The bartender has a heavy pour on their mimosas, very very good. Our server was very nice and considerate. Biscuits and gravy were very good, over easy eggs were nice but the scrambled eggs were runny and underdone. I visited this establishment on Saturday, February 21st to celebrate my mother's 77th birthday. I made reservations in advance through the restaurant's website. Because the reservation system limited the number of guests per booking, I made three separate reservations to accommodate our party of 25, with three different people listed on the reservations. The week prior to our visit, I called the restaurant multiple times attempting to speak with someone to confirm that our party could be accommodated. I was unable to reach anyone. When we arrived on Saturday, the restaurant was nearly empty, with staff standing idle. After waiting, we were finally greeted by the host. I explained that we had reservations--one under my name for 12 guests--and that the remaining members of our party were arriving behind us. We arrived together on a party bus, so our entire group was present. The host located two of the three reservations but could not find the third. At that point, a manager came out. Unfortunately, I did not get his name. His demeanor immediately became aggressive and confrontational once he realized the size of our party. We are an African American family, and based on his behavior, I strongly believe this played a role in how we were treated. The manager stated that he could seat us but complained that we would "jam up" his kitchen and servers--speaking to us as though we were not paying customers. His tone was condescending, dismissive, and disrespectful. When my mother, a 77-year-old woman celebrating her birthday, attempted to speak with him, he remained unapologetic and clearly did not want to serve us. As a result, we left. The restaurant lost our business, and we were thankfully welcomed and accommodated by another establishment that treated us with respect. It is deeply disappointing that my family--and especially my children--had to experience what felt like blatant discrimination. This is not an experience anyone should have while visiting Charleston. That is why this review is being posted. We also have video footage of this interaction, and we will be sharing it. Stopped here for a morning breakfast while in town for a short visit. Omelette was fresh, not g greasy, with hot, grits and biscuit were also delicious and fluffy! I would definitely go back and done in again. I really enjoyed the latte! A nice change from my normal black coffee! read more

Coming here was some of the worst experiences me and my family has ever had with a restaurant. I have a pretty big family and we like to do things together. It was my grandmothers 77th birthday party and my mom, uncle and cousin all made reservations here for about close to 30 of us. When we all came we immediately felt unwelcomed. My mom went to the hostess and expressed that we were there for out reservations at 1:30 we got there on time and we all came on a party bus together. He asked several times if everyone was there and we responded several times that were all were here. He also said "well you might not be sat together", my mom said that it was fine. Then they said they "couldnt find" the third reservation from my cousin, she showed it to him on her phone and then they proceeded to find it. After the last reservation was found he says to us, " I mean we can do it you guys are just gonna jam up our kitchen". As a big black family, mostly born and raised in Charleston anyone could see how we would take this as a little discriminatory especially because 1. we had reservations in place for everyone 2. our whole party was there, and 3. We were on time and the restaurant was close to empty, there was one table occupied from what we can see . We ended up just leaving because of how unwelcoming and generally rude they were to us. This was ridiculous especially considering they let about $1000 walk out of their door when they had absolutely no business coming in at the time . As someone who works in the food industry and also deals with people everyday this was just so rude and nasty and it did put a hole in our plans for the day but we called the next restaurant and they invited us in and felt so bad for everything we had to endure here at this location. I seen someone call him "tall, bald and unhelpful" on here so thats the description im going with as well along with a much shorter woman with dirty blonde hair. everyone involved should seriously be ashamed. read more

I had the Smash Burger, my wife had some chicken, and the kids had Sandwiches and also Chicken. They had sodas, and my wife and i had Mocktails. I had the peacemaker, mix and match two of their Benedict and I went with smoked salmon and chicken st. Charles. It was so good! The poached egg was cooked perfectly and the smoked salmon was delicious. The fried chicken was crunchy and cooked perfectly. My friend had biscuit and gravy with add on fried chicken. And other friend had 2 eggs, grits, biscuit, and cinnamon swirl pancake. Everyone happy with their food and endless coffee. My wife and I stopped in for a quick breakfast before leaving town. We were greeted and seated quickly by the friendly and courteous staff. Our orders were taken and prepared quickly. I had the three pigs omelette and my wife had the southern breakfast. The grits were amazing, I only wish I had a larger serving. The omelette was chocked full of meat and very well prepared. The restaurant was clean and had a modern, upbeat vibe dominated by a large bar as you first enter the building. Go early because Ruby Sunshine (seemingly, like every other restaurant in Charleston) gets utterly rammed during prime brunching hours. We had a scheduled walking tour on a late January Sunday morning that kicked off a few blocks south of here, so we rolled in around 8:00am and observed that several other tables were already seated. By the time we finished our meal and headed out around 9:00am, it was already buzzing. You snooze, you lose! I think the best part was the friendly conversation with our server, who -- like pretty much every other service industry person we met during our long weekend here -- was originally from the northeast. It wasn't packed during our visit, but she maintained the perfect amount of attention and banter without being helicopter-y or completely MIA. Ruby Sunshine's food was also fabulous. Be warned -- the portions are quite extreme, in a pleasant way. We ordered a plate of biscuits and gravy with the fried chicken add-on to share and it was easily a full and satisfying meal for two. I can't imagine anyone polishing off the dish by themselves. The unexpected bonus was being offered a refill of coffee to go. Yes, please! Who even does that?! It was a delightful surprise and kept us fueled for our traipse around Charleston's alleys and hidden passages later that morning. read more

