Hmmm. Not sure what to think. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. I am from out of state so perhaps that has something to do with it... My husband and I ordered a cheesesteak and an italian sub to share. The sesame seed bread used for both sandwiches threw me off. It tasted like it didn't belong with either one but maybe it's just not the type of bread I'm used to having with these kind of subs? The cheesesteak felt under-stuffed with ingredients while the italian was over-stuffed. The inconsistency made the sandwiches kind of awkward to eat when sharing but they tasted good; both had fresh quality ingredients which I appreciated! Primo Hoagies is bar none my favorite franchise sandwich shop and has been since I lived near Philly about 10 years ago. Been meaning to stop in since I heard a few opened up in the area but this location is super out of the way to me. Had some time to burned today so I stopped in. I got the Italian which was a favorite of mine, and it did not disappoint. Overflowing with meats and cheeses and toppings! If anything it was too stuffed and hard to handle. Tasted fantastic and the sheer size made the price - around $15 for just the sandwich - feel like a decent value at the least. Service was friendly but it took a long time to get the sandwich. Inside is just a basic fast food setup, nothing fancy just a few tables. I'm glad to see Primo Hoagies here in the Charleston area, nice to have them as an option! J.Ja read more

Full disclosure, I have long lost Italian roots that stretch back to my childhood and "Goodfellas" type family who owned a butcher and sandwich shop in Connecticut. I say that because my affinity for cold grinders (hoagies, subs, torpedoes, etc) is legendary among family and restaurants across the nation as I've lived everywhere; most recently Austin TX. Back to the point, after Googling "sub shops near me" I've finally knocked PrimoHoagies off my list. My review is better than average, however please continue reading for my "professional" breakdown but note, I formed my review from one review and "hoagies" can be extremely subjective. Located in a safe part but lonely and isolated part of town PrimoHoagies has a small little store that doesn't really commit to having customers stay for lunch, rather it's meant for a pick up and leave. I'm not saying one can't stay for lunch but I found the facility's ambiance drab and lifedraining. Mainly because I worked at Subway many years ago and the interior reminds me of my horrible experiences. My own pettiness aside, it works for what's it's designed for, the pickup and leave mentality. I like the big screens with their menus and the many drink options however no fountain drinks seems like an odd choice. There are a lot of interesting chips to choose from as well as "home-made" sides. Lets start with said sides. I got the pasta salad and my two greatest fears were realized. First the pasta was overcooked thus bloated with too much cooking water. I despise huge mushy pasta. Next the remaining oil and vinegar liquid was enough to feed a small army. The flavor was ok but those first two points really brought down the experience. Next the potato salad was surprisingly decent. The potatoes had enough rigidity to them while it also offered an interesting sour after affect. I thought it was mustard but I'm still not sure. Still an above average effort. As for the stars of the show, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try the Abruzzi. I find this hoagie interesting as I've seen this type of sandwich many times before with a restaurant in Philly winning many awards with the ingredient combination. The bread is decent but after your teeth cut through the bread you can taste the nicely roasted pork immediately followed by the slightest bit of earthiness and heat from the broccoli rabe. Yes this is by far makes the sandwich which is followed by the experience from the provolone which gives it a certain funk and serious sharpness. This isn't my type of hoagie but it was a good item to try once. As for the star of my show, I ordered the mild Italian but I asked the young lady to substitute the prosciutto for ham. Don't get me wrong, I love prosciutto but I find it over powers grinders as it's too intense and salty for the rest of the sandwich. Well, the lady gave me a ham sub and I wasn't very happy to say the least. Therefore, my review for a HAM sandwich (sorry I'm still angry) was it was ok. The ingredients were fresh and the bread had a nice crunch on the outside while being moist on the inside with a little chew. They did give a lot of protein so they' don't skimp on the meat. However when paying 14 for 9" of sub, that should be a given. In summary I rank PrimoHoagies middle of the road with slightly elevated prices. They do offer some hoagie combinations and ingredients a customer can't find at other restaurants which is refreshing however I suggest being very clear with your order, then checking it. As for the sides, I would say skip them unless you'd like the potato salad or the mac salad which I didn't try. The people are extremely nice here, but not very attentive at least for my one crucial request. I don't see myself coming back however Primohoagies will work over some of the most well known and very much older chains (you know of whom I speak). read more

