This review is based on my wife's recent visit for lunch while driving from Charleston back to Myrtle Beach, SC. She actually said this was the best restaurants she ate in while visiting the the area. The fried fish she ordered came with 3 sides of your choice (she got krinkle fries, Mac n Cheese, and fried mushrooms) which she said they were all delicious. She said the staff was friendly and attentive, food really reasonably priced, dine in atmosphere unique and very good, menu selection great and food delicious. Long term guest. Ambiance - Consistent over the years; however, cannot make up for recent lowering of the standards Menu Items - Recently standard menu items have not been available. Side dishes - 86 on repeat visits. Clearly a new trend. Dessert options - limited. Wait Staff - Always helpful; however, not as attentive or forward thinking. No napkins or flatware. Meal - Flounder and scallops - tasty and nicely prepared. Sides limited and not enjoyable. Available Sides - Cole slaw was not eaten - tasted like it was out of the box. Cocktail sauce - Table Side - flat and no taste. Parking Lot - While the non-asphalt surface is historic - the transfer area from county road to parking lot appears to review attention. The large rocks appear to be ankle twisting. They are stable and shift under weight. These areas are better filled with small aggregate or CR 6 to provide a more stable platform as having an asphalt parking lot does not appear in the cards. read more

Dirty --Food Just Ok--Restroom a joke--Won't EVER be Back The Hush Puppies were over cooked and GREASY. The Calamari rings were the smallest ever served to us. The Fish was good. But the place was Dirty along with the soup spoons. (felt gritty). And if you looked up and saw the air duct vent and ALL THE DUST hanging from it; it's wonder it didn't drop on our food. And you might not believe this but the girl at the next table yelled look what is walking across the floor. I'll just leave that to you imagination. Think the need a few traps. (not a small one ) The bathroom (which is outside the building ) had hardly enough space to sit without hitting your head. And to pull up your pants you have to turn sideways and make sure your not standing on the toilet platform at the same time. Pity the fat person. NO JOKE And WATCH OUT for the tip rates prefigured on the check. The tip is supposed to be a certain percentage of ONLY the food . Not the Sales Tax or even the credit card surcharge amount . This place figures the tip on the entire bill cost based on credit card payment. Hands down the best seafood in town ! I'm a local here, 7th generation in fact, and we've been coming here since they opened! This week my son came home to visit. This was the one thing he wanted other than Mama's cooking, SeeWee fried seafood! He's leaving in the morning! We came for lunch. We both had delicious Lunch Seafood Platters. Our server Kerry was the best we've ever had here! The service was fast, she spaced out our apps and the food arriving perfectly !! Wonderfully shabby is how I'd call the atmosphere. Visited on a Friday evening anticipating an awesome dinner from memories of long ago but the restaurant failed to deliver. It's a bit run downed now, not the restaurant it used to be in its hey day. We were seated in the back and waited and waited for a server. Thank goodness for the hostess bringing us some hush puppies and butter. She finally arrived to take our order and was pleasant. I ordered the seafood fried platter with 3 sides and my husband ordered the grouper chunks with fried shrimp. When our plates came it was a little disappointing, shrimp were tiny! And my husbands grouper chunks were not chunks nor grouper, I believe it was whitening as they were flat pieces. We didn't complain about and just ate it. Fried okra, Mac & cheese, and red rice were delicious but our butter beans were not. Needless to say, we didn't not order dessert and got out of there. For the dollars spent at this place, it was a huge disappointment and will not be back. We only came back here hoping it had not changed from years ago. This place is quite an experience. You wouldn't know it by driving by, but the inside is like a museum of local and the food just doesn't get any better matched on by the friendly excellent local service. If you're passing by, you should plan on stopping in at least for the SheCrab Soup! read more

Before my visit, I had read a number of positive reviews of Seewee Restaurant and was looking forward to having a meal there. While the clam chowder was delicious, as was the blackened grouper, the sides were lacking in flavor. The collard greens needed more seasoning, flavor that smoked meats give greens. The sweet potato soufflé was nothing special, barely sweet with hints of cinnamon/nutmeg, I think. Since I did not go out of my way to have lunch at Seewee's, I may return when I have another appointment at RSFH. read more

