After an incredible lunch at nearby Obstinate Daughter, my friends and I were walking around Sullivan's Island when we were going to get drinks at Home Team BBQ but it was absolutely packed. Their long wait ended up working in my favor because I convinced everyone to pop into The Longboard instead for a Painkiller... or two. In 2018, I visited The Longboard on St. John in the US Virgin Islands and I've seriously been dreaming about their Painkillers ever since. Naturally, I was thrilled to learn there was a sister restaurant on Sullivan's Island. We grabbed seats at the bar, enjoyed the tropical vibes, and ordered exactly what I had been dreaming of for so long. My friend opted for a Painkiller with a floater while I stuck with the classic version. Both were fantastic and instantly transported me back to the Caribbean. We also ordered a half dozen of the daily oysters. They took a little longer than expected to arrive, but when we asked about them, the manager couldn't have been kinder. He immediately brought them out and insisted on taking them off our bill altogether. Completely unnecessary but a thoughtful gesture and great example of excellent customer service. Our bartender, Caleb, was also a delight!!! He was friendly and helped make our visit enjoyable. Honestly, I only wish we hadn't just stuffed ourselves at Obstinate Daughter because I absolutely would have ordered more food here. The poke bowls looked incredible (as did the entire menu if I'm being honest). Whether it's Sullivan's Island or St. John, consider me a worldwide Longboard fan. Due to it being summer, I wasn't sure if we would need a reservation for lunch or not, so I made one - just in case. We got there, had to a wait a couple of minutes to be seated. The space is cute, nice decor/vibe. Our server was friendly and service was quick. I tried the frozen painkiller, which was delicious. Calamari appetizer was crispy and I really enjoyed the aioli that came with it - it added a nice, light flavor. I ordered the Sullivan's sushi wrap, which included spicy tuna, avocado, crispy shallot, sesame, teriyaki sauce and a spicy aioli. They did not skimp on the sauce, which I love because it adds a nice, flavorful punch. The tuna was fresh and tasty. Not sure what the wrap was made of - not sure it added much in terms of flavor - but it made it into something handheld, which thankfully is better than some of the "sushi burritos" I have had before. Overall, it was fresh and tasty. Definitely a good option if you're in the area. read more

A quite enjoyable birthday lunch! I appreciate that their non-alcoholic beer wasn't strictly an IPA and a pilsner. They have several mocktails and a NA golden beer. The calamari was cooked and fried perfectly, and the aioli was a perfect addition. A little over half of the calamari was just the small squidlings which doesn't bother me, but I can see that being an issue for many. It doesn't have the same flavor as the rings and it's a bit saltier, but maybe that's just personal preference. The Isle of Palms of wrap tasted really fresh, loved the fish and the tuna and shrimp. I found the outside of the wrap (rice paper?) a little bland, but it didn't detract much from the rest of the contents. Next time I'd like to try the shaded outside seating because it looked beautiful. read more

We were in the mood for some sushi & fresh seafood and decided to check out The Longboard Restaurant located on Sullivan's Island. It was around four in the afternoon and to our delight they serve lunch until 5pm and also had Happy Hour specials. It is absolutely gorgeous in here. A beautiful space with coastal decor. Ideal for large groups & holiday makers. I strongly suggest making a booking in high season. I've seen the lines down the street in the height of summer. The dishes were absolutely delicious fresh & beautifully presented. Saylor was our server and she was attentive without being obtrusive, knowledgeable & helpful with the menu. She made our entire experience so much more enjoyable. Parking can be difficult on Sullivan's but The Longboard is definitely worth the hassle. read more

We went there for our anniversary around Memorial Day. I refuse to go there for the last three years. One Sunday three years ago, we went in there for brunch I think we had eight people all my family ordered a round of drinks. When we started ordering our brunch on a Sunday, they had nothing left because they were overwhelmed. We're not gonna eat leftovers. And I was very upset that they didn't mention this before. We rang up a nice bar Bill. My wife's been hearing about good things since then so I finally broke down because it was the anniversary. That night everything went fairly well we got there early worried about parking. I swear to drink the bar. The servers were very friendly and turned out that they came from South Jersey the same town that we were from. We got our table outside and our waitress was also from the same town in South Jersey. I believe we ordered the muscles and appetizer which was very good. My wife ordered some fish and I ordered the yellowtail bowl. My food was very delicious except it wasn't Eye pleasing because of the color of the bowl and lack of color in the food. But that doesn't bother me. Food was good when we mentioned it was our anniversary. They gave us dessert free overall it was a very good experience. I did plenty of pictures except I can't find them. read more

