I had a great experience at this restaurant, the drinks are a little pricey but the food is worth every penny. My husband and I were in town visiting Charleston and made a reservation at Le Farfalle after doing a bit of research on the best Italians spots. Le Farfalle did not disappoint. The star of the show was the whipped ricotta- I would go back just to have it again! We also enjoyed the Fusilli Lunghi (personally would not get again, but I think this was just my personal taste buds) and the Rigatoni Verde (delicious)! We had dinner at Le Farfalle during our recent trip to Charleston and had a really enjoyable experience. The atmosphere and ambiance were awesome and made for a great date night. This was actually one of the few restaurants we didn't reserve before our trip, and because of its popularity, the best reservation time we could get was 8:30 p.m. After eating there, I can see why it's so popular. The late reservation was absolutely worth it. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel, and with the later reservation time, the weather was perfect for an evening stroll through Charleston. It ended up being a really enjoyable walk both to and from the restaurant. Service throughout the evening was excellent. Our waiter did a great job all night. As we were ordering, he mentioned that the chefs prefer that guests place their entire order at one time and that the kitchen would pace everything appropriately. My wife and I usually like to stagger our order because we don't like feeling rushed, but we went along with their recommendation. Unfortunately, the timing didn't work out quite as planned. Our bruschetta came out quickly, and not long after, the kitchen sent over a complimentary braised artichoke appetizer. Soon to follow came the Caesar salads. Before we knew it, we had two appetizers and two salads on the table all at once. This was a disappointment because it made the meal feel rushed and took away a little from what was otherwise a special evening. We mentioned it to our waiter, and he was extremely apologetic. The restaurant did their best to make things right. They continued to check on us throughout the evening to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Our waiter brought each of us a complimentary plum spritz, and treated us to dessert. That level of service and attention did not go unnoticed. Both of us ordered the Chicken Parmesan with spaghetti, and it was really good. The chicken was crispy, just the way I like it, the marinara sauce was excellent, and the spaghetti made for a great accompaniment. We finished with the pistachio cheesecake. Yum, yum. Even though the pacing of the first part of the meal wasn't ideal, the food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. We'd definitely go back the next time we're in Charleston. read more

Unfortunately, where I was seated every time I looked at my wife I also saw a load of dust between the mirrors above my wife. It was disgusting. I tried to get a good picture of it but the back light from a window was very bright. I included the picture. Amazing food and service! Our favorites in order were the artichokes, the duck agnolotti, the grilled cabbage, the bread service, the rigatoni verde. The Chianti was amazing too. We've been here 3 times now and I will go back! I gave it four stars because of the ambiance. It was very dark and cold in the main part of the restaurant and on a sunny day we would have liked a brighter ambiance. They could open up the blinds in this room which were completely shut. There is a lot of great Italian in Charleston so will probably try a couple of those before coming back. If you can get a booth here it looked like that room was brighter and close to the bar so more lively. Otherwise we had a great time! read more

We started with a cucumber lemon mocktail and an Old Fashioned--both were refreshing and hit the spot. For dinner, we shared the chicken parm and spaghetti pomodoro. The chicken parm was thin, crispy, cheesy, and baked to perfection, while the spaghetti was perfectly al dente with just a kick of chili to make it pop. Le Farfalle is one of Charleston's best Italian restaurants. There's a nice large bar to enjoy, and ample seating inside. Service was friendly and engaging from the moment we arrived. We had reservations for a Sunday night, and our server Joe was quick to greet us after we arrived. He delivered friendly service all night, which began with a thorough knowledge of the menu. We had starters of rosemary focaccia and braised artichokes. The focaccia is a must order, it's so soft and delicious. It's served with 3 sides of olive oil, marinara, and my favorite whipped ricotta. The braised artichokes, was a pass for me. No flavor, too soft a texture. Their entree menu has a nice variety of house made pastas. We chose fusilli lunghi, and rigatoni bolognese. Both were delicious flavorful entrees, with the pastas served perfectly al dente. The rigatoni was made with spinach, and the meat sauce was meaty and with a balanced tomato sauce. We ended our dinner, with carrot cake and chocolate cake. Yum! The chocolate cake was amazing, it was moist, velvety, and rich in chocolate flavor. A round of espresso martinis helped top off our dinner, and we ended the night with a rich appreciation of this experience. read more

Was in Charleston for a bachelorette party and Le Farfalle was able to accommodate our large group of 11 for an 8pm dinner. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We got 3 different appetizers, the Caesar Salad, fried calamari, and the rosemary focaccia bread (focaccia is a must try, it was so good!) Unfortunately, if you're looking for the best Italian in Charleston, this isn't it. Everything was hit or miss the whipped ricotta and baguette was good. The artichoke tasted like it had jarred Alfredo on it. The chicken Parmesan was bland and dry, the $70 lamb chop was overcooked and drenched in sauce. The cocktails were good and the server was amazing just not worth the price you're paying. I wish I had a better review to offer. read more

