I've passed CudaCo many times over the past 4 years. It's always caught my eye, but being from Mount Pleasant, I've always been on a mission, go to Hyams and then get an amazing sandwich from Yous Guys. But luckily I was craving seafood when I left Hyams, so I decided to to give CudaCo a shot. As soon as you walk in the door, you can tell it's not your typical seafood market. There's a room of wines for sale, beer, and a few dining tables. Then there's the fresh catch display case... And I must say, their selection is consistently great. The quality and freshness is top notch. And they usually have some hard to find fresh catch. What makes CudaCo stand out from other markets is that you can pick your desired catch from the display case and then have them cook it to your liking. Everything that I've had was literally foot stomping good. And to add to that, they also offer frozen seafood, premade dips, and many other items in the freezer section. I'm a huge fan of CudaCo and I'm mad at myself for taking so long to give them a shot. read more

So, I've tried this place a couple times. First time, we got some fried flounder and it was just ok. Seriously underseasoned. Was prob the worst fried flounder I've ever had, to be completely honest. But that's not why I give this place such a low rating. It's the service. Both times I've been here - the first time to eat there and the second time to just buy some fresh fish to cook at home - the people who worked there have been borderline rude. Maybe rude is the wrong word. Personality-less might be a better descriptor. There was a major vibe of - "what do you want...because you're bothering me..." if that makes sense. Contrast that with Crosby's down the road (heading towards Folly Beach on the right) and the difference is STARK. Crosby's people are *always* so nice and helpful. Can't tell you how many times I've struck up a conversation about what I was buying and how I was planning to cook it at Crosby's. CudaCo, on the other hand, is cold and their staff seems completely indifferent about their customers. It's why I never go there anymore and I tell everyone I know to avoid it like the plague. Bottom line, save your time and money and go to Crosby's instead. Life's too short to be treated the way CudaCo treats their customers. read more

Was recommended to try this place by one of our tour guides, and boy he did not steer us wrong! Everything we tried was to die for. Super fresh, great quality and flavor, and a fantastic price point for fresh seafood! We got the smoked fish spread (white fish), the fried oyster po boy, the peel and at eat shrimp cocktail, and the "Sandy" (fried flounder sandwich). They also have a canned lemonade there called Joes Lemonade, GET ITTTT. Not tons of seating available, so keep that in mind if you're hoping for dine in at busy times. But other than that, this place was incredible. We will absolutely be coming back any time we find ourselves in town. read more

You order your selection at the counter - everything from po boys to platters to sticky coconut rice bowls. We went to CudaCo in Folly Beach for Mother's Day and were delighted that they still have soft shell crab! Not as a sandwich though (which was buzzing on social media), but in a fried seafood basket with calamari and shrimp, all of which were so crispy with just the right amount of batter, and absolutely delicious! We understood why the soft shell crab is served in a fried basket or platter because the crab was on the smaller side, which is probably also why they no longer serve soft shell crab sandwiches, since those require a bigger crab. Service was quick and efficient, and we appreciated that the front staff was patient with answering every customer's questions and taking down their orders. As for the interior and vibe, they have seating both outside and inside. We opted to sit inside since it was going to get sunny, and the indoor noise level was doable. Finally, they do not just serve food, they also sell a plethora of seafood right off the ice. Just be warned that their shrimp may not be fresh, as you can tell by the color of the tails. Black tails are a sign that the shrimp is not right off the water, though the quality is still fine, I'm sure. There is truly not a bad thing on the menu! The staff at CudaCo are always so friendly and knowledgeable about their items, so you will be sure to leave happy. I always believed this was a sit-down restaurant until I went to try it with some visiting friends. I was pleasantly surprised that you order at the register and can then take a seat wherever you like, indoors or outside, and they will bring your food to you. I also appreciated the free parking lot. Even though there is limited indoor seating, there are plenty of picnic tables outside to sit at on a warm Charleston day. You can also easily ask for your food to go. Even better, you can enjoy a meal and still bring home more seafood to cook at a later date while supporting a local small business. After driving by CudoCo. everyday, my friend and I finally stopped in. It is packed every time I drive past so it was a nice surprise to see a couple of spots were open for us. Seating is limited, but don't let that deter you. There are additional picnic tables out back if inside and the four two-too patio tables out front are full. We ordered the snapper fried fillet (that is the best fried fish I have had since visiting the UK. Hands down. Nothing in SC tops this.), the smoke white fish dip (absolutely incredible flavors!), raw oysters and their broiled oysters that were equally delicious. All of this was paired with a craft beer. The staff was very pleasant, and the interior is simple but nice and clean. I love that you can see what they'll be putting together for you. There is a small gift shop to by chips, dip, other food items and of course, merch! 10/10 recommend and can't wait to go back! read more

Don't get scared off by the appearance from the outside. This place is outstanding! The house oysters were the best I've had in Charleston. We had the soft shell sandy and it too was amazing. Don't blink or you might miss them! CudaCo appears as a small house on Folly Road heading toward the beach. The product of two friends who love surfing and seafood, this small shop has been selling seafood, cooking seafood, and providing seafood for lowcountry restaurants for five years. When you walk in you are greeted by an ice filled display case loaded with fresh food all available to be prepared the way you want it. We started with 1/2 pound of clams which could be served with either a white wine sauce or a curry sauce, we chose the white wine. They were super fresh and not the least bit chewy or gritty. My wife ordered the oyster po'boy which came loaded with large perfectly fresh oysters, a very generous portion. For a side she ordered the Cajun Vinegar kettle chips which were definitely Cajun with loads of spice on each chip. I tried a market fish which was a golden tile pan seared. It was market price which came out to $19 which was a little high but when you taste the freshness and tenderness its was well worth it. I tried the purple cumin slaw which was earthy and with bold spices. They have picnic benches facing a beautiful marsh perfect for enjoying a relaxing lunch! read more

