It is one of the most stunning, beautiful restaurants in Charleston. Spanning two floors with bars on each and lovely outdoor seating. The attention to detail around the physical experience from the dishware with creative colorful prints to higher end glassware to comfortable seating is truly exceptional. It should be the ideal setting for a wonderful meal, but it falls short with service and the quality of the food for its price point. This review spans three visits. You get a lot of insight from time at the bar. Two of our experiences were at the bar. In both instances, the bartenders were less experienced, and not super attentive. During one of our visits, the bartender got two of our orders wrong. On another occasion, our order was pasta, and it took more than five minutes to get the bartenders attention to provide Parmesan cheese. These are the little details that kept getting missed. My wife had a second glass of wine and the bartender suggested a different vintage that was $23 a glass. She didn't let us know. She responded not by saying sorry, but saying they raised the prices recently on everything. The bartenders just seemed undertrained, looking at how to make mixed drinks. Not what you would expect for this level of restaurant and price point. It seems to be a training issue. During one visit, our server was very nice and attentive. For me, the food was the biggest challenge. The oysters were fresh and very flavorful and well presented. The Stagionale salad with walnuts, goat, cheese, beets, masculine greens, marinated pears, and an apple vinaigrette didn't have the flavor profile I would expect and was rather dull, probably due to too little vinaigrette and raw walnuts that were flavorless. The tortellini Wagyu missed the mark without the complex flavor profiles you would expect. It was so subtle making it unremarkable. The pollo Milanese was the most disappointing. The chicken was dry probably because it was so thin. It had more crust than chicken substance more like Popeyes chicken. The pineapple in the arugula threw me off and was not traditional. Rarely do we not finish a dish, but in this case we didn't. We tried the restaurant several times to give it a fair assessment. I want it to be successful. I debated what score to give to give. In the end, it wasn't average, it was disappointing. Note that I did provide feedback to management on my visits and it was appreciated, but I don't think it really landed. Hopefully, Lagami will quickly adjust and deliver excellence in this amazing location on King Street. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon Legami after catching our sister's show at Forte Jazz Lounge just a few steps away, and wow... what an unexpected gem on King Street! For dinner, we ordered the Scarlet Lamb and the Southern Duck, and both dishes were absolutely phenomenal -- flavorful, beautifully plated, and cooked to perfection. We also started with the oysters, which were fresh and the perfect way to kick off the evening. The cocktails deserve their own applause because the "Mambo Italiano" and "Sailor's Moon" were crafted perfectly and paired beautifully with dinner. The ambiance was intimate, stylish, and upscale without feeling stuffy -- the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, enjoy the music, and stay awhile. Charleston has no shortage of amazing restaurants, but Legami truly felt like one of those hidden gems you're excited to tell people about after you discover it yourself. I'm so sorry but I just had to make this review. The service itself was great. Our main server was great. The one at the front had a bit of an attitude but I understand. The place itself is beautiful and they had some of the nicest restrooms I've seen in a restaurant. BUT... getting brunch here was a massive mistake. Drove down to enjoy a meal to start the day, but that burger was awful and it honestly ruined my morning. This may have been the first time I've eaten something that caused me to vomit an hour later. I let the waiter choose my dish but I was confused on why I wasn't asked how I wanted the burger done. The burger tasted great but half way into it I realized the meat was REALLY pink. I made the assumption that the crew knew what they were doing and trusted the quality of the meat since (1) I wasn't asked how I wanted the meat done and (2) they made it this pink without any knowledge of my preferences. So, right after I ate the burger my abdomen started to hurt until I eventually puked it up. It resulted in about two to three hours of extreme pain and discomfort. My first experience with Legami was good albeit a bit different. I had called ahead to see if they were accepting walk ins to which they said yes and if we came in the next 30 minutes that would be nonissue. When my friend and I arrived 30 minutes later per their request, mentioning we were walk-ins, they appeared a bit confused wouldnt wouldn't sit us without making a last minute reservation. We waited a few extra minutes while they punched in our Resy info before seating us. Not knocking them for this, I just thought the whole thing was odd. We originally came in for restaurant week but opted to try their regular menu. Both my friend and I ordered the oxtail ragu that was delicious! I also ordered two oysters as an app, the focaccia, and we each had a martini. Our server was nice and on top of everything. Overall the prices are fair, the atmosphere warm and dark. I would recommend dressing up for this experience. While there were people in leggings and ugg slipper I would save those for something a little more casual. read more

