So some places serve great coffee & some places make you smile before you've even taken your first sip. But Bitty & Beau's? They do both! This was our first stop after arriving in Charleston and I knew I wanted to return. I first visited Bitty & Beau's back in 2021 during a trip to South Carolina and was immediately positively overwhelmed by the mission, people, and atmosphere. Since then, I've also visited the Savannah location, so bringing my friends here felt like a non-negotiable part of our Charleston itinerary. Thankfully, they were more than happy to indulge me. While we all came for coffee, none of us actually ordered plain coffee. Instead, we opted for lattes and other specialty beverages, all of which were delicious. What surprised me most was that throughout the rest of our trip, despite visiting several other coffee shops, my friends repeatedly said Bitty & Beau's was their favorite. High praise considering Charleston has no shortage of excellent cafes! For those unfamiliar with Bitty & Beau's, the company is dedicated to employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, creating meaningful employment opportunities while fostering inclusion and acceptance. As a School Psychologist who works with students of varying abilities, this place holds a special place in my heart. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The coffee is great, the merchandise is fun, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the smiles are contagious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Four years after my first visit, I'm happy to report that Bitty & Beau's remains just as magical as I remembered. Love this spot! I just google searched for a coffee shop near the hotel I was staying at and this one came up & I'm super pleased I was able to stop by. Delicious hot vanilla latte on a freezing cold weekend in January. Also thought it was cute that they gave me a playing card as my order number. BITTY & BEAU'S melted my heart with a warm peppermint bark latte over the holidays. Is it even possible to give this place less than 5 stars? The coffee was just average to me. Nothing special. But what was special was the mission behind each cup of coffee made. From their website, "Bitty & Beau's Coffee is a human rights movement disguised as a coffee shop, where people with intellectual & developmental disabilities are valued in the workplace. Very cute merch! I was also super intrigued by the shandys in cans that they had- like lemonade and coffee or hibiscus tea and coffee- I bet they're delicious. I really wanted a travel mug but talked myself out of it because I don't need another one. The service was fine, and my husband liked his drink. read more

Definitely support their goal and the employees were so nice so I know it is not their fault and are doing what they're told. This is for the owners, I don't support the inability to fill the cup when asking for light ice. I think the employees should be trained to fill the cup even with light ice with at least milk or something. It was just not filled enough at all. read more

I believe people should reframe their expectations when they come to this coffee shop. It is not your regular coffee shop that you should expect that the Barista to be expert in coffee making. With that said, nothing takes away making this coffee shop extra special. If one pays attention to the mission of the enterprise (not its slogan) and see who the front staff are, you would appreciate what they have accomplished. The staff are very polite and friendly especially Dee Dee. Dee Dee would simply amaze you with her superb customer service attitude and the warmest personality. She is readily available to assist any customers even if it is beyond her duties and tasks. She knows how to engage customers and give them sincere compliments. She has taken her training to her heart. She remembers her line very well when greeting customers as they enter and even encourages customers to leave a review when they go. The food is what you would expect in a coffee shop. We had the muffin and sausage-egg-cheese croissant sandwich with coffee and peppermint tea. If you are staying in the French Quarter, prices of food are expensive. Prices in this coffee shop is reasonable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We dined in and there was enough comfortable seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Plus, it is entertaining to see how Dee Dee was interacting with the guests and how she makes guests smile with her compliments. The staff are not regular employees. They would be the least to be hired by Starbucks or any other companies. With proper training and loving patience for them to be up to speed in service, the staff are one of the best in delivering amazing service while giving their all. They don't give you dirty looks or nasty complaints for not getting a big tip BUT they sure deserve a hefty tip with their silent hard work that people take for granted given their abilities. So if you are in the French Quarter of Charleston SC, drop by Bitty & Beau's coffee. You're not just taking a cup of coffee; you would be surprised that you may be leaving with a smile if you get to chance Dee Dee. read more

Great recommendation from the lady working the front desk at our hotel. When I walked in I immediately remembered a reel I had seen on Instagram a while back about Bitty and Beau's and how this coffee shop came to be. As an educator myself, I have a soft spot for special needs. I was elated to be able to visit this amazing shop and receive the best service and coffee! Thank you to the helpful lady taking my order. I told her I usually order cold brew, but nothing too sweet. She suggested a s'mores type cold brew. It was delicious. I would definitely return again! I see there's a Bitty & Beau's in Waco. I'll be in Waco in a couple of weeks and plan to make a pit stop at that location! read more

This is the cutest coffee shop with the best mission and sweetest baristas. Our coffee was delicious and was quickly made. It's also conveniently located and within walking distance of so many places, like the City Market. The shop itself doesn't have a ton of seating options, but a few tables by the counter. The ordering concept is unique. You're given a playing card and they call you to retrieve your order based on that. It was so fun interacting with the staff. Highly recommend! read more

