Brunch at Ruby Sunshine WOW. Worth the wait. About a 30-minute wait, but the vibe was comfortable, so it didn't feel like a chore. Catfish and grits were cooked perfectly. We tried two eggs benedict options both solid. The candy bacon? Absolute winner. French toast bites... just okay, nothing to brag about. Pancakes were good, and those biscuits with cinnamon butter don't skip that. Biscuits and gravy were good, just not my thing but my sister enjoyed them. Happy to report that my experience at the Ruby Sunshine location on East Bay was amazing! It was night and day from my experience at the other location in West Ashley. We were immediately greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in the door. All the staff was friendly and welcoming! We were quickly seated without reservations. We ordered the classic beignets to start and it came out hot and fresh topped with powdered sugar. For brunch, I got the skinny florentine omelet with side salad. My husband got the one tomato two tomato benny. Both our orders came out hot and fresh! My omelet was fluffy and yummy! The biscuit was so flaky and tender. Not hard as a rock, like we got at the other location. My husband's benny was equally as good. They poached the eggs perfectly, and his biscuit was nice and soft and full of flavor. The restaurant was clean and well organized. They even have an area towards the back for private dining for a large party and they have a cute outdoor courtyard with seating as well. Wow ... great brunch!! Easily walkable from our cruise ship docked only a couple blocks away. Very busy there ... so good thing we made a reservation (thanks Yelp!) for our large party of 8, but still had to wait a few minutes for them to setup. Although, other walk-ins had to wait longer. We were seated in the indoor area, as the outdoor space was quite nice but didn't seem to have seating for all of us. Extensive brunch menu and everything was just soooo good including the drinks! Although some in our party thought the lavender was a bit strong in the mimosa sampler. There's also a seasonal menu worth trying too. This place was cute and convenient to our hotel. The menu looked great and I really loved what I ended up choosing. I also enjoyed tastes of my husband's pancake and biscuit with the brown sugar butter. They seemed severely understaffed. We had a 25 minute wait for a table, a when we were seated the place seemed empty. The poor server seemed harried and confused. My daughter and I met up with our sister friends for brunch today as a send off to one of them leaving to serve our country overseas soon. We'd all read the reviews and the menus before arriving. We found great street parking and walked less the 5 minutes to get to the restaurant. There's ì outside seating in front and out back. The entrance is wheelchair accessible (added plus)! We waited a couple minutes before being seated which was totally fine. They do have a bar with seating and the restaurant itself is amazingly spacious! We were seated and still had a sense of intimacy to be able to laugh and girl talk just as much as we wanted (needed)! I asked our awesome server about their glute free menu and my flabbers were gasted to see an actual menu JUST for us that gluten hates! And to the disapproval of my grown daughter, I almost squeaked. The description of the restaurant said Nola inspired so of course my daughter ordered beignets; she enjoyed them and tried not to compare them to that other place in Nola, lol. I loved the decor and colors used throughout. I ordered French toast (gluten-free of course) with a side of scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. Our server was super helpful as well as knowledgeable about the menu, and sweet as she could be. We were so surprised that the restaurant wasn't filled! I try to review from the top down. I try to give fives. I ate at Ruby's yesterday and again, today. I don't think it was their weekend. Hmmm. Yesterday, the food was served promptly. It was hot. I ordered something that had battered fried chicken pieces and squares of french toast. The chicken was fried, but the french toast was fried, too. Maybe it wasn't. Either way the bread was pretty greasy. Low marks there. Our server was bad. She neglected to bring drinks after they were asked for. She began taking my plate while asking me if I was done. When it came time to check out she handed the machine to my friend WHILE HE WAS TALKING and then spoke over him with the instructions. We were both astonished. She wasn't that busy. Today I arrived early. Jarod, our server was AMAZING. I ordered an espresso and a Costa Rican breakfast dish. The espresso came to the table barely warm. I asked Jarod if he would have it warmed up and, to my surprise, he brought out a fresh, hot cup. Well done, Jared. The meal, while delicious, also wasn't hot. Went there for breakfast as I have driven by it for quite a while. We started with beignets, they were just ok, a little too heavy and not enough sugar. Wife had the migas which she loved. I had an omelette with biscuit and potatoes as well as a pancake. Omelette was nice and fluffy, very good. Potatoes were like most potatoes in the south, ok, though these were seasoned nicely, would love to find some jersey breakfast potatoes down here. Decent spot. Had to wait an hour late Sunday morning on Presidents Day weekend. Tried to order the Trifecta but they were out of shrimp. Settled for the Peacemaker Benedict with pork and fried chicken. It was pretty tasty and eggs were perfect. My wife had the Migas which she said were decent. Fried green tomatoes appetizer was fun, with generous amounts of bacon (and also generous amounts of a mayo-based sauce). Morning margarita was passable but not special. Service was friendly. I love the Ruby Slipper in NOLA so it was a no brainer to go to Ruby Sunshine while I was biding time to catch a flight home. I wish this was the same experience but it was not. The candied French toast was smothered in brown sugar versus baked, I had to scrape it off to eat it. The restaurant is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The servers were also amazing. I was able to try a lot of different dishes but my favorite was the chicken st Charles and the appetizers of beignets, loaded tots and French toast bites. The loaded tots were a pleasant surprise, it's drenched in sauce and although it looked weird, it tasted wonderful. I did not really enjoy the shrimp and grits the sauce had a weird taste for me but it's worth a try if you want to have a shrimp and grits with a sweeter take to it. The chicken and toast bites were also weird. Although the toast bites as an appetizer were great the sauce they use for the chicken and toast bites was too tangy for me and the spiciness did not translate well into the toast bites for me. read more