Thanksgiving came early at Primo Hoagies, and the Primo Pilgrim might just be my new favorite! It has fresh turkey, mayo, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. It's like the perfect Thanksgiving bite in sandwich form. I never really understood the cranberry thing at Thanksgiving dinner, but now I totally get it! Pair it with their crispy chips and one of their desserts like dirt cake or rice pudding for the ultimate comfort meal. I recently visited this store to grab dinner, and my experience was frustrating from start to finish. After I placed my order and paid, I printed my receipt from the tablet, but the employee who printed it took it and tossed it in the trash. While waiting for my sandwich, I noticed on the tablet (which was signed into my rewards account) a message that said if you don't receive your receipt, the meal would be free. I thought, "Okay, that seems fair," and when my sandwich was ready, I checked the bag -- no receipt. I went back up to the cashier and mentioned that I didn't get my receipt, and according to the sign, my meal should be free. The cashier immediately told me that the owner doesn't follow that rule and that I wouldn't be getting anything for free. I was pretty surprised, since the rule was right there in front of me on the tablet. Then, the owner, Michelle, came up to speak with me. She was incredibly rude. I explained the situation, and her response was that I should have grabbed the receipt myself. I pointed out that the employee took it and threw it away. Michelle got defensive, stating I wasn't getting free food, and suggested I email corporate. I asked her to check the security cameras to verify my story, but she refused. I told her "I mean it clearly states here on the tablet if I didn't get it, it should be free, it's part of the Primo rules?" then she compared the situation to me (The customer) following the rules while driving 30mph in a 30mph zone, as if that made any sense. At that point, I was done. The interaction was unpleasant, and honestly, it's not about the free food -- it's about the principle. Michelle seemed either to be having a bad day or simply doesn't know how to handle customer interactions. I stayed calm and polite throughout, but she was dismissive and condescending. As someone who works in customer service, I know how important it is to treat customers respectfully. If I spoke to customers the way Michelle did to me, I'd expect to be fired. From this experience, it's clear that Michelle does not follow the store's own policies, and her customer service skills need major improvement. I won't be returning to this store, and I strongly recommend that she undergo some retraining on how to communicate with and treat customers properly. This store could use some serious evaluation of its management and customer service practices. read more

I had family in town and decided to stream line lunch because there was 7 of us. I decided cheesesteaks would be an easy order( something nobody would complain about) and boy was I right. I ordered the 2 foot cheese steaks and an extra large cheese steak. I was expecting to save money on the two foot and I would cut it in 4's. I did save money but it didn't actually come in 2 feet rather they gave me two 12 inch subs. On the extra large I ordered double meat and my bag felt like it gained 10 pounds. In comparison I went to jersey mikes and ordered and extra large extra meat and it looked identical to the one from Primo's without extra meat. Don't get me wrong , jersey mikes makes a decent sub but this place is wayyyyyyy better for quantity and price. Good job guys! read more

