My husband and I came for our anniversary a week ago and when I tell you we are today, still thinking and smiling about our experience..!!! We will probably remember this one for a while. First, we came a little early just to check out the scene and the managers/hosting staff were so kind and encouraging us to sit and relax at the bar before our table was ready. The bar had live music, the bartenders were fast and funny, and the drinks were Fantastic! We laughed and and had fun before the host came and Brigid to our table. Our waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu, knew and acknowledged that we were celebrating our anniversary, and made sure to keep watch and check in throughout our time. The managers were all walking around and even gave us complimentary champagne and dessert to celebrate with us. So so fun and we were overjoyed! Outside of the service and ambiance, the food was top tier. My husband got the shrimp and grits (loved it) and I got one of their steak specials (kept me quiet as I dug in). We shared the okra, lobster Mac and cheese. So so so good. We frequently dine at many of the higher-end restaurants in downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant, so we arrived with high expectations, especially given this restaurant's connection to the Halls group. The dining room is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality level or price point of the restaurant. When entrées range from $65-$70 for fish, $80+ for steaks, and side dishes approach $14 or more, guests reasonably expect an elevated and attentive dining experience. Throughout the evening, our server seemed rushed and disengaged. Despite our efforts to be friendly and conversational, interactions felt brief and transactional. A drink order was delivered incorrectly, and rather than improving as the meal progressed, the service became increasingly impersonal. We never felt particularly welcomed or valued as guests. A special night out with a $300-$400 check should feel memorable for the right reasons. While the food and atmosphere were good, the overall experience fell short of what we have come to expect from restaurants operating in this category and at this price level. We are glad we gave it a try, but in the future we'll likely choose other Charleston-area restaurants that deliver a more polished and hospitality-focused experience when entertaining family and friends from out of town. read more

At first we were irritated because our 11:15AM reservation had a delay in being seated (and we were on a time crunch), but honestly, everything afterwards was so good, I almost forgot about it! We were up front with staff about needing to be done by 12:45pm, and they 100% delivered! We were seated at a gorgeous table right by the windows. We loved the decor and overall ambiance, with classic Charleston paintings on the walls. The fans in the main room are also very pretty! For cocktails, we got peach nectar mimosas: SO GOOD!!! Our friends got Bloody Mary's, which they also enjoyed. For appetizers, my sister got a cup of the creamy crab soup (SO GOOD!) and we shared the crispy calamari (also good!) for my main, I ordered the Eggs Benedict with cheesy grits, my sister ordered the Crab Eggs Benedict with potato hash, and our friends ordered the High Cotton Cinnamon Roll, egg whites omelet, and the chicken and waffles. In town on vacation for a couple of days this was our first diner spot. Just first walking in you can tell the service was gonna be good. We were greeted with such hospitality by all the staff. They did not disappoint, from start to finish so attentive and such exceptional service and the food matched the vibe perfect ! It was a lovely place with very kind staff. However, I am someone with many allergies and it was difficult for me to eat. They promised that my food would be made a specific way, but when it came out, it was not made correctly (came out without any modifications from the menu). So I had to wait for my food to be remade and once it came out again I was excited. However, I am someone with insane strict allergies, the more simple the food the better. Also, please note that I do not choose to go out to eat- I usually actively avoid going out to eat. This is the first time since my diagnosis that I went out because I wanted to see if I would ever be able to enjoy a restaurant again. With that being said, after explaining that I needed bland food with no additional things added on it, I was shocked to see that my fruit bowl came with honey drizzled on top of it. I had already eaten some of the fruit before noticing and once I did notice I stopped eating it since I cannot have honey. The server was extremely kind and she was doing her best to help assist me. We had the best window seat in the house beautiful views and a warm, elegant atmosphere that felt perfect for a celebration. The food was incredible start to finish. The ranch with those must be made in house because it was very different and so tasty. Lastly, the strawberry cake was so good! Our server, Brandon (B for short) was outstanding! He was very kind and very attentive. One thing that really stood out here was the community among the staff. We were greeted and checked on at our table by several staff members. I've had better, especially when bacon is involved, but they were still good. I had the special, which was swordfish with beans, swimming in lobster bisque, dressed in crisp greens. It was a DELICIOUS meal, complex flavors that burst in my mouth. The sword fish was prepared expertly. I am so glad I took the chance! After a few unsuccessful attempts to get into one of their sister restaurants, High Cotton was recommended as a great place for dinner. The food, the people, the ambience, it was everything that I had hoped for a holiday dinner! To me, it was like an upscale-semi-casual restaurant. You'd see people wearing everything from fancy outfits to khakis with polos, and even a few dressed up jeans. We arrived a little early so that we could have a drink at the bar, and found two open seats. When our table was ready, the hostess came and got us from the bar and took us to the table, which was right around the time of our reservation, so there was no long delay. My SO got the she-crab soup and said it was probably some of the best he's ever had. Overall, it was my favorite meal throughout my entire vacation which also included other upscale restaurants. I chose the swordfish for dinner, which was absolutely memorable in the best way. I'm still drooling about it! It was a little more crowded than I would've liked, but it didn't have that stuffy atmosphere which I also appreciated. By the time we left, there was music playing by the bar. My daughter, wife, and I enjoyed a fabulous meal at High Cotton during our overnight stay in Charleston. Even on a Monday evening, the dining room was busy when we arrived for our 8 p.m. seating. We had made a reservation a couple of days in advance and were glad we did. We were seated in a comfy raised semicircle booth. Live music wafted in from the room next door. One of the owners was visiting tables and stopped by to thank us for coming by. Nice touch. My daughter started with a lovely High-Thyme cocktail made with gin, thyme, and blackberries. We had a nice Barolo red wine for the table that they decanted for us when asked. A bread basket appeared to help take the edge off for our late dinner. My daughter ordered the wagyu, my wife ordered scallops, and I ordered the prime rib steak. The wagyu had a smoky, bacon-like taste that was delicious. The scallops were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. My medium-rare steak was rich and meaty. We also shared sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus, which were yummy. To cap everything off, we shared a mini hummingbird cake and a slice of chocolate cheesecake. The hummingbird cake was our favorite, but the cheesecake was no slouch. Service was top-notch, and it was a team effort to deliver all our meals at the same time. Everyone was friendly, kind, and enjoyable to chat with. What a lovely place located at the French Quarters. Parking was a bit tough but we were able to find street parking a few blocks away. Oysters were fresh and clean. Smoked duck was delicious and filling, perfectly paired with brussel sprouts and some glaze. We also ordered some asparagus and rib eye, all were tasty and perfectly cooked! I could tell this place make sure their guests are having the best service and experience. Drinks were also made very well, and not too sweet. I was eager to try the Gospel Brunch at High Cotton and booked a reservation for Saturday morning. The Plantation Singers are a wonderful gospel group based in Charleston. They sing and perform continuously in the Lounge area which is located in a separate area as you enter High Cotton. im glad they are in the Lounge as their voices would be a bit too much if they were stationed in the main dining room. The brunch entrees do not disappoint and as I always order a healthier alternative when I can I was happy to see the Yogurt Bowl offered so I ordered it without hesitation. It was wonderful.
