I went to my corner restaurant "Chuck's" to get their happy hour $8 burger and fries, and $4 beer…read more They bought the corner chain restaurant that went under at corner of Glenn McConnell and Magwood. I've been there three times. Food was just ok, except for burgers and fries. Used to be very good. I've tried several other things but have been disappointed. The swordfish I tried, was the worst I've ever had. With their happy-hour smash burger, they give you a sauce, that's like tomato-honey mustard. Like a crab cake sauce. Never had a burger in my life that was served with crab cake sauce... I don't care for it. I asked them to hold the sauce and swap it with extra cheese. They did. They charged me $2.00 for the cheese. Unbelievable! I don't even think it was real cheese. I decided to talk to manager about it. She took it off - but argued with me - over a cheese slice on a happy-hour meal... I get that it cost something. I would have been ok with 50 cents. Eating at a restaurant requires 20% tipping and prices are raised everywhere. Most also charge a credit card fee. I rarely eat out, due to high prices. And in many cases lower quality food is used to keep prices lower. The burger I had was not even tasty. Not like the ones I had previously. Plus, I noticed they took down their previous happy hour menus from the bar. This place is 20% full every time I've gone in. The first time I went in the bartender bought me a beer. This time an argument over a cheese slice. Seriously? What's next? limits on the salt and pepper? One shake per customer? This is an eat-in bar/restaurant that boasts of good prices. It's not McDonald's. And even they wouldn't charge $2.00 a slice. Clearly they don't value me as a customer- not going back. No thanks, keep your cheese, Chuck!

Fairly large "L" shaped bar, tall community table as you enter and several small cafe/bistro tables. The food was ok. The fried chicken (with Mac and cheese) stole the show! Moist, nice crispy crunch and really nice seasoning. The Mac and cheese was a flop. It was dry pasta and not much of the cheese. **could have been an off night for that. Friends said in the past that it was very cheesy and creamy. The Diner burger was two smash patties with the fixings. The burgers were pretty overcooked around the edges but overall not bad. The highlight of this visit was our server (Breezy) was one of the best servers we have had in Charleston by far! Speakeasy is definitely a great addition to the West Ashley area. We were actually asked if we would be willing to sit at a table with others. We did not mind. Unfortunately they were out of shrimp and catfish and my wife was wanting shrimp and grits. Our son ordered the Hog Dog, (hot dog with pulled pork) my wife ordered the Fat Boy burger, and I ordered the country fried steak. Their order came with fries and I ordered mashed potatoes and coleslaw with my dinner. Hush puppies and a corn muffin came with my meal. It took about 25-30 minutes for our meal to arrive. My dinner was delicious. Country fried steak was tender and crispy. Mashed potatoes had chunks which I like, the coleslaw was creamy with great taste, hush puppies were fantastic, and the only disappointment was the corn muffin was not warm. My wife loved her burger. Our son enjoyed the hog dog. Service was adequate. For me considering that the food was cooked to,order, I was quite satisfied with the service and the food.

I had the featured cocktail of the month. Pear Juice, Ginger, Lemon, and Bulliet Bourbon. A few people in the party ordered Bloody Marys. They liked the mix so much we bought a few bottles to take home! It was delicious! For apps, we ordered the shrimp dip, Brussels sprouts and pimento and fried green tomatoes to share, all were exceptional! The shrimp dip was tasty with big chunks of shrimp and the perfect chips that they make in-house. The Brussels sprouts had an amazing taste. A perfect aioli drizzle! I had the shrimp and grits and they were so delicious! The perfect amount of heat. The grits were so creamy. My husband got the shrimp po boy with dirty rice. The shrimp was perfectly fried! Not greasy. The dirty rice was very flavorful! My daughter and brother had the chicken sandwich, they loved it. The pork belly was ordered by someone who'd never had it before. When it arrived, they were concerned because they don't like bacon. They tried it and LOVED it. It was crispy on the outside and so tender! For dessert, we shared two key lime tarts. We all had a spoonful. It was tart, creamy and yummy. The best southern meal! We were so glad we came! Highly recommend!

Our server was really amazing. Our son ordered the cheese pita pizza and vegetable which was cauliflower tonight. He liked everything. I was not super impressed with the pizza, but it's a kids menu so it gets a pass. My husband and I were a bit deflated when we saw the current menu after looking at menus on here, but I didn't look at the dates so I'm sure they are old menus. So many things we had our heart set on trying that they didn't offer anymore. That's our fault, obviously. We had planned to grab our son dinner and we were set on a couple of apps and splitting something. We ended up ordering the fried chicken, paying $3 more for all white meat, French fries, and a side of Mac and cheese to split. It took ab 15 min to make the chicken which was no problem and we appreciated them telling us that when we ordered. Once the food arrived it looked great. The Mac and cheese was fantastic. The chicken was good and juicy, but we didn't think it was anything special really. They did give us some honey tobacco that my husband enjoyed but we felt let down by all the hype on the fried chicken. The food was prepared great and came to the table hot, we just didn't love it. They didn't do anything wrong and if they brought back some of the older menu options we might go back but after this experience it's not getting added to my favorites, unfortunately. I would maybe try again for just drinks bc the restaurant is really beautiful!
