Used to be my go to spot but can't justify it anymore. To pay $9 for a breakfast sandwich is pretty insane when there's thousands of bagel shops to choose from. It was my first time in NYC and you best believe "bagels" were on my To-Do list! My mama didn't raise no dummy! Anyhow, of course New York being New York you got bagels errywhere! It was Sunday and my husband and I overslept. So my brother in law and his wife got a head start on us visiting the 9/11 memorial. So we were left to our own vices to learn how to get from Time Square to the memorial via the Subway *insert scared face here*. So naturally we ended up in Brooklyn..hahahahahaa! I knew we needed off the Subway we were on when we started crossing a bridge...hahahahaa! So we hopped off so we could hop back on another going back. But first, I spot a cute bagel shop....then I see a beautiful tree lined street of Brownstones. Told my husband I needed to grab us bagels first. He spots a Starbucks across the street and in an effort to save time I tell him to go to Starbucks to grab us coffees and I'll grab the bagels. I enter this quaint shop. See a buffet of cream cheeses house in an enclosed glass display. Behind the corner against the wall hanging baskets of bagels. I choose a plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese for him and an everything bagel slathered in cream cheese for me. I asked the guy if there was a way to order my bagel without sounding like a loser tourist. His reply "you could never sound like a loser mami". Yep, tip for you kind sir because I know I sounded like a loser tourist...lol! Lemme tell you. Although it was just shy of 11AM that bagel was still chewy and flavorful and had seasoning on both top AND bottom and the slathering of that cream cheese...perfection...no skimping here! Very hit or miss. Some days the bagels are dense, moist and chewy and some days they're airy and dry as dust. Depending on who's making the sandwiches, they can be delicious or disgusting. Today's was so bad I felt compelled to write this review. Just seems like they don't care about their customers at all or are lazy or cheap or all of the above.. I had the Groupon for the dozen bagels and container of cream cheese. I didn't have any problem redeeming my Groupon and was in and out within 5 minutes. The staff was quick and precise. Third time is not a charm. Made a special trip for some bagels this weekend and this place did not even meet my lowest of my expectations. Bagel selections were limited and the available ones there were substandard; smaller, flat and some were deformed. Staff was rude and did not use glove to handle bagels. Service is at a counter and the staff was very friendly. It's basically a bakery with breakfast service, but with amazing bagels, (and other breakfast sandwich options). Excited to add this to my list of Brooklyn bagel shops! Came here around 12 on a Saturday and the line wasn't too bad when I walked in, but was almost out the door as I was leaving. Seems like a steady hum of customers and that's always a good sign. I had an everything bagel with lox spread. The bagel was SO FLUFFY. The outside is crispy but not overdone, a good amount and mix of seasoning (garlic/sesame seeds/salt), but I'm mainly in awe at how fluffy the inside was. So. Good. The bread to spread ratio was good. The lox spread was decent but I'd switch it up next time. The lox spread only had a few tiny, tiny bits of salmon, so if you're looking for a version like that then this is a good choice for you. $10 minimum for credit cards, but you can order through seamless and pick it up in store as a workaround. Or get a couple bagels *shrugs* For sure coming back! read more

A nice little shop in Brookly. It was just a block from my hotel and the subway, very easy to walk to. They have an electronic ordering system that was easy to use. The place was not too busy and the service was quick. I got an everything bagel sandwich with lox cream cheese and it was super good. I don't know why every place in New York puts twice as much cream cheese as you need, but it was delicious! I definitely recommend popping in for a quick meal. read more

This place has some of the best bagels in Brooklyn (in all of NYC really). I am unsure if it was a blessing or a curse moving so close to Brownstone. Few things you should know about BBB: *There is always a line, but this is a testament to how good their product is *They are cash only (there is a workaround of course - order online and pick up). * The sandwiches (read: bacon egg and cheese ) are OK but skip them and just get a bagel with cream cheese *the bagels are fresh, if you toast them you are a monster and we can't be friends *the staff can be a little short, but it's truly because they are so busy (see bullet point number one) *Some of the folks I know swear by the chicken salad; I'm not a fan of any chicken salad but I thought you should know that fans of the stuff think that Brownstone does it particularly well. I stumbled upon Brownstone after eating dinner at the restaurant next door. While I was waiting for the rest of my party to meet me outside, I saw the bagel shop and walked in. I ordered three bagels to go--salt, plain and sesame. 3 bagels for $4. Not bad. Let me tell you that those bagels were the best bagels I think I have EVER had. Holy crap. I could not stop eating them. Crispy exterior and just soft, doughy goodness on the inside. Chewy in a good way. OMG. My rating is strictly based on the bagels. I can't comment on the service because I was there at the end of the day when the place was empty and I was just in and out in less than 2 minutes. I wish I lived close to Brownstone so I could eat there EVERY SINGLE DAY, but I am glad I don't live close to Brownstone or I would eat there EVERY SINGLE DAY and need new pants. :-) read more

Where's the bread? There were no baked goodies upon entering that were visible. I was the first to arrive super early (approx. 15 mins.) before a Sunday brunch gathering next door at Maria's Mexican Bistro. My throat had a itch for vitamin water which the staff treats clients like a factory as there is no personalize service. I believe Brownstone Bagel & Bread Co. are owned by old school Italians with a Brooklyn flair of preparing bagels, etc. The service was pleasant when requested a business card and take-out menu. read more

Wasn't crazy about paying a $1.63 for my sesame bagel, but the quality was well worth it. It was really plump and fresh and (most importantly) delicious!. It was ample enough to get me through lunch. High boy tables inside and a lot of nice benches outside so you can sit and chill on a nice day. I'd hit it again. read more

A mess. I've had 3 deliveries. Not one time was a bagel perfect or near perfect, so I'm done. This last time, the flagels were tossed, unwrapped, in a brown bag together and (shockingly) arrived cold, negating that I paid extra to have it toasted. The extra butter I paid for had poppy and sesame seeds - as if it had been previously used. Over ripe tomatoes, under ripe cucumbers, badger sandwiches oddly cut. All of this could be overlooked if the bagels tasted and felt fresh, but they don't. read more

When I first moved into the new place I knew that Brownstone would be a problem. Who can resist freshly made bagels? Fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. I have loved every carb bomb that I have ingested from here. The only downside? **Cash only!** Ugh. I never have cash but I have 100% taken from my laundry coffers in order to cover this habit on more than one occasion. The morning staff can be a little stark, little more than a "next" or "can I help you" is offered most times, especially if there is a long line. I get that they want to move the line along but it can come off a little harsh. The guy that covers the evening hours, however, will talk to you about just about anything that comes to mind. I honestly went in there the first time and ever since he waves at me and my dog on our evening walks. It is pretty great. Other than the delicious bagels, they offer sandwiches and most deli meats. My friends SWEAR by the chicken salad (i am not a huge fan but if they get their jollies from it, who am I to judge). The egg sandwiches are pretty spot on and are pretty quick to make. And if you are getting a dozen bagels (which I have on multiple occasions), you will pay over $20 if you are getting cream cheese on the side. read more
