Coast Bar & Grill is a hidden gem in Charleston! Tucked inside a historic warehouse, the space has that perfect mix of coastal charm and laid-back vibes. The seafood here is incredible--you can really taste the difference in the wood-grilled fish and oysters. Everything has this deep, smoky flavor thanks to their custom hickory and oak grill. We came by during happy hour (4:30-6PM daily at the bar) and it was such a good move--great drinks, solid bites, and a super chill atmosphere. The crab dip was a must-try--creamy, loaded with flavor, and served with grilled bread. We also had the salt & pepper calamari (so crispy and that sriracha aioli is no joke) and the crab soup, which was rich and comforting. For mains, I got the grilled spicy adobo shrimp with cheese grits and pineapple chili salsa--such a fun combo of sweet heat. My partner had the pan-seared scallops and hasn't stopped talking about the bacon cheese grits and blue crab étouffée. We lucked out and caught live music in Hutson Alley with Ronnie Johnson--such a great local touch. Also, a nice bonus: they're part of the Holy City Hospitality group, so you can earn rewards for dining here. Don't skip dessert--the apple "fries" and chocolate mousse cake are the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal. Can't wait to come back!

The food was good but took forever. The server was nice about it and did his best to take care of us. Fortunately we did get an appetizer so we were not starving. The scallops were good. The local oysters were tasty. There was a lot of hustle and bustle in the bar area where we were seated.

Came from out of town for the weekend. We needed last minute dinner plans and decided to make a reservation here. The place was tucked away down an alley. The place had a lively atmosphere with a rustic feel. Our waitress was very helpful and gave us Charleston recs for drinks after. I ordered the Surf & Turf - comes with ribeye, salmon, bacon wrapped shrimp, potatoes & vegetables. The beurre blanc sauce paired nicely. The steak was cooked to my liking, as well as the salmon. The bacon wrapped shrimp was a tad bit salty for me. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner and would definitely come again.

This might be my favorite happy hour in Charleston. I'm always a big fan of the ally but this one is a crowd pleaser. I wanted shrimp cocktail and oysters and it did not disappoint. I will say, the crab dip was not for me. The bread tasted like it had chemicals on it from the grill cleaner and the dip tasted fishy not fresh. The server was amazing though and they took it off when they saw we weren't eating it. Loved the cocktails and a big fan of the weekly spritz.

Ate dinner for its low country vibe yet situated in the alley where a makeshift stage was with a band playing. Good food but abundant, true Southern kitchen. Service was excellent. I would only caution on the fresh oysters because the half dozen we had was not so great. Definitely opt for the fried oysters! Conch fritters were good as was the salt n pepper calamari. Fish dishes were great. Not in the pic was a Bass that my friend Austin had he claimed was the best bass he's had! The others also were satisfied with their meals! So despite the not do great fresh oysters on the half shell that shrimp n grits plus the stuffed crab grouper were superb!!!

I got the crab dip and the cashew encrusted mahi. Both were amazing! The mahi was so buttery smooth and the veggies and the potatoes and beans paired perfectly. It was one of those meals you think of when you are hungry. Will definitely go back when I'm in the area. The service was great as well we didn't have a reservation and were seated in minutes and the blowfish lights were so cool and unique. What a wonderful restaurant.

Enjoyed the coast experience many times over the past five years. The location is classic Charleston tucked away in an alley. The low country coastal decor is very cool. The food can be exceptional though inconsistent. Service is the same with sometimes excellent but often less the standard. This most recent visit exemplified this. If I could give a 3.5, I would. The service at the bar bordered on rude. They just experienced the theatre rush. When we sat down, the couple next to us had shrimp on ice that had turned completely to water. Their plates have not been removed. We had to ask to have the bar wiped down and the remaining glasses removed. During our time there on this Friday evening, glasses from previous guests remained at the bar the entire time. The bartenders were a mix of friendly and put out by us being there. We had the shrimp ceviche, the cocktail shrimp, and the conch fritters. They do have some of the best shrimp cocktail in Charleston. Perfectly cooked and balance seasoning. The fritters were hot with a homemade tartar sauce. The cerviche generally good and above average. The bathrooms were not well kept, and there was a large pile of discarded table napkins outside of the bathroom overflowing a large basket that suggests a lack of attention to detail or at worst cleanliness by management. Execution at this iconic restaurant has slipped over the years. Like the tired decor, both need a refresh.

