Oxtail dinner with brown rice and peas, plantain, and cabbage.
    Sharifah D.

Celebrating my birthday at Pigeon Peas was, without a doubt, the most beautiful and memorable dining experience I've ever had. We were a large group--8 adults, 4 children, and an infant--and from the moment we walked through the doors you are not greeted as a customer but as an essential part of the heart and soul of the establishment. The warmth, the energy, the cultural richness--it felt like home. You can feel the love the moment you step inside. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible owner, her daughter, and the extended family in the kitchen who prepared our food with so much care. Every grain of jollof rice, every perfectly fried piece of plantain, every dish--it was all made with love. The fusion of Nigerian and St. Lucian flavors is nothing short of magic. I ordered the lentil and pumpkin patties along with the Naija bowl, and my family raved about the oxtail, jollof rice, curry shrimp, and pineapple ginger drink. And then came the smoothie... turmeric, mango, banana, and black pepper--made as a birthday complement. I am not a fan of smoothies, but this one? Hands down the best I've ever had. They even played a birthday song for me, which was such a thoughtful surprise. I'm still glowing with love and gratitude a day later. Pigeon Peas has made my birthday so special, and I'll never forget it. Even though it's a long drive for me, I will absolutely be back. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my celebration so full of joy, love, and unforgettable flavors. With deepest gratitude.

Full disclosure, it's been a couple weeks so I'm not sure what we got but it was delicious and I am dying to go back. The parking lot was chaos. If you can't find parking, be patient, it'll be worth it!. It was a little pricey but also worth it. I'm also willing to go back despite all the unnecessary plastic.

I have been to this establishment 3 times and I keep forgetting to write a review. I am not from the area but I have to say this community is very lucky to have this gem!! The food is delicious and the staff is great. Both Judy and I believe the young lady was Isabel( sorry if I forgot) were nothing but professional and helpful with making selections. Reasonable prices and great portions. My fave are the Pattie's very filling! To the owners I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you are around forever!!

I was in the area on a Sunday and wanted some clean tasty food to try. I found this place (where else) on Yelp. I eat chicken and fish but have been venturing into more vegan. I wondered if this place could measure up to the hype (the grand reviews) about Caribbean flavor and being vegan. I took a chance! I ordered the vegan chicken patty and it was tasty. Just enough flavor. Temp-wise I just needed it hotter. I also ordered the vegan jerk kabobs. They are made with mushrooms. It had just the right amount of spice & flavor. Quite filling as there was a lot. It came with fries as a side. The young girl at the cash register was patient, kind and attentive. Nice little pop into spot in Bloomfield if you're looking for some hardy yet clean Caribbean food.

Wait time: 7/10 (take out at 10pm) Service: 8/10 Food: 4/10 Ambience: small, family, Caribbean Price point: 6/10 Would return: not sure/ probably not I was really hoping to like their food based on a review I saw however...... I got the oxtail and jerk chicken and Popeye juice. The oxtail was o and k. Nothing to call home about and the quantity for the amount paid was an insult. The rice and peas... well it's honestly the worst we've ever had, which pains me to say. The jerk chicken wings (which was posted as a special, yet I paid the same price as the regular jerk chicken meal ‍) was more of bbq chicken than jerk chicken. There was no jerk at all. But for bbq taste was o and k. The cabbage... it was not tasty at all. Idk what seasoning they used, but nah, definitely wasn't it. The plantains were not that great either. The best thing was the Popeye purple juice. Perhaps their vegetarian options are better.

i'm not vegan, but i have no problem transitioning diets if this what i can eat! this afro caribbean vegan fusion spot is the best. perfect for those who actually consume vegan/vegetarian diet & amazing to those who don't. i spent the first ten minutes in disbelief. i couldn't believe i wasn't eating jerk chicken, or a beef patty, or even the oxtails, and then the bbq skewers... what do you mean it's all oyster mushrooms??! a must try! even the macaroni pie was good, and we all know that's something you don't order from a Caribbean restaurant. it was creamy and "cheesy"! i still don't know how they achieved the cheese melt but they did. check them out! you won't be disappointed. i only had one comment, but its for the beyond burger- who eats those anyways?

Vegan oxtail (mushroom) with cabbage, rice and peas, and plantains. Yummy

I had the vegan oxtails. No, I am not vegan. I just wanted to try. It was DELICIOUS. I would recommend it. Flavorful and great portion size. I need to try other dishes.