Went there the other night with my girlfriend and had a great experience. We sat at the upstairs bar area which I would highly recommend. It felt lively but still intimate and was a great spot to settle in for the night. Food was excellent across the board. The scallop crudo was a standout and the duck was unreal. Oh my goodness, this place was so good! I had the Roasted Chicken Agrodolce which was served over this sweet carrot crema. It was melt in your mouth good! My fiancé had the Pappardelle Al Ragu, he said the handmade noodles and sauce were to die for. We also enjoyed the Misticanza salad, but I thought the balsamic was a bit strong and the spiced honey ricotta packed a sweet heat punch to the Focaccia. I dont know if I would add on the ricotta again, I think focaccia is delicious on its own. We sat upstairs for dinner and it was a very romantic setting, but it was a bit loud in the room since there was a large table next to us, coupled with wood flooring. At times, I had to repeat myself to my partner across the table. However, I will say the service was great, our food came quickly and our server was knowledgeable on the food and changes they've made to the menu. I can't believe Legami wasn't on my radar until recently! We had an incredible dinner with outstanding drinks. The Legami Martini truly made its mark with the burrata-stuffed olives. We tried the oysters, which were uniquely paired with pickled onions. The added crunch gave them an unexpected texture that actually worked surprisingly well together. The Shrimp Kataifi was another favorite. I had never had anything like it before, but I do wish the portion included more than three shrimp for the price. I brought my bestie here to celebrate her birthday and we had a great time! I let them know we were celebrating because I wanted her to feel special and they definitely delivered! We started with some complimentary champagne (always a plus)! We ordered the burrata, shrimp kataifi, tagliolini lobster, pappardelle al ragu, a scallop dish, and the focaccia rosemarino (with herb ricotta spicy honey). The cook and season on everything was phenomenal. The shrimp were the star of the show for starters - the crisp was perfect. My lobster dish was incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. I hate when you get lobster and it ends up being a chewy fishy mess but this was perfect. I think we would skip the focaccia or the burrata next time as our table was full of bread and we ordered too many items (but you still need to get one of them)! For dessert, we went with the millefoglie and the torta legami. 10/10, dessert is my favorite course and they delivered! We also had their zero proof sparkling wine and the Into The Cosmos mocktail - again, excellent. Our service was great and I love the vibes in the restaurant - clean and modern. I think every restaurant is too dark, but I'm 35 going on 90, so that's a "me" problem. read more

They have 4 or more different experiences to eat in that can transport you straight to Italy! We sat upstairs in an indoor/outdoor area and the lighting was perfect! We got to really experience the menu with delicious cocktails and N.A. beverages along with their apps and pastas, everything was so delicious and I really recommend to order various dishes so you can share! The dessert was so light and airy and then to finish it off with a lemon cello was perfect! Our server was attentive and checked on our table often. For the food part, we started with the piattini, I really enjoyed the beef tartare but we also ordered the burrata and crispy polenta. We probably should have known to cancel our reservation when we came in and it was near empty at 7:30pm on a Thursday. But, we trusted the hype and took our table. We went recently for a celebration meal. Parking is super easy at the visitors center deck. The hostess was super helpful with some last minute changes to our reservation. We sat in the lounge area which is cozy and cute but gets loud with the placement of speakers. Overall, the inside is beautifully done. Our waiter was decent but not great. She did an excellent job of noting this information and guiding the last member of our party to our table. The decor and aesthetics of the restaurant were stunning. For the table, we ordered the crudo of the day and the focaccia rosemarino with whipped ricotta nduja. The crudo itself was good, but I was not impressed with the plating. Visually, I think the fish could and should have been sliced thinner. Additionally, the fried capers were tossed in salt, and then the crudo was garnished with flaky salt on top of that. As you might guess, the dish was far too salty. However, I really enjoyed the warm focaccia and whipped ricotta nduja. For my entrée, I ordered the lobster risotto. As stunning as this dish looked, the taste did not match up. The risotto was painfully undercooked and unseasoned. The saving grace of this dish was the lobster, which was cooked and seasoned well. Would I order this again? Probably not. However, I would gladly stop by again for drinks and appetizers. read more

What a wonderful outdoor setting to have dinner had a few martinis opened up a bottle of Sun and order some small bites. Fantastic evening.

Let me preface this by saying, I absolutely love dining out with my dog. But if you're planning to bring your pup to Legami during a heat advisory, you might want to think twice--or at least be ready for some "interesting" adventures in outdoor dining. When we arrived, naturally, we were seated outside, as we hadn't made any special arrangements (rookie mistake). Thankfully, there were fans to combat the Southern heat, but those fans also served as a perfect vehicle for the soft-spoken waiter, whose attempts to explain specials or take our order were completely drowned out by the whirring of the blades. Every time he spoke, we found ourselves squinting and leaning in like we were trying to hear a secret code. By the end of it, I felt like a broken record, asking him to repeat himself. I'm sure I wasn't the only one--our neighbors at the next table had the same issue and creatively concocted a story about being deaf in one ear to avoid the awkwardness. We would have been amused if we weren't already in the middle of a struggle ourselves. Then there was the water situation. After ordering sparkling water to stave off the heat, our server brought over a glass that had fingerprints on it, as if it had been polished by a toddler with greasy fingers. While we saw him later perfecting his glass-polishing skills at another table, it was a little late for first impressions. And, if you're someone who appreciates water refills and attentive service, you might feel neglected here. We had to ask another waiter for a simple glass of tap water after being left high and dry. The same went for the dog--a water bowl, which I honestly thought would be a given, had to be requested, and even then, it was like we were asking for a golden chalice of water. Oh, and don't even get me started on the wine chiller. We were treated like inconveniences, not guests. On the plus side, the food was decent--my lobster risotto was flavorful, and my husband's ragu, which turned out to be oxtail, was a solid choice (though a bit too gelatinous for his liking). But, considering the premium price, I'd hoped for more than just the basic offering. The cherry on top? The manager seemed unfazed by our feedback, and our waiter, perhaps in a small act of passive resistance, took his sweet time bringing us the check. We left the place feeling like we'd just survived a slightly uncomfortable date, only to realize it was unlikely there would be a second one. Would we try Legami again? Maybe--sans dog and only if we're prepared to endure less-than-stellar service. read more