The garden, interior were beautiful and the staff member (Kellie F) was wonderful. Next time, I'll order something else or stick to appetizers and a cocktail in the garden. I'd give a 1 but the staff was extremely kind and the space is lovely. The driving factor for the review was the food and cutlery. I was so excited to order chicken Marsala scallopini and pasta after it was overdue (5yrs) since last visit. I ordered chicken Marsala and it looked pretty but sadly it smelled and tasted flavorless. Flavorless chicken Marsala and pasta is not worth $45 and more like $15. The temperature of the food was off. It was slightly higher than lukewarm, which makes me think it had been sitting. Maybe adding parsley and salt would give it a better taste. It was quite bland. I'm not a huge salt fan but could tell it was under seasoned. The knife provided was very dull and very difficult to cut the chicken. Usually if done right you can cut with a fork and absolutely cut easily if with a knife. Next, no spoon was given despite serving a long pasta noodle. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to twirling your pasta with a spoon for consumption. read more

The meatballs were a little strange with the currants but the meat and sauce were both tasty. The focaccia bread was very tasty and we liked the different dipping sauces. Incredible experience here. We accidentally showed up a day before our reservation (whoops) but were able to sit at the bar and receive the same service. The bartender (I believe her name was Alex) was super friendly and helpful, and our food came out extremely quickly. Their gluten-free alternatives were also great- the pasta wasn't falling apart like normal GF pasta, and I was able to swap veggies for the baguette so I could still enjoy the whipped ricotta. We share all of our food but we got the jumbo shrimp cocktail (the cocktail sauce is to die for) 10/10. the warm rosemary focaccia was delicious 8/10, and the Caesar was the best Cesar I've had 10/10. For entrees we shared the Fusilli Lunghi, it needed more pepper for me. My husband and I met friends in town last minute for dinner. We've been once before, but only for a delicious cocktail before our dinner reservations (across the street) were ready. When we arrived they were at the bar and luckily had finagled two seats for us as we were on our way. They had already ordered the WARM ROSEMARY FOCACCIA served with Tomato Sugo, Whipped Ricotta & Olive Oil, the CAESAR- Romaine Hearts, Garlic Breadcrumbs, Parmigiano Vinaigrette and the OCTOPUS CARPACCIO Roasted Tomatoes, Pickled Eggplant, Fett'unta so we got to try all of these before we even got our drinks, and OMG, that bread was crispy, yet soft, yet spongy, and oh so succulent before even dipping them in all the three sides. I highly Recommend getting this for the table!!! Next up the Caesar, it was definitely a large size. My friend at all she could and I finished it for her lol. I am one though that likes a legit Caesar with anchovies so by adding the Octopus capriccio on top made it extraordinary!!!! It literally melts in your mouth. While washing all this yumminess down with our waters, wine and dirty martinis. I was talked into the AG N O L O T T I - Duck Confit, Funghi Misti, Parmigiano Reggiano recommended by the bartender, and my husband the good ol' chicken Parmesan over spaghetti. I'm not a huge chicken person (it's a texture thing) but I ate around the edges of the chicken with even amounts of spaghetti and probably managed to eat a good 1/4 of the dish. However, my Agnolotti was one of the best stuffed pasta dishes my mouths ever come in contact with, and I'm from the North. My friend does not have an adventurous palate, would not try the octopus, but when she heard and watched me melt over the melting in my mouth, she decided to try. After one bite, she was sold and said she'd never think she'd order duck, but she would come back just for this dish! Bam!!!!!! So try it, it won't disappoint. Honestly I'm pretty sure I could try every item on the menu and it wouldn't disappoint, so I guess I need to get me and my husbands butts back here sooner than later to try out more! My fiancé and I have been trying to check Le Farfalle out for a while and were very excited when we got a Resy notification saying they had a table for two that became available. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy and welcoming. They have an outdoor patio that was super cute and also a nice bar area for some casual dining. We started the night off with the Caesar Salad and the warm rosemary focaccia bread that comes with three dipping options. Both were tasty and I loved the tomato sugo dipping option for the bread. We then ordered two dirty talk martinsi which were amazing! The black pepper vodka added a great touch to the drink and the ricotta stuffed olives were amazing! I had the Rigatoni Verde as my entree and he ordered the Mezze Maniche. You could taste the freshness on the Ragu bolognese. His plate sort of tasted like mine? So I couldn't really tell what the difference was. Over all, both were tasty and we left feeling full and happy that we finally got to check this place out! It's behind the corner so after finally finding it we were seated quickly since we had reservations. We were told they were sold out of bread..... an Italian restaurant that is famous for their viral warm bread being sold out at dinner time, is an epic failure. Considering they are charging for bread that most places serve complimentary was extremely disappointing. Main entrees were not bad. 3/5 but not worth the hype. Had the cheese pasta and the duck ravioli. Dessert was also just average. Service took a very long time. We were checked on a couple of times. Not bad. Vibe and decor was nice, nothing to rave about but not bad. Overall, average spot. Being sold out of bread is reason for 2 rather than 3 for the review. Mid spot. read more

