The woman that claims to be the owner is a delight. She says hello every time we come in and sits us promptly while busting her booty making drinks for others that look fruity. Spent $51 with an overly generous tip for a bland fried seafood platter that includes hard, dry day old fries, and then this, with is suppose to be 2 fish tacos and "ceviche." I'm so Hangry right now. I am amazed that you are still in business after serving this low grade school lunch to paying customers. The "ceviche" was a tiny chopped salad with 2 cut up shrimp...gray jalapeños?? And no citrus. After having lunch at a "southeast asian" place that served hard noodles bowls with negative flavor I'm just cooking at home while here in Mount Pleasant, because I'm not used to eating bad food like this. Was excited to see another new place open up on 'our' side of town, so we popped down tonight, I believe their second night opened. We decided to order a myriad of menu items to get the feel of the place. We started with cocktails (just OK) and had the Tuna Poke and the Shrimp Avocado toast. Both were good, but I was excited to actually see some Asian pear in the dish description - but couldn't tell in the finished product. Same with the 'pickled shrimp' , on the Avocado Toast, kind a bland finish. Next we had the potstickers which were crisply fried on the bed of some very tasty kimchii. We also ordered the fried flounder taco, the mussels in red curry coconut milk and the Lobster fried rice Mac and Cheese. The fried flounder lay on a flour tortilla and they were the same color, it looked like it missed it's turn in the fryer (however my husband said it was good). The mussels sauce was delicious - would make an excellent soup base. We wanted to love the mac and cheese, but it needed something. My wife and walked into Pier 41 and sat at the bar for a happy hour drink and appetizer. There was only 1 other couple there so it was not busy at all. Nobody greeted us and eventually a bartender came over and dropped 2 menus in front of us without saying a word and walked away To continue a conversation with the other couple. Instead of coming back to help us or take our order she greeted another couple that walked in, took their order and gave them drinks while we were looking around for someone to serve us. Another bartender, that was just stacking cups and walking around, looked at us and decided not to help us either. In the end we walked out and went somewhere else. First of all hats off to my server..Brandi who was very pleasant. Immediately sitting down at the table and unwrapping the silverware. The napkins (my wife's and mine) has a disgusting rancid smell. (my 39 years in restaurant sanitation tells me they are washing in the back room with a home type of machine and the grease does not get fully removed....or their linen company is in somebody's house) I sent my napkin back (yes the one with the hole ) and received a SLIGHTLY less potent one as replacement....but still not fresh smelling I ordered the catch of the day ,which bought to me 4-scallops and some noodles for a rip off price of $25. I would gladly have paid $30 or more if the plate was worth it but come on ......4 lousy scallops..get real. The miniature $7 cheese cake tasted great but was not price sized either . Most of the reviews for this place talk about the bar, drinks, how busy it gets and basically BAR MUNCHEES. This is not a white table cloth restaurant. (no extra charge for the smelly napkin with the hole ). Would i eat there again ....HELL NO.....i'll go to a more expensive restaurant where the food is better matched to the price and the value and amount of the portion better matches the price. don't get me wrong i don't mind spending for value... i resent getting ripped off Pier 41..never again read more

I was flying into Charleston from DC on Saturday to visit my folks and to pick up a new car. I had found Pier 41 through Yelp as they had an Happy Hour from 4-6 on Oysters and Champagne. My flight landed early and we went Patriots Point to see the USS Yorktown which was awesome. Anyway, onto Pier 41. My parents and I walked in at 530 and the place was already packed. Renee the manager asked if we had a reservation and unfortunately we did not, but she said I have 3 chairs at the bar, so we took them. In the span of 30 minutes my parents and I threw down 6 dozens oysters and a 1/2 lb. of shrimp. We also had the edamame and pot-stickers which were fantastic. Renee and her staff did a fantastic job. It is a small place so reservations are recommended. The next time I am in Charleston I would definitely like to try the rest of the menu. So onto the rest of the review: Ambiance-5 stars Service-5 stars Food-5 stars (even though it was happy hour) Prices-5 stars And for an added mixer: Coziness-5 stars If you love oysters, good food, a cozy atmosphere and like being treated like a customer and not a number, this is the place to go. Yum! Stopped in for a drink and appetizers with a group of friends. We tried the Edamame, Crab dip and Pot stickers. If I didn't have friends with me I would have licked each plate clean. The edamame was prepared with a combination of chili vinaigrette, fried garlic, sesame seeds and sea salt. The crab dip is served with crispy fried wontons. We came here around lunch time, and it was such a great find! The interior and music selection were on point. We sat at the bar and found the bartender to be very sweet and friendly. We started with an order of the potstickers which were really tasty. My dining partner ordered the lobster roll, which he felt was on par with ones we'd had up in New Hampshire. My husband and I had dinner here last weekend, It was our first visit to Pier 41, but it won't be our last. We had the calamari and the ceviche for starters, both were excellent! They just be paying for the 5 star reviews because the food was awful. The oysters were slimy and had a strong fishy smell and the waitress rudely told me thats just how oysters are. Not to be mean, but I honestly don't know how anyone could give this place 5 stars, especially if they had the strange concoction they call lobster fried rice mac n cheese. I made better mac n cheese when I was 9 when I experimented with boxed Kraft dinner. There were only 2 small bites of lobster, so I'm not sure what I paid for. It was a Friday night and they were out of Pinot Grigio...in Mount Pleasant?? Not everyone thinks Chardonnay is an even trade. I really hoped there would be a new regular place to go for dinner on the north end, but this was not it. My suggestion... change the menu, keep wines in stock that people drink, and do something with the noise level. read more

Ok, so raw bar seafood and Asian flair kind of had me confused BUT it's great!! You can get classic raw seafood or steamed/chilled seafood, but cooked dishes have a nice twist of Asian style flair. Was looking at this place for a while, and finally had the opportunity to try them. I didn't get a true meal however so not sure the flavor of their food. I had the boiled shrimp (cold-came over ice) and some oysters. What I had was fresh and tasted pretty good. Ordered calamari as an appetizer, it could've been cooked a little longer and it wasn't as good as the meal I ordered. The menu is limited but it has all the seafood options. I'm experiencing a bit of a conundrum on this review. Hubby and I arrived during a Friday happy hour to grab a bite. I know we looked lost, yet no one approached us. The place was packed and it was unclear whether or not we were just supposed to find a place to sit or wait to be seated. Finally, we spotted some friends at the bar who were leaving, so we snagged their seats. We waited a few minutes and finally asked for menus. The servers behind the bar were very perfunctory. Not welcoming. Just looking kind of frazzled. Never cracked a smile the whole time. Same with food servers. Each time our food was delivered, we got a "is this your food?" Just weird.
