Not cheap but definitely a good value for the quality...

The best meal of my life?? Probably.... Cory provided excellent service throughout... Baby lettuces with poached pear excellent. Filet had tons of flavor with a great seared bark. Sometimes they can be on the bland side but this was flavor packed! Roasted mushrooms were incredible!! Definitely not a low sodium diet, haha. Garlic mashed potatoes were great. No additional butter needed. They are famous for the seven layer coconut cake. It was good, but the other food was even better. Was the most expensive meal of my trip but I was happy to pay it, it was worth it.... Cool, upscale vibe. They say no tennis shoes, but I saw some.....on my feet too. Will definitely come here again...

I'm a local and haven't been here in over 10 years!! The ambiance is amazing, service impeccable and tonight they had tilefish, personally one of my favorite fishes of the sea. The pomegranate brussel sprouts were amazing and not oily. This is one of the best spots for she crab soup as well. I'm definitely coming back more often just for the soup and Brussels!

This may be one of the older restaurants in Charleston but it's still one of the best! We did a quick family trip to Charleston for the weekend and chose the Peninsula Grill for dinner on Saturday night. They delivered! The service was as professional as you would expect from this restaurant. The ambience is also fantastic because while the restaurant was crowded, it was never loud and we were able to have conversations throughout the evening. Our food was superb on every level. From the starters to the steaks that were cooked perfectly, every item was fantastic. And to finish the evening, we had to do their famous coconut cake. While not one person in our family would declare themselves a huge coconut fan, every one of us thought it was one of the best desserts we've ever eaten. Charleston has many, many fantastic restaurants, but the Peninsula Grill remains one of the best!

Ordered: shrimp cocktail-average - good horseradish pomegranate marg- WAY too sweet Moscow mule (Tito's) - average but took so long to come out I was done with my meal by then Mushrooms- DELICIOUS Sauce flight- mediocre at best. Filet- ordered mid rare and it came out close to well done The scallops- mediocre Coconut cake- decent but somewhat dry Honey creme brulee- too much going on for a simple dessert

The service was outstanding although at first they did try to get us to go to their other venue which was next door (forgot the name)- the next couple did go there. We just said no. Anyway, came with a couple who had come here throughout their childhood and wanted the coconut cake. I had a piece too - it was good but not THAT good. Place was way stuffy for me - lots of older folks. This was never on our radar and we went for our friends.

Where do I begin...what a treat! From the quaint and intimate table by the lively bar area, yet still immersed in Charleston ambience. Our steaks were cooked to perfection with a side of roasted garlic that was by far the favorite touch to our meal. Our servers were great with top tier service. If you are in Charleston pls make it a point to dine at the Peninsula Grill. You won't be disappointed! P.S. Leave room for the famous coconut cake.

Came because this is regarded as the best dessert in the world. It was good. I've had better coconut cake in Hawaii. So it's not even the best coconut cake in the world, let alone best dessert in the world.

Came here for dinner, and this was actually where my boyfriend proposed. The staff (specifically our waiter Paul), and the manager (Jess) were so incredibly kind and welcoming to us from the moment we walked in- they went above and beyond to make the moment special for us. The setting was romantic and beautiful both inside and in their courtyard. The food was outstanding - particularly the beef carpaccio, oysters, skirt steak and coconut cake were out of this world. Fresh, flavorful, and balanced for every dish. I thought the steak was perfect on its own without any sauce however they had a lovely selection. I also really enjoyed the sides of shipped potatoes and local mushrooms. Truly a lovely restaurant for any occasion or a delicious dinner. We will certainly be returning here!

We went here for a family dinner, and Peninsula Grill does not disappoint! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is elegant and welcoming. The service was excellent, but the food was the real star. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and the presentation was stunning. They really pay attention to the little details here. Highly recommend for a special night out in Charleston

    Seared Foie Gras

After 3 days of southern meals, I needed a palette cleanse. Popped in here after walking around locally and menu shopping. This restaurant is in The Planters Inn and easily accessed. Did not have a huge appetite due to a family brunch of typical southern biscuits and gravy but was longing for greens and a bit finer offering. I had (2) starters as my meal: Seared Foie Gras - Macadamia Bread, Smoked Pineapple Chutney, Macadamia Cinnamon butter, Pickled Pineapple and Minus 8 Vinegar Artisanal Greens Salad - Brown Butter Sweet Potato, Stilton Blue Cheese, Radish, Speck Ham, Toasted Pecan, Pomegranate Vinaigrette I did not imagine that I would find such bursts of flavor in this beautifully plated salad but I savored every bite. Simple, quality ingredients with a smear of sweet potatoes with a spattering of pomegranate seeds and stilton was delightful! The foie gras with the macadamia bread was rich and delectable. Paired with the sweetness of the macadamia bread and chutney and then the vinegar for another flavor profile was memorable. Dining on the patio in the garden with a slight breeze and the gas lit lanterns was wonderful and encouraged me to slow down a bit and just enjoy. Will admit this was my favorite meal of my trip to Charleston by a country mile. The service, as you would expect was impeccable.

Bring back the veal shop. It was the best steak on your menu and a showstopper. It set you apart from the traditional steakhouse fare at other restaurants.

    Are jackets required for gentlemen?

I always have worn one over the many years when I have enjoyed the food and service at Peninsula Grill, and indeed they used to have jackets for men to wear if they did not wear one, about a decade ago. More recently, I have seen men with dressy…

Can the desserts be ordered for carryout?

Yes I purchased a whole cake and told them when I was able to pickup. Reserve on their website first.

My friend and I sat at our table for about 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I finally flagged down a waitress, who apologized and explained they were short staffed. She took our drink order, and then a different server came over later to take our food order. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap with no onions, but it came out with onions anyway. Our server was nowhere to be found, so I started picking around them and eating the wrap. A few minutes later, she came back with the corrected wrap, but by then I'd already started eating the first one. The flavors of the wrap were actually good, but the texture of the chicken was awful. It was so off putting that it honestly made me nauseous. I only managed a few bites before I was done, and no one ever asked if everything was okay or why I had barely touched my meal. That said, the restaurant itself is beautiful. The atmosphere is what really stands out. It feels like you're dining inside a church, and I believe it actually is a restored church. Between the stained glass, the artwork, and the writing on the walls, it's a really unique and impressive space. I'd probably come back for drinks because the bar looked like it had a great vibe, and the bartender seemed to be providing excellent service. Next time, I'd definitely sit at the bar, but I don't think I'd order the food again.
