I felt like I was in an episode of "The Bear" because the chefs actually say "Hands!" when a dish is ready to be delivered to a table (zero drama like "The Bear" though! What a nice experience! My parents eat here at least once a week and wanted to make sure we got to try it! We sat at the bar in the patio as you come into the restaurant. Perfect lighting, casual while Feeling upscale too. The bartender was great! All the foods was incredible. We went on half price oyster night and ordered over a few dozen oyster and they were great! We came in yesterday to stop by first time in. A bit weird to do reservations for the bar but we didn't wait at all. It was very quaint. We sat outside so I'll have to come back and update when I come and sit inside. Our espresso martinis would absolutely to die for. It was happy hour when we were in so we did a dozen of the house oysters they were absolutely divine. I want to come back and try a few more things on the menu and give a more thorough review. Visited Nico for my birthday celebration on a Wednesday, and I wasn't very impressed. The seafood is the best thing about this restaurant! The oysters were fantastic, and so was the shrimp cocktail! The drinks were also good, but took a while to be delivered. The service, in general, left much to be desired. We sat outdoors but were largely ignored. I've also never been to a restaurant for my birthday that didn't show me a dessert menu. All in all, if you are only interested in good seafood, definitely visit Nico, but I would skip it if you are having a special occasion. read more

We had another excellent dining experience at Nico recently and appreciate having such a great restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. We visited especially for their softshell crab special and it was amazing. With the nice spring weather we sat on the patio, and had consistent friendly service by Kallie. The gimlet cocktail was refreshing and perfect for the experience. A visit to Nico requires an order of their wonderful oysters, then we also had an order of mussels. YUM! But the best part of dinner was their softshell crab entree, a perfectly fried softie on a bed of succotash. This was one of the best softies we had this season. With a few more gimlets we made it through this seafood feast. Then we ended with their baked Alaska and espresso martinis. Came here tonight to celebrate my moms birthday and the food was delicious! We also got some oysters on the half shell, and they are 1/2 priced on Mondays! It's truly painful to write this review, but Nico's just isn't the same as it was several years ago. The service at the oyster counter is always A+, but unfortunately the food was average at best this visit. I spend a lot of time in New England, so maybe comparing Nico's lobster roll to the real thing isn't entirely fair, but the lobster roll here was honestly disappointing. If you like the texture of tuna salad or egg salad, you may enjoy it, but I was expecting actual chunks of lobster. Instead, it was finely chopped and dripping with mayo. The calamari also missed the mark, about 95% tubes, maybe one or two tentacles, heavily breaded, and cut into very small pieces. The breading and seasoning completely overpowered the calamari itself. That said, you really can't beat the happy hour. The 1/2-price oysters and overall selection are excellent, with a strong New England variety. Unfortunately, 3 of the 12 oysters we received were bad, though to their credit they were replaced quickly and kindly. Our waitress was friendly and good overall, just a little slow at times. The hostess, however, seemed stressed and gave off the feeling that we were inconveniencing her. Would I go back? Yes, but strictly for the happy hour oysters. read more