What a great find while traveling! Family owned restaurant in a converted home. Service was very good. Loved the fish, soup and the hush puppies were very good and different from what I've had before. The lump crab was colder than I thought it would be and a bit overwhelming. I think I'm just used to having warm crab, so that's on me. The oysters were very large and the portion can be easily shared by a while table. I enjoyed the Sunday Mimosa. A great hole in the wall, locals only type spot. You'll find as good of fried fish here as anyone in the Charleston area. Add in the classic southern menu and you've got a winner! The hushpuppies that came with the meal were a crowd pleaser and nearly everyone in our group of 11 enjoyed their meal. My fried oysters were excellent. Perfect batter, fresh, light, and just the right bite to them. They were my favorite protein of any of the tables entries I tried. The red rice was a super flavorful winner. And the greens were solid. I was wishing for more crunch on the fried green tomato's but they were still tasty. Fried shrimp were a winner. The fried flounder was maybe the least favorite dish. Still solid but not enough to come back for. On the downside, we waited nearly an hour for our table. And upon checking in with the host, it sounded like they'd forgotten about our large group and wanted to split us between a couple tables. Ultimately the food, service, and ambiance made up for it. Late afternoon arrival and in search of a place to eat I consulted good old YELP. I'm familiar with restaurants around Bluffton and HHI but not Mt Pleasant but YELP to the rescue ! We found SeaWee and fell in hungry - glad we did! Specialty is country comfort food with plenty of fish dishes. They start you out with complimentary hush puppy's. The HP's were sweet, fried right and fresh - so good I asked for a second basket Next came the flounder platter . You can have your fish friied or blackened - I did mine blackened. Fish was delicate and well cooked- only complaint was I felt it could have had more blackening. The platter comes with 3 (yes THREE!) Sides . We love Seewee for that southern seafood dive! It's a no frills place but you'll find great food. It's way bigger than it appears with parking around, right off the highway for easy access. We've taken almost everyone when visiting us! Lunch and dinner both equally great! Usually get one of the specials, they offer great choices of friend, blackened, grilled etc. It then meets everyone's preferences. Great prices and even better desserts. All cakes/pies are made in house and you must always get dessert even if it's to go! We love having a great local place to support! Good for small or large groups! Hate to say that this is probably our last visit. We've enjoyed this place for over 20 years. Today, hushpuppies were as hard as my spouse's head. Server was super nice and tried her hand a making a couple. They used to be small and tasty. They've lost their touch, evidently. We came here for lunch on the advice of some locals and they were spot on. The place has a wonderfully authentic vibe, they are being themselves and you will leave with a far better experience than if you had chosen any of the chain competitors in the area. Just, don't. Im not sure where to even begin. Just looking for a casual place for some fried seafood. What we got was pitiful. The fried fish bites were overcooked and flavorless. She crab soup tasted canned. My crab cake was a soggy pile of mush that tasted overwhelmingly of celery. Last week's mac and cheese and bland hushpuppies were the icing on the cake. We moved down here two years ago and every time I go to McClellanville for Seafood, I passed the restaurant two Saturdays ago my wife and I went there looking for a family owned local seafood restaurant unfortunately there was a downpour and when we got there, their driveway and parking lot was just potholes and puddles it looked like the type of restaurant we were looking for when we got in. They said it'd be a half an hour wait because it was busy they sat us in 10 minutes. When we sat down, they gave us hush puppies, which were probably the best thing we ate that night. Our waitress came over and asked what we wanted for drinks. We put an order in and I try to put an appetizer order in for the fried clams. She told me one thing at a time. When she returned, I ordered the clams. I ordered the seniors shrimp platter with fried eggplant. My wife ordered the two seafood grouper bites and shrimp with three sides. The waitress did explain to us that they were shorthanded in the kitchen and would take a while. After an hour, the fried clam strips came out. They were overcooked dry and greasy. The waitress then told my wife an hour after putting an order in that they didn't have any group of cheeks so she said just the shrimp. People with the next table left because no waiter or waitress even went over to them in about 20 minutes. In the meantime, I had to go to the men's room and was told that's outside. Outside were two out houses. There was no place to wash my hands so I wondered where the employees watch hands after they go to the bathroom. When the meals came out, my fried eggplant was greasy, and the shrimp were overcooked, and I think the problem was they were cooked at a low temperature for too long in old oil. My wife's shrimp were the same way. Her vegetables she ordered were the fried sweet potatoes which were cold and greasy. Or fried mushrooms were all right but the same thing with the fried with that oil. And she ordered collards, which had no taste at all. I was looking for a local family owned Noonan restaurant to go to and I guess I'm gonna have to continue looking. read more

