What a fun afternoon!!! I am just in the process of learning the waterfront restaurants/bars in my area and was excited to check this spot out. I was a little worried when the website said call ahead seating was on hold thinking they would be slammed, but forged onward!' It was Sunday afternoon. I have read about nightmare parking but did not experience that at all. Zoomed right in. Yes, it was eleven bucks. I don't mind paying and refuse to get myself worked up over it. Ask for an outside table and no sooner did we sit down, the dolphins showed up!!! I consider myself an expert on dolphin spotting and had to show the table of 5 college age young ladies where they were located. They loved them as well. Who knew they would be so active in the middle of a busy waterway? As a former boat owner, I love watching those huge honkin' boats parallel park in between the baby ones. I do not have that skill , but it's entertaining to watch. Tyler was our server and was nice and attentive. Drinks were cold and quite good. I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was Cambria. Not crazy expensive either! Had shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp. So many steamed ones that I had a full meal the next day. I look forward to trying many more dishes. What I enjoyed the most was being part of a fun atmosphere in a fun place. Not a sad person in the place. That's always my attitude near any body of water. A nice dining spot on the water with great views! It was very crowded on a Saturday afternoon but my husband and I were able to snag two bar seats upstairs. We ordered a half pound of peel & eat shrimp to snack on while having some drinks. I'm not sure if I was just hungry or if the shrimp were actually as good as I thought they were! And on this side of the river, I noticed it's lit on Vickery's side. This place has really good food! We visited during Shem Creek's Mardi Gras celebration, unbeknownst to us, so the whole area was busy! It took a bit for our food to come out and for waitstaff to tend to us, but we were able to enjoy the view while we waited. We sat outside at the high tables and were kind of forgotten about. The price for what we ordered was comparable to other places in the area, but a little high for what it is. I wasn't blown away by anything, the food was good and the views were lovely, but I feel the events of the day made this place more fun than anything. Such a lovely dinner at Sunsets. Our server was fabulous, very attentive and made the evening super enjoyable. We came for a late dinner so unfortunately some of our picks for dinner options were sold out but she was still able to accommodate us perfectly. The hush puppies were a delicious appetizer and everyone enjoyed their entrees as well. We decided to eat inside since we were dining with a 9 month old and it was a bit chilly outdoors but getting to basically sit on the water and enjoy the views while being inside was lovely. I tried this place for the first time. I was hoping to get a waterside table, but the wait would've been about 30 mins. So I ended up just going with an indoor seat and was so happy to see it still provided a good view of the water. I ordered the brussel sprouts and the shrimp. Both were so good. I happened to get a vodka soda during their $5 happy hour. I also got the firecracker roll and the mango roll. Yum! The place was clean, had a good vibe. Our waitress was super attentive (thank you). This was our first time visiting Sunsets Waterfront Dining while in town for a meeting, and we're so glad we found it through a little research, it did not disappoint! We arrived just in time for happy hour. I ordered a vodka cranberry and the peel-and-eat shrimp, which were so fresh and flavorful I ended up ordering a second round. The staff was very accommodating, they easily honored my request for steamed broccoli and a house salad with dressing on the side to go with my shrimp. My husband had the blackened mahi tacos, and he loved them, fresh, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. The only small downside is parking, but now that we know what to expect, it's not a big deal. Every staff member we spoke with was friendly and helpful. The views along the water are beautiful, and we learned that part of Outer Banks was filmed right along this creek. There are also several other restaurants nearby--you can take a nice little walk across the bridge to explore them if you're looking to make a night of it. Only reason I'm giving 4 starts is they were incredibly understaffed and it was definitely affecting some of those who were there working. Sunsets! I've been wanting to try this place to go down the list of places to try down Shem Creek. My husband and I came on a Friday night around 6pm , got sat rather quickly (about 10min) outside. The view is great! You get to see the boats go by. Our server came over quickly and was super friendly. They have happy hour from 4-7 so I got a wine. My husband ordered the hush puppies and fish sandwich. I got the grilled salmon wrap. The hush puppies were very good. Light and crisp with a sweet corn flavor. My husband did not like the fish sandwich, it was big with not much flavor. I thought my salmon wrap was OK , mightve needed some more salt. Overall the view is nice! Service friendly! But i'm not sure we would come back for the food unless every other place was booked and we wanted something on the water. Hush puppies and wine were the highlight. read more

We are visiting from NC and wanted some good food and came across this place. We started with some peel and eat shrimp (half off M-F 4-7 by the way) and it was amazing and so seasoned!!!! Then we had some great sushi- the Caribbean roll and the Creek Roll. To make the experience 100/10, Joey gave us some great recommendations for things to do on our visit. What a great find! We stopped in because the wait was much shorter than the other restaurants on Shem Creek, and we're so glad we did. The happy hour peel-and-eat shrimp had great flavor, and the cocktail sauce was excellent, not the regular run of the mill ketchup cocktail, but nothing too fancy. At our table, we also had the grouper sandwich, fish and chips, and the burger--every single dish was outstanding. While the food and ambiance were good, the service was horrible! We asked for outside seating and were told none was available, yet there were four empty tables that were available the entire time we were there...and they were NOT reserved because we called earlier for reservations and were told they do not take them. It took 45 minutes to get our waitress to take our order. Also the parking lot is a total clusterf*ck complete with potholes that have been there for at least a year. They should totally ticket pig-parkers who take up two parking spaces. We ordered some additional sushi to go but got home and found they had only put one roll in instead of two. The views alone are worth the trip--watching the sunset over the water with a drink in hand was the perfect way to wind down. The vibe was relaxed but lively, and the drinks were great (the spicy margarita was a crowd favorite). What a great place to see all of the boats coming and going. We went to the second floor, the bartender was extremely accommodating. We wanted to sit by the window and he went over and made sure that he opened all of the windows at the bar rail. And it wasn't an easy chore. LOL. We were really looking forward to this but must have went on a bad night (Thursday). The waitress was not very good. Seated us with waters and then came back to get appetizer order. She never even asked us if we wanted anything other than waters so we had to flag her down while waiting on appetizers and she seemed surprised that we wanted to order drinks and even said "oh you want drinks"? And she didn't get the drink order right upon her return either. The restaurant was pretty packed and the appetizers were slow coming out. While waiting for them, she came back and asked if we wanted to go ahead and put in our main entree order for the kitchen. Good thing we did because the main entree took about 45 minutes to come out after the appetizers came! When we asked about it we were told "the kitchen is in a mess right now" Our waitress never came back to check on us during our meals and each time we needed something we had to flag her down. We had to ask for drink refills and she got that wrong when she returned. Our grandson also ordered the crab boil and it came out without any claw breakers. We finally just flagged down a busboy to bring him some. In addition to the sub par service and long wait times for food, the food was not that good. The sushi looked amazing in pictures but seemed kinda stale tasting. The others commented their food was "just ok" Definitely not the experience we had expected after reading reviews. read more

This is our go to Shem creek spot. The food is fantastic and the views on the deck outdoor are amazing! We started with the crab and lobster dip which was perfectly warm with huge chunks of lobster. Great portion to share! Then I had the sushi the firecracker roll and crispy tuna. Not my favorite crispy tuna rice but it's my favorite dish and I have it all over anywhere that has it. I found it bland. The firecracker roll was delicious. I also had the kiss my bubbles cocktail which was perfect! Light and refreshing! I did take a star off as service was not great.
