Came here for some gelato on a super hot day. They don't have many flavors, but they have some good options. I had the espresso gelato and it was really good! It had a strong espresso flavor. My sister had the salted caramel and she loved it. I thought it was too sweet on its own but paired with the espresso, it was perfect!

Every bartender we met on our first day, recommended Carmella's for dessert and the Frosetto's. Well now I know why!!! Hubs chose the lemon drop Frosetto & I had the watermelon margarita. Both were exceptional! Very fresh and perfect on a hot day! Loved the flavors and the ambiance inside Carmella's.

Love this dessert bar/gelato shop! I didn't get anything the first 2 nights we passed by because it was so packed with the line out of the door. I hate crowds and waiting in lines so my girlfriend and I hit this place up only in the early evening on our 3rd night in Charleston. We were both craving something cold, refreshing and gelato seemed like a good idea! She got the juicy peach sorbet and I got 1 scoop of blackberry with 1 scoop limoncello. My limoncello was very refreshing and just what I wanted! I should've just gone with 2 scoops of that! I tried the mascarpone and it didn't really taste like anything. The blackberry was also kind of meh. The person who took my order was very nice and helpful. He was the who suggested I get a different scoop flavor. I give them props for having proper bathrooms, seating area, DIY water and sparkling water station. Would have loved to try one of their mini cakes if my friend would split with me but she is vegan and I kind of did not feel right dropping $13 on a cake on our last night, lol. The gelato + tax was close to $7 (damn) but pretty good. The place is pretty small but the walls and decor was very Charleston and had pretty southern charm.

Both service and dessert were great. We sat at the bar enjoyed a glass of wine with this moist lemon and blueberry cake! We inhaled it!

We went here on our last night in Charleston and it was definitely a weekend favorite! The combination of house music and a sugar rush is just what we needed to end this trip lol. The vibe inside is so fun and electric. It's the perfect spot to go with friends or on a date and you can sit at the bar or they have table seating. The line was relatively long, but it moved very quickly, which is such a relief. We got the dark chocolate cherry tart and red velvet cake. Both were incredible and I'm sure anything on their menu is so delicious. Definitely check out this fun spot if you're in Charleston!!!

This cafe and bar is amazing. I couldn't have imagined our drinks would taste as good as they did. Busy place but service was quick and friendly. We found a table inside. Plenty of sweet treats that are large in size for sharing!

We heard about Carmella's Desert Shop and decided to stop there for sweet after dinner. When we walked in, there was a bit of a line, so we had to wait about 10 minutes to order our dessert. We ordered the Red Velvet Cake and Chocolate Ice Cream from the menu. Our cake and ice cream were ready in about 10 minutes! We started with the Red Velvet Cake. It was smooth and melted in your mouth with each bite. Everyone in our group loved it and it was definitely one of the best red velvet cakes we've had. The ice cream was also delicious! It tasted great and was well-made with great ingredients. Both the cake and ice cream were great dessert choices after dinner.

Absolutely love this little gem. On a beautiful sunny afternoon it was a perfect stop. Grab a table on the sidewalk and enjoy one of the best tarts I've ever eaten. Looking in the display case it was very difficult to make a choice from the Keylime pie to the hummingbird cake. They even had a fabulous looking cannoli cake. Carmella's does have a full bar and other lunch items on the menu, but I think they are best known for their dessert and coffees I ordered the red eye, which was coffee and espresso. I have to say it was the perfect compliment to my tart. Service was from our friendly bartender. Make sure if you are near the water downtown you stopped to visit. Yum!

Sitting in my hotel room around 10pm i stared at the menu for Carmella's for nearly two hours straight, until it was too late for me to take the 10 minute walk over there to indulge. But there was nothing to stop me after dinner the next night, since we'd dined just a block or so away. We went around 9:30pm, so no long lines but it was still lively inside. Music playing through the speakers was a tad loud for easy conversation, but pairs and triumvirates gathered in intimate clusters across the room. Since I'd studied the menu for so long the night before, I knew exactly what I wanted: the chocolate peanut butter cake and the budino. Had I not been so tired, I would have stayed for the fun. But we got our sweets to go and settled for a night cap at our hotel bar instead. The cake was delicious but I would have liked a heavier lean on the peanut butter. The budino was just right.

somewhat overpriced desert place that also sells booze. 13-16 dollars for cakes pastries. Friendly enough. great location.