From the time we walked in here (saw it from across the street at the Darling) it was an amazing experience. The bartender, Dane, was absolutely incredible... he did an exceptional job explaining the drink and food menu leading us to the absolute best decisions (see pics). The Legami Martini (Calabrian Chili-washed, dirty, with Blue cheese olives) and the Shhh Club Above (Raspberry, Basil, Lemon, Egg white with Prosecco) stunningly handcrafted for our first round. Had to try the Kings Smoke (Spicy Margarita) also fresh and very tasty. It's such a cozy atmosphere and, dare I say, opulent feel; we felt well-cared for. As we waited for our food, the GM Terrell, came over and engaged us. Told us all about the acquisition and build out of the previously acquired space. We had no idea there was an upstairs AND outdoor seating. An absolutely wonderful story of an international family business coming to Charleston. The food arrived. Exquisite. The burrata and ravioli had a beautiful presentation and very tastefully seasoned and garnished. The pasta was surprisingly delicate and flavorful. Anyway... I oils go on, but you have to try this pls e. When we were done, the owner, Eldridge, gave us a tour of the rest of the place. Stopped in for tartare and cocktails! Katrina at the bar was so helpful and attentive. She answered all our questions about the cocktail menu and steered us in the right direction. We decided on the Shhh! Club above and it was delicious. The tartare was a fun approach with the cured egg yolk butter. Truly rich and decadent. I typically like a crispy vessel for eating my tartare such as a chip or cracker but the bread this was served with was much warmer and cozier! Big expectations for this one since the chef has a Michelin star from his prior restaurant in Rome and the review is heavily influenced by the $600 price tag/bill. Welcoming and attentive staff who, after very minimal wait, sat us at the living room, upstairs - gorgeous setting with a lovely custom made banquet seat and stunning marble table that comfortably sat our group of six. The AC was cranked up so we were all quite cold - nothing a sweater couldn't solve. Our wine we brought was decanted and we picked a Pinot from the wine list to start- no warning it was a natural wine so that threw us all off a bit (yuck). We ordered the hamachi, the entire Piattini section of the menu (except the lobster, octopus, and squab), plus the cappelletti. Some dishes were tiny and by the end of the "first course" of 9 dishes, we were all still hungry and went on to order the mains; lamb, chicken, grouper and the tortellini. It was nice to not have to order everything at once.... A serious pet peeve, (albeit insensitive) from someone who's never worked in a kitchen a day in their life. The small plate highlights were the focaccia, the potatoes, and the beet salad. The fois gras wasnt great, the polenta were arguably croutons they were so tiny and the hamachi crudo was unappealing altogether. It was delivered slightly warm and there was an effervescent sauce that completely put me off. The dish was left half full. Entrees were good- grouper was luke warm and the lamb was a bit skinny. Chicken moist and the tortellini was unexpected. Flavors were very well developed and plating was phenomenal. The plates and bowls selected for each dish were super pleasing and really unique. Dessert were choux buns for the birthday girl- delicious lemony cream and a delicate sugared presentation. Yum! Overall, it's a 4 star because of the portion sizes for the cost and the level of attentiveness for this level of dining (deeper familiarity with the wine list or pull in a somm, clean plates and utensils between courses). Flavors are great- some kinks to work out before we return. Side note: the bar upstairs is gorgeous and we enjoyed a drink after on the long settee. This space is truly beautiful. The outdoor area is dreamy and well covered for significant shade in the Charleston heat and they have an indoor/outdoor bar. We got a variety of cocktails and enjoyed each one. For food we got both salads, the crispy polenta and the tortellini. Everything was beautifully plated but the portion size was very, very small for the price point. The salads were our two favorite bites but ultimately were $17 for smaller salads without a protein. The majority of cocktails are $18 which is more on par for a rooftop than just a pretty space off King. The polenta and tortellini both were okay. The tortellini sounded phenomenal on paper but it ate very dry and heavy with the puff pastry around it. I think the flavors are there but the dish will ultimately be reworked. And again, a very small portion for $31. I do think there are some kinks being worked out which is to be expected with any new space. I really wish the best for this space because there is so much potential. read more

WOW! This is my favorite meal in Charleston to date. From the beautiful garden we were sitting in to the cafe of the staff I have zero complaints! We started our meal with the whipped ricotta, 5/5-the sautéed zucchini with the ricotta was the perfect mix of salty with creamy. Our family got a mix of the entres but I got the crab pasta dish, and the spicy but tangy flavors were stunning. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the crab was extremely tender. As someone who grew up in a full Italian household it's been hard to find my favorite local Italian restaurant. This may be it! Cannot wait to go back! We did not try any desserts but the Aperol spritz was yummy! read more