If you're looking for authentic gabagool, these folks have all 3 kinds! With killer meats, these Italian sandwiches are done right. The veggies are perfect, the sandwiches constructed with love. Don't bother with the Small, go for the special Primo roll and enjoy it as it was meant to be. I loved my Mild Sharp Italian, and hubby said his Italian had a nice spice that lingered. I told him it was the Spicy Gabagool! The macaroni salad was twangy and saucy. I am pretty snobby about macaroni salad and I would eat this again. I got the dirt pudding for dessert but we haven't tried it yet. The sandwiches are where it's at, and I want another delivery right now! I have my eye on the Philly with broccoli rabe. Friday night and in town visiting with family. We were debating going somewhere to eat but decided to stay home and order in. We decided to try PrimoHoagies and used Grubhub to place our order. Got a sharp Italian with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, oil and vinegar and got peppers and pickles on the side. The sandwich was just okay. I had to add extra vinegar and I put some oregano and pepper on it just to add some flavor. My first few bites without my added seasoning were pretty blah. I only ate half. I can tell they use decent ingredients but their sandwiches aren't for me. Maybe ordering and eating at the restaurant makes a difference? Not sure. Super excited to have a new sub place in town. I love a good sub! I'm a sub girl through and through! We stopped for a late lunch on Saturday. We have never visited a Primo's before. We walked in and it is very small. Right away I noticed the huge menu at the counter with so many items to choose from. There was an employee standing at the register but she did not greet us or ask us if we needed help or have any suggestions. It would of been nice since we were new. But, I chose the Italian and it didn't disappoint. I was a bit surprised at the size. I ordered the small and it was small. Compared to other local sub shops it seemed smaller. I did like the thin sliced meat. The toppings were all very fresh. The bread was very good. But, I was hoping for the bread with the seeds that I saw pictures everywhere. Not sure if you have to request that? You purchase the chips and drink separately. I love how all the chips are Herr's. Those aren't easy to find down here in the South. There is only four small tables to eat inside. Something to keep in mind if your coming with a group or a large family. They do have online ordering and catering. This was our first time trying this place. I'm a fan of soft bread subs and the bread here is hard, so I'm not sure if Hoagies are typically on hard bread and subs are on soft so this is the question. If you like hard bread then this is your place. The food cost is very high when compared to Larry's or Jersey Mike's. I had the Italian and was taken back when the condiments were an added price, olives for the Italian and mushrooms for the Philly cheese steak. My wife's cheese steak was very dry and although it was supposed to have cheese on it, it was very difficult to see it, reminds me of subway, half a slice of cheese for the whole sub. Although my sub was put together well, it was hard to chew due to the bread. I did appreciate that they provided a 10% military discount and offered points for return customers which is why this is a three star and not a two. The cashier was very friendly and helpful but they don't provide fountain drinks only bottles of soda that makes people like me who likes to refill their drinks out of luck. read more

The hoagies are amazing!! It's not like your average sandwich place. They have flavor, seasoning, high quality meats and cheeses. The veggie sandwich was EXPLODING with flavor. If you like spicy the Diablo sandwiches are it! OR you can ask for a roasted (they roast it) long hot pepper on any sandwich. There are sides like Herr's chips, noodle salad, potato salad and even pudding desserts!! Now let's talk about the bread.. the sesame bread adds another level of nutty flavor to the hoagie. If you don't like sesame seeds you can also get bread without it. I haven't tried the other 45 hoagies... yet... but I bet they are as amazing. Great in store baked bread, I always judge a restaurant by certain items. Today in a hoagie shop I got the Italian, the only thing that could have made it better is if they baked it for 5 to 10 minutes. 1. Order was not prepared as requested. Oil and Vinegar was added to sandwich which was not requested. 2. Order was placed with door dash. Options: come get a replacement (I used door dash because I didn't want to go out), or request refund from door dash (which can take up to 7 days). All because someone at the restaurant did not follow the requests that were put in thru the online system (reading). 3. When calling the restaurant to report the issue and to obtain the options (which were not sufficient), store person first offered owners phone number, then changed her position. When I asked for her to follow thru on what she had said, she hung up on me. 4. When I arrived at the restaurant to return the defective sandwich, no one would own up to being the one to hang up on me (although while I was speaking with the owner, there was much smirking and smiling between the crew). Would NOT recommend for people who want their orders correct. Update 8/3/2023: Received the following message from the "owner". 8/3/2023 Hi Stephen, we are sorry about your recent experience. Please fill our this form so we can make things right again: primohoagies.com/contact... This is the direct contact to the Corporate office. They had no information regarding my review or issues. Apologies were offered, but the statement that "Each location is a Franchise, and is independently owned and operated" was made - This absolves the corporate office of any issues that happen I guess. 2nd update: I had spoken to the owner of the store, who told me to request a full refund from Door Dash. There is no way to do that unless the order wasn't delivered (which would get the door dash driver in trouble). So the offered resolution failed. read more

I want to preface this by saying we typically enjoy our primos hoagies. My husband ordered a pizza steak for dinner this evening and it was hands down the nastiest cheesesteak I've ever had. I don't know if the meat was bad or what but it was so gross we weren't even able to eat it.