While the food is excellent, I think the service along with the undisclosed credit card surcharge bring this review to three stars. To start with the good stuff, the food is an easy, five out of five. I highly recommend the coconut sticky rice bowl with tuna as well as the fried oyster po'boy. The coconut sticky rice bowl is topped with avocado and spicy, mayo, and on the side you get an absolutely delicious, seaweed salad, a refreshing slaw, and a generous amount of your protein (tuna in my case). The oyster po'boy is also delicious. Giant, juicy fried oysters are generously stuffed in the sandwich on top of a remoulade and slaw on the bottom. The oysters are super crispy and have a really tasty, briny flavor. The roll is also really soft and toasted well with butter. Also make sure to check out their specials as they can vary from time to time. Sometimes on Tuesdays, they will do 50% off any oyster dishes, which can include the sandwich. Now, for the things that I believe, if they change, could easily shoot them up to five stars. First, the service is very inconsistent. My friends and I placed orders right after each other, and our dishes overlapped as the same dishes, however, their order came out over 20 minutes before my order was ready. While we had identical orders, it definitely was not great to have to wait 20 minutes. Obviously we ate the food as it came out so that it didn't get cold. The next issue is that you will not realize they are charging you a credit card surcharge. This surcharge is not disclosed anywhere on their website, menu, or even the POS they use. The only time you know you were charged to surcharge for using a credit card is on your receipt. This should definitely be disclosed both on their website as well as on all of their printed menus. Lastly, it would be nice if their outdoor seating had some space heaters and bug repellants available. The indoor seating at the restaurant is quite small, and so they have a separate area outside with benches. In the end, definitely come here if you want some incredible seafood, but just know that they are going to be some issues in getting the food. read more

Can't recommend based on the first visit. While we're waiting, another customer gets disgruntled and walks to the counter, and complains that he's been waiting a long time for a po-oy. A few minutes later they bring it to him. He stares at it, gets up, goes to the counter: "I"ve been waiting 45 minutes for five oysters on a hot dog bun?" Yep. We also got the oyster po-boy and it was, yes, five oysters on a hot dog bun with some sparse dressing on the bottom. (It soaked the bun so it split open.) I grew up in southern LA and know oyster po-boys and you, sir, are no oyster po-boy. Frequently they're on fresh bread with remoulade, lettuce, and tomato. So this could be a northern - gasp - variation on it, but it was still lacking. A salad came with a pice of overcooked tuna and was meh. Cooking a piece of tuna should be child's play here. One minute on each side and serve. On the plus side, the snapper ceviche was really nice. And, no drinks, plus tip = nearly $70. It's hard to justify that. read more

The store/market is small, impeccably clean with zero fishy odor. The seafood was displayed beautifully and the selection was impressive. It was fun to see both fish collars and cheeks. I get it, some products cost may fluctuate greatly, but there is absolutely no reason why they can't produce a chalkboard itemizing individual items and the day's prices. Our local seafood purveyors display not only the prices, but origin and fresh vs previously frozen. Even prepared items in the refrigerated sections, had no tags. We stopped primarily to check the place out and look for a seafood dip for an appetizer. We found a very small container of a smoked whitefish spread and decided to give it a try. While my husband was paying for our purchase, I went outside. As we got into our vehicle I asked him how much it was. He stared at me and said $18. Nope, nada, never again. The container held maybe a half cup. We purchase house made lump crab dip at our local gourmet market for $10, and the serving size is more generous than was offered here. I just did a review for Blackbird market on Johns Island about their fried oysters saying they might be the best. I simply have to rethink this. Because I have never had fried oysters like this. I will try to describe it is like Old Bay seasoning meats salt and vinegar with a Cajun ending but OMG they are so good. I also ordered the fish dip. I believe they have three kinds of fish dips I can't remember what I chose but it is so damn good. And the arrangement that comes with them are so alluring and beautiful. I will definitely be back I was meaning to come here for a long time and I'm so sad I waited so long. I think I spent 80 bucks in this place and I had to get up and run cuz I swear I was looking at a $200 bill if I didn't leave. Short of pulling the fish out of the ocean yourself, I can't think of a fresher way to enjoy seafood than pointing to your favorite filet at the counter and watching the monger whisk it away to cook to order. I saw a woman scarfing down a dozen oysters with a huge smile on her face, another patron pop in to pick up several pounds of shrimp for a family dinner, and a table of folks, each enjoying their particular fish of choice. This restaurant is like fresh seafood market, with small wine shop , and small area inside to eat in. Rhe also have some tables and chairs outside. Very casual place to eat. The food we had for lunch was good. We had the po boy fried scallop, crudo with fresh tuna, and 1/2 lbs steamed mussels. Everything so fresh and they also have fresh seafood there. Headed to CudaCo for $1 oysters. My friend and I waited for 30 minutes and the gentleman completely forgot to shuck our oysters. We had to stop over to remind him. This was our lunch/dinner to end our impromptu trip to South Carolina. After kayaking against the wind and tides, we worked up an appetite and I was already craving oysters! So damn delicious!!! There are other things that are way less expensive for sure, but we really wanted oysters and to try these beautiful fresh fish. I went back and also purchased sparkling water, swordfish to take home, blue grits, red peas, and Carolina gold rice. I spent about $75 more. We spent the most money on our trip here. We even bought shoes (Uggs and an Italian leather shoe) in Savannah and didn't spend this much. Yet this was worth it. I appreciate good food. Well made and healthy.