Who doesn't love a southern brunch? Ruby Sunshine delivers! The seemingly tiny restaurant from the outside opens up into a cozy indoor space that leads out to a lovely back patio. Definitely put your name on the virtual wait list if you plan on going over the weekend, though, as this place draws a crowd. The coffee & food were both delicious (I tried the creamy vanilla spiced latte & the biscuits & gravy with fried green tomatoes). This place is famous for their biscuits, and I can see why! The only downside is while the service is very friendly, it is also very slow. It's a great place for a leisurely brunch, but don't expect anything to come quickly. This is a solid breakfast spot. It was right down the street from our hotel. It seems like the wait times can really vary. We went early Sunday morning and was told it would be a 30 minute wait. We took a walk to the water front while we waited. They keep you updated very well with texts letting you know your place in line. Once we were close to being #1 in line we went back to the restaurant. They have a lot of space here and seems like breakfast can get pretty busy on the weekends. This weekend they did seem to be understaffed and the server was a bit hurried. Their menu has a ton of delicious looking items. I settled on the farmers breakfast with an iced coffee. The food came out pretty quick but my order seemed to be confused with the table next to us. My wife really enjoyed her avocado toast. It didn't take long at all to get my order corrected and all the food tasted great. This place isn't amazing but it gets the job done and its location is close to a lot of the popular hotels and scenic things to see while you wait. read more

French toast bites - okay. Wish they weren't as deep fried, because I love the typical soft texture of French toast and some of the French toast flavor was lost in the deep fried. It relies heavily on the cream and praline sauce to make it good. Mimosa flight - do not recommend. The juices they mixed them with are not very complimentary to the sparkling wine. My favorite (and the only one I actually liked) was the Pineapple Peach Bellini. Service was somewhat slow given they were past the lunch rush. But the place is big and I suspect our waitress had multiple sections. She was even bussing her own tables and making her own drinks behind the bar‍. Shame on management for not giving her more support. Then again, it seems people are having a hard time finding good staff these days. :( The food entrees were their saving grace, though! I mean the flavors were good and the portions were great! I recommend the Chicken St. Charles and the Pancakes! Also the Ruby Mimosa is okay as well. If you're walking downtown, drinking, and need some quick, diner style breakfast/brunch options....Ruby's got you. After enjoying RS's Yelp! Elite event, we decided to swing back by Ruby during our own, much-needed, private Sunday Funday. Service is friendly, warm, and works as a team. While this staff/teamwork sentiment often sounds like "that's the way it should be," experienced floor managers must set this tone; the staff genuinely cooperates and likes each other. Drinks were cold, sweet, and delivered quickly. We enjoyed the spinach omelet, French toast, and biscuit sandwich. All were served quickly and "got the job done." When looking around, there were a few groups of ladies "brunchin' hard," laughing, and enjoying themselves. Our main (menu) feedback would be to offer a few, high-end traditional brunch options like a "2 of everything", skillets/scrambles, and overall "bigger" menu options at the $18-$25 price point. Yes, we'll pay more for more food and/or quality. We look forward to our next Sunday stroll, mimosa round, and (of course) biscuits. read more

My kids wanted strawberries instead of bacon with their pancakes. We were charged $2 per plate for 3/4 of a strawberry. So, $4 for not even 2 strawberries. We weren't told this until the check. Staff are genuinely friendly. Food is delicious, and the restaurant has a bright, funky, and cheerful atmosphere.

The food was delicious, and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. In fact the general manager, (Alex), even stopped at the table to see if we were happy with everything. It was a busy day with lots of patrons, but his stopping at many of the tables to meet and greet his customers, shows how much he and his staff care about their customers.