It was very busy but they were very efficient so the wait was reasonable even if the line seemed long. I tried a salami and goat cheese sandwich, coffee + gelato drink, cannoli cake, and butterscotch budino. I loved most of what I purchased. The cannoli cake was a little dry, but everything else was delicious. I can't recommend the coffee + gelato drink enough; it was called whipped coffee on the online menu but it's called something else in store. Add caramel to it and it is perfect. The butterscotch budino is great on its own, a very smooth texture and not too sweet. It was also good with butter cookies dipped in it.

We loved this spot. I wish dessert bars were a thing everywhere! Really enjoyed this concept and enjoyed the carrot cake. The photo does not do it justice for how large it was. Easily served three people who are stuffed after dinner and we had leftovers.

I always enjoy coming here everytime I visit Charleston. You can't go wrong with any of the cakes. The cannoli cake is my favorite and the perfect mix of rich chocolate and white cake. I love that there isn't a lot of frosting. They have great flavor and stay moist. The frozen drinks are great and blended smoothly. We always enjoy the watermelon margarita. They have great variety in coffees and syrup flavors. The espresso martini is good but can be too much vanilla if you aren't a vanilla person like my sister. Service is usually pretty fast for the crowd they have. I've placed online cake orders to avoid waiting in line and also have sat at the bar to get bar service. The employees rotate from taking orders, to making food, to making drinks, to serving the bar so it all flows well. All the employees are always nice and bring good energy to the restaurant!

The best was red velvet with close 2nd the cannoli cake and that bourbon pecan cake rocked too. I am officially diabetic

It was nothing but gobs of fat in our bowls over mashed potatoes. Hardly any meat, tasted a little sweet. I was told the veggies would be squash, zucchini and broccoli when I asked what veggies come with it. Well, no broccoli or squash, they used eggplant. I HATE eggplant. So really I had about two bites of meat and a little mashed potatoes with two pieces of zuchini. We both intensely disliked it. Not to mention we didn't realize it would all be served together, meat on top of mashed potatoes in a bowl with the veggies mixed in. We don't like making a scene so we ate it in silence with me leaving half my bowl full of the fat and the eggplant. We had ordered a charcuterie board to share, so I ate a good portion of that as my main dinner. Also, the portion of food for the price was not a lot. The bowls were kind of small. The price is very expensive. $200 for four people. I gave it three stars because my meal may not have been to my satisfaction but my other son loved his lamb burger-otherwise it may have gotten two stars. I'm not sure if I will try it again. Probably not. First impressions can really make a difference. One glass of wine was $16 dollars here when they are around $8 dollars everywhere else so we paid $32 dollars for 10 ounces of wine. Maybe because it is downtown on Market Street? It was a little too expensive for sub-par food in our opinion. The one day I decided to eat Gluten and it was a meal not worthy of my pain that I always experience after. The Vibe of the place was nice. Rustic yet elegant. Nice tables with tablecloths. I loved the atmosphere. Just wish the food was better. Can't say I'd recommend it if you are visiting Charleston. There are too many other great places downtown to try. But who knows, you may like it if you try the burger. Or if you like fat.. by all means get the beef ribs. My son ate his fat.. he said if he didn't eat the fat he wouldn't have had much of a supper. But he can tolerate fat. I cannot.

The dining room is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality level or price point of the restaurant. When entrées range from $65-$70 for fish, $80+ for steaks, and side dishes approach $14 or more, guests reasonably expect an elevated and attentive dining experience. Throughout the evening, our server seemed rushed and disengaged. Despite our efforts to be friendly and conversational, interactions felt brief and transactional. A drink order was delivered incorrectly, and rather than improving as the meal progressed, the service became increasingly impersonal. We never felt particularly welcomed or valued as guests. A special night out with a $300-$400 check should feel memorable for the right reasons. While the food and atmosphere were good, the overall experience fell short of what we have come to expect from restaurants operating in this category and at this price level. We are glad we gave it a try, but in the future we'll likely choose other Charleston-area restaurants that deliver a more polished and hospitality-focused experience when entertaining family and friends from out of town.