    Vegan Ox Tail Meal

After looking through UberEats for a Vegan meal, I notice Vegan Ox Tail as an option for Pigeon Peas. I call in immediately to receive confirmation the menu option is correct and real. The meal travels VERY well. I eat the meal between two days. The Ox Tail really tastes like Ox Tail (even feeling so texturally). My mom even confirms the Ox Tail is good. She's questioning Vegan food ingredients more so now because of how authentic Vegan options taste as an alternative (though unique) representation-replacement of products which come from animals. Every portion of the meal tastes wonderful. Obviously, I buy the meal primarily for the Ox Tail though all parts of the meal taste dinstinctly alone as well as in combination (with every bite) very flavorful. The side salad tastes wonderful especially with the Mango Habanero.

The service was good. But I'm very critical of the food. The ambiance of the location was fine. However the food was not to my liking. I ordered the vegan oxtail. When you eat oxtail you expect a soft texture and GRAVY!!!! I did not get that and I was very disappointed. I also ordered a vegan "beef" Pattie. The texture was also lacking and the flavor for both items were missing. I know I'm vegan but it doesn't mean I don't want a good product. On top of that I spent $30 for items that I felt was sub par. Again im very disappointed

I hope you like hockey pucks. Burger was burnt to a crisp. Fries were raw. Never again. Don't advise

Very good Caribbean food. Everything I tried was delicious, made fresh & from scratch. The owners are welcoming & super hospitable, very passionate about their business. Even the music selection is curated-- nothing but good vibes at Pigeon Peas. I tried almost all the patties, and I highly recommend the regular beef & salmon patties. The crust is perfection. Loved the jerk chicken, it has a bit of sweetness to it. And the oxtail was pretty solid! Stopped by with a few friends on a Sunday and I can't wait to come back & try other menu items!

We spotted Blue Steel which had good, modern curb appeal to our hungry tummies. It looks like downtown Bloomfield is having a moment with some new condos and nicer restaurants coming in. Thanks, gentrification!? Inside has a clubby, bar vibe and we were seated at a hightop near the bar. I love a good wedge salad. I prefer the classic but I appreciate BSP's variation that has tomato, cucumbers, crispy frizzled onions, feta cheese, homemade ranch dressing, and everything sprinkle seasoning. It was generously sized and refreshing. And there's nothing but good things to say about the Detroit-style ezzo pepperoni pie, except that i wish I had a bigger stomach to eat MORE. After the salad (shared), I was only able to manage one slice, but it was a happy slice. My first time trying Detroit-style and it didn't disappoint. PS: There's a tiny, very lumpy and bumpy parking lot in the back that is very tricky to maneuver back out of. If it hadn't been for an Uber driver who got briefly trapped back in there with me, I might still be there today

There is no…read moreshortage of pizza, as they have anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 pizza restaurants using their family recipe to make some of the best pizzas in America. As the third-largest producer of tomatoes in the entire country, this key pizza-making ingredient not only sets New Jersey's classic 'tomato pies' apart from any ordinary pizza. This 10,000-square-foot, two-story establishment with a neon-lit sign on Glenwood Ave in Bloomfield asks, "Just another pizzeria?" They also house a 20-seat speakeasy that's open Thursday through Saturday called the Rab.bit Hole that can be found upstairs behind a hidden entrance. Opened in 2020, Blue Steel Pizza Company is the answer and should become obvious after looking at the menu. A reservation was easily made via Resy. My partner and I were greeted at the host station and got a regular table in the 1st-floor dining room by the pizza oven in the middle. The vibe was modern and industrial. Patrons had to use their phone flashlights to read the menu as the lighting was pretty dim. They are known for their Detroit-style pizza--a pie baked in a rectangular, traditionally blue-steel pan, the kind once used by autoworkers. It's made with a blend of mozzarella cheese and traditional Wisconsin brick cheese that melts down the side of the pie, making for a burnt, gooey, cheesy crust. It's cold-fermented for three days and is closer to sourdough. It has real flavor and an airier texture. It's like a lighter version of a Sicilian with a buttery crust. As a starter, we decided on the Chopped Salad. For our main entrée, we opted for the Jersey Tomato Pizza Pie. Portions run big enough for sharing, and we downed them with the 1911 Cider. The pizza crust was light, airy, and crispy with the right amount of fresh ingredients, making the ensemble tastefully delicious. The staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating, and our server was Adam. The price was comparable to the area. We had a wonderful experience and would recommend this place.