Second time coming here because it's just that good. Our waitress brought us out 2 extra appetizers to try and it was awesome. Highly recommend the focaccia bread with the whipped ricotta. The artichokes appetizer was small but so delicious. Meatballs were standard but their red sauce is super good. Make sure you sit at the bar and have Jamison as your server! He was so fun and knowledgeable and just a great person to talk to! We couldn't get a reservation in the dining room but put our name on the list for a table at the bar. The bar is gorgeous with vaulted ceilings and some open seating along the bar. Top to grab drinks while you wait. We started off with octopus carpaccio, which was massive! Paper, thin octopus, cured with lemon and seasonings, it was not chewy at all. We really wanted to try the whipped ricotta but saw the warm focaccia on the menu which came with whipped ricotta. The focaccia was warm and cooked perfectly with rosemary. It came with a side of whipped ricotta, olive oil, and tomato sauce. By the time we got to entrees, we were full, but this place is known for their pasta so we had to get it! I got the agnolotti with duck and it was so yummy. Typically when I order duck, I feel like it's a little bit too salty but not this. My friend got the squid ink pasta, which came with mini shrimp cooked in it and was not too fishy. They have a great wine menu and even offered dessert, but we were stuffed. Fresh and tasty Italian in a large format restaurant with a well stocked bar. As large as the venue was, the servers were intimate and created an environment of inside information to the best tasting items on the menu. All reco's were good, splitting a caesar's salad with my dining mate and enjoying some excellently prepared pasta. We left full, happy and needed the walk back to the hotel to burn some calories while we chatted about how hard it is to stop eating good food when your body needs to tell us to stop but the taste buds are not regulating for diets! I thought I'd already reviewed Le Farfalle, but Yelp is dunning me for a review, so I guess not. Okay, we were happy to have made reservations for an early evening supper - got right in and were treated wonderfully by Michael R. The patio is lovely and room is pretty . . . but it's loud. Or, it was while the louts at the table next to us were shouting along with their drinks - it quieted quite a bit when they left and the elegance of the restaurant began reasserting itself. The food was, well, kinda mixed. My bucatini main was very good; my wife reported her linguine were great. Our pre-dinner drinks (negroni and Garden Party) were fine - I didn't think the negroni was all that and backed it up with some local IPA (tasty) but my wife got a second GP. The rosemary focaccia was filling but nothing special and the Sicilian meatballs were just not that impressive - loose and without anything that set them apart for me. I was really happy with the amari list to construct a flight (really good choices) and my wife liked her limoncello. Upshot: Le Farfalle was solid - especially the room, the mains and the fantastic service - but there were a lot of things that just didn't hit for us. $10 for meh bread and $12 for meh meatballs? $14 for a meh negroni? Okay, fine - but I wish I'd had a pre-dinner amari flight instead because the post-prandial one was flat-out fantastic. Perfectly happy with the mains, though - and I can't say enough good about how well Michael took care of us. We are likely to return on our next jaunt to the Holy City. read more

Oh Le Farfalle, how the mighty have fallen. Our $200+ meal last night in their extremely dark dining room was so very disappointing. The octopus carpaccio we fell in love with two years ago was served freezing cold and mostly devoid of flavor except for the tomato garlic bruschetta taste bombs scattered throughout. Our negronis were very Campari forward without much gin. I mean, we like Campari a lot but these were definitely missing much gin. We also got a bottle of wine to go with our dinner that was good but they place the bottles in the center of the room instead of on your table so you have to wait for the waiter to refill your glass. That was sort of off-putting. Our entrees arrived with two different servers a few minutes apart which was strange and we weren't sure where our second entrees was and were lukewarm at best. The pasta in the Pepe y Caccio was super dense and stiff, not tender at all. The chicken added was diced up instead of strips or a breast. The sauce was pretty good except for the whole peppercorn in it that was a surprise. The linguini with lemon sauce was so very disappointing flavor wise and so heavily sauced and one note that the crab flavor was completely obliterated. The Broccoli Rabe with beans arrived steaming hot and was tasty. I took offense when our bearded waiter tossed our check on the table and walked away to wait on another table. No "thank you for dining with us" or "hope you enjoyed your meals" or even "I'll just leave this here for you and come by in a few." Nothing. Just plunked that check down and left.
