The roll was dry, crumbly, and stale-- like it had already given up on life. The meat was gray, mushy, and clumped together in sad, gluey piles that screamed "leftover mystery beef." The cheese? A chaotic situation. Half melted, half missing, fully pointless. The extra onions were sparse at best. There was no seasoning, no structure, no attempt at balance. One third of each half had zero meat- in fact check out the picture to see they didn't even slice the bread!!! When you pull the sandwich apart, it doesn't stretch or satisfy -- it collapses into bread shards and beef paste. Truly impressive in the worst way. A cheesesteak should be hot, indulgent, and comforting. This felt rushed, careless, and borderline passive-aggressive. I've had frozen sandwiches that showed more pride in their work. Primo aims for quality everything....and it shows. Great roll, meats, and cheeses. We asked to try the tuna before ordering and (unfortunately) were told no. So we went with the classic understudy, roast beef. The mozz was SO fresh and perfectly sliced. The rolls must be made on-site. Seeds, texture, chewiness, just perfect. Best roll we've had in a long time. Our main feedback would be to (please) increase their *hot sandwich offerings. Unsure why we were told a hot roast beef was impossible (first time this has ever happened) when the stations are already set up to crank out cheesesteaks; we watched 5 cheesesteaks being made while we ate in the dining room. Oh wow, I thought I had posted a review on Primo hoagies from the first time we ate here. My New England husband loves a good grinder, but he really enjoyed Primo hoagies sub. It would be great if they would do a traditional grinder, hint, hint! At this point, we know most of the people by sight who work there and I think they recognize us as well :-) this has become our go to cheat meal. Just yesterday I got a roast beef schwartzi with extra Russian dressing, my brother-in-law got the big T, my hubby got the turkey & provolone. Oh, boy, they were delicious! Now the young man, who was there at the counter, is the same young man who has made our subs before. I told him that he was the 1st one to make my own special creation for me for the 1st time!! He remembered me because when I picked it up, he said he had never seen that done before. I told him he did a fantastic job and that it was delicious! He looked like a young man in college. I'm sorry I didn't catch his name, but he is in one of the pictures of the mini pepper poppers! My brother-in-law said he just had to let us try. They were delicious, but one I ate today had a lot of seeds in it! It was too late my mouth was burning, but boy did they taste delicious. A bit disappointed with the subs here. We went in based on other reviews and were met with kind employees but sort of poor service. Our sandwiches were stuffed with meat to the point of overflow, but we not very flavorful. Somehow we spent more than 60 dollars on 3 6 inch subs, one 9 inch sub, 2 chips and 2 drinks. Our favorite sub place we have found in Mount P! Nothing beats picking up a good sub and eating it on the beach. If you get a sub, make sure you get the seeded roll.. best part. Primo Hoagies is a great addition to the sandwich scene in Mt. Pleasant. My husband and I recently tried Primo Hoagies for a weekday lunch, and a few weeks later, I ordered to-go when I was in Mt. Pleasant running errands. The best way to find Primo Hoagies to enter from the northbound lane of Hwy 17, turn in at Jack's Cosmic Dogs or Advanced Auto Parts, then you'll see an entrance into the back parking lot. The shop has plenty of parking and feels secluded from the hustle and bustle. At first, the large menu seemed overwhelming, but the staff members who helped us, including the owners, were super patient and answered all of our questions. I love that broccoli rabe and roasted red peppers are offered as toppings. So far, I've had the Nonna's Veggie and the Italian Tuna. If you want leftovers (and the seeded bread), I recommend the Primo/medium size, but the small works if you're not super hungry or want chips and dessert. Speaking of dessert, order the dirt pudding! The shop has free wi-fi, which kept me occupied while I waited on my order, which was packaged very well and survived a trip back to West Ashley. The hoagies were clearly marked, our orders were correct, and napkins condiments were included. I don't get to Mount Pleasant too much anymore since we've moved to West Ashley, but today I found myself there all day. Well I had to eat lunch and I love an Italian hoagie. So I used Yelp to find one! The menu has several options for hoagies and I had a little trouble deciding. The owner recommended the original Italian version and I ordered one. It was excellent! I really appreciated the customer service I received, both from the owner and the employee that delivered my sandwich. Usually at this restaurant you pick up your order at the counter, but the employee saw that I had trouble walking as I am recovering from total knee replacement surgery. With so many menu choices I wanted to try one of their basic hoagies, so I ordered a classic Italian hoagie. What was delivered was a nice sized hoagie FILLED with the meats and veggies. It was good, I liked the flavor and even without any mayo or dressing, I enjoyed the flavors. Now this hoagie is thick, and requires two hands and time to eat. But the thing that I just could not get by was how hard the bread was to bite and pull off. Maybe just me, maybe just a harder roll than others? Not sure. I didn't say anything, just the way I am. I figured this is how it is suppose to be. But I'll have to make a return visit, try something else, and see if it is the same. I used to be a frequent customer at their Welsh Avenue location in Philadelphia. When I heard we were gettin a Primo's here I was ecstatic! From the authentic seeded rolls to the long hot peppers and the herr's chips this place reminds me exactly of the primos from back Home. I highly recommend anything with the name diablo in the name. Italian Diablo is my go to with the hot Italian meats, extra sharp cheese, you can add long hot pepper on that sesame seed roll. Wow the flavor is incredible I was doing a happy dance in my seat. So, I'm a little bummed with our first visit to Primo. The staff was very friendly. The place was busy. If you're in a hurry, this isn't the place to go, they make everything fresh and that's a good thing. My husband was thrilled with his Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I had a Chicken Parm. The chicken parm had potential. The chicken was flavorful. The bread was good. But the sauce and cheese ? Who knows because they were nonexistent. I'm used to Long Island, NY heros. Parms should be messy monsters of a sandwich. This was a pipsqueak of a sandwich. I didn't even need napkin. When was the last time you ate a parm without a napkin and a blob of sauce going down the front of your shirt? Will we try them again? Probably.
