We purchased Softshell crabs which were so much larger and even a bit cheaper than the store we bought from 2 days earlier. A classic Mt Pleasant and Shem Creek gem. This place has been around as long as I can remember (30+ years). The seafood is fresh - literally right off the boat - and perfect if you are cooking a dish where that is the main feature. There are all types of seafood available for purchase, and the employees are able to help you select what you are looking for and how much of it you might need depending on the crowd. I'm addition to fresh seafood, there are other snacks and products available (like oyster knives). Full disclosure... I've never actually been here. I've had food brought home and I've cooked it though which is an experience in itself. They've been around forever and always have the freshest seafood. Often times were looking for lobsters to bring that taste of New England home, but recently it was crab we were on the lookout for. We ended up with 3lbs of snow crab and 2lbs of king crab. The size of the legs were bigger than what we were finding at the grocery and the meat was so sweet. I was a little hesitant about the king crab having never cooked it at home before, but I'll definitely be doing it more from now on. Just make sure you have a big enough pot because they're gigantic. read more

We had an awesome experience with Mt. Pleasant Seafood! We were staying in Isle of Palms with a house full of 25 people, and we pre-ordered a make-your-own shrimp boil kit for our crowd - it came with easy instructions, Old Bay seasoning, cocktail sauce, sliced lemons, and even plastic ware & paper products. The quality of the food (shrimp, sausage, potatoes, half corn cobs, onions) was phenomenal, and we had plenty left over for lunch the next day! 10/10 recommend! read more

So we drove from Charlotte thinking the seafood will be fresher and CHEAPER being that they're RIGHT ON THE WATER! Boy were we wrong! I'm from Miami where there's too much competition to overcharged for fish. Its a small market with a small but notable selection of fish. The staff was helpful and friendly. Here's the problem! In Miami I get FRESH SNAPPER for $8.99 a pound, FRESH CORVINA for $6.99 a pound, FRESH GROUPER $8.99 a pound! Tell me WHY all the fish they have is over 20$ a pound!!! I'm from Mount Pleasant. My family has been patronizing Mount Pleasant Seafood Market for years. After my experience yesterday, I have decided to take my money elsewhere. I will not give any money to a business with rude employees. I went in to purchase crab legs. I walked to the freezer, grabbed two bags, and went to the register. The guy behind the counter appeared to be a teenager, but he may have been in his early twenties. His demeanor was extremely off-putting. While ringing me up, he made rude remarks about the "Blame Society" slogan on my t-shirt and attempted to attack and debate me about its meaning. I didn't go to the seafood market to have a sociology debate. I expect friendly service, and that's it. If it means going to a seafood market as far as West Ashley, Summerville or Johns Island, I will do it. read more

We were visiting from Greenville and this place was recommended from a local. The staff was so helpful, friendly and amazing. We bought a huge bag of single oysters to take home and they tasted great at a decent price. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area and want to take some seafood home. read more

We encountered the rudest employees when I visited the store with my mom. They literally were laughing and snickering when my mom asked them something in broken English. We didn't need the sarcasm and attitude, especially from a couple of teenage boys. Anyways, just thought I'd let everyone know that the service there is terrible but that doesn't reflect the quality of seafood since I didn't stay long enough to get any. We just walked out. They're so good that I kinda wanna keep them a secret....but what's the fun in that? The one thing I love going here for is the wide variety of good, fresh fish carcass that I can get here for stock (and really, the trimmings off the salmon sometimes can be enough to make large salmon cakes--I've gotten 13 out of 2 carcasses once). Have I been told by friends who fish that I can get carcass (and more) if I just went fishing? Yes, but honestly then why would awesome fish markets exist? If you're looking around for fish markets on yelp then you know you're not gonna get off your ass and go fish...so just come in here and see what awesome things they can give you! read more

I don't know if it's the fact that shrimp boats are on Shem Creek behind it, the friendly staff or the freshest seafood in town or a combo of the three that keeps me coming back, but I do. we went here thinking it would be a really amazing seafood market since it's right on the water and by the boardwalk and really nice restaurants. it was absolutely filthy. the smell itself could hardly be tolerated. we didn't even try to buy any fish because the smell was so incredibly rotten that we didn't feel comfortable with the quality of the fish. the overall cleanliness of the store itself looked like nothing has ever been cleaned. we normally don't write bad reviews on yelp but felt this needed to be reviewed. read more

We got shrimp, key lime pie and crab dip - all were to my utmost satisfaction. Came in to try and fix a family meal with local seafood. None of the fish looked great, and was told that the medium sized shrimp had been "thawed out" that morning. Guy behind the counter was somewhat surly, and looked annoyed that we were in there. Wound up buying the larger shrimp that had been caught the day before for $12 a lb, then right afterwards found someone else at the weekly Mt Pleasant farmers market selling large fresh shrimp from the back of his pickup for $5 less a pound (with the heads still on, however). Seriously the best seafood store in town. The second you walk in the door you feel like family. The staff is phenomenal and the seafood is always delicious. Such a gem. One of the employees even gave my 6 year old son a quarter for the gum ball machine! Years ago one of the employees gave my son a book because he was disappointed there were no lobsters in the tank. We love this place! They catered an Oyster Roast for us and everything was picture perfect! Tha oysters were scrumptious and they even supplied bar bq for the non oyster eaters, a huge fruit tray, vegetable tray and even homemade brownies for dessert. The staff was friendly and efficient and even had suggestions for decorations for the tables. You can count on them to serve the freshest seafood for every occasion.