First, I'm not accustomed to southern food so this critique may just reflect that. I ordered the two tomatoes Benedict. It's on a biscuit half instead of an english muffin. I found the biscuit to taste heavy and almost stale. The hollandaise sauce was more orangey in color and tasted off. On the positive side, the eggs were perfectly poached. This meal comes with a side salad, heavy with vinegrette dressing. The server advised they could not substitute potatoes. So we ordered a side of potatoes which tasted like they were deep fried from frozen. Overall, this felt like a very heavy meal and I couldn't finish it. read more

I will never ever ever return and I will be sure all my customers at THE WILLCOX in SC knows how awful our experience was at RUBY SUNSHINE and recommend them to never waste their time or money on a place that took total advantage of their customers when they clearly knew they were having either a bad day or extremely understaffed and refused to be honest to their customers causing them to wait 30-40 mins before being seated and then another 20 mins before being greeted at your table, another 10 mins before getting half hour tables drinks and having to ask 10-15mins for the rest, never being checked on after we got our foods to see if we needed refills, hot coffee, if our food was okay. NOTHING. Not even our check which I had to ask for and then when asked how everything went they could care less that our experience was awful! Didn't offer to comp anything, didn't offer drinks to go, didn't offer to remake anything.. didn't give two shit other than making sure I paid my $80.00 bill for shitty ass FOOD! Never again also after reading reviews and seeing the response from what I believe is the owner on Google reviews I should of known they only care about money and not their actual customers because whenever someone wrote a negative review they will response back that the customer is making up a story to make them look bad when I literally had the same experience as them.. long wait, cold food, barely acknowledged, never checked on or asked if we needed anything. Didn't receive all our order, waited 40 mins to be seated in an empty dining hall full of dirty tables, no staff or management to help the one staff doing it all with the cook and bartender, didn't get half our drinks until one of my family members went and asked for it and then still had to wait 10 mins before receiving it. Waited 20 mins before anyone even came to the table to ask what we wanted to eat or drink. Then only returned with our COLD FOOD, left and never came back till we requested our check! I wish I never even paid my bill because it was the worst experience I have ever had at a brunch style restaurant! Not to mention I grew up in the service industry and have done it most of mh life including most my siblings and other family members at 4-5star establishments we understand having a bad day but whenever that happens you usually will offer to comp the bill, take something off the bill, give a discount for the inconvenience or awful experience, ask if we wanted something remade or drinks to go! This place did none of that but we're happy to quickly run the bill with the machine to pay for my shitty ass meal that cost me $80.00. I'm just glad I'll be able to warn all my customers, staff and guest that stay at the WILLCOX in SC to never ever give the RUBY Sunshine their time or money. read more

They are generous with their drinks and the omelettes come with biscuits, grits and butter. I enjoyed my breakfast and the price is reasonable.