We are visiting Charleston for the first time. A good seafood dinner was the goal. I have never had shrimp and grits. The plate was as beautiful as it was tasty! We also had a calamari appetizer. We have never seen such large pieces. The cocktails were delicious and the service was top notch. We are here for a few more days and will return before we leave. Larry B

Overall, the experience was subpar. The server was working very hard the entire time, but we fell through the cracks. Drinks weren't late, refills were slow, and requests were nearly forgotten. The menu was comprehensive, but well below average. The Surf and Turf was burnt with the steak being well done, requested as medium. The chicken was dry and the grouper sandwich and fish tacos were overly fishy.

The salmon and jumbayla is pretty good. The jumbayla is a little too oily. Prices are a little expensive but atmosphere was nice.

From the moment I walked in, the vibe was intimate, beautiful, and the perfect setting for a relaxed Saturday night cap. What made the experience truly special was the bartender. There's no traditional menu, instead, he takes the time to learn what you like and crafts drinks based on your taste. I've never experienced anything like that before. The level of knowledge and creativity behind the bar was incredible. Every drink he made was stunning and tasted even better than it looked. I was honestly so impressed that I couldn't even remember all the ingredients he mentioned because I was too busy being amazed at how good everything was. It was one of those moments where you realize there are real levels to this craft. I walked in thinking I knew a thing or two about mixing drinks at home, and left with a whole new respect for the art of it. The atmosphere, the personal attention, and the quality of the cocktails made this place feel truly top tier. Huge shoutout to the bartender, easily a 15 out of 10. Cool, knowledgeable, and passionate about what he does. If you're looking for an intimate spot for date night or just want to experience thoughtfully crafted cocktails in a beautiful setting, the Annex is the place. I will absolutely be back as soon as possible.

(On occasion, I rant about how we need more cocktail bars and wine bars that don't serve food at all or just snacks like nuts - don't get me started.) Last Saint is a really cool dual concept cocktail bar. The front of Last Saint is more casual - small, cozy, allows walk-ins. But you can also make reservations (or try to get lucky walking in) at the Annex. The Annex is their weekends-only cocktail experience in the back of Last Saint. You walk to the back of the bar and press ring the bell by the yellow door. Someone answers and seats at one of six seats at the bar and three small (but private) tables. The Annex is a no-menu experience. The friendly and creative staff ask you questions about your preferences for drinks and then make you something that fits the bill. It was personal and fun, and we enjoyed all the drinks we had. A reservation at the Annex is good for a 1.5 hour time frame, which was perfect for us to have two drinks before closing out and heading to our dinner reservation. We sat at the bar, which I loved, because we got to chat with the staff and watch them make our and others' drinks while we enjoyed our creative cocktails. The staff have a wide knowledge of cocktails and an almost endless supply of ingredients to choose from when making your drinks. A truly fun experience. One I haven't had in any other city. I wish there were more bars like Last Saint!

They come as a small plate with three appetizer-sized tacos, and every bite was bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. The Buddy the Elf Burger offers a choice of a single or double patty; ours was cooked perfectly. The smoky bacon really brought everything together and gave it that extra "wow" factor. We rounded things out with the O Come, All Ye Fried Rice with Hanger Steak, which was another winner -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. As if the meal wasn't great enough on its own, we happened to be there while Emily Curtis was performing. She's truly incredible and added such a fun, memorable vibe to the day. I'd be remiss not to mention Kevin our server. Go see him. He was great. The whole team works great together.