I highly recommend planning extra time to find parking. Street parking is your best option and it takes time to find an open spot. This place is worth it though. We went for lunch on Saturday at 1:00 and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away. We both ordered the burger because it was a brunch menu. I've never had a burger and fries come out SO HOT and I LOVED THAT! It was delicious! The burger was more like one you would get in a dive bar - thin, crispy on the edges - and they put two patties on each - it was perfection with the bun and sauce. This place would have gotten a 5/5, but the water they serve is room temp and a little ice would have been nice sitting outside on a warm day. Very nice spot though! read more

Went here with my family of 5 the night I moved in to Charleston! It is in such a cute spot on Sullivans island, walking distance to the beach and an ice cream shop and has the CUTEST coastal beachy vibe inside that was perfect after just moving to the beach. Our service was great, everyone was very friendly and helpful! She had great drinks recommendations and I loved my cocktail. The most disappointing aspect of this place was the food. We ordered a good amount of different things and everyone tried each others. The resounding response from everything we tried was that it was so SALTY. There were multiple items we couldn't even eat due to the salt. I can't remember the last time we had inedible food due to salt. On top of that, I do believe the food prices are very overpriced for the taste as well as the pretty tiny portions you receive. Because of this, I don't think we will be back to eat here. However, I do think this is a great spot to grab a few drinks! Great vibes and super fun looking cocktails. I will be back for drinks for sure. Loved lunch at The Londboard! Came here with friends for Memorial Day at Sullivan's Island: loved everything! The restaurant is perfectly airy and gives island vibes (for good reason--they have a restaurant on St. Thomas as well!) I thought the teal longboard hanging above the bar was really cool! For drinks, I got a frozen painkiller, while my friends got wadma-law-breakers for Happy Hour ($10 per cocktail!) It was also Oyster Hour, so we got 1/2 dozen Charleston oysters for $12--so delicious we ordered a second batch! We also got the crispy calamari--perfectly crispy and tasty! For actual meals, my friends got salads. I got veggie, fish, and shrimp tacos--all freshly made and very good. I would come here again. I walked to the beach with a full belly and high spirits. I really wanted to like this place, but the experience fell short overall. The biggest issue was the service--it was extremely slow. There was only one waitress handling everything during lunch: hosting, bartending, and serving. While she was doing her best, it clearly wasn't enough to keep up. At one point, I literally watched two couples get up and leave because it took so long for her to even greet them and take a drink order. As for the food, it was a mixed bag. The grilled oysters were absolutely amazing--easily the highlight of the meal and the one thing that stood out in a positive way. Unfortunately, the fried rice was disappointing. It was overcooked and the portion size was smaller than expected. Between the slow service and inconsistent food, it just didn't live up to expectations. I recently visited Long Island Cafe, and the service was genuinely outstanding. The staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming, so the experience started very well. Unfortunately, the food did not match the quality of the service. For a seafood restaurant, I expected much fresher food. The James Island oysters were fresh and enjoyable, although they were around $4 each, but almost everything else seemed heavily fried or reheated. The calamari was especially disappointing, as there was very little actual calamari and mostly oily batter. The fries were soaked in oil, and nearly every dish felt overly greasy. All of us ended up with stomach aches afterwards. The prices were also far too high for the quality and overall experience. For a similar price, you can dine at a much more refined restaurant downtown and receive noticeably better-quality food. Sadly, the pricing, food quality and presentation simply did not match. The restaurant has excellent staff and plenty of potential, but it really needs to focus on fresher seafood, better ingredients and less oily preparation. read more

We had a reservation, but were never seated. We arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation time and were told at that time that they were clearing a table for our party of seven. We waited until 10 minutes past our reservation time (25 mins later) to check in again. We were then told that the people sitting at "our table" still needed to pay. Despite there being no other patrons waiting and there being five consecutive two tops available to be pushed together, we were told that we needed to wait and that it was out of the hostess' control. She could have easily pushed those empty tables together, but she chose not to. 15 minutes past our reservation time, we chose to leave since staff were clearly unwilling to push tables together for us or honor our reservation time. read more

I personally love their Heart & Sol which is a pineapple-serrano infused reposado tequila cocktail, but lately I have also been loving the Smoke Signal, a bourbon and mezcal concoction with spiced honey and bitters. Longboard has a great raw bar and delish sushi wraps which are also a fan favorite among my group! They had this beautiful garlic, hot sauce, everything super fresh and all the sauces and additions made in house!! We had the sliders and fried rice which was so creamy and delish. That was probably one of my favorite drinks I've ever had. Food wise- steak and eggs were good. The crab rolls were totally lacking. At first, the server accidentally brought me the crab salad, which I sent back because I ordered the crab rolls. The crab salad looked AMAZING - huge chunks of crab mixed with avocado! Wow! I wish I had kept it. When I got my crab rolls, I opened them to find about 3 pieces of crab in each roll, so I was eating mostly rice and soy paper, basically. That dish was not good.