The sweetest little cafe in Charleston!! We were parched on a hot may afternoon after exploring the river side parks. We needed refreshments and yelp suggested this cafe. They employ physically challenged people which makes it 1000 times worth the visit. I got an iced vanilla latte which was fabulous. They give you playing cards and call it out while your order is ready, kinda makes it more fun. I will recommend and revisit this cafe when in town. read more

From all the gushing reviews we expected this to be a privately-owned small business, but it is actually a chain. The coffee was kind of weak, watery, and just OK. The sugar syrup on the coffee bar tasted weird. There were a handful of factory-made pastries in the case. Nothing substantial to eat for breakfast. We were offered egg sandwiches by the cashier, but then were told by (someone in charge) that they actually don't have that yet. He said they would be frozen sandwiches and they were having issues with storage. [[HIGHLIGHT]]3/4 + of the store footprint is taken up by merch advertising the company.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As parents of 2 special needs kids, we really wanted to appreciate the effort, but it just feels like they are using the "we hire special needs people" thing as PURPLEWASHING to pull on people's heartstrings to get their money. read more

This is such a cool coffee shop that gives a unique small town vibe that I really appreciate. The service was made great with both kindness and efficiency. We visited on two occasions during our time in Charleston and were very happy with the different drinks we tried both times. Their Mocha's seem to skew towards the sweater end of the spectrum compared to others, but their cold brew was spot on with many others that I've tried, and their Caramel Frappé was incredible. I would definitely recommend that you check this place out if you're looking for a nice cup of coffee while in Charleston. read more

Stopped in here to get an iced coffee while walking around Charleston. The coffee tasted great, the staff was very nice, the service was quick. They've got a great selection of merch and this place is making a good impact in the community. Drinks took 20+ minutes to make, were made wrong, and we were charged extra for something we didn't order. Business model is to employ the disabled but they need proper management. Our barista was limping and wincing in pain while making our drink and the other staff was tearing up/crying which is not ok. read more

Perfection! Hands down, the best cup of coffee on our recent vacation to Charleston/Hilton Head/Savannah was had at Bitty & Beau's Coffee shop. Their espresso is spot on perfect--it's beautifully rich and smooth. I thoroughly enjoyed the mocha I got here. I don't know if this is always the case, but they're set up as an exclusively takeout situation. They also have some fun branded items for purchase as well. Top notch! Get to it! read more

I do not remember the price, but this was a real meal. The bread held up well, the sides were well seasoned, and I enjoyed every bite. Coffee (self serve) was good quality and they made sure the pot was never empty. Service was from the counter and was genuinely friendly. They were all part of the casual atmosphere. The place is relaxed and has a real neighborhood vibe. We ate many great meals during our stay in Charleston, many fancy and some low key. Queen Street stands out as the most pleasant of surprises.

Vibe killer, for sure. I would rather have a nicely-designed card stock menu with an eggy fingerprint or a coffee stain than sitting at the table with my phone out waiting for the menu to download and then trying to navigate it while discussing it with the server, who in our case, was a bit impatient. And also loud and impersonal while I'm at it. So, we ended up ordering: BISCUITS AND GRAVY-- this was the best thing we ordered. Rosemary presence was just right (love Rosemary but not too much). The pickled ocra on the side was perfectly pickled and crisp, which was a wonderful contrast to the scrambled eggs and gravy-soaked biscuits. I wish I could've walked out with a jar of them. MILLERS PLATE (I think that was the name of it)-- it was a basic breakfast platter with eggs, choice of breakfast meat (my son chose bacon), home fries, and a biscuit. My son said it was basic, but that his potatoes were over-fried and greasy. PATATAS BARAVAS-- my husband got this and said that the sausage was sparse and it was overloaded by large chunks of potato. If you're going to pay nearly $20 for a plate, it shouldn't be primarily filled with filler like potato. He said flavor was nice, though. Also, he missed on the menu that the meat was a "brisket sausage" and not "brisket AND sausage," so worth noting if, like him, you would be looking forward to the latter. This is pay at the table. They also pre-set tip options to 20, 22, and 25%. And our server stood there waiting for us to complete our transaction. Hate that. If you must use a pay at the table device, be classy and review the ticket with the patron, give a kind farewell, and then give them step away to give them space to decide on the total and tip without pressure. Also, we nearly never tip less than 20% and more often tip more, but it puts a bad taste in my mouth whenever suggested tips start at 20 or more percent and go higher. Bit presumptuous. On the way out we had to stop and grab some pics from the Photo Booth. This was a fun touch. Glad to have tried this spot while making a pit stop in Charleston. Has special breakfast/brunch vibes, for sure. Just a few things that could be improved.