Saw this restaurant on Yelp when we were visiting the area and my bf and I decided to give it a try for dinner. As advised by other Yelpers, we made a reservation ahead of time (same day just in the morning). I guess parking in the area is a little weird but we Ubered there so we didn't deal with that issue. When we got there we were disappointed that our reservation was for outside but whatever it is what it is. At least the weather wasn't bad! To eat we shared some oysters to start and then we got the mussels and octopus. Octopus was good, mussels were FANTASTIC! We were fighting over who would get the last spoonfuls of the sauce. We visit Charleston fairly regularly, and Nico is one of our favorite go-to spots. The restaurant tends to be crowded, but we've always been able to grab a reservation and the service never suffers! They are friendly, quick to take orders, and knowledgeable about the dishes. The food is always so fresh and flavorful. Everything we've ever had there was delicious, but we always order oysters and tuna tartare. If you can, go on Mondays for 1/2 off oysters! More on the traditional end of the spectrum of restaurants here in town. It is French inspired so LOTS of butter and cream begging for a bottle of wine (or 2). Service team is friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, flavors and vey helpful n directing the eater to find the right dinner option. Love the oyster options! Love the catch of the day option (which is surprisingly hard to find along the tourist areas along King street). Ambience is a bit off from perfect. However that is the only potential drawback. When I travel, I often have a craving for seafood because we rarely, if never, eat it at home. I was thinking about some crispy fried shrimp all day after I heard about Nico, so I had to come try some. The saffron aioli is fantastic and also, somehow, goes super well with their hot, crunchy, gooey, fantastic cheese balls. I came to feast and I certainly left satisfied. Bartenders were super helpful as they narrowed down my beer choice to the perfect ice cold selection and took care of me with beautiful service. Such fresh and delicious seafood! The roasted oysters with Provençal butter were juicy, delicious and perfect size. One of the girls at the table did not like seafood so we got potato caviar which was just potatoes au gratin cooked into a square with very little sauce, which made it dry. The fire roasted fish changes every night, but the way that it was served that night was exquisite. It was light, flaky and very tender. Cooked to perfection with a side of sauce and a fire roasted tomato which gave an extra flavor. The the chicken Cordon Bleu did not have very much cheese inside and seemed more like roasted chicken than anything else. The Demi glaze was a sweet gravy and the best thing about this was the mushrooms. I'm not quite sure if I would get any non-seafood items from here again, but the seafood items were a 10 out of 10. read more

LOVEEEEE this place! First time here and the food was absolutely delicious. We started with the escargot. SO yummy with the most delicious chive butter oil goodness. Can't think of a better way to start the meal. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better ... it did! The fire roasted grouper was cooked to perfection with a red wine reduction sauce. We booked here on reading reviews. The food was outstanding. I had the scallops, French onion soup and creme Brule. My husband had salad and grouper. He said it was delicious. We also had roasted oysters. The reason I am holding back 1 star is because of a few mishaps. 1. The waiter forgot to place our order for the roasted oysters, so we got them after a ling wait and I asked if our oysters were still coming. 2. He took away my husband's utensils and never brought back any. So when my husband's food was served we had to wait to get someone's attention to get his utensils. The ambiance is nice. We were seated at the bar and were greeted right away by the bartender. He was very nice and super helpful with our menu choices. We ordered the artichoke crab dip, gnocchi, and the baked oysters with bread crumbs and garlic. All were very tasty and fresh! Our check got mixed up, but we were compensated for their mistake. My only request to my family when we took a group trip to SC was a bangin' seafood dinner. Nico was our choice and they did NOT disappoint. Upon perusing the Yelp photos I saw pics of the raw bar le petit plateaux and I was like the "I WANT THAT" lady in Napoleon Dynamite (IYKYK) to my husband who gladly agreed to split it with me. It came with 12 raw oysters, tuna tartare, and shrimp cocktail. I also really wanted to sample the caviar oyster so we added that to the tower and it was all excellent. So fresh, so tasty. There really isn't much better than getting fresh oysters on the coast! And the caviar oyster, (an oyster topped with creme fraiche, chives, and egg yolk) was a really delicious splurge. We also split an order of the baked scallops (served with harissa butter and baguette). It was all so good! Our server was prompt and helpful, and the surroundings were lovely. We sat in the covered outdoor-ish patio which was comfortable and breezy even though it was a hot summer evening. There isn't much a view here as it's situated on main road but the patio was nicely decorated and a fence covered with some some greenery made for a much better view than the road on the other side. The only negative is that parking here is....not great. There were 6 of us, one too many to fit in one car so we drove two and parking both was a pain. Luckily we were able to find something in the end but just a heads up it could be a challenge. It's absolutely worth it though! read more