The food was just amazing. We showed up with a group of 8 and our server, Danielle was terrific. She just went above and beyond with recommendations and hospitality. The potato salad and the scallops were the best I had ever had in my life. Come hungry. I don't know who the musician was but the live music was top notch as well. (A good mix of 90s music on guitar and vocals.) The bathroom is outside which I was a little worried about but when I used it, it was nice and clean. I wish we lived in town. On our way back from Francis Marion Forest, we spotted a small rustic looking seafood restaurant in Awendaw, SC. We walked the door and saw that it was just as rustic on the inside as on the outside. This is a very casual restaurant that appears to be frequented by the locals when their looking for some down-home cooking. We were greeted right away and were immediately seated. The service was exceptional, and the meals were served quickly. Not only does this restaurant serve numerous seafood dishes, but they also have sandwiches and burgers. They have an extensive variety of different beers. I ordered a cheese burger and the she crab soup. The burger was huge! The soup came with a little cup of sherry to mix in the soup. This place looks a little sketchy, but their food is absolutely fabulous. Prices range from $15 - $30. For a meal. If you're up that way, I would suggest stopping in for a quick bite! read more

Visited Seewee Restaurant in Awendaw after a day of hiking. This is a cute local find that I just love. It's an older brick and wood building full of character. The tables are covered in sea scape patterns and the style is rustic decor. It is a very casual place and everyone seemed to know each other. We were greeted by our waitress and seated quickly. The menu has LOTS of local seafood selections. Oysters, crab, all kinds of grilled or fried fish, fish Po Boy sandwiches, she crab soup, burgers, salads and dessert. I ordered the She Crab Soup with a grilled shrimp salad. The She Crab Soup came with a small shot of dry sherry to add just before eating to bring out all the delicious flavors. Very sweet and creamy with chunks of delicious crab meat. The soup came with a side of the most delicious hush puppies I've ever tasted. Sooo good! The grilled shrimp salad had fresh lettuce, tomato, cucumber, zucchini and blackened, grilled shrimp with your choice of dressing. The salad was excellent. The veggies were fresh and crisp and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. The only thing to note is that the bathrooms are outside. So you have to exit the restaurant and walk around to the side of the building to access the restroom. Otherwise, it is a very quaint place with excellent food. read more

We have eaten here a few times in recent years and had an excellent meal. We decided to take our family on Saturday. It was awful. Apparently there is new full kitchen staff and there is zero coordination. We waited for a table (fine) but also waited to be served. Our food took over an hour to arrive. Our waters were not refilled. We received no update on status. When our food did arrive, some items were cold. We were used to large portions and the portions we received were all small. The bathrooms are out of order and there are porta johns in the parking lot. Some of the staff just really didn't seem to care. I would find a different option until Seewee can figure out what they are doing. Very disappointed and not in expensive either. read more

Seewee's is a classic north of Mount Pleasant. If you're coming from the south just be prepared to do a handbrake U-turn spin around on 17 to get back to the parking lot. Basically an old Roadside stand, it is quaintly decorated inside. You have to love a place that starts off with a basket of complementary hush puppies served with butter. Drinks include NeHi soda, and lots of bottled beer Most of the food is fried but very lightly fried and there's a lot of classic sides. Butter, beans, fried okra, coleslaw, and fried green tomatoes to name a few. You get three sides with each entrée. There's also a no fry option called seewee style. Hot fresh and plenty of it. Glynda and I had a very nice lunch at SeeWee Resturant just North on 17 going out of Mt. Pleasant. It is located just where your turn to go to the Bull's Island Ferry on the right and it is on the left side going North. We have wanted to stop many times but this time we did and we were not disappointed. Like going back in time which makes it a real treat. The Hush Puppie were hot and excellent and just a little sweet like I like. I had the Fried Shrimp and Glynda the Oysters all great. I had a side of steamed squash which was super fresh and hot. Our olny disappointment was they were out Key Lime Pie LOL. The outside Toliet was interesting.......... Don't miss it if you are up that way. read more

One of the reasons we rented a car was in order to stop by Seewee and it was worth it! Parking is tight; bathrooms are outdoors; inside is OG. The food is fresh and homemade, including their banana pudding. The oyster, shrimp, and fish special we had fried was so fresh and not over seasoned. Unfortunately I didn't realize that they separated their sides by fried and non, so I'll need to come back again to try this Mac and cheese and collard greens. read more
