Henry street.

My favorite bagels and worth a trip to Brooklyn! The pretzel bagel with butter is a treat, so original. If you like heat the peppercorn bagel is great for a sandwich.

Pastrami, egg, and cheese

The bagels are great, not dense, soft, fresh, but a bit bland. Interesting menu of different lox bagels, pastrami is outstanding. However, the lox sandwiches are the priciest in the neighborhood, unjustifiably so.

Lack of lox

The service is very friendly and the bagels are fine, but the flavored cream cheeses are the worst I've ever had from a legit bagel spot. My bodega's scallion cream cheese had more scallions in it than Shelskys! I'm attaching a photo of the lox spread because there was so little lox in it I thought they'd gotten my order wrong. For $9 I should be offended by the small size of their bagels, but with the way prices are now that doesn't shock me. But Jesus Christ if you're selling lox spread for $12 a pound, put some lox in it. No seating so don't come here to spend a morning.

I was recommended by one of my coworkers to try out this bagel store, I usually order from my local bagel store but I decided to try it out. It was amazing, the was food beautiful and taste so good also the coffee. great customer service 10 out of 10

Tried out a new place since I was around the neighborhood, absolutely in love ! Since it was my first time I was unsure what to order, but thanks to the amazing recommendations and even suggesting something I would definitely love just by telling the cashier what I like or generally order in my local bagel store, she recommended a sandwich I never thought of ordering. It's like a Clementine, instead of Gravlox it was substituted with Nova lox and instead of butter I decided to go with jalapeño garlic cream cheese. Definitely loved the sandwich and will definitely make the 25 minute drive just for this sandwich Amazing customer service ! Thanks to the cashier, Maggie, for the suggestion and will definitely be coming back!

where is the beef

i have eaten bialys my adult life and have found the filling to be the most enjoyable part of the eating experience. i now live in portland, kor and had a yearning for some pastrami and a few bialys so i ordered 6 garlic and 6 onion bialys.....when they arrived i was extremely disappointed. there was literally no filling to speak of ... i wrote to shelsky's and the repied that was normal and that they match any other bialy in nyc....ha ha.... this was from peter shelsky himself.....i would share the email if you are interested. it's a shanda to be cheated out of something you love!

Scooped pretzel bagel with cream cheese

Stop by this place when I took the train to acupuncture the other day and was pleasantly surprised. Inside was very clean, and had friendly employees. The menu had quite the assortment for every taste. But when I saw they had a pretzel bagel, I had to try it. Being simple, I went for this unique variety, scooped with cream cheese. I thought about it and canceled the toasting, as the bagel was already soft (according to the guys) so I got a little bonus gift of another bagel for later in my bag, so nice! The taste was wonderful, the signature Brooklyn bagel flavor and texture. I'll check them out again on my next appointment. Thank you guys, it was great. Note: I think there is toasting or scooping fee.

Scrapple, Egg and Cheddar On toasted bagel

Video Review Here: https://youtu.be/1ND7tJdO2Fk So many unhappy reviews surprise me. I've been going to Shelsky's about 2 years now. I'd say out of the two years, I've been about 7 times. Each time I've gone, my experience was beyond pleasant. I understand that they may be a bit pricey, but I've never had an issue with it, because they've always provided me great product. Fresh, fluffy, filling, carb-y bagels. I mean, always good! I was so happy my first time going. I saw that they had scrapple on their menu, which I hadn't eaten, or even seen of, since childhood! I don't think anyone was as excited as I was to eat pig scraps on a bagel! If you taste it, you'd understand my excitement. And Shelsky's adds maple syrup to theirs! Thee best! Scrapple, with maple syrup, cheddar, a sunny side up egg, on a fresh bagel?! Girl, that's all you need! Trust! And after you try it, send me a "thank you" basket :-). I was also introduced to the Jersey pork roll at Shelsky's. More excitement over pork, I know. Don't judge. Jersey pork roll is processed pork, and when added to their bagels, with egg and cheese, you gon' be ready to tackle ya whole day! It really is delicious! Their bagels are always well done when I've gone. I KNOW bad bagels, believe me. In fact, there is a spot that I went to that I will not mention the name of, that has all this hype, but served me a brick-gel (a brick-hard bagel). Shelsky's has delivered quality bagels every time and I'll continue to vouch for them!

Best bagels in the area-very tasty, great texture. A bit pricy, but a great treat- $18 for 2 bagels with cream cheese.

They have good bagels, but make sure you check your receipt. I was charged $3 over the price listed for a sandwich.

You must have the Brussels sprouts!! I'd go back for those in a minute! I very much enjoyed my salmon dish. Lovely presentation and preparation but portion a bit small. However, the Brussels sprouts were so generous portion that even after sharing there was "take home" for us. The chocolate mousse was extraordinary! I don't even want to know the calorie count - but worth it!! My one negative was the chill of the Cabernet Yes, I know that's the trend but personally I prefer room temp especially in cold weather The restaurant owner was gracious, staff actually charming and accommodating We are recommending this place to family and friends and plan to return especially when going to BAM ENJOY!!

Walked in and was able to get a seat without reservation, but it definitely filled up by 6/7 pm. The place is dimly lit and the tables are quite small. For the food, we got their Brussel sprouts, shrimp, salmon entree and chicken entree. Our favorite were definitely the shrimp. But everything else when eaten together tasted a bit too greasy and felt monotonous in terms of flavor. Brussel sprouts were fried and held to a decent amount of oil, then the addition of tahini made it even more oily. Pan chicken we expected whole pieces of chicken but it was more like a thin chicken cutlet. The salmon came with a cauliflower puree which tasted so rich (with butter), but I couldn't finish it bc it was so rich.

I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