I got the caviar oyster it was refreshing and presentation 10/10 the tuna oyster was also so good that I had to get the tuna tartare appetizer. Hands down one of the best tartares and good portion size. We could've done without the cauliflower side it was ok but not the best item on the menu- the potato gratin on the other hand we had to take some to go. The cheese was melted and potato's cooked to perfection. My main dish was the swordfish which was the fish of the day. They had tons of specials but this was without a doubt such a great choice. Some places overcooked swordfish and it gets dry but this was juicy and moist. 12/10 service, food, experience. I only wish I lived here so I could come back weekly. read more

Exceptional food and service at this Mount Pleasant French inspired restaurant. One of our favorites in the Charleston area. Consistent experience each time. Our server, Alex, was wonderful, attentive and friendly. The staff works efficiently and in concert with each other. Food is served quickly and tables cleared efficiently. The highlight is certainly the food. We started with a very well crafted Old Fashion and Negroni. The tuna tartare is out of this world! Can't believe we had not tried it before. We asked to leave out the cucumbers - it had radish slivers and a light Dijon dressing to it. We were sad to finish it. It really was amazing with the taste of the tuna accentuated with Dijon. For the dinner, my wife enjoyed the perfectly cooked bay scallops. She suggested it was one of her favorite scallop dishes anywhere. I had the bouillabaisse that was fresh, perfectly cooked in a white wine broth. Probably one of the best I have ever had as well. The broth was really excellent - I prefer the white wine vs tomato base. It has octopus, mussels, clams, scallops and shrimp. If I had one wish is a piece of white fish...sounding a little shelfish at this point. The finale was a hot brownie with double chocolate ice cream. It was a generous portion that we enjoyed fully!! This place slayed my tastebuds!! I wanted to take my parents out while they were visiting and we landed on Nico. This place books up fast so be sure to get a reservation- we settled to sit at the bar. We started our experience with some drinks- the boast several types of wine and they also have some beer options. I enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. As an appetizer we ordered a dozen of the single ladies oysters. The oysters are served on the half shell and on ice. Crackers, cocktail sauce, and a vinaigrette are also served with the oysters. Each of the sauces were run of the mill, I wish they offered a specialty sauce. We also enjoyed the baguette with house butter. For the main course, I enjoyed the whole fish and let me tell you that thing was huge and delish!! My parents split the salmon papillote and it was yummy too. I left full and very satisfied. Really cool place out in Mt. Pleasant. But the parking is very limited or you can pay to park at a couple different lots nearby. They have this sailor theme going on which I felt was fitting. They also have a nice outdoor patio which is where the bar is and serve some very fresh oysters! You can see the guys shucking away right in the restaurant. They have oyster specials on Monday which we didn't know until we got there so that was nice and since it was my birthday, he even brought us out a champagne toast. Patrick was our server and he was great throughout the whole night. Their floor manager was also very helpful by checking on us and taking away our dishes as they finished. FIRE seafood. The presentation is beautiful, as you can see from the photos. Unrelated to the food, but I think that their plates are so cool and fit the vibe that they are going for here! The raw and baked oysters are a highlight; very fresh and such nice garnishes come with them. The baked lobster was warm and buttery, no complaints at all and worth the price. It's satisfying to order a pricey seafood and feel like it was worth it. Nico is nestled in a unique little spot in the Shem Creek area which is a really nice spot to get away from the metropolitan area and be near the water. There's a pier right across the street that you can take a walk on before your dinner while you wait for a table or afterwards! The service is great. There is a lot of younger employees and they're all super friendly and accommodating. The ambiance isn't all you would expect from a place with this quality of food and hype but it's easy to look past. I love it here! read more

Such a great spot for a celebration or special occasion meal! The staff are always excellent from the host to the waiters and runners. Parking is tough around Shem Creek so highly recommend using a ride share but they do validate for some of the paid parking. Recent favorite menu items were the whole red snapper, Lowcountry Cups oysters, sea scallops and lyonaise salad. Inside is comfortable and doesn't get too loud.
